The first step in making ethanol is they take corn, sugar and yeast to make beer. Then distill it two to three times to get the concentrated alcohol. My problem is I always stop at the beer process🤣👍

I've been running E85 in my F2 Procharged 427SBC '69 Camaro for 5+ years now. Where I live in California the ethanol content always runs about 90%. My car sat last year for close to 6 months as I was changing the intake and adding a water to air intercooler which made me change a bunch of other things. The car fired up and ran with no issues after sitting for 6 months. Before that it would only sit for 6 weeks at the longest. I've found that most of the people talking about the horrors of E85 have never run it.

Also, E85 fuel is hygroscopic, it's water being absorbed in the fuel through the vent that is the actual concern. E85 alone isn't going to separate. Most modern vehicle have sealed fuel systems that vent back into the intake or through the charcoal canister. I think most of the anti E-blend propaganda came from the oil industry.

Love E85 in my Stang. I’ve been running a flex tune for the last 2 years unless I’m at the track. If the mix at the station near me is off or if I’m out in an area that only has 91 I just pump and let the tune adjust. I’ve never had an issue with the tune not adjusting correctly. Can’t wait to get an E85 tune on my Charger.

Years ago on my 70 camaro z28 I put wider tires on the rear only and this car. would literally 4 wheel drift under power. The thing that is a problem with wider rear tires is rotating the tires. I respect your opinion. Just for reference, I am 74 years old. My other road car is 89 IROC Z.

My question on this, is what if you have two tunes, a 93 Octane and a E85? I’m thinking there would be no issues. I’m currently going through the E85 conversion, switching to the fore innovations return fuel system. I already have the bigger injectors, and a ProCharger supercharger. I basically want to run E85 in the summer and 93 in the winter (or whenever), but basically want the flexibility to switch back and forth whenever I need to. One thing I didn’t know was that it separates after sitting for a week or so. My car also my sit for two weeks without being started, so that was good info there. Thanks!!!

When you mentioned an example about a car being tuned for E70 and the pump ends up being E60 and causing detonation. That alone was enough for me to know I made the right choice doing flex fuel tune rather than a straight ethanol blend tune. Having flex fuel adjustment tables is a must have for inconsistent E85 stations.

Get the ‘Gas buddy’ app Racerx or anyone else who doesn’t know. Its a map app & shows all the gas stations and what they have in stock and the price. You Don’t have to go looking. I think it even has a feature where it will notify you when your favorite gas station gets it re stocked. During the last hurricane here in Florida there wasn’t gas anywhere and it would notify me when it came in to my favorite gas stations. I’d have to run out at 1am to go fill our cars because that gas would be gone by daylight and all stations would be empty again.

You are forgetting about the distillers grain that is produced when an ethanol plant makes E85. Those distillers are feed to livestock. So not all the corn is lost. Also currently our nations corn bushel per acre average is near 180 bu/ acre. We get about 2 1/2 gallon pure ethanol out of a bushel of corn. Plus the distiller feed. Also ethanol plants get more products out of a kernel of corn. Most I have paid for E85 is $2.85/ gallon. Currently $1.93/ gallon. The 2.85 was when regular gas was $4.00 locally. Never had a problem sourcing E85 fuel.

If you're using E85, on a vehicle designed for 91, your PCM has been unlocked and you're on a custom tune. It's useful to have an ethanol content sensor and gauge in your vehicle, along with your RTD and a data device. You tuner can build several alternative calibrations, which you can load on-demand, as you fill your tank and read the ethanol content. It's a little work, but produces peace of mind.

Haven’t regretted doing flex fuel at all, if you get a high quality kit you’re good to go. From my understanding from the forums. E85 is like putting a low octane race grade fuel into your vehicle. It can make good power, but not good on mileage. Can't let it sit in the tank for a long period of time. It can dry out injectors seal and fuel pump seals. However it is less expensive to purchase. Vehicle had to be rated for it too. My bike is tuned for it and it does feel different with the power delivery.

I use the pro flex commander on my scat pack, been using it for about 15,000 miles. It works great. I can feel the difference. I’ve used on the road course and it has held up great. I would definitely recommend. I also have the latest jlt intake which also woke up the car. American racing shorties and a jet performance tb.

I got 2 places where I live, to buy E85. One is in another town, about 5-10 minutes from me, and the other place is at my job, at a nuclear power plant, and you have to have a badge to get on site to use the gas station. They need more gas stations selling E85, it's a little more expensive, but I prefer it over regular gas.

4:20 The ethanol in e85 is basically the same as the alcohol we drink and is made in the same way. The only difference is that ethanol for vehicles has toxic substances like methanol added to it so that people can't drink it, as it is not taxed like drinking alcohol.

I hope it’s relatable I guess it takes about 4-5 miles of normal driving to really set the right tune for it. My motor head swap guy had it planned to be putting 1050 hp to the crank 750 to the wheels I’m not sure how I’m keeping the power down the stock LT1 spins the 40s already

Why are you planning on so much drivetrain loss?
If you are at 1050 crank, you should see 840rwhp with 20% parasitic loss.
I have heard of Tuners describing very high drivetrain loss numbers so they can claim 1,000 crank horsepower.
