Say what you want about this season, whether you think it’s one of the best or one of the most forgettable. One thing you can’t deny: Bob is one of the best winners this show has had. What’s wild about Cynthia’s elimination is: shortly after she was eliminated, it turned out that she had stage 1 liver cancer. And her leaving the show so early meant she caught it super early, which allowed her to get treated for it and beat it relatively quickly. So at least that was a good outcome. Also, Cynthia has said that one of the people who visited her the most in the hospital was Acid Betty, so that was a good counteracting of the villain edit Betty got on the season.
The only iconic moment was Violet's finale Dress let's be real. There were AMAZING moments but not everything was ICONIC Let's not throw the word iconic around so much.

Season 8 was the first season I watched and “the season of vibes” is honestly the best description for it. It’s not my favourite season anymore, but I’ll always love it just for being so chill and a great introduction to the show

The thing about Kim getting the win in the first episode is the fact that Acid’s was very similar to the garments that were made in season 3 while Kim Chi’s was very unique and showed who she is and that’s why she got the win!
I also think the fact that Kim won while not having a bottom isn't necessarily rigged? Like, looking at that design and what she was working with, I feel like it could have easily tipped over into messy if she had done something more. (Though I do agree that she could have done something with the bra.) Now, does Layla deserve bottom for her outfit? No, I don't think she does. But I do think the bottoms detract from the whole outfit a bit. They feel like an afterthought, a "oh shit I'm out of time" addition, where I didn't feel that looking at Kim's bodysuit.

Applause, I Will Survive, Mesmerize, Call Me, I Love It, And I'm Telling You, You Make Me Feel... And, apart from I Will Survive, all of them served good to amazing performances.

Wild to say Bob did a teeny bit better than Thorgy in Empire. Bob delivered the best acting challenge performance of all time. Thorgy was good, but nowhere near Bobs level in that challenge.
Hard agree. It always boggles my mind when people say they did anywhere near the same in performance. Thorgy did a good job with the script, but Bob elevated the performance to insane levels with her improv and completely blew EVERYONE out of the water. I like Thorgy but sometimes it feels like people gas up her performances in S8 too much, especially with the Bob comparisons.
I think the main reason for the double elimination was WHAT the song was. For the older gays, if I had to pick an ultimate gay anthem, it would be "I Will Survive". If this was at a bar, Ru would have booed them off the stage.

I feel like such a granny when I tell people my first season was half way through season 1 and at the time it was just airing the episodes on tv, so I had no way to go back and rewatch the first few episodes. I was still hooked. Was sooo excitied for season 2 to come out and my god did it deliver! 😂. I truly miss the unhinged editing and queens not giving two effs about anything seasons.
I'm surprised you didn't talk more about the planning behind Layla and daxes double elimination. To me I knew before they even started lip syncing that it would be a double sashay because I think we all knew both of them weren't front runners, but for some odd reason production chooses one of the best lip syncing songs for them and ru and Michale straight up tell us "this should be amazing lip, this is one if the greatest". No wonder they both went home, it was obvious production wanted them to fuck up a favorite to justify both of them going home.
I fully agree with this whole video but honestly i would much rather no one go home in the last episode and there’s a top 4. we were robbed of a chi chi solo performance in the finale. same with kennedy on season 7 😢
This was a great season, I actually just started re-watching it the other day. Bob absolutely deserved her win and I think Chi Chi shined brighter here than she did on All Stars. The first time around I remember being surprised with how the judges were reacting to Thorgy because I could see how hard she was working but looking at it a second time I think her struggling to focus combined with her frustrations with Bob in a way that she wasn't giving her all during the challenges. I loved Kim too, it was nice seeing someone talk about struggles with confidence and being their true self. Ru trying to pressure her into coming out to her folks set off some alarm bells though. Overall great season and RIP to our bayou queen
2:33 The premiere episode of the season was never even the 100th episode. 😂 Episode 100 was was actually episode 7. Production seemed to have randomly decided to include the 6 episodes of All Stars S1 towards the 100 episode count which evidently shouldn’t have counted as All Stars S1 was technically a separate show. The 200th episode in S15 didn’t have the rest of the All Stars seasons’ episodes within its episode count so it made no sense that the 100th episode did.
Starting new viewers with Season 8 is a BONKERS choice. I could understand 9, but 8 is short and it’s SO obvious who is winning. I always tell people to start with Season 4 (or Season 5), because the through line of 4, 5, 6, and 7, into AS2, is so gratifying. My straight brother very much enjoyed that viewing experience, although, in retrospect, he liked Season 5 so much he felt he could’ve skipped Season 4. Anyway. Much respect to Bob and especially also Kim, Naomi, and of course ChiChi. Season 8 is a good season. I just wouldn’t start anyone on it.

