That female percussionist has worked with Kenny Logins, Michael McDonald, and many others, plus she worked on the Tonight Show, back in the day with Jay Leno, etc. A very talented musician and vocalist. I can’t remember her name, but I remember her performances. That’s what happens when one gets old…..😏
George Benson is an American guitarist, singer, & songwriter. He began his professional career at the age of 19 as a jazz guitarist. He covers different genres or styles such as jazz, pop, R&B & scat singing. His Breezin' album was one of the biggest selling of all time. He has such a smooth mellow voice. He has had so many great hits both singing & instrumental such as "This Masquerade", "On Broadway," "Breezin'", "The Greatest Love Of All", "Give Me The Night", "Love All The Hurt Away," "Turn Your Love Around," "Inside Love," "Lady Love Me," "20/20," "Shiver," "Kisses In The Moonlight", "Affirmation" etc.
"Lady Love Me" is my favorite. I've become obsessed with during the time I've been working at home...for the last (nearly) two years. I play it often and dance around the home office to jumpstart the day.
I'm 66 years old and am elated to hear a younger generation introducing themselves to the music I grew up with. It just goes to show that it needn't be rebooted or reimagined to be good.
Ain't it great, Clarence? I LOVE this music, and it is great to witness young people discovering and appreciating what gave us so much joy! It was a great time for music, optimism, and a naive materialism (foolish, but sort of fun).
God I feel old saying this, but music was so much damn better in the Eighties! I guess i'm just too old now, because old guys used to say the same thing in the Eighties, "music was so much better in the 1950s!" When they said that, I just thought to myself, "no it wasn't, old guy!" But now here I am doing the same damn thing! 😣
Great song. George was one of the standout R&B singers of the late70's and most of the 80s. Some of his other great tunes include "Turn Your Love Around", "Inside Love", and "Lady Love Me (One More Time)". SO.... yeah, the guy sang a lot of love songs. But for your next one, I HIGHLY recommend "On Broadway". It's a classic. And, to Amber's last comment... yes. We are cool. Every one of us. :)
I fell down the GB rabbit hole last week! It's amazing how much music is FORGOTTEN by "classic" "hits" "oldies" radio stations. It's criminal. I "forget" ALL the music he has!
I remember being on a camping trip with my parents and their friends who also had RVs in 1980 when this song was popular. I was 12, and it's like the music of a memory.
George Benson is a “real deal” talent. He was a star in the late 1970s and 1980s. Check out Breezin’, On Broadway, Turn Your Love Around, and This Masquerade.
George is a great R&B singer but he is also a renowned jazz guitarist. His album Breezin' is one of my all-time favorites. I highly highly recommend you checking out the title track (Breezin'), This Masquerade and Affirmation from that album. If you like tasty guitar, these songs will be just what the doctor ordered. 🎸🎸🎸
Totally second your suggestion of Breezin And This Masquerade. On Broadway, and Turn your love around - then the romantic ballad Your the love of my Life… could go on and on.
My favorite thing about George Benson is when he sings the guitar licks while he is playing them. He did it some in this song but does it very well in "On Broadway". Killer!
Came here to say this. He is known for scatting along with his solos, singing exactly the notes that he's playing. His "On Bradway" is my favorite version of that song
Mike Miller. Yes, that is the defining characteristic of his music for me. It sets him so far apart from other guitarists. His talent on the guitar is phenomenal and the singing of the licks in unison doubles the impact of the notes for me. That’s the best way I have to say it. BTW, I have that album!
80's was a time before the gov't and media didn't work 24/7 to separate everyone. Well they did but they didn't have the internet and 3000 channels to blast it everyday. We definitely had our problems but we had them together. crazy hair styles, clothes and music. A lot less judgment and a lot more fun. just my opinion from someone who has been through it. Love the channel. Keep up the great work!
Totally agree, add me to the list. And we lived through tougher times than now. Our parents and Grandparents dealt with some very tough times by comparison. We were blessed and likely held together by the great music, even though we didn't realize just how good it was until, well modern music came to show us. When I'm being one of those "back in my day" kinda guys I hear a song like Give Me the Night and am clearly reminded...yes indeed, Back in My Day was something better.
