22:01 - Jamie Lee actually slipped and fell in this scene but the director thought it was so funny that he decided to keep it in the film. Arnold's reaction was actually real which is what made the scene so great.
When James Cameron was casting their boss, he said they needed someone audiences could believe was capable of intimidating even Arnold Schwarzenegger. So they got classical hollywood actor, Charlton Heston. In an eyepatch. The funny thing about the name The Omega Sector, is that Heston played in the 1971 The Omega Man, which was an earlier adaptation of a book, I Am Legend, adapted again as a Will Smith version.
8:28 - This hotel is actually called the "Westin Bonaventure Hotel". It's in downtown Los Angeles. I actually stayed there when I picked a hotel at random. I realized where I was the moment I walked into the lobby. They filmed about half a dozen movies here including "Interstellar".
The rocket launcher in the truck was facing the right way, it's just that a lot of people don't realize that when you fire such a weapon, there's a lot of exhaust that comes out the back. There are real videos of this happening to people. I don't know if you recognized him, but Simon was played by Bill Paxton, AKA Prvt. Hudson from Aliens. "Game over man! Game over!"
Fun Fact: Jamie Lee Curtis did the stunt, where she was rescued by the helicopter from the sunroof of the car herself. It was her birthday. and she celebrated it by doing the dangerous stunt herself. This movie was done before CGI was advanced enough to be realistic, so they still used practical effects & real stunts, if there was no other cost effective way for realism.
It's unfortunate though that they went and color re-graded this movie, essentially draining it, I just watched the old DVD the other night and Curtis' strip scene is now bathed in blue light which it's not originally. Such sad times of fakery we live in.
"There's no green screen." There is some. It was before the wishy-washy backlash against it, yet much of the scene was still filmed with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the cockpit of a mock-up of a Harrier jump jet mounted on top of a building in Miami to get the lighting and the backgrounds, but some shots were definitely with green or blue screen. It was pioneering work.
You may have missed this end credits scene (didn't see it or hear it mentioned in RUclips edit). It wasn't a major plot point, just a funny conclusion to the credits tango bit. I highly recommend *_The Abyss_* (1989) Dir by _James Cameron._ With _Ed Harris, Michael Biehn_ (Reese from Terminator & Hicks from Aliens), _Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio._ Be well. 🙋🏼♂️
The bad guy, Art Malik, starred in PBS TV masterpiece theater “The Jewel in the Crown.” Big hit in the USA in the 90s. He had a supporting role in “The Far Pavilions” - both movies were set in India during the British Raj. Omar Sharif was in “the Far Pavilions” plus he starred in “Dr. Zhivago” (👈🏾must react to Zhivago).
MJoy4Fun you both recognize that Simon was the late Bill Paxton and private Hudson from the movie Aliens also from James Cameron in is iconic line "Game over man, game over"same as Marion(=and Arnold did kill him in The terminator he was one of the gang members in the beginning of the movie.
True Lies might actually be the #3 best film that Schwarzenegger has been in only behind The Terminator and Predator. Also my #2 James Cameron film only behind The Terminator.
The Bossman at Omega with the eyepatch, Charlton Heston. Look it up Soylent Green, El Cid, the Ten Commandments, Ben-Hur, Planet of the Apes, and so many more.
Hey guys, I love this reaction and most of your reactions. Please, if you haven't seen Only The Brave or After Hours, you gotta check them out. They are GREAT movies and I really believe you will both love them. Keep up the great reactions.
5:09 Omega Sector : Easter Egg. Beneath the Planet of the Apes. End of the movie, George Taylor (Charlton Heston) sets off the Alpha-Omega bomb (Doomsday bomb)
The harrier, as Arnold was taking off, looked like CGI. but the rest looks real. Even the obvious bike Jump CGI looked good (obvious because of physics, not the effects)
they did use green screen quite a bit. in fact lucasfilm had brought out some newer green screen technology for this. they did a lot of practical too. including blowing up the bridge with real missles. the bridge was going to be destroyed anyway as they build a new onel.
James Cameron likes to use actors over and over! Arnold, Reese, Lance, Linda, Bill Paxton, the Hispanic chica in terminator 2 and Aliens...the car salesman guy was the first person Arnold killed in terminator! He was also in Aliens and Titanic!
Other really good "old school" action films: "Ronin" (1998) "The Peacemaker" (1997) "Payback" (1999) "Backdraft" (1991) "Striking Distance" (1993) "Jackie Brown" (1997) "Out of Sight" (1998) "Entrapment" (1999) "The Thomas Crown Affair" (1999 remake) "The Long Kiss Goodnight" (1996) "Rising Sun" (1993) "Strange Days" (1995) Newer movies in the older style (notice that a lot are remakes of older movies): "The Italian Job" (2003 remake) "The Ladykillers" (2004 remake) "Parker" (2013) "The Equalizer" (2014) "The Equalizer 2" (2018) "Man On Fire" (2004 remake) "The Expendables" series (2010, 2012, 2014) "The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3" (2009 remake) "The November Man" (2014) "The Mechanic" (2011 remake)
