Today we can add cameras that have decent anti-shake built in too to make videos that are virtually perfect like a drone.
Yeah these stabilization on modern cameras is really good though that doesn't usually allow you to do FPV. This is the first time I've really seen well stabilized FPV.

1:39 I don't wanna be that guy but this definitely has been done multiple times to a much more extreme degree, theres some that have incorporated the racing sims with actuators to run their crawlers along with the fpv setup it's actually scary what you can all do 😅😅 Either eay i love seeing this stuff hopefully its a robust system, Thanks for making the video 🤘🤘
There have been plenty of people that have done FPV and even head tracking FPV but until now all the solutions have been either homemade or pretty clunky and none of them as far as I know have camera stabilization. One of the biggest problems with surface FPV is how bouncy the images because the car is bouncing all over the place. This system allows you to buy the hardware then just stick it in a car and go. I think that's the first time That type of solution has been available that actually works.
Dude! Really freaking well done! 😃 I love FPV! With quads AND rc cars/trucks! I still need to get a good basher to try it, but with crawlers I usually install the camera outside. (Those really small analog cameras.) Now I'm going to make a small fpv pod for a VTX and a Caddx Turtle v2. It's still analog, but it records in 1080p. You know? I'm going to build it with aluminum composite and metal standoffs, to protect it very well... But, again, I'm going to fix it to the exterior of the rc car, probably with dual lock... So I can change it from car to car. You know? Either way, I just subscribed! Stay safe there there your family! 🖖😊
If you like FPV I would definitely consider giving this system a try. A hard mounted analog camera is fun but gimballed HD is a totally different animal.
Awesome video. I own a few fpv drones that i really enjoyed building and i have the Walksnail Avatar sytems on them and i installed one of the Walksnail Avatar systems on one of the Arrma Typhon bodies that i have and i use the Walksnail Avatar version 1 goggles and its the coolest thing. I did have to install a fan on the vtx because it was over heating very quickly.
Active Camera Stability is a game changer, I tried RC FPV too and never really got into it because the vibrations are awful. It quickly reminds you that drone footage looks great because its on a cushion of air, Cars are not
I completely agree. I honestly wasn't even thinking about that when I first installed it but it really is the game-changing feature of this system. The head tracking's great but the stability is what makes this work where all other surface FPV has just been a novelty in the past.
Depends on the jump. I found that off of those gravel piles it was extremely easy and intuitive though with the supernut off of that ramp it was pretty difficult because the nut wasn't leaving the ramp at good angles so it was hard to know what was going on.
Yeah I agree though at least so far the tolerance is seem to be tight enough around the gimbal housing that dirt isn't getting in. I suspect with really fine dust it would be problematic and I'm sure over time it's going to get crunchy but it's holding up a lot better than I thought it would.
I don't have an HD vtx or goggles but I have used an analog set on a Tpyhon Grom and it was amazing. Mounted the camera where the wing is screwed on and it was almost like a racing game. Fairly cheap to get into, 100 dollar goggles and the all in one camera/vtx/antenna combo for around 30. Just need a battery for it or hook right up to the grom battery, not too hard to do. The hard-mounting definitely has its downsides however, but putting a gimbal on top of a basher scares me haha. I will definitely have a setup for my crawler though, that seems like too much fun.
He list out the parts at the end of the video. There are a couple of different VTXs that work with the system. You can download the manual for the gimbal and they are listed in there.
@jkeavyolson Yeah you'll have to figure out a mount for it and cut some holes in the body as well as make sure it's protected from getting crushed if the truck ends up upside down but you could do it. You might be better off using something like a Mojave 4S though as The body already has an internal cage and a place to put the camera.
@jkeavyolson Well you could definitely make it work in pretty much any car. Really it's just a matter of mounting the gimbal in the right place, having holes big enough to look out of and protecting the gimbal from getting smashed.
The GM3 gimbal is compatible with a few different models of VTX and camera. You can download the GM3 gimbal manual from the caddx website and they are listed in there. The only goggles that work with the gimbal are the ones shown in the video which are the Avatar goggles l.
I put one of these (aliexpress version) in a 6s powered Losi RZR ... its good but dust becomes a problem real quick. I would say for long term you need to have a clear windows/windscreen
Yeah I kind of suspect it'll be a problem here too though It was pretty dirty and dusty where I was bashing and they still feel smooth as silk. I am sure they'll get crunchy over time though.