Chi Chi was an amazing performer, and if she would've gotten to do the finale number, I wouldn't bet that she couldn't have snatched the crown.. granted, Bob did absolutely great and was certainly deserving of the win, esp with the entire season's narrative, but.. Bob should have been high Episode 1! I will die on this hill!!! That outfit was a moment, and made out of ugly curtains no less! My tinfoil hat explanation is that they wanted TDQ to have the comedy queen who's not great at looks edit (probably when they saw her roller girl catsuit they were like oh yeah, she's the one for this storyline) so she couldn't get praised for an outfit. So glad to see Derek joining me and Alaska on this hill... Book ball is a GOAT ball. Derek really should have been sent home without a lip sync because everyone else turned it. Honestly any of the other 4 would have won Season 6's ball. Thankfully Bob destroyed the lip sync (underrated lip sync IMO) and used it to solidify her case for the crown.
Season 8 is what I call a “Chill Season” where I knew who the winner was from the second they walked into the werkroom. It’s a nice season to just chill out and enjoy the showcase of drag. Other Chill Seasons include 6 and AS7
i’m probably one of, like, 7 people whose favourite season is season 8 lmao. idk what exactly it is about it, but it’s super cozy to me. i rewatch it once a year and it’s definitely my comfort season. also bob is in my top 3 queens of all time with yvie and katya so there’s that. i feel like i always have to go to bat for it lmao.
The rig guy doesn't know about the true rig on this season. Except maybe not rig but anyways.... so the episode that Cynthia and Robbie lip sync'd is when Cynthia found out she had cancer and needed treatment. Production made all the cast roller skate to see who could skate well and not well. Robbie skated so well that she landed in the bottom against the one needing to be sent home for medical treatment. It’s true, and maybe I’m biased being from San Diego & seeing her every week at MO’s, but when I think of Chad, I don’t immediately think of Cher the same way I think "Britney" with Derrick. Although, that has changed in recent years, of course…Derrick has grown more into a queen who just "looks" like Britney rather than defined by her. But even Chad, with her nearly-identical face to Cher, I still don’t think of as being only a Cher queen.
I would argue that the "Bitch Perfect" challenge being judged as individuals was to save Kim Chi. Dax should have been safe, Kim is low and (hear me out) Cynthia & Laila are in the bottom. Also, to make it less obvious that Bob would win the season, have Thorgy win RuCo's empire & Bob wins Snatch Game & have them be Danny Beard & Cheddar Gorgeous of Season 8 also yeah Bob sincerely apologizing on the main stage did give Bob that winner boost, which I was ALL FOR. also Kim's Kimmy Jon Un is sus to me AND The political Ad challenge was also judged in pairs to protect Kim again
It's worth pointing out that the episode 3 was an acting challenge and not an improv challenge. Sometimes the judges insist on saying lines word for word (recently Michelle was doing that to Vanije in the AS9 rusical episode). The girls from Bob's group were mad at her for adlibing, changing and improvising lines cause it threw them off. I feel like Thorgy should have snagged that win because of that. Now that I think of it, both the acting and snatch game could've ben won by Thorgy instead. Wow. What a separate timeline. If she had won those, would she unravel like she did?
There's a slightly incorrect narrative here about the size of the cast/100th episodd. It's well documented from crew members and Michelle, that the reason the cast and episode count is small is because part of the budget was allocated to make sure AS2 was significantly better than AS1. It was also timing as AS2 was filmed soon after DRS8.
Fun fact if you're trying to get somebody who's not into drag race into drag race- use season 8. Its short enough and compelling enough to get them hooked
Season 8 was also my first season when I discovered Drag Race. I knew of it but when this season came out along with All Stars 2, I have been hooked since. There is so much you can still say about this season despite it being “on its own” as people say.
I tell people to start at 5 too. My ideal watch order is: 5,6,7,8 then 2,3,4 then 9, 10 then AS1, AS2, AS3, AS4, then 11-13, then skip AS5 and watch AS6, AS7 then 14-16.