I have to agree. As a kid growing up in the 70s and early 80s, our worlds were a lot smaller and our neighborhoods were a lot bigger. The conomy was tough for lots of people. Interst rates were sky high. Crime was really bad in the cities, kidnappings, serial killers, but that didn't stop us from having fun. There were definitely lots of problems but among the biggest divisive subject I remember among young adults was Disco or Rock? That was a huge division. Other than that, it seemed like everyone liked roller skates, riding bikes, cruising, hanging out in the parking lot w the car radio blasting, smokin in the boys room, playing ball or swimming at the park, having fun. The 70s and 80s were largely about having fun with other people. Outside. Nobody stayed home unless they were sick. Even older people did things like bowling, bingo night at the church, playing pool, hangin out at the neighborhood bar.
First off...I love your channel. You both have the best personalities and have the same appreciation for music that I have. George Benson is the bomb! I play the bass guitar; how about that funky bass?! Also, you two are looking good! Amber is looking fit! Peace and love to you both. 💌
Three George Benson songs I would love to see you review is George is a musician first!!! So proud of y'all getting turn on to this beautiful music and y'all are in no way lame ever. Love you guys!!! Keep it up please!!! ❤❤❤❤ 1. Masquerade 2. The Greatest Love of All (I Believe the Children are our Feature) 3. On Broadway
Rod Temperton wrote this song- along with "Boogie Nights", "The Groove Line", and "Always and Forever" (for the group he was in ;Heatwave). He also wrote some great songs for Michael Jackson- "Rock With You", "Off the Wall ", "Lady in my Life", "Burn this Disco out", and "Thriller (which started off as starlight)". Give me the night by George Benson is such a fantastic song.
Mr. Benson is an American treasure! He sang "The Greatest Love of All" eons before Ms. Houston. "This Masquerade", "On Broadway", "Turn Your Love Around", "Breezin", are just a few of his classics. Then there is my personal favorite, "While The City Sleeps." O' the day, when music had meaning!
Yes... Love George Benson!! My favourite is "On Broadway". Try having a listen to Chuck Mangione's "Feels So Good" from this same era. Chuck plays flugelhorn, it's similar to a coronet/trumpet. Amber I'm sure you'll love it.
I agree wholeheartedly about Chuck Mangione - "Feels So Good" is on my list of instrumental songs to improve my mood (along with Spyro Gyra's "Morning Dance" and "Little Linda" from roughly the same time period).
George Benson is one of my favorite jazz guitarists. This song was written by Rod Temperton, who was the driving force behind the group Heatwave - which is a band y'all have GOT to listen to. He also wrote "Off The Wall", "Rock With You", "Thriller" for Michael Jackson, "Stomp" for Brothers Johnson, "Spice of Life" for Manhattan Transfer, and "Razzmatazz" for Quincy Jones, among many other songs. George really put soul into this recording. Y'all should also give the cover by Randy Crawford a listen.
Temperton was an absolute master of the art professional. He was the songwriters signwriter. One of the biggest legendary writers of all time. I would put him up there near Burt Bacharach.
One of my favorite jazz artists that I've been suggesting for ages! Yay! You've got to check out his song "On Broadway". It's probably his most popular song. Also... "Turn Your Love Around" "Breezin'" "Love x Love" (Love Times Love). Al Jarreau better be coming up soon! Scat, scat, scat...jazz, jazz, jazz....Vocalease! *Al Jarreau* "Roof Garden" "Boogie Down" "Mornin'" "Moonlighting" (theme from the TV show of the same name) "Spain" "Take Five" "Trouble In Paradise"
Nice that you reacted to a Jazz artist. George Benson was one of the crossover artist to the Pop charts. Listen to “Breezin’”, “On Broadway” and “Greatest Love of All”.
I wish somebody would bring back 🛼 skating back like the video … music like this skating my life evey Friday night; 35-40 years later I reminense. I’m 52 now and put my skates on in a heartbeat.