Great movie. Except for Terminator 1 and Batman and Robin, Arnold Swarchneger always plays the good guy. You should do the Running Man 1987) or Conan The Barbarian (An epic movie with an epic sountrack). he boss in the movie of Arnold Schwarzenegger is the legendary actor Charlton Heston Rip who had some epic classic movie like the Ten Commandments and Ben Hur Battery Aziz :)
James Cameron: writer, director and genius: Do this films: Terminator, T-2, Aliens, Titanic and Avatar films. For this movie, the late great Bill Paxton is playing a “con man” or “con artist “ or “grifter “
One of the funniest romantic action comedy movies ever made! There were talks of a Sequel to the movie, but it was cancelled due to the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks. A TV series based on the movie was released on CBS but it was cancelled after 13 episodes.
Bill Paxton was the champion at entertainingly playing an obnoxious jerk. For more, see him in "Aliens," "Near Dark," "Weird Science," and "Predator 2." He is also memorable in "Twister," "Traveler," "The Edge Of Tomorrow," "Frailty," and others. He also had a small part in "The Terminator."
A great movie choice and a great reaction! I'm a new subscriber, and I'm really enjoying your channel! Such an adorable couple, and you both make me laugh! Thank you for this reaction!✌💙✌
You watched Planet of the Apes a little while ago -- the man with the eye patch (Arnold's boss) is the same man who was the lead in that film. His name is Charlton Heston.
Bit late but for the record he did plan on a sequel as part of starting a set of films - like his own version of James Bond. He had started pre-production aspects around 2000 or so and hoping to release in the early aughts - However he abandoned it after 9/11 happened, believing terrorism wasn't something to be 'made light of' any more.
You MUST complete your Tarantino experiences, TRUE ROMANCE. Written by Tarrantino, but itis the only film not directed by or cameo in. One of the best. I rate it top 1, 2, or 3. Brad Pitt, the Eggplant scene, Awesome even for the 8th time. The starlette villain is Filipina, now pretty retired with family in Hawaii. Be well
Great reaction to a great movie, guys. The "bad girl" Juno Skinner (Tia Carrera) is my cousin, FYI she's half Filipino, Joy. This movie, I believe was her best role, she was also Wayne's girlfriend in the Wayne's World movies and also had a TV show called Relic Hunter where she plays a female Indiana Jones. But if want more "Ah-nold" try Kindergarten Cop or the Terminator movies (I & II he teams with James Cameron again). Thanks again you two.
Not quite. All scenes with the fighter jet are all CGI. Especially the scene of it taking off & crushing the police cruisers, its 100% CGI. Blowing up the bridge was real, but the jet wasn’t there at all.
@@Bishop228 That makes sense. I misspoke. All the jet scenes are so over the top.. They got to blow up the bridge because Florida was going to replace it anyway, right.
33:13 She already deactivated it by turning the key and stealing it. Cmon! Pay attention! Why do you think that terrorist is chasing after her? He wants the key so he can reactivate it!
Thank you for sharing your reaction to one of my favorite movies. If you enjoyed this you should also like "Mr. And Mrs. Smith," " Knight And Day," and "Killers." There is now a "True Lies" TV show, also.
If you're feeling like a practical effects action movie that's somewhat recent (2010ish), The Expendables. Stallone decided to make an 80s action movie, and then invite everyone
But it still looked like a modern movie, alas, I'd say they failed in making it like an '80s movie which they should've done considering all these stars from that decade.
This was probably Arnolds last truly great film, as he had some good ones after this, but this was his last AAA movie, at least IMO. I had zero interest in Tom Arnold being in this film, and I think most will agree, we all had to bite our tongues when it was all said and done. As he was a stand out in this film, and really was an amazing sidekick to Arnolds character. Jamie also did an amazing job, as she's always had good comedy chops, and she fit well with the rest of the cast.
Their Boss in the eye patch is Charlton Heston, Hollywood royalty and the original big action hero Hollywood star!
22:01 - Jamie Lee actually slipped and fell in this scene but the director thought it was so funny that he decided to keep it in the film. Arnold's reaction was actually real which is what made the scene so great.
Right, it also made the scene more realistic as she's not supposed to be a "professional dancer" but she's determined.
When James Cameron was casting their boss, he said they needed someone audiences could believe was capable of intimidating even Arnold Schwarzenegger. So they got classical hollywood actor, Charlton Heston. In an eyepatch.

Arnold is a legend 🤘🤘and Jamie is also🤘🤘
Such a fun movie! I agree with another poster. This may be AS's best movie. Always love your reactions!

Arnold has said many times that shooting the sexy dance scene by Jaime was, "extremely enjoyable." That was definitely my favorite scene!
I bet it was lol
Dude appreciates health and strong bodies. He literally calls men beautiful at the gym.
One of the features of the 3 "Expendables" movies (2010, 2012, & 2014) was that they relied on older FX techniques and only used minimal CGI.
I love how Joy laugh during all this. My mother did the same when this movie came out
her laughter is infectious
haha for real
Joys single claps really amuse me too!
Masterpiece ever.
Arnolds face when he playing thumb war with his wife and kid.......um no words

Cameron loves projection screens, so it was probably just background projection
Without a doubt my favorite James Cameron movie.