You just need to add: 1) goggle head-up display for speed and voltage. 2) a light up instrument panel like they are now doing for FPV aircraft. Glad walk snail has made this doable and affordable. For crawling competitions and 1/10 scale racing, this would be hyper-realistic.
Very kool and thank you for bringing this to light for us. Can you list the names of the items ? So that I can look them up and make my purchase. Thanks again !
I list them at the end of the video but it's the GM3 gimbal with one of the compatible VTX camera setups that are listed in the manual for the gimbal that you can get on the caddx website and then walksnail goggles l
You know I kind of thought that too and coming off the ramp was problematic because The supernut just really doesn't like that ramp but all the other jumps were very intuitive.
Hello DoRc, awsome built! As soon as my bank account is more appropriately equipped, I will try this myself. Is the gimbal able to compensate for up and down movement? I consider this the most important axis.
So that red and black wire coming out the camera is that able to connect straight to the battery for power? Or is there a receiver cable that can be soldered onto it ?
The The camera itself is powered off of the VTX. Both the VTX and gimbal are able to run on anywhere from 2S to 6S as far as I know. You might want to verify that in the manual though. A good BEC should be able to provide that kind of power but I can't guarantee it
It handled the abuse a lot better than I expected. Would be cool to have a clear cover/body specifically meant for housing the gimbal. Car wouldn't look cool, but it would be easier to see everywhere around you
Yeah that would be neat. I bet there's something out there that would be appropriate. I am also very surprised at how well it took the abuse. I figured it would either grind to a halt the first time it got a face full of sand or fail the first time it ate a 10 ft crash but it didn't do either one of those things. Can't guarantee you it will last forever but I am impressed
Ive got a local rc road track nearby and ive been thinking about trying this as it has little ripple strip's and everything im now going to have to try it now 😂
Absolutely project! Pls try to install this in a small scale rc. This would be my absolute dream. So jealous right now, Im getting almost green😂 Can you tell me about transmitter power and frequency?
Because of the gimbal size we probably wouldn't be able to put it in anything smaller than maybe a 1/10 scale. The VTX I was using has a maximum output of one watt and it operates on the 5.8 GHz spectrum.
Hey, Could you explain a bit more about the battery situation? I’m a beginner still and kinda confused about how to power the whole set up. Are you using a single battery to power the car, the camera set up, as well as the gimbal? Are you using any splitters or UBEC for power regulation? Trying to figure out the shopping list 😅 Thanks!
Fortunately because these were originally designed for drones the camera VTX and gimbal can run on anywhere from 7 to 26 volts so 2 to 6s. How you power them completely up to you. The easiest thing to do would just be to get a balance plug connector that's the same as whatever battery you're going to be using for your vehicle and plug it into that. Accessing the outermost two wires on the balance connector will give you full battery voltage and the balance leads are plenty big enough to power the VTX and gimbal. I used a separate battery a couple of times just for convenience because I had the 2S balance connector but wasn't running a US battery. You can also do this but it's totally not necessary.
@ ah I think I got it. I’m gonna try to run my 2s that I’m using for my car directly to the kit through the balance cable. I have an extension connector so I’m guessing that’s good enough to get it started. I was under the impression the gimbal needed 5v and I was gonna have to get a power regulator hahahaha. Thanks a lot!

1:39 I don't wanna be that guy but this definitely has been done multiple times to a much more extreme degree,
theres some that have incorporated the racing sims with actuators to run their crawlers along with the fpv setup it's actually scary what you can all do 😅😅
Either eay i love seeing this stuff hopefully its a robust system,
Thanks for making the video 🤘🤘
There have been plenty of people that have done FPV and even head tracking FPV but until now all the solutions have been either homemade or pretty clunky and none of them as far as I know have camera stabilization. One of the biggest problems with surface FPV is how bouncy the images because the car is bouncing all over the place.
This system allows you to buy the hardware then just stick it in a car and go. I think that's the first time That type of solution has been available that actually works.
Love this!!! Amazing hope to try it out myself ❤️ seems like an absolute blast
I would definitely recommend it. It's a totally different experience.
Nice. I love that POV fofootage 👍🏾🔥
Yeah it's definitely a different experience!
Dude! Really freaking well done! 😃
I love FPV! With quads AND rc cars/trucks!
