I could sit and watch videos on traditionals and leather all day. Especially from my OG! Love the video 👍
Man thanks Richtaaa! All my love to you brother can't wait for all them slips to get here! I got a triple date with PATINER! ❤😂
Just recently found your channel and I wanted to tell you how much I enjoy your enthusiasm and passion that you have for traditional knives. It’s nice to know that someone other than us old farts really likes them. Thank you for making the videos that you do and have a really great day.
I love hearing that! Thank you so much for the words of encouragement! ❤
Yay 😁. Nice surprise video on phone when I got up to take eye 👁️ drops. Great job and time flew by watching it.
Thanks for being such a great supporter Mike ❤
Well said. The traditional knife community is an absolutely awesome place to be! And I can only speak for myself, but I'm pretty sure that we're all glad that you're a part of it. Hope you have a great weekend.
You’re a love David! Have a great day!❤
"They're just worth the money!" I think that sums it up pretty well!
Thanks!
You certainly captured the assense of traditional knife and related products like slips.
I like all edged things, but traditional ones give me the most joy.
Friction folders also have their place.
Carry on with the great videos.
Thank you so much for the kind words!
Thank you for following through very quickly on the comparison video! Great job giving us your experiences!
Thanks for watching!
Really cool video! You hit the nail on the head with the steel comparison. And you also summed up the whole knife community really well too! I’m not a modern knife hater but I am a Traditional knife lover and enthusiast!!
You and I both brothaman!
Thanks for the update, very interesting!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
She’s got the traditional bug!!! Love it!
It is very contagious 😂
Keep doin' you, E! So many knife channels on RUclips are the same flavor. Nice to see different things.
Thanks so much Rob!
I have a Richter slip ordered!!! His “R” leather stamp broke, and I hope it doesn’t delay my order. For me it’s not a make or break deal. I’ll definitely let all know where and who made it! Lately I’ve been venturing into antique stores and finding killer deals on killer traditional knives! Today I found a vintage wood handle Boker!! Cheers Sista!! 🍺🇺🇸🔪🤘🏼🖤
That sounds so awesome! I am sure he will figure something out quick!
Bro no worries…I gotcha. 👍
I paused the video and went to SMKW and bought an orange jigged bone 1095 Sod Buster Jr. I think you're using a form of mind control over my weak mind😂
Yessss do ittttt🎉❤
Ah, falling to the traditional -curse- spell, I see. Well done! I bought my first Case Mini Copperlock yesterday. And I already know it won't be the last. Cheers!
I have one on the way! Cheers!
Great video. Traditional knives always get the job done. Nothing wrong with the modern edc stuff, but traditional knives give you a connection with the past, plus they're just plain cool. Most of my case knives are CV, works for me.
Yes exactly!
Them edges are looking legit Erica 👍 . Good job 👏. Sharpening to max potential is a worthwhile skill to learn imo . Use yor sheeeeit 😊
Use it!!!❤🎉
Those slips are Awsomely looking!
They are so well made!
You are right about non production knives. I am convinced. Keep it up
Thanks Doug!
My Bullbuster has been cutting for months aswell I cant remember who said it but using your blade maintains it seems like the heat treat n grind are spot on . Ive been a Traditional guy my whole life but recently coming back to them they always seem to last longer. I dont see many Ti Ball bearing knives being handed down lasting 100 yrs. oh yess that Orange is Persimmon.
Nice to see ya Don!
Great looking knives! I've always had great service out of my Case knives!
Cheers to that!!!
Not bored at all, I love these videos!
Glad you are enjoying them!
You got it! Great bone and steel…excellent EDC knife😊
Thanks for being an awesome influence my friend!
I think you are right about traditional knives. I don’t know if they with be as prominent as the modern stuff but I do think brands like Case will have a renaissance where more people will look into them. They really do need to step up their QC in order to be embraced by new customers.
Very good point!!!
