I put this on my early bronco conversion with 4.11 gears. This solved my early shift. This also solved my hard downshift problem. I would have to really step on the gas for it to downshift. This also raised my overdrive to come in around 50 miles per hour. If you change your AOD car or truck with taller gears then you need this. Aftermarket universal fits nothing.
Did you already have a shift kit in your trans before adding the hi rev kit?
Whoa, so I clicked on your channel name and I see Morro Bay in the background... You're local to me!?? Im in Osos. Looking to use this kit on my AOD for my 331 build (70 mustang vert)
I just installed a AOD in my 63 and it has 3.73 gears in it with 25” tall tires. I experiencing this quick up shift issue as well and also feeling like it’s always bogging the engine. You thinks this is just a governor issue or do you recommend doing the valve body as well. Thanks for the info.
When you rebuilt the transmission was it your first rodeo? I have an aod transmission I want to rebuild and I wonder what I'm in for I've done a timing belt before on an Xterra that's about as deep as I've gone mechanically
I have a 89 lincoln mark vii 3.27 gears. Aod shifts too early with that gear. At 45 its already un overdrive
where can I find this
Thanks for the video! I resurrected a '91 LTD Crown Vic from a barn recently. It has the 5.0 and AOD. I am about to drop the pan, replace the filter etc but I was thinking about doing a shift kit or new valve body. The car is going to be a mild cruiser, so I do not want something that shifts real hard or revs real high. I just want it to stay in gear a bit longer. In your other video you mention the TCI valve body shifts real hard - good to know. I am assuming that you are running the hirev + hp reprogramming kit. How does this setup behave?
I have the reprogramming kit in my aod in my fairlane. I installed it for the 300hp recommendations (will be there after top end swap) but currently stock 180hp 302. It will chirp the tires going into 2nd wot if you hold it in gear (havent done the governor yet). Part throttle shifting is maybe more than i would want in a regular driver, but acceptable. I never used the trans before the shift kit, so ive nothing to compare to besides the 4R70 in my Tbird which shifts terribly soft even after the rebuild by a reputable transmission shop. That said, the instructions give you a couple different ways to tune the shifts. If this was to be a driver as opposed to a street strip car, i would drill the throttle body as advised, but leave the stock accumulator springs. This would quicken the shifts, but not make them as "harsh". Harsh isnt quite the right word, it doesnt jar your teeth out, but you know it shifts.
As for the governor, stock with stock gearing its my understanding they shift around 4500. The governor kit is designed for 4.11s according to a couple aod shops i spoke with. So if you use the governor kit and have 327 or 3.55 gears, it will shift higher than 5k, or if you have 4.56 or 4.88, it will still shift under 5k.
Hi thanks I have a 1968 whide a aod transmission I have use you video to help rebuild it, I have a problem with early shift, it make the motor shake.
I will tried to do this Governor Recalibration
What pan gasket did you use?