Absolutely one of my favorite seasons. It's such a unique and refreshing feeling, I often wish we got more chill seasons like this one.

I feel like such a granny when I tell people my first season was half way through season 1 and at the time it was just airing the episodes on tv, so I had no way to go back and rewatch the first few episodes. I was still hooked. Was sooo excitied for season 2 to come out and my god did it deliver! 😂. I truly miss the unhinged editing and queens not giving two effs about anything seasons.
The only thing I remember of Dax from Bitch Perfect is that dance move where she sort of moves her hands around her head.

I'm surprised you didn't talk more about the planning behind Layla and daxes double elimination. To me I knew before they even started lip syncing that it would be a double sashay because I think we all knew both of them weren't front runners, but for some odd reason production chooses one of the best lip syncing songs for them and ru and Michale straight up tell us "this should be amazing lip, this is one if the greatest".
No wonder they both went home, it was obvious production wanted them to fuck up a favorite to justify both of them going home.

This was a great season, I actually just started re-watching it the other day. Bob absolutely deserved her win and I think Chi Chi shined brighter here than she did on All Stars. The first time around I remember being surprised with how the judges were reacting to Thorgy because I could see how hard she was working but looking at it a second time I think her struggling to focus combined with her frustrations with Bob in a way that she wasn't giving her all during the challenges. I loved Kim too, it was nice seeing someone talk about struggles with confidence and being their true self. Ru trying to pressure her into coming out to her folks set off some alarm bells though. Overall great season and RIP to our bayou queen
I know what you mean, 7 and 8 really are in their own little vacuum. So many changes, even down to sets and lighting.
S8 was the first one I watched too cause it was the first season added to Canadian Netflix.
2:33 The premiere episode of the season was never even the 100th episode. 😂 Episode 100 was was actually episode 7. Production seemed to have randomly decided to include the 6 episodes of All Stars S1 towards the 100 episode count which evidently shouldn’t have counted as All Stars S1 was technically a separate show. The 200th episode in S15 didn’t have the rest of the All Stars seasons’ episodes within its episode count so it made no sense that the 100th episode did.

Starting new viewers with Season 8 is a BONKERS choice. I could understand 9, but 8 is short and it’s SO obvious who is winning.
I always tell people to start with Season 4 (or Season 5), because the through line of 4, 5, 6, and 7, into AS2, is so gratifying.
My straight brother very much enjoyed that viewing experience, although, in retrospect, he liked Season 5 so much he felt he could’ve skipped Season 4.
Anyway. Much respect to Bob and especially also Kim, Naomi, and of course ChiChi. Season 8 is a good season. I just wouldn’t start anyone on it.

