I used to be a fan of Tamiya Kits, but I have been selling mine off and now have a respect for Kyosho who I was indifferent to before. I got rid of my Toms84c and bought the Fantom, I am really impressed with Kyosho and think Tamiya are just trying to flog off kits that require more $$$ to finish off (eg Bearings).
I can't believe they put a silver can in this kit. I just built the Audio V8 Touring, which is more than half the price, and it came with a torque tuned motor.
I would consider VQS if bearings and hi caps shocks are including. (Can buy, but I think the Hi caps are sold out.) The total price will be another $50 or $60. I think if I do go for it, it will be sold out. 😳 Thanks for sharing your build.👍🏻
I changed my mind. Got the VQS at 2/3 price of UK is paying and no sales/VAT tax. I think Tamiya fans will eventually buy it and doesn't matter is 95% plastic because it won't stand a chance against any modern day buggy. Buyer will either keep it as shelve queen or run them with kid gloves.
I watched the previous video and I agree on most of your thoughts. I only disagree with the shell being pre-painted. It should have been clear. I know your not too bothered, but like you said, it takes the choice out of your hand's. Thats was a great video btw!! OK, let's watch the build......
for how much it costs to buy the kit Tamiya should of supplied the bearings, The fact they haven't even addressed those structural failures and not giving you carbon fibre parts i now can see why most people are put off from buying it including myself.
i think it is all about nostalgia and memories, but i have a question, compared with the current rc like hobao and kyosho is tamiya a good opponent, i mean not this concrete ccar but generally tamiya re releases are any good, cause i want a rc car,i only have a nitro one...what you think....in addition i think in the 80s 90s championiships rc tamiya have not participants with her models...
So far it looks like a pretty nice kit to me Gav , once you get the Hi Caps it will definitely make it pop. Haven’t built mine yet but your video is definitely giving me the urge to do it .
Hi Gavin, can you check the data stamps on the sprues, I'm wondering if any of the re-re parts are molded in black polycarbonate (PC stamp) rather than the ABS of the original......newer Tamiya buggy kits like the TT-02B, DT-03 etc. have parts molded in this and it is tougher than the old ABS.
For the G Tree the stamps say >PC< made July 2020 58076 0988054-00 On the other side it has 1988 Tamiya. I guess the tree design hasn't changed at all but it's now in PC.
Polycarbonate and ABS are the most common types of plastic used in suitcases on the market. Polycarbonate is more flexible than ABS and has a higher impact resistance. As a result, it makes for a stronger suitcase. ABS suitcases are cheaper than Polycarbonate ones, but they are often heavier and do not last as long.
I don’t get what’s so special about this kit. It’s certainly no Avante or Egress! I’ve been on the fence about getting one, for my 75 kit collection…. But I just don’t think it’s worth the space, or cost..?
The kit looks neat, but the price seems high for a plastic chassis. I’d sooner spend more for a 2011 Avante, yet I avoid both as I question the value. They’re beautiful chassis, yet a casual driver will likely be satisfied with a BIGWIG or DF03 especially at a fraction of the cost. Why can’t they include a full set of ball bearings? They did the same with the Hotshot and it certainly isn’t cheap.
How in the world is that kit over $200 USD and still has bushings in the gearbox? Maybe I can see if it was bushings in the steering at $200 USD but this thing is $330+?!?
Tamiya are pulling a fast one, it is supposed to be a budget version of the Avante so they bumped up the Avante price rather than sell this for where it should be with these specs. Upgraded parts are just those lifted out of previous kits, they have done nothing to justify the high price of the VQS.
Shame about the failure points engineered intae the design, and nae complete bearing kit. The gold upright texture implies Aluminum 3 D printing. I wouldnae drive it anywhere than an open paddock wi nae obstacles.
Tamiya is not as generous as it used to be. I miss the ball differentials that were standard with the TA05 and TB03; now those are options and the retail price for a TA/TB car’s set approaches the price of a TT kit. Their sales have likely declined over the past decade, judging from their smaller product lineup. They probably can’t afford to be as generous as before.
Great video. Around the 11 minute mark you mention the E6 jigs. Pretty sure they are front and rear jigs vs the left and right you describe.
I like that ratchet screwdriver!!!!
I can recommend them.
Thanks Gav.
On the positive side, I like the driveline. Gear boxes look sturdy and well designed and the driveshafts being upgraded is a bonus! 👍🤓🇦🇺
Well it's the driveline we see in the Avante and Egress so it's not an unknown design so parts are easy to find.
Brilliant, I was going to run mine, but no spears available yet! So I think self queen. Boxing day build.
kyosho kits offer SO MUCH MORE for the same price, but theres something iconic about tamiya kits that i love...