Astute takes on traditional knives, steels and the edged community. I completely agree those knives have a character (soul?) that moderns lack. They are time tested tools that work. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching. I appreciate you!
“Are we getting bored yet?” I mean I’m not, there’s a much greater variety of aesthetics among traditionals,, so much more character and colour without be gaudy and they just keep looking and better as they age. Modern knives are functional, tough and from a practical stand point probably better all round but traditionals are a lot more fun and are more likely to create a sentimental attachment. We just need more companies creating GEC quality knives and when they are on their game, Case quality knives and pushing them out in the same sort of quantities as Case or Rough Rider. And then there are those gorgeous leather slips....😊
I do agree!
I'm glad you've found your happy place with traditional folders and leatherwork. They do have a nice aesthetic. It would never work for me though, largely because they don't lock.
Also, I really value the quality of the steel in the blade. So it's the truly modern steels for me, not 1095 and the like. And I don't get Chinese-made EVER.
You crack me up with your non-locking obsession 😂 Thanks for watching and commenting as always Frank! ❤
@@ericasedc Locks add an important attribute. Hence the history and popularity of the classic Buck 110, even with a less than modern steel. It performs more like a fixed blade.
@@franka9760 🤣🤣you do you my friend🤣💕
Hey Erica was wondering if you could give us a update on how the AWT scales on the LW para 3 are holding up. Ended up order a set myself and can’t wait.
All the content I have on those - is on the channel. Thanks so much!
With all the new stuff out today it is easy to become a steel snob. I do love modern steels but prefer CV, 1095, O1, A2, and Cruwear for working knives. They hold an edge for a reasonable amount of time and are easy to sharpen. I would much rather spend a minute or 2 with ceramic rods or a strop then 20 plus minutes that a "new" steel may take after being used hard.
Awesome input here❤
cruwear is a modern super steel honestly. it’s tough, and holds an edge around the same as s30v. spyderco and benchmade use it a lot.
Cruwear is a modern supersteel ,but is very easy to sharpen. By that I mean that it sharpens quickly and the time spent sharpening is out of proportion to it's edge holding. It is truly a remarkable steel!@@acid6urns
Sadly, the retailer I am in contact with here across the pond says Chrome Vanadium nowadays are either flat out suspended or "special order" only, when asking for Case Cutlery. Saddens me. A good patina on a classic yellow handle Case is so iconic :)
Oh dang!
case absolutely still sells CV, i have seen it on multiple retailers sites. it may be different in the UK though.
@@acid6urns Glad to hear that. Must find a better drug dealer then ;)
I love the look of slip joints with smooth bone with nickel silver bolsters… the thing is, anytime I carry one, I’m thinking “this could be a SAK, which is so much more useful.”
Thanks for watching and commenting my brother!!!! Hope all is well with you🥰
Thanks for the shout out…carry that…SODDY
“Always got a Soddy on me!”❤
Erica, have you ever tried an Opinel from France? I've been using them since 1982, and they cut great and are more rugged than you would think from the light weight. And they can be modded like crazy.
I have the No.'s 6, 7 and 8. Sleek little slicers.
I was on DLT lastnight n there was 6 CV knives in stock so yaaa they are out there guys !!
Yahoo!
Really enjoy the videos I hope u keep it up thanks for the information
Thanks for watching!
Just picked up the case mahogany peach seed jigged bone carbon steel Sod Buster Jr from SMKWs for 45.99. Yay me!! I just recently discovered your channel and I love it! I do like, and have many modern knives, Spedercos, Benchmades and others. But like you my true passion is old school traditional. I have subscribed and am binging on your channel. Love, love, love
I do my own leatherwork as well. Sheaths, slips, wallets as well. Your friend Rick does a good job! Subbed his channel as well.
