Started designing, building and flying models in the 70's. I started FPV 20 years ago, 15 years with head tracking. It may have gotten off to a slow start, but it is good to see it progressing the way it is and that nowadays, people can just buy a system to do it. After building a system for a P-51 Mustang, I stopped flying 3rd person altogether. All of my planes are flown this way. Most people will never fly a real aircraft, much less a warbird, so FPV is the next best thing.

Absolutely OUTSTANDING! Seriously, I've always wondered why I haven't seen someone try this before and if it has been done, I haven't heard about it until this very minute! I was into RC building and flying starting back in 1980. However, 'life happens' as they say, and by 1990 I had sold all my radios and gear.
In fact, I regretted leaving the hobby because it was just as the RC community began seeing the availability of RC compressor Jet engines. Before they came out, RC jets used the ducted fan systems. Unfortunately, I had to drastically reduce my spending and never got back into it.
Years later, Microsoft released MS FSX and I became a Flight-sim hobbyist from then on. But I've always kept a close eye on the RC hobby. I suppose I can afford to get back into RC planes again but I don't have many years left so I guess I'll have to be happy as a spectator on the bench.
It appears that you've really nailed this down and I would like to see someone install this rig into a Large scale UH-60 helicopter! The RC helicopter is hard enough to fly from the outside but I wonder if it would be actually easier to fly the RC from inside the cockpit? Do you know of anyone who plans to try this on a chopper?
Thanks again for the great Demo!

Awesome work and a great flight. If I had any critique it would be using Spektrum for control. As an FPV rule of thumb you want your control link to out range your video link and DJI will easily out range Spektrum control. Since you're not limited by your vision flying FPV it's very easy to get to the limit of your Spektrum gear. I recommend FrSky's newer stuff if you want something similarly easy to program as Spektrum but I personally use Radiomaster with Crossfire 900Mhz or ELRS 2.4Ghz (good for at least 40-60km control vs 20km for DJI video). You likely will never bump into either of those limits but I like my links to be bulletproof, or as close as possible. I've had Spektrum glitch on me inside 1km and I no longer trust it.

I saw something similar, but one step beyond. The pilot sat in a seat with gimbals. When he would bank the RC plane to the left, the seat would bank to the left, same with the right. When he would dive the plane, the seat would tilt forward. When he would climb, the seat would tilt back. Straight and level flight, the seat would be level.

First of all, awesome video and commentary. This makes me want to get back into RC! I taught aerobatics for about 8 years in Decathlons, a Pitts and an Extra300 and for the most part you're using the same sight pictures and references that I used to teach my students. What type of transmitter do you use? I have been flying on an NX8 and AR630 receivers and I have had a real problem with loss of signal control. I crashed a Ultra Slow stick from about 200 feet, i was doing a maneuver and it was headed into the dirt and with 10 seconds to recover, I was moving the sticks like a madman and the plane had a mind of its own and barreled straight into the ground with zero deviation from my inputs. I had a flight today that almost ended the same way, but luckily i regained control about 2 seconds above the ground. I am really looking for a more reliable alternative.
