Great job on that small part, Aaron! I know how challenging it is to weld on tiny parts.

Agreed, wish I had thought of that before I machined a piston ring groove out for a oil control rail. Would have been a lot nicer quality and control. 👍🧑‍🏭👨‍🔧

High speed tool steel. Can also use old drill bits for hard facing filler rod.

You did the best job with the video quality while welding/building up that cable “cam” for the throttle. I haven’t seen anything like it on RUclips. I don’t know how you did it, but its awesome 🙂👍 I could see how you actually puddled up the aluminum 👌😃 I’ve never TIG welded anything, so it’s really cool, to me, to see that.

About 8 years ago my throttle cable housing on my dirtbike broke where the line is held into the bracket and due to not being able to find one for how old my bike was i rode around on it having to pull the cable with my finger and thumb... Wish I had the skills and capability to do exactly what you did in this video when i was younger 8 years ago lol

To help with odd shapes when turning on your lathe, could you rig up an adjustable speed strobe light to freeze the rotational movement as you advance the tool post for added safety and or accuracy. Just a thought, you seem very creative and think outside the box. Great videos on your site as soon as I can afford it I would like to purchase a Tig welder, very elegant way of sticking metal together. Thanks

So legitimate question, while this is a great display of skill and ingenuity to fix a problem, and understanding you make youtube videos, specifically aluminum welding. would this not have been significantly easier and more efficient to just cut from a piece of aluminum plate ? Or was this a "for youtube " exercise? Im just curious if I'm missing somthing ? as a welder , novice home machinest and pleb dirtbiker rider, I'm always up for learning more ... Either way great video and great outcome 👍

what are the advantages of building the whole thing up by welding rather than taking aluminum stock, cutting it to the right shape and welding that to the part? using stock seems more straight forward to me.