I liked the sharpening video you did for this knife. You did an excellent job on the job edge! It was funny when you referred to the factory Case edge as burnt & crusty lol. I wish Case would take the time to refine their edges more & pay more attention to quantity control. I’m assuming they are getting better it, but I don’t know. Yesterday I bought a full size trapper in amber bone & True Sharp steel. I had to put an edge on it to make it usable for edc, but it’s good to go now!
Yay!
Case edges still suck, even on their expensive models. I bought one of the Kinzua flippers, a $150 knife with an S35VN blade, a few months ago. I came with the standard dull Case edge with a huge burr. A couple weeks ago, my dad bought two Case Trappers and gave me one. This knife was cheaper, I think he paid $50 each for them, and had Case's 420HC steel. Like the Kinzua, both blades on the trapper were dull with big burrs. It is sad that Case cares so little, because when sharpened properly, Case knives are great. The blades hold a razor sharp edge. It just sucks that I have to finish the manufacturing process for them. I've never gotten a Spyderco, a Benchmade, or even a cheap Victorinox knife with a bad edge like that.
I have a lot of modern folders and traditional folders. Sure I am interested in high quality steels but there is nothing like a good toothy carbon steel. I love traditional knives. All my Cases are in CV. I have a Medium Stockman, a Muscrat and a mini Copperhead.
There are less Case models in CV but you can get them easily.
By the way I have a Barlow in 01 tool steel. It's an absolutely great steel.
Love hearing that!
Have you ever tried Buck Knives? The 112 Slim or light models IMO are on par with Case knives.
Yep! I had a custom 112.
Love the traditionals and leather slips! Still hoping to grab a Soddy Jr at some point
There are tons of options out there!!!!
@@ericasedc Im so indecisive haha
I'm not big on slipjoint knives myself but my dad was grieving his "case dubble ecks" so I ordered him the jigged buffalo horn s35vn mini trapper (65093) and there are positive results to report. Not going to lie, I kind of want to get one too. Out of the box both clip and wharncliffe blades were surprisingly sharp, I touched it a little rougher than I should have but that's okay. They were perfectly centered. Detent and half stops were all strong. Oil was visible at the base of the blades. There were no egregious gaps on the back. Honestly it was just a handsome specimen of a knife but my dad could just be lucky. He dumped his pockets when he saw it. I have yet to ask him his opinion of the massively upgraded steel, may update later if you care to know.
Loving all your traditional blade content! Still trying to find myself some blue Case blades in carbon steels for the list
You should try one of the rough rider carbon line knives there in t10 carbon steel and they get sharp and hold the edge well. For the money the are hard to beat and especially the g10 versions and bone stag versions. The yellow handle ones are really cheap and I have several and have not been disappointed and I have several case cv and the new cs the new old timer in 1095 along with about 60 others in carbon steel and the rough riders are good. Also old timer is making the heritage line in d2 and there cheap too and so far I like those a lot too
You sold me on the Smoky Valley Sodbuster Jr. in 1095 Carbon from Smoky Mt. Knife Works. It'll join my Trapperlock, Mini Copperlock, Canoe and Pocket Hunter, all of which I love. Case is a piece of American history and, while their knives aren't perfect, they are beautiful and fairly priced (did you hear that Benchmade?)
Try some Boker slip joints from Germany they are beautiful
I did and it was trash. I will have to try again!
@@ericasedc I bought a barlow curly birch covers its one of my favorites
You should get and test either a full sized copperlock or a Tribal I've got a carbon steel one with a pocket clip that I think a lot of people could get on board with because most people I know have to have a clip and a lock.I also have a Russlock that goes in a leather sleeve with a clip that goes in my shirt pocket that works good also.Once you get the hang of the Russlock it's great I love it's blade geimetry
Been wanting a carbon steel traditional for a while and the hen and rooster I had wasn't my favourite so I sold it.
I found a grey medium stockman with CV steel and I think I'm buying it.
Not much choice in the EU when it comes to carbon steel traditionals 😅
Ah yes I have heard that !
Coldsteel is making slipjoints also i saw
And I heard they’re decent!