I still need to get a good basher to try it, but with crawlers I usually install the camera outside. (Those really small analog cameras.)
Now I'm going to make a small fpv pod for a VTX and a Caddx Turtle v2.
@DoRC I absolutely agree! But it's still a bit expensive to me... 😂
But some day, for sure!
That is so sweet! Good job 💪💪
Thanks Glad you enjoyed :-)
This is fantastic!!!
It's definitely a lot of fun thanks for watching :-)
Great idea.
Glad you enjoyed!
That looks like too much fun! Does that camera record the audio too.
Unfortunately no.
Definitely cool brother
Yeah it's a totally new aspect of the hobby.
This is another level
Yeah it's pretty cool!
Awesome video! I love the edits! Great work!
Thanks!
Great review and testing!
I really do need to get into 3D printing!
Especially these days with Bambu lab printers it's pretty easy to get into and even if you aren't designing your own stuff it's amazing technology
Realy cool video man👌
Thanks :-)
That's pretty wild!
Yeah it's definitely something different to experience!
Yeah they really depend on air flow from the propellers for cooling.
The head tracking's great but the stability is what makes this work where all other surface FPV has just been a novelty in the past.
very cool
It definitely is!
Super cool. Very nice 😊🤟
Glad you enjoyed and thanks for watching :-)
That's awesome is it easy to drive with that view and jump and land the car seems it would be tricky to jump not seeing the wheels to land?
Depends on the jump. I found that off of those gravel piles it was extremely easy and intuitive though with the supernut off of that ramp it was pretty difficult because the nut wasn't leaving the ramp at good angles so it was hard to know what was going on.
awesome idea i think the biggest weak spot would be in open cockpit like this is sand and dirt getting into the gimbal
Yeah I agree though at least so far the tolerance is seem to be tight enough around the gimbal housing that dirt isn't getting in. I suspect with really fine dust it would be problematic and I'm sure over time it's going to get crunchy but it's holding up a lot better than I thought it would.
Fantastic!
It's definitely a new way to do it!
Yeah I would not want to put one of these on top of an RC car. The gimbal seems pretty tough but I don't think it's that tough :-)
That guy that shop with his rc need to know this😂❤
Yeah I think it would be a nice addition :-)
Amazing. Can we get a part list. Been wanting to get into pov and this looks insane!
He list out the parts at the end of the video. There are a couple of different VTXs that work with the system. You can download the manual for the gimbal and they are listed in there.
Add this to things to add to my next build.
Let me know if you have any questions :-)
That is amazing! This would make a fun project to add to any rc car.
Yeah it is really awesome. I recommend everybody try it at least once
Can you imagine a full grid of stadium trucks or short course racers with POV cams. Sounds so cool.
They definitely need an FPV racing series!
Oh my gosh, I wanted to do something like this for a while but now I think I’m gonna go and pick up one love your videos
Thanks Glad you enjoy and yes it is definitely a cool thing!
@@DoRC do you think I’d be able to do it on something like a Creighton 4S?
@jkeavyolson Yeah you'll have to figure out a mount for it and cut some holes in the body as well as make sure it's protected from getting crushed if the truck ends up upside down but you could do it. You might be better off using something like a Mojave 4S though as The body already has an internal cage and a place to put the camera.
@@DoRC one problem I don’t have any cars like that
@jkeavyolson Well you could definitely make it work in pretty much any car. Really it's just a matter of mounting the gimbal in the right place, having holes big enough to look out of and protecting the gimbal from getting smashed.
I’ve been wanting to do this for awhile. I like this gimbal better than other set ups I’ve seen. What model camera and goggles are you using? Thanks!
The GM3 gimbal is compatible with a few different models of VTX and camera. You can download the GM3 gimbal manual from the caddx website and they are listed in there. The only goggles that work with the gimbal are the ones shown in the video which are the Avatar goggles l.
@@DoRC tanks for the input!
@@CSmothersForge You're welcome thanks for watching :-)
It would be awesome to add some more realism!
HUD can be added using a drone or fixed wing flight controller. That will give you all the telemetry you could even need.
Awesome review, great work! 👍
Thanks!
Ive been wanting to do this to my 1/5th scale FG!!!! Im sooooo gonna do this now!!! 🤪🤪🤪
This would be awesome in a 1/5 scale!
