    Another great song written by Leon Russell. Benson started out as a singer as a child. Was a street singer at 8 or 9 years old. Recorded as Little Georgie Benson when he was 13 and 14 but realized he had a more marketable talent as a jazz guitarist. Jimmy Smith , the great Hammond B3 man, "discovered" George as a guitarist and he didn't return to singing for almost two decades.

    • @ThePittsburghToddy
      @ThePittsburghToddy 2 года назад +2

      He didn’t start off as a singer. He played ukulele outside of a drugstore in Pittsburgh at the age of eight. Afterwards, George played guitar at a nightclub, also in Pittsburgh, at ages of nine and ten until the club was shut down because of his age. He wasn’t comfortable with his vocal skills until much later.🖖🏼

    He's an incredibly talented man and at 79 years old there's no sign of his stopping. He was once asked to play a track for a modern band. He sat down with guitar 🎸 while listening to a demo and composed as he listened. He still loves to tour as well. I watched an interview with him from last year. Personally I Love his songs "On Broadway" and "The Greatest Love Of All" which was the original version. One of My favourite Love Songs is also his "Nothing's Going To Change My Love For You".

    George Benson is an American guitarist, singer, & songwriter. He began his professional career at the age of 19 as a jazz guitarist. He covers different genres or styles such as jazz, pop, R&B & scat singing. His Breezin' album was one of the biggest selling of all time. He has such a smooth mellow voice. He has had so many great hits both singing & instrumental such as "On Broadway," "Breezin'", "The Greatest Love Of All", "Love All The Hurt Away," "Turn Your Love Around," "Inside Love," "Lady Love Me," "20/20," "Shiver," "Kisses In The Moonlight", "Affirmation" etc.

    I remember hearing George doing on Broadway on the radio when I was a kid. In 2003 I was in Tampa and a girl I was dating wanted to go see George do a concert there. She thought she was introducing him to me. I confessed that I didn't think I had any of his music in my CD collection. But when I looked I found that he did a track on an album Chet Atkins put together called Stay Tuned. George and Chet played together on one track. Chet actually played with a different artist on each track, including Larry Carlton, Earl Klugh and Mark Knopfler. It's kind of cheesy '90s jazz that sounds like the theme music for televised golf coverage of the day, but it's still one of my favorite CDs!

    Great Job, Harri, featuring George Benson doing “This Masquerade.” He is a consummate entertainer and extraordinary musician and singer. His catalog is deep. I look forward to seeing more GB on your channel. Thank you.
    I left a similar note on your “Unforgettable” reaction video. When my wife and I saw GB in concert in the mid-90s, he did a brilliant cover of “Unforgettable.” After nailing Nat King Cole’s voice and style he said “If you think that was crazy, listen to this!” He then proceeded to sing Natalie’s part in her voice ,and nailed that too. It was wild and impressive as hell.
    One thing I’ve learned and believe: we can never think we have seen and heard all the great muskc there is.

    This Is Absolute Benson in Dublin with the BBC orchestra. George Benson is a living legend. One of the greatest jazz guitarists ever. Yes, most are familiar with his more contemporary sound Breezing and beyond. But many forget that George is first and foremost a jazz guitartist, who, after playing jazz gigs for years from a young age with guys like Jack McDuff and Barney Kessel, happened on a new breakthrough jazz rock sound with Breezing in 1976 - that brought him great commercial success. There are as many who adore the great guitarist legend, who sometimes criticise him for "selling out" on straight ahead jazz. But who can blame him. After 30-odd years of playing the jazz circuits with little financial and other reward in return, and almost giving up guitar-playing as a result he deviated into a commercial brand which had made him famous. George Benson as a jazz guitarist iro every genre of jazz, is KING. It is actually unfair to say he is underrated - I don't think he is at all. In fact he is living legend and an icon. Quite the genius. As an example when it comes to his jazz roots I suggest interested parties watch a youtube video george benson with McCoy Tyner - just watch him playing the jazz classic Stella by Starlight and you'll see why I say GB is pure genius. We should be thankful we have a jazz guitar legend stilla around with us today. One of the last of the old legends still here with us. Many try to sound like him .. but there is only truly one GB. Love you Georgie

    Good show. George Benson is the "God's-Honest .. " man. Always has been. Brother STAYS on Key. He has past 100k hours long, long ago of his expertise and in these years, goes "Gode-Mode". "Know" what I'm saying? You can't even push him off. He's glued to the Track. Has that Finely-tuned "Guitar-Ear". Benson and the "Musicality of Sound" go way back. When Benson takes you on a "Skat", you might find yourself riding all the way Up and all the way Down the scale like he is he's "Water" .. think Bruce Lee could relate.
    George Benson, Stays triggering the "Candy" .. Mowing down "ALL KINDS OF ASS", he Leaves no Ear behind. "Doubter's" just don't live on Benson's block. He does what he does and Channels "Ridiculousness" after "Ridiculousness". Heh! Pushing the rewind button every few seconds to moments ..
    It must be said Again though in ending this. Can't even PUSH the man off-key. It's just not a thing. It's not possible. Think he was born "on-key". Stays in that realm and moves through the melody perfectly. Like Bees to the Honeycomb. His "Vocal Prowess" can make the head Explode off. Off into the next state. Mind-blowing. Karate-like "Vocal Handle's" in the Run, get's all musical "Joggers" out the Paint! His effortless, "Symone Biles-like" Vocal Acrobatics are again, Mind-blowing and "Precisely Perfect" .. So much respect for his craft.
    Every thing he does, "Chef's Kiss"! .. have some "Moody Mood's" on "Broadway" ..

    A famous jazz pianist was asked, How? His answer, "Anything you can sing - you can play."

    Oh there's something about George's voice! It's so mellow, but so strong at the same time. His version of "On Broadway" will give you chills. Also give his video "Give Me the Night" a watch! He does the entire video on roller skates. Hadn't heard this one for many years. Happy to rediscover it through your channel.

    You gotta react to the studio version of this song.
    He sounds tired and exhausted in this live version. ✌️😐

    There's a website called Second hand songs that has a list of every cover of this song. It's astounding, and apparently ongoing, as the last entry was from November 2021. Got to be one of the most covered songs of all time.