I know you like usa made knives but you should try the qsp hedgehog it's a great slip joint for the price
Never! Cheers!!!
Recently tried a friend’s solingen made boker (I think he said it’s a smkw special) in O1 that’s really fantastic. It looks like someone really gave a damn about the assembly and QC. It’s not on the level of like a GEC, but it’s quite nice. It seems to be done reasonably hard and sharpens nicely. The one I handled had an interesting patina but I’m not sure if that’s from use or if it was intentionally applied.
the O1 bokers come with a black acid washed blade from factory
I've got a carbon scout and a two blade locking Hunter in 440c both from Soligen both in stag and they are on par with GEC which I own a few of but like Erica said you can't get them.Knives ships free sends me alerts when they come in and they are always sold out when I click on the link even when I do instantaneously
@@carlbakerjr1088 when I meant not on the same level, I was getting down to cosmetic nitpicking. The function of the knife and feel of the back spring/slipjoint was as nice as anything I’ve felt from GEC.
Steel snobbery is the biggest beef people have with case tru-sharp. Surprising amount of people out there who thinks there is no place for old school or budget stainless steels. Kinda sad actually since they can be used in applications that mayby a higherend stainless may not be necessary. I understand case CV isn't much different then Ka-Bars crovan 1095 steel.
The problem is that Case knives really aren't cheap. Using 420HC, one of the worst knife steels out there, is unconscionable. At least use something like 440C; its cheap but a far better steel. As much as some Case knives cost, they out to come with something like S30V at minimum.
@christophercrawford777 I can upgrading to 440c but you don't want to see what happens to the price of their stainless knives if they switched all of then to a S30V or S35VN. I don't mind the price of 50 to 70 for 420HC mostly because I believe I'm paying for the handle material and the finish... fit can be iffy sometimes but definitely the bone with your choice of jigging and stag/antler I expect to cost a bit of money. If they could change to 440c though I think the price could stay similar... you also got the average blue collar that don't care about knives like we do and just buy because of the name, going to a s30 series steel may be to much. We may not see S30 as hard to sharpen but I had an older friend that was use to his 440 and 420 knives and hated how difficult it was to sharpen a Kershaw with S30V I gave him and I am sure the price would immediately double if case switched to the steel.... look at the limited edition Tony bose knives that case makes...
@@desertratedc9596 I understand what you're saying. I'd be delighted if they switched to 440C, but it would be cool if they offered something high tech like S45VN (A steel I love on my Spyderco PM3) as an option. I'd pay the extra for that.
@christophercrawford777 ah then we at least agree there and may be in luck! They keep playing with S35VN and especially AEB-L and have talked about potentially releasing a line using them that would be more available then the Tony bose top line. Last I had heard they were trying to figure out how to keep them in the 150 range.
@@desertratedc9596boker puts out 440c and d2 in their tree brand knives for under $40, but i think AEBL or 12c27/14c28n would be awesome on traditionals as it keeps the feeling of getting stupid sharp super easily and being really tough.
Case 6347 got me converted into a SS man 🤭 no but seriously its a good ( at least enough) steel... but belive or not today i got a Korean War trapper put to the stones and it started to poop black like i have never seen before so soft and i couldn't get an good enough edge on it and it ain't from lack of skill.... 😤 now im actually mad..... im carrying victorinox tomorrow just sharpened my compact whit 600 grit dmt and stropped it absolute fusion of an scalpel and a hacksaw.... real killer edge
dont take this the wrong way but you have an uncanny resemblance to Link from good mythical morning, you could be his sister or daughter. atleast in this video lol
Hey what is ur favorite case knife? I love the smaller knives and want to get another one :)
I have a crimson peach mini trapper and love it
I think the old timer is from bear and son
Have heard that a lot!!!
Hey I have a question about your old timer, does it come with a slip? If not, what do you use ? Thanks in advance!!
It does not. Watch my leather slip collection video on my gear playlist for tons of options!