Chi Chi was an amazing performer, and if she would've gotten to do the finale number, I wouldn't bet that she couldn't have snatched the crown.. granted, Bob did absolutely great and was certainly deserving of the win, esp with the entire season's narrative, but.. Chi Chi would've been the biggest underdog win story we've ever got. she openly struggled very much with resources for her looks, got so much shit for it, but always managed to get through with her charisma, creativity and great performance skills. getting her out on a technicality never sat right with me. a DR win could've been such a great legacy.. still can't believe we lost her so young
I love chi chi but her track record wasn’t strong enough to win, the crown was always gonna be Bob’s, she had everything outside of fashion as well.
I could see them doing with Chi Chi what the did with Shangela and tried to do with Adore, the whole "you're not ready now but you WILL grow". Her run on AS3 makes me sad because the whole season she just seems unhappy and defeated

Bob should have been high Episode 1! I will die on this hill!!! That outfit was a moment, and made out of ugly curtains no less! My tinfoil hat explanation is that they wanted TDQ to have the comedy queen who's not great at looks edit (probably when they saw her roller girl catsuit they were like oh yeah, she's the one for this storyline) so she couldn't get praised for an outfit. So glad to see Derek joining me and Alaska on this hill...
Book ball is a GOAT ball. Derek really should have been sent home without a lip sync because everyone else turned it. Honestly any of the other 4 would have won Season 6's ball. Thankfully Bob destroyed the lip sync (underrated lip sync IMO) and used it to solidify her case for the crown.

Season 8 is what I call a “Chill Season” where I knew who the winner was from the second they walked into the werkroom. It’s a nice season to just chill out and enjoy the showcase of drag. Other Chill Seasons include 6 and AS7
This was my favorite season for no reason, nothing is remarkably special but I still love it.
i’m probably one of, like, 7 people whose favourite season is season 8 lmao. idk what exactly it is about it, but it’s super cozy to me. i rewatch it once a year and it’s definitely my comfort season. also bob is in my top 3 queens of all time with yvie and katya so there’s that. i feel like i always have to go to bat for it lmao.

The rig guy doesn't know about the true rig on this season. Except maybe not rig but anyways.... so the episode that Cynthia and Robbie lip sync'd is when Cynthia found out she had cancer and needed treatment. Production made all the cast roller skate to see who could skate well and not well. Robbie skated so well that she landed in the bottom against the one needing to be sent home for medical treatment. It’s true, and maybe I’m biased being from San Diego & seeing her every week at MO’s, but when I think of Chad, I don’t immediately think of Cher the same way I think "Britney" with Derrick. Although, that has changed in recent years, of course…Derrick has grown more into a queen who just "looks" like Britney rather than defined by her. But even Chad, with her nearly-identical face to Cher, I still don’t think of as being only a Cher queen.
Cynthia Lee Fontaine was the clear worst in the acting challenge, runway and everything. Her runway that episode...I mean, "Stoned over the Nike Logo"
I would argue that the "Bitch Perfect" challenge being judged as individuals was to save Kim Chi. Dax should have been safe, Kim is low and (hear me out) Cynthia & Laila are in the bottom.
Also, to make it less obvious that Bob would win the season, have Thorgy win RuCo's empire & Bob wins Snatch Game & have them be Danny Beard & Cheddar Gorgeous of Season 8

It's worth pointing out that the episode 3 was an acting challenge and not an improv challenge. Sometimes the judges insist on saying lines word for word (recently Michelle was doing that to Vanije in the AS9 rusical episode). The girls from Bob's group were mad at her for adlibing, changing and improvising lines cause it threw them off. I feel like Thorgy should have snagged that win because of that.
Now that I think of it, both the acting and snatch game could've ben won by Thorgy instead. Wow. What a separate timeline. If she had won those, would she unravel like she did?

There's a slightly incorrect narrative here about the size of the cast/100th episodd. It's well documented from crew members and Michelle, that the reason the cast and episode count is small is because part of the budget was allocated to make sure AS2 was significantly better than AS1. It was also timing as AS2 was filmed soon after DRS8.

Season 8 was also my first season when I discovered Drag Race. I knew of it but when this season came out along with All Stars 2, I have been hooked since. There is so much you can still say about this season despite it being “on its own” as people say.
