T.D.E Was Supposed to Be The Next Big Label But They Fell Off! Stunted Growth Music

  • Back in the early 2010s no one would believe T.D.E by now wouldn’t be the top rap label in ip Hop. They had a roster of hungry, young and capable talent, and what made it even more special was they weren’t some gimmicky rappers surviving of one popular song, or social media plant famous for a Tik Tok dance or one hit wonder that disappeared after a failed debut album. They didn’t have to conform to suspect dance moves or overhype to sell their albums either. Around that time there was a feeling, of whenever T.D.E dropped, expect quality rap in every way, from production to the bars, to their promo was always high quality and had an air of we’re doing it our way. That’s what I think many fans liked back then. It didn’t hurt they had a rising star in Kendrick Lamar, who eventually got to a place he’s considered the best rapper in the game. Before and after losing an all time great TDE has suffered tremendously, as it seems maybe Kendrick was the shinning lights of this collective that are all pretty much stagnant at this point, causing many fans to feel TDE fell off. If they have then this has to be one of the biggest fall offs in history see how much momentum they had just a few years ago. T.D.E Was Supposed to Be The Next Big Label But They Fell Off! What people fail to recognize is that SZA’s SOS album actually sold better than Kendrick’s final album on TDE. Not saying she is the overall bigger artist but I am talking currently her music is selling better or getting more attention. However, I’ve always questioned if Kendrick would have sold or been as big of a name as he was without becoming signed to Aftermath and Interscope. People got to remember Interscope is a machine that can push these artist to the top. Even though I feel TDE laid the groundwork for the music and content they put out. Having that major backing helped push Kendrick to the top of the charts. Without that major label support I feel he would have been like another Mos Def, Talib Kweli, or Rass Kass. However, when it comes to TDE falling off will see. I feel not having Kendrick has put that pressure on the label to have more successful artist to stand out, but only time will tell whether SZA stays with the label for another album or if she can maintain that success in the future as well as having another artist that can gravitate to a mainstream audience.

    • @misterkaywhy55

      Fucking FACTS about the Interscope/Kendrick part. I've been saying the same shit for years but niggas ain't wanna listen. Glad to see I ain't alone on this 💯💯

    • @Motle009
      @Motle009 9 месяцев назад +4

      @@misterkaywhy55 I don’t see how people don’t see it. TDE on its own strength I feel couldn’t have got Kendrick Lamar to the top spot especially back in 2012. However, if you have Interscope and Aftermath where you Dr Dre with his elite status signed and get behind an artist like Kendrick is easier to push him to the public and get him to number 1. I knew it back in 2010 or 2011 when I read that article of Dr Dre praising him and then they had that picture of him sitting court side with Dr Dre. I said they are going to sign this guy and he will be the next big artist to blow on the west coast and it was even more obvious when he got on Game’s album and they had that show when they crowned him. All they needed was that Interscope and Dr Dre signing and it was on. Then the media started creating the narrative that he was hip hop’s savior, he dropped that Control verse, and he appeared on Eminem’s album. Those key little things people ignore are what helped build Kendrick Lamar to be the top rapper in the last decade. I honestly think Kendrick is one of the most overrated rappers in the 2010’s and that’s not to say he’s a terrible artist. However, people always tend to over look the power of some of these labels and how they build up these artist.

    • @bdr113080
      @bdr113080 9 месяцев назад +2

      I don’t think it’s the fact people don’t realize that, but you can’t compare that to Kendrick in his prime though. One bad album does it mean SZA was equal to Kendrick.

    • @Motle009
      @Motle009 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@bdr113080 still overall Kendrick is the bigger artist and I know that. Believe me they still will talk about him or one of his albums. I am just saying SZA with SZA’s SOS when it comes to the album and singles is charting and selling better than Kendrick’s MMATBS. Still if we are going to look at both of their entire careers Kendrick is still the bigger artist. I just think when it comes to TDE is more the narrative being created the label is suffering because Kendrick left. However, SZA’s album did well and actually sold better than CTRL. I would say more when it comes to TDE how many more albums does SZA have obligated to them, can she maintain a top spot for future albums and will one of these other artist on the label or future artist they sign can carry the mantle as well. Plus one other thing to consider is SZA and Kendrick they are melodic artist that you can put on a hook and seems work well especially in this era. Not to mention they have the major backing. SZA has RCA and Kendrick was in Aftermath, Interscope. I think when it comes to TDE’s future they’ll have to have an artist aside from SZA who is marketable as well as a label that can help push that artist to the top. Only time will tell.

    • @misterkaywhy55
      @misterkaywhy55 9 месяцев назад +2

      @@Motle009 Right on 💯💯 Kendrick ain't bad or anything, just overrated. And given the era that he blew up in, the first thing that came to my mind when he started being touted as "Hip-Hop's Savior" (or even back when Dr. Dre, Game, Snoop was praising homie at that show) was that it's easy to become the "king" when the only ones in the spotlight are mumble rappers, trap rappers, or mediocre pop rap niggas.