Finally, Jazz! Great choice guys. Next jazz artist suggestion Al Jarreau "Roof Garden" "Mornin" "Take Five" "Breakin' Away" "We're in This Love Together" Female Friday soul group The Emotions: "Flowers" "I Don't Wanna Lose Your Love" "Best of My Love" "Don't Ask My Neighbor" "Boogie Wonderland" with EWF
The history behind this song is so deep. So it was written by the British composer Rod Temperton who wrote, Thriller, Rock With You and many more for MJ. He also wrote Boogie Nights, Always & Forever, Gangsters of the Groove, and many more for the band he was in, Heatwave and wrote hit after hit. Sweet Freedom for Michael Mcdonald, Yah Mo Be There again, Michael Mcdonald and James Ingram. Stomp for the Brothers Johnson. The Carpenters, Klymaxx, Mica Paris, Wayne Hernandez, Rufus & Chaka Khan, Herbie Hancock, Donna Summer and so many more artists. The backing singer on this track was Patti Austin (a female Friday one for you) whom he wrote Baby Come to Me for (duet with James Ingram) the following year after this. Rod Temperton was a musical genius but not many people are aware of his existance but thanks to you guys, his music lives on. x
George Benson is just seriously...one of the greatest jazz guitarists ever. If there is an Eddie Van Halen of jazz, jazz fusion, and r&B guitarists, George is it. And he is in a class all his own. As much as I love his voice...when his fingers fly up and down a fret board, he is sublime. My personal favorite Benson song..."Turn Your Love Around". But...he has so many that I am seeing other people mention. Although, I will say his rendition of "On Broadway" is also amazing, and opens one of my favorite films, Bob Fosse's 'All That Jazz'. All that happens is a dancers' cattle call audition for the chorus of a Broadway musical and how it plays out as George sings "On Broadway"...but the visuals and the song convey a magic as the film begins.
Like I'm back in high school😎 . This song came out in 1980 and he won a Grammy for Best R & B Vocal Performance for it that same year. Yes Amber, this song was a staple at the roller skating rink!
And his version of Bobby Caldwells song- "What you won't do for love," was almost as spot on and as good as the original to the point where people have gotten confused over who actually made it first.
Jazz/Soul, George Benson was very popular in the 80's, love his style, he also did a lot of music only tracks and I've just discovered his collaboration with Al Jareau on Spotify
The Backing Vocal In the actual recording is patti Austin...In the Video was vicki Randell. She was Part of Jay Leno's Band, and Played with Kenny Logins
I grew up listening to George Benson and still have my mum's records. His music reminds me of falling asleep, laid across the back seat of the car (who needed seat belts in the 80s!), and nap time in front of the fire. So relaxing.
Patti Austin is the fabulous backup singer. She’s got great hits. Her Dad was a trombonist and her Godmother was the late great Dinah Washington and Godfather is Quincy Jones. Dinah Washington was fabulous. Look up Baby You Got What It Takes with her and Brook Benton.
You guys really need to listen to, "Stomp!" by the Brothers Johnson if you want another fun night out on the town tune with a killer beat you can't resist. One of my faves.
not bad for a fish filleter from Lincolnshire, UK. All his songs are here, but including "Thriller" and "Baby, come to me", "Rock with you" ruclips.net/p/PLaTphtFNVg1l1Kk8YDmy4okJO20j566yL
This was so nice to hear!! ❤ thanks guys for your reaction!! you’re right, our generation was one of a kind❤️🎼George Benson is awesome, his songs are all great!! 👏🏻❤️🎼
I have always loved George Benson. His ballads are beautiful, too. My favourite songs are, 'Masquerade', 'Nature Boy' and 'The Greatest Love of All'❤ Really enjoying your channel, thank you both🤗
Born and raised in Pittsburgh PA jazz and blues great George Benson can get you feeling good with his music especially this gem. Another great song to give a listen to is TURN YOUR LOVE AROUND.
This song was produced by Quincy Jones in the 80s, around the time he started working with Michael Jackson. You can hear a similar sound to Michael Jackson's Off the Wall Stuff and a bit of the Thriller songs. So Quincy Jones.
Benson's "starmaker" song was Masquerade, if I remember correctly. On Broadway was a huge hit. He also did a beautiful Unchained Melody, and Greatest Love of All.
George Benson, now we’re talking jazz! This was a very popular song, and he was very popular with his exceptional jazz style in music. Brings a smile to my face when I listen to these greats do their thing, thank you👍👍👍‼️‼️
Two of my favorites from George Benson: "On Broadway" and "This Masquerade". He was one of the best things to come out of the 1970s, to me. A top-level singer and guitarist. He's still touring today.
