Up until when I was about 12 that version you speak of was the version I knew, when I was 13 the version with the lyrics “heaven sings ‘alleluia’, ‘Alleluia’, the Earth replies” were what I got thrown at me for my school’s Nine Lessons and Carols service and for about three years I struggled to put the melody to the words

I will keep Jesus and world can have the rest.