Some gringy design features hey, brilliant build vid once again. Love watching your build vids.
Got one and the shocks, keep it in box for now. Need to restore my orginal Vanquish.
excellent build info. thanks!
I can't believe they put a silver can in this kit. I just built the Audio V8 Touring, which is more than half the price, and it came with a torque tuned motor.
The car looks cool👍
Awesome build vid 👏👍 love your content!
Thanks a ton!
Such an informative video, good angles, commentary and lighting. Great stuff, Gavin.
Glad you enjoyed it!

Super excited to watch this video. Really love the build all the way Gav
Glad you enjoyed it
Your build Video's are Epic, you do such a great job.
Thank you very much!

Great Video Gav, unfortunately out of reach for me as I've got loads on order and to build.
Great build video....... :)
Unfortunately I won't be buying one as I fail to see it as a good value runner with the weak spots not addressed.
Loving the channel…I’ve seen some builders putting grease into their gearboxes…is there a rule of thumb for this? Cheers 👍😎
It depends on the car and what the gears are made from as you need to match the material with its lubricant.

For the money I’d expect a prepainted body and a clear one as well. Tamils has done this on other models at a much lower price point.
for how much it costs to buy the kit Tamiya should of supplied the bearings, The fact they haven't even addressed those structural failures and not giving you carbon fibre parts i now can see why most people are put off from buying it including myself.
I agree, they should have fixed the flaws at least!
i think it is all about nostalgia and memories, but i have a question, compared with the current rc like hobao and kyosho is tamiya a good opponent, i mean not this concrete ccar but generally tamiya re releases are any good, cause i want a rc car,i only have a nitro one...what you think....in addition i think in the 80s 90s championiships rc tamiya have not participants with her models...
Agreed

Be good to see an SRB in your collection, restoration or re release, I could help with parts if you went the restore route ;-)
I have one on order.
I enjoyed this is there a part 2? Or run video 🤔

Hello Gavin, are these cars a limited edition? Tamiya does not mention if they might be. Thoughts?
If my memory serves me correct, the original vanquish didn't come with a sports tuned motor, it had a standard silver can in the box.
Yep you are correct, the Avante 2001 had the sports tuned motor. It didn't go down well back then, like the plastic black shocks.
Thanks for this video, but where is the bearings list in the description? Thanks again..
Haven’t added it yet but the bearing info is listed in the video
@@RCKickschannel 👍😜thanks
I notice you don't trim off the extra plastic from the sprue trees on some of the parts
My snips do a good enough job for me. Some people sand anything left over. I only do this on the shock bodies really.
The E6 jigs are front and rear not left and right as stated in this video.
Sorry, my mistake.
I don’t get what’s so special about this kit. It’s certainly no Avante or Egress! I’ve been on the fence about getting one, for my 75 kit collection…. But I just don’t think it’s worth the space, or cost..?
The cost is a challenge that’s for sure as it’s supposed to be the budged Avante. It’s a lovely looking car and I really like it personally.
The only concern I have with this model is the unavailability of spare parts . Otherwise I would pull the trigger by now
How in the world is that kit over $200 USD and still has bushings in the gearbox? Maybe I can see if it was bushings in the steering at $200 USD but this thing is $330+?!?
Lack of a full bearing kit in a kit at that price point is inexcusable. Too much black plastic as well in key areas that should have been addressed.
The music is a bit to loud in this episode for my taste.
Thanks for letting me know. 👍🏻
Loud and terrible

No bearings at that price point? Criminal. I love tamiya, but come on. Ridiculous.
Yes you get 90% on the bearings.
Tamiya is not as generous as it used to be. I miss the ball differentials that were standard with the TA05 and TB03; now those are options and the retail price for a TA/TB car’s set approaches the price of a TT kit.

Such a RIP off and let down for this model. It's still made of cheap materials and and ancient design. So disappointed.
Seems crazy to spend so much money on a very poorly design plastic kit. Tamiya should have re-designed it before releasing this.