My Main Man George! YES! a smooth silky voice that R&B with Brilliant songs & Hits like ‘Love X Love’ ‘Lady Love me (one more time) & ‘In your Eyes’ just to name a few. A Fantastic artist & singer & guitarist of his generation. MORE PLZZZzzzz T y for the post & your reactions & Incite.
I’m so glad you did this. George Benson is quite amazing and is often overlooked and under appreciated. He’s an amazing guitarist with a beautiful voice. Fun fact: he was a child prodigy who played his first paid gigs at age 8!! Wonderful artist who definitely deserves more attention. 🌺✌️
By far one of the best intros to any song ever made. You can't but smile and groove alil while listening to this song. Such a great feel to it! For the record, that congo player is BEAUTIFUL!!
A legendary jazz guitarist genius. I had this album in the 80's and an older one called Breezin'. He's soooo good. This cool jazz tune made it on radio charts back in the day. Never gets old!
This was a special time! They don’t do it like that anymore! I could hear the Quincy Jones in this song. Definitely A “Q” production. Please react to GBs “Masquerade”!
Listen to him singing “On Broadway” live! He was a master guitarist
Yes!!!
That's the song my Dad would dance and sing with me when I was 11 or twelve, love Curtis Mayfield 🙂
Yes! "On Broadway"!!!
The live video with him in the red shirt is AMAZING
George Benson is an exceptional jazz guitarist who can play what he is singing. Listen to This Masquerade

Breezin is another great song,.
Breezin with Santana and Benson well worth the listen
Yes! 'Turn Your Love Around'!
"Lady Love Me" is my favorite. I've become obsessed with during the time I've been working at home...for the last (nearly) two years. I play it often and dance around the home office to jumpstart the day.
I do reaction videos while im high af on my RUclips channel 🥶

HAVe to review Masquerade

@@isaactearii476 Probably, right?! 😂 Unavoidable, I guess. At least you're wise beyond your years for realizing that!
Great song. George was one of the standout R&B singers of the late70's and most of the 80s. Yes yes “Lady love me”
All excellent songs,
But, also some really great JAZZ ❗️
📻🙂
😂
I remember being on a camping trip with my parents and their friends who also had RVs in 1980 when this song was popular. I was 12, and it's like the music of a memory.
George Benson is a “real deal” talent. He was a star in the late 1970s and 1980s. Check out Breezin’, On Broadway, Turn Your Love Around, and This Masquerade.
You may know this version of Breezin with Benson and Carlos Santana - if not, it's a gem. ruclips.net/video/CfFuD7qSeR0/видео.html
YES, YES, YES, to ALL four! One of my all-time faves as a kid in the 70's. Still have him on vinyl.
What he said!!!!
He's still huge around the world
YES❗️ - ALL of the above ❗️
📻🙂
When this jam comes on, my kids run screaming ‘cause they know their Dad’s about to bust a move!
Lol!
Lol. Don't bust too much. You could HURT something important. We had THE greatest music.
Well done Dad❤❤❤
😂😂
George is a great R&B singer but he is also a renowned jazz guitarist. His album Breezin' is one of my all-time favorites. I highly highly recommend you checking out the title track (Breezin'), This Masquerade and Affirmation from that album. If you like tasty guitar, these songs will be just what the doctor ordered. 🎸🎸🎸
Thanks great to educate us on different genres 😊
Totally second your suggestion of Breezin And This Masquerade. On Broadway, and Turn your love around - then the romantic ballad Your the love of my Life… could go on and on.
I wore out the vinyl on my copy of Breezin'
George Benson and Carlos Santana - Breezin' - if you've not seen it yet. ruclips.net/video/CfFuD7qSeR0/видео.html
My Mom loved George Benson! I'm so lucky to have grown up in a house full of great music.
George Benson is a treasure of the music world. His "On Broadway" is a masterpiece !!!!
Amen to that!
Oh for sure!!
My ex is a guitar player and said that is very difficult to do. George makes it sound easy!
Finally! George Benson!! Yahoo
Another one of my favorites from 70s - 80s.
Same here, we'll said!
Yep, I was in HS and college in the 80s and it was a much better time! 24 HR news and social media has caused so much hatred in the world. Sad.
