I think I saw you all react to "The Carpenters" version of this (incredible version) as well as this masterpiece cover. Not sure if you know this was originally written and performed by the genius that was Leon Russell (RIP). But if you want a three for three great performances, you should listen to his version as well sometime. All three versions different, but great in there own ways. It seems easy with such a brilliant song and talented performers.
So glad you've discovered the gem that is George Benson! Also check out 'Give Me The Night' - one of my faves
‘Affirmation” is also on this album…and you two will really enjoy it!
An r&b masterpiece
My late father had this album on 8-track, playing inside his '69 Buick LeSabre on Saturdays. Wonderful song from a wonderful album.
Please do Leon Russell's version of this song. His is the original, and as good as George Benson is here, I'm still partial to the Master of Time & Space...

George Benson would probably call himself a guitarist who sings; the title track of the album from which this song came, Breezin', is a signature instrumental. In fact, many jazz aficionado fans of his became very disgruntled when he apparently shifted more towards singing, especially when he started to get commercial chart hits. It was a bit like whenever Dylan slung an electric guitar around his neck; they were deemed to be selling out. A similar thing happened to Nat King Cole, one of the greatest vocalists of any era but, for many, a great jazz pianist who should have stayed in his box. Some people like to keep things to themselves.