They dont wanna put out BS, they're really like a modern day Death Row the way all of them would be all over each others projects, the Black Hippy concept was genius I felt, didnt really pan out like I'd hoped, but they put out quality. In regards to Kendrick I believe that leaving the label was the gradual step he had to make. With his peers ( Drake & J Cole) having their own situations it was time for him to get one of his own. In regards to Jay Rock, School Boy Q and AbSoul I don't believe that your critique was entirely fair. Sure they've taken a couple of years between projects I don't believe that it's solely because of laziness. I believe that they're just trying to make sure that they're crafting good bodies of work. Jay Rock hasn't released in a while and we're waiting on him, but AbSoul dropped a classic in my opinion at the end of last year , & School boy is gearing up to drop something soon. I believe issues behind the scenes is reason for the lack of frequency between releases. When got a guy like Musa calling in to an interview to shit on an artist that can't help the morale on the Label.

Listening to those tracks Kdot by no means "carried" that group. Also association with a massive artist on your label usually works AGAINST the other artist, unless you're featuring them, or doing different kind of music (SZA) Because casual fans will always compare them to the star player. Its the same with other labels. Take Dreamville, out of all those dope artist NONE reach mainstream success because they're in Cole's shadow. Its no one's "fault" thats just how it usually goes.

    Tbh you could've left 3 out Zay didn't really make a difference and I'm a TDE fan from DAY 1, Kendrick leaving and I knew that day was coming for a long time and Q Rock and soul leaving are the factors of their growth being stunted if you really want to put a 3rd one because that's how your videos are it should be Reason, Siir and some of their signing watering down the label over Zay Rashad. Because Zay has that core fan base that's keeps them afloat, I can tell you're a casual TDE fan lol

    If Isaiah Rashad came out before being outed, he could have had a huge rise in fame due to the LGBT movement that exploded a couple years before that incident. Cilvia Demo is a certified classic imo.

    I just feel they were too disjointed as a label at Lamar's and SZA peaks. I thought it was a mistake not to have any Black Hippy, Reason, or Rashad features on "TPAB", "Damn", "Mr. Morale", or "SOS". You go back to other labels that dominated, Death Row, Def Jam, Cash Money, No Limit, G-Unit/Shady/Aftermath...etc they always had the rest of the crew/artists on everyone else's albums. If you weren't casual Kendrick fan you might even know what Black Hippy is.

    The only artist from that label that I listened to are K-Dot, Schoolboy Q Jay 🪨 and some of Sza. Ab Soul wasnt that pushed that hard when it came to the promotion side of things. The last artist I dont know about. Im usually liking the artists first albums like K-dot and S.B.Q and I have both. The more that an artist has been spoken about or promoted, the sooner I'll give them a chance sad to say. For example if Big L wasn't heavily spoken about I wouldn't been able to give him a chance but good thing I did! I heard K-Dot's album "M.M.A
    T.B.S(2022)" on RUclips, wasn't completely feeling it. I understand that he's in a different space in his life but I was hoping that alby was balanced as his first. S.B.Q'S first album I loved it, it was also balanced but he took a long break and I've heard that it wasn't that great so I didn't bother checking it out. I will eventually. Id be surprised if T.D.E would come out with a future reunion album. I 💭 that T.D.E would be around for a long time because of this requested video update I guess not 🤷! When they first came out the label was on 🔥!

I still think tde is the best label out now and really like the introduction of artists like sir zacari and especially lance skiiiwalker (who nobody mentions at all for anything). I know of top holding back releases for some reason but i still see beautiful diversity and experimenation coming from tde. By 2030.. the unnamed artists of tde will be noticed at the least

    Tbf, all good things come to an end and I think they’re just past their prime. I do agree that most of the artists on the label never hit their potential tho. I will say, the Isaiah Rashad point isn’t fair. He didn’t owe it to nobody to come out and people not fw him because of their “beliefs” is weak. He always made vulnerable, introspective music, so I don’t understand why be a fan then if you’re not secure enough as a man to listen to him now.

    Jay Rock is the hardest. K Dot is the most mainstream, when he was on the label. Sza held it down on R&B mainstream level. SchoolBoy Q was a balance of underground and mainstream. Ab Soul is underground and overrated af. Thats all I know. Their release schedules are lazy af!!!!!!!!!! Also, I cant believe Top Dawg is from Watts, with all the talent. Yet he keeps signing bs artists from other places.

    They didn’t just create a good rapper they created arguably the best artist of his era (drake has sold more of course ) but Kendrick is the better rapper and artist ! So that’s like the lakers with Kobe at the end , not a great squad but when you have an all time great the rest really don’t matter , but school boy q went platinum, so that’s a success , ab-souls recent project was well received . Jay rock had a horrid motorcycle accident stopped allot of his progress . And SZA became a bonafide star ⭐️. What more do you want . G dep wasn’t a star, black rob not a star , Craig Mack not a star , mase and biggie 2 stars , the lox weren’t even major stars until recently , so puff and bad boy had like 25 years , and still on 2 stars , TDE has done well as a flagship rap label for the west coast ! It’s not stunted growth at all, they had a great run , and with dropping a few artists and signing some new talent they could do well again . Seems you go hard on the negative for all the west coast artist even if they did well