Amen brother!
On broadway and masquerade. Masterpieces to react to. This is early 80s i was skating to this at 13
Turn your Love Around, another good one from him.
Yes!!!!!
Definitely. That’s my jam. Lol
First off...I love your channel. You both have the best personalities and have the same appreciation for music that I have. George Benson is the bomb! I play the bass guitar; how about that funky bass?! Also, you two are looking good! Amber is looking fit! Peace and love to you both.

George Benson is a guitar hero of the highest order. Jazz, Rock, R&B, Blues. He is the man. Great voice, great scatman too! So good! 🔥🤙
Three George Benson songs I would love to see you review is George is a musician first!!!
So proud of y'all getting turn on to this beautiful music and y'all are in no way lame ever.

2. The Greatest Love of All (I Believe the Children are our Feature)
3. On Broadway
Omgosh. George Benson! Singing and scatting. Next listen to This Masquerade or On Broadway. He has so many great songs.
Totally agree 👍
Agree! He had a unique ability to scat with his voice and match it with his guitar.
Contemporary jazz and my mother went to this concert and got us a babysitter, it was that big of a deal!
George Benson is such a talented guitarist! Y'all should check out his song "Turn Your Love Around". Great song, great music!!!
Rod Temperton wrote this song- along with "Boogie Nights", "The Groove Line", and "Always and Forever" (for the group he was in ;Heatwave). Temperton was the go to songwriter in the mid 1970's to early 80's
Rod is such a legend… always and forever is a timeless classic!!
I didn’t know Rod Templeton wrote all those songs! Heatwave was one of my favorite groups. And I’ll keep suggesting they hear them.
Temperton was an absolute master of the art professional. He was the songwriters signwriter. One of the biggest legendary writers of all time. I would put him up there near Burt Bacharach.
sounds like a quincy jones arrangement

You've got to check out his song
"On Broadway".
It's probably his most popular song. Also...

Nice that you reacted to a Jazz artist. George Benson was one of the crossover artist to the Pop charts. Listen to “Breezin’”, “On Broadway” and “Greatest Love of All”.
He’s a great jazz musician, who did an interesting pop career, too. Like this late 70’s disco hit.
I wish somebody would bring back 🛼 skating back like the video … music like this skating my life evey Friday night; 35-40 years later I reminense. I’m 52 now and put my skates on in a heartbeat.
Love george listened to him in my teen years in the late 80s from the uk ❤
Oh dear, I love “This Masquerade” by George Benson. So beautiful!

Rod Temperton was a musical genius but not many people are aware of his existance but thanks to you guys, his music lives on. x

Agreed! George Benson is a phenomenal talent. Makes it all look easy when you know it’s not.
Love George Benson and an amazing song.
This song blew up in 1980! It packed the dance floor everywhere.
Like I'm back in high school😎 . This song came out in 1980 and he won a Grammy for Best R & B Vocal Performance for it that same year. Yes Amber, this song was a staple at the roller skating rink!
Check out his version of "This Masqurade" which is a song written by Leon Russell.
THIS.
"This Masquerade" The 12" version. You won't be disappointed!
And his version of Bobby Caldwells song- "What you won't do for love," was almost as spot on and as good as the original to the point where people have gotten confused over who actually made it first.
Ya'll got it. This is skating rink music back in the day!
George is a top-shelf jazz guitarist with a fantastic voice. For him to go roller-skating with a $5K guitar around his neck is straight-up alien.
George Benson's what's a jazz guitarist check out his song star of the story you guys will love 💕. Love you guys keep up the good!!
Benson is soul jazz artist and a superb guitarists 🎸 enjoy his music guys
Written by Rod Temperton an English man from Cleethorpes , song writer to the stars , keyboard player and song writer for the band Heatwave
Jazz/Soul, George Benson was very popular in the 80's, love his style, he also did a lot of music only tracks and I've just discovered his collaboration with Al Jareau on Spotify
Great album!
George Benson is a legend
The Backing Vocal In the actual recording is patti Austin...In the Video was vicki Randell. She was Part of Jay Leno's Band, and Played with Kenny Logins
I love this song from 80 dame la Noche
I grew up listening to George Benson and still have my mum's records. His music reminds me of falling asleep, laid across the back seat of the car (who needed seat belts in the 80s!), and nap time in front of the fire. So relaxing.
