Thanks very much, I’ve been fascinated with FreeBSD for a long time. The first time I came across the OS I saw a book that was an introduction to the os. The cd that came with the book was a complete install and I was just amazed at the speed and efficiency of it. I kept messing up the os and had to reinstall everything and going back to the W operating system. I liked your video so much that I’m going to download the os again as soon as I can. Nice video Techiechap❗️
You wont be using it for long, and will switch soon back to windows again. As thats what "I'll try fbsd because it sounds exotic" folks do in 99% of the cases.
Let's be honest, the Lenovo ThinkPad 520 (a 15 year old laptop) is probably one of the very few laptop where you can install FreeBSD and things works (ish). On any other laptop, especially the most recent one it's a completely NO-NO (ie forget about wireless, sound etc). It would be good if you could do the same video on a recent laptop.
I tried on a Thinkpad L13 gen 2 (from 2021). Everything worked, touch stylus, fingerprint, ... except sleep states I could not get to work. Dealbreaker on a laptop IMO
I tried many times to get FreeBSD running with a usable GUI but was unsuccessful, I was overjoyed too early to see your video, but there are a lot of works to do before I can get to that stage.
I'm on break and I'm bored and kinda interested in trying out FreeBSD. Can it handle the gaming hardware I have on my laptop? I am not gonna be gaming on it. BSD gives Linux vibes I like it.
FreeBSD has a straightforward installer that guides you through the process. You can be up and running with FreeBSD installed in less than 10mins to the initial CLI. After that it's entirely up to you as to what you install whether it's a complete desktop or a streamlined window manager or no GUI at all. Check out my original FreeBSD 13.1 review which shows a complete install.
It's definitely the worst version so far, with complete mess in graphic subsystem. Hardware that worked with v13 does not work with v14. Also there's a highest number of ports that can't be compiled I saw so far. I'm considering to drop use of FreeBSD entirely as this time building own system (except the very basic one) became near impossible.

Nice video again, always enjoy your content TC and it's nice to see you back.
thanks for this tour :) finally freebsd can be a good workstation os too
Start installing this and that and see in a few days..
FreeBSD is not much different from Linux. It works very well and stably even when we upgrade the system and programs.
Not only do I get BSD info but, you're classy enuff not to stick your face all over the screen!!! You sir, are awesome!
Cool video !

Would be happy to give it a go. Anyone want to send me a new model laptop to run tests on let me know :-)

@@lostinthesky1381Is that because of the shitty S1 modern a.k.a connected standby abomination courtesy of msft&intel?
Runs just fine on my T590.

Is it possible to install Gnome ? Thank you! Best regards!
Yeah you can install it manually but I recommend using the desktop-installer package
Why gnome use hyprland on it
Great video....new sub!
Welcome to the channel!
Could you tell me how you got the automount to work for the USB, etc?
Is FBSDs documentation better than Gentoos?

Oh, the installation is easy. Now...the true setup on the other hand...well...that's another story. A lengthy one.
Initial system is very fast although You need to respond to many question. It is unlikely You will know the answer especially when You're a beginner.

What do you think you're doing! They didn't make this system for desktop use. How dare you!
also when those people complain freebsd is not made for gaming, meanwhile, game consoles use freebsd :P
@@IzludeTingel :) Sssshhhh...
Untrue! It’s a general OS that can and will be used for anything!
