Right before his final song he brought Punch out and Punch said Ab-Soul was gonna drop an album that year. Cut to Dec 2022 it finally drops. Ab-soul gotta be feeling all types of ways

They could be like youngboy and drop something twice a year but that saturates their shit and don't really do them any favors. Give the projects time to live and garner a following. Make top tier quality projects though and that's what I love about then but not everybody has that mass appeal. BUT if you wait and have everyone drop close to one another you can throw all the C or B list artists together ona tour and they can all eat. He probably hasn’t fulfilled his contract obligations, which is what makes things suck for an artist that’s not happy with their label situation. A lot of times instead of a label dropping you, they will just shelve you so that you can’t go anywhere else. They know how being out of the spotlight can hurt an artist and lead to them becoming irrelevant. Part of it is the business, but a lot of it is out of spite and control. It’s their way of teaching the artist a lesson. Hopefully that doesn’t happen to Reason because he genuinely seems like a good dude, but industry politics can get real ugly real quick.

There is a spreadsheet someone made of the releases each artist had made and it is consistently four to five year gaps between albums. I don't think Reason is just making stuff up.

The same can be said about Kendrick. The first I ever heard of K. Dot was the song The Recipe. It was fire, IMO and showed off his versatility. TDE has a lot of talent, but they don't manage them well. And funny enough, Reason rapped about this possible problem in the song Window's Cry on his first album with TDE.

Everyone is different at the end of the day. You got ppl like JID who's talented and is getting their flowers and then you got artists with gimmicks like 95% of these kids that go viral whether it be from the music that lacks in depth or quality/the antics they participate outside of the music. To sum it up ppl gravitate to what's relatable and what's a vibe. Lyrical rap and catchy hooks aren't cutting it anymore. It's all about style, consistently, originality, and a team pushing you. The problem is the reason can have certain criteria checked off but if he doesn't have at least all the criteria checked off and ones missing then he falls short compared to the next artist. Talent can make it in the music game it just depends on what separates you from your contemporaries, who's backing you and pushing for your success as well as marketing yourself to a suitable demographic. It's not as easy as doing gimmicks or going the hit route but in the long run it always will solidify your longevity