Great video mate, only problem I can see is it's gonna be hard judging angle while you're in the air for a landing.
You know I kind of thought that too and coming off the ramp was problematic because The supernut just really doesn't like that ramp but all the other jumps were very intuitive.
@@DoRC fair enough
Do you ever sleep?? Your Johnny on the Spot with the comments man, I love it!!
@kylarstern7627 Yeah I do but I mostly have this channel to interact with you guys so I like to respond as soon as possible :-)
@@DoRC I certainly appreciate it my friend 🙂
Hi Love this set up. I'm really curious what the latency is like for the fpv? Was it noticable at all?
Hello DoRc, awsome built!
As soon as my bank account is more appropriately equipped, I will try this myself.
Is the gimbal able to compensate for up and down movement?
I consider this the most important axis.
It has tilt yaw and bank so it compensates on all three of those axes but isn't able to move up and down specifically.
Next boat fpv 😊
Not too many options for places to run boats around to your unfortunately would be sweet though.
I’m sold! I’ve done a FPV drone flying and been wanting to try this
If you like FPV flying you'll like this too :-)
OMG just had best idea. LOSI LMT... wanna drive a monster jam truck?! lol windows probably arent big enough though
That would be awesome! I think the windshield would be big enough You would just need to have the camera fairly close to the front.
A good BEC should be able to provide that kind of power but I can't guarantee it
@ does the vtx have open wires at the end for your own connection?
Thats pretty wild!
It's definitely a lot of fun!
Awesome ❤🎉😊
Definitely a pretty sweet setup!
I have many of ideas for this that's awsome man 😃💯🤟👍
It definitely opens up some possibilities!
Ive got a local rc road track nearby and ive been thinking about trying this as it has little ripple strip's and everything im now going to have to try it now 😂
Sounds like fun!
Absolutely project!
Pls try to install this in a small scale rc. This would be my absolute dream.
So jealous right now, Im getting almost green😂
Can you tell me about transmitter power and frequency?
Because of the gimbal size we probably wouldn't be able to put it in anything smaller than maybe a 1/10 scale. The VTX I was using has a maximum output of one watt and it operates on the 5.8 GHz spectrum.
Hey, Could you explain a bit more about the battery situation? I’m a beginner still and kinda confused about how to power the whole set up. Are you using a single battery to power the car, the camera set up, as well as the gimbal? Are you using any splitters or UBEC for power regulation? Trying to figure out the shopping list 😅
Thanks!
That is awesome, love it 😀
It's definitely sweet!
Welcome to my world 👍✌️
Do you have this set up?
@@DoRC I build my own fpv gimbal frames using the storm32 gimbal controller 😎 tell me one thing, it looks like the caddx gimbal will keep operating after a roll over. Is this the case?
@@JIPPERR_1 yep. I had to do zero resets on it throughout the entirety of my testing. I did have to recenter it using the triple press option on the goggles a couple times but I think that was just cuz I ended up sitting differently after flipping the truck over.
@@DoRC right on! I could see getting one of these gimbals for that quality alone. My current setup requires a reset after a roll over. I can do that on the remote but in a racing situation it means I lose a lot of time. I think we're going to see a lot of custom mounting brackets for these, 3d print files etc. Having a rtr headtracking gimbal is a huge step forward for fpv cars for sure.
@JIPPERR_1 Yeah this is definitely a good setup and seems to work well. I'm more than impressed with its durability so far too. I fully expected it to either immediately die after the first bad crash or at least get crunchy with sand but neither of those happen. I'm sure over time it will get worse but so far so good.
That's so freaking cool can I borrow the whole set up in the lasernut lol I'll never afford to be able to do that I just wanna try it and play a little lol great idea man
I think that might be hard to ship to you :-)
@@DoRC lol I would be willing to pay shipping 😂 but I'm more into crawling being able to see the wheels under the truck would give you such a realistic experience that would be so cool I'm gonna have to save up some money and do this on a Capra or something
@@whiskers762 It really is an awesome experience for trail riding!
@@DoRC bet so I'll definitely have to get it was a great idea for a video be cool to see a group of ppl competing with that just because it would be so hard
@whiskers762 Yeah I'd love to see a an FPV only RC race series.
Better than watching NASCAR today...
NASCAR is pretty fun so I'll take that as a compliment :-)