OMG I remember car rides with George Benson on. Reminds me of living in San Francisco and driving home at night
George Benson is a damn genius, one of the greats
Fun fact side note, the song was written by (the late, great) Rod Temperton who also wrote hit songs for MJ like Thriller & Off ths Wall.
Interesting.
That girl he’s with in the video is in the Thriller video as well.
Amber's hooked! filmed along the beachsise strand in Santa Monica! also try Earl Klugh("clue"). see y'all later, sooners.
Yes the female singer has just the most beautiful voice. Those high notes are crazy!
Nothing's better than "Turn Your Love Around" by George Benson. Give that a listen one day. You'll love the groove . . . it's awesome!
This was so nice to hear!! ❤ thanks guys for your reaction!! you’re right, our generation was one of a kind❤️🎼George Benson is awesome, his songs are all great!! 👏🏻❤️🎼
George Benson is a great singer and an awesome guitar player, he is jazz and R&B.
'Turn Your Love Around' is another George Benson that has this vibe. Also 'Lady Love Me' & 'On Broadway'
one of my faves as a kid. he's not motown lol. my parents took me to his concert. he's largely jazz.
YASSS! This was sure to get everyone on the floor back in HS. Love George Benson.
This song was produced by Quincy Jones in the 80s, around the time he started working with Michael Jackson. You can hear a similar sound to Michael Jackson's Off the Wall Stuff and a bit of the Thriller songs. So Quincy Jones.
George Benson's "On Broadway " will take your breath away. Find a live performance if you can, his guitar is amazing!
Agreed. The live performance. of. "On Broadway" that is electric is on his "Welcome to L.A." album.
I grew up to this music!!! The Great Mr George Benson!!!
I always considered George a jazz man. He's a badass.
Brings a smile to my face when I listen to these greats do their thing, thank you👍👍👍‼️‼️
He was the conductor in USA for Africa.
ON BROADWAY
LOVE this song AND so glad y’all did the video and saw him getting down on the 🛼🛼!💃💝💙👍
The genre it fits in is called Cool.😊
Absolutely!
George Benson did a great version of the Beatles' Here, There, and Everywhere. It's worth a listen. Heck, it's worth a thousand listens!
This is so Mr. Benson...he was wonderful!
So much to love in this song, love the backup vocals
GB is multi-genre....jazz, r n b, pop
Two of my favorites from George Benson: "On Broadway" and "This Masquerade". He was one of the best things to come out of the 1970s, to me. A top-level singer and guitarist. He's still touring today.
My Main Man George! YES! a smooth silky voice that R&B with Brilliant songs & Hits like ‘Love X Love’ ‘Lady Love me (one more time) & ‘In your Eyes’ just to name a few. A Fantastic artist & singer & guitarist of his generation. MORE PLZZZzzzz T y for the post & your reactions & Incite.
"Lady Love me one more time " tops my list...worth a listen !
This is a classic I grew up with as a kid…it’s still a favorite
I’m so glad you did this. George Benson is quite amazing and is often overlooked and under appreciated. He’s an amazing guitarist with a beautiful voice. Fun fact: he was a child prodigy who played his first paid gigs at age 8!! Wonderful artist who definitely deserves more attention. 🌺✌️
By far one of the best intros to any song ever made. You can't but smile and groove alil while listening to this song. Such a great feel to it! For the record, that congo player is BEAUTIFUL!!
Also his original version of "The Greatest Love of All" which you may have heard Whitney sing, is one of the best inspirational songs of all time!
that is one solid bass line 😀
If you could experience what it was like " back in the day " at ANY skating rink when THIS one came on ??!?! This song got the floor MOVIN' !
A legendary jazz guitarist genius. I had this album in the 80's and an older one called Breezin'. He's soooo good. This cool jazz tune made it on radio charts back in the day. Never gets old!
Just loving the youngsters expressions when they listen to our jams!
"The Greatest Love of All" is a must of his guys...can't even describe how powerful this song is :)
This was a special time! They don’t do it like that anymore! I could hear the Quincy Jones in this song. Definitely A “Q” production. Please react to GBs “Masquerade”!
