    Absolutely!! Every time I saw the S5 footage, I felt it was far more cinematic and pleasing as well. Before buying the s5x, I asked various owners of both cameras, and they told me image quality wise.. they were identical! Buy they were not to my eyes, the difference was big. I am happy to hear that a true professional thinks in the same way, I feel less of a fool now 😊. I will definitely check the external recording option to make it more s5 looking footage.
    As always, great video

    • @LucaBono.Studio
      @LucaBono.Studio  20 дней назад +1

      The difference is not really big, but it's noticeable if you compare the footage or jpegs side by side. On my case, working with multicam setups, I do see the difference. If you film externally in BRAW or ProRes RAW you'll get a much nicer image than the one you get from the OG S5. You can download the test footage in the community tab and play with it. Cheers!

    • @spetlafilm
      @spetlafilm 19 дней назад +2

      What makes a picture cinematic is the cinematographer, not the camera. The differences are there, but they are so subtle that the viewer will not be interested in them. Plus, the original S5 doesn't even have a properly integrated braw. Sometimes I think filmmakers cling too much to technique and not creativity.

      @@spetlafilm what do you mean by BRAW is S5 is not properly integrated?

    • @spetlafilm
      @spetlafilm 19 дней назад

      @@anasrida3454 It doesn't behave like a BRAW. The camera applies sharpening, the WB looks like it's baked in. Panasonic only solved this with the next generation. I had both, and I tested it.

    You're so right about image quality, both the S5 and S1 have a very "rawlike" rendering (almost the same than if you take a burst of raw pictures), the S5II just looks overprocessed, I honestly never seen anything like this even on the old GH cameras.
    The 4K of the S5II looks too soft and too sharp in the same time, soft because the amount of details is worse than the S5/S1 (even more in bad lightning) and also oversharpened because of the huge amount of sharpening used. This is to the point the standard profiles in 4K looks the same than oversampled and oversharpened 1080P image. 5,9K, 6K and Open Gate are better but still not comparable to the S1, I even prefer the 4K of my S5 to the 6K of the S5II.

    • @LucaBono.Studio
      @LucaBono.Studio  18 дней назад +1

      Let’s hope the future cameras will have the glorious image quality we all know from Lumix!

    • @slows728
      @slows728 14 дней назад

      @@davidmultimedia2024 Indeed the S5II has worse image quality than the S5 in video because of overprocessing, not only oversharpening but also details filtering.
      And while it's true the GH5 is overprocessed, it uses almost zero details filtering and noise reduction as opposed to the S5II, so the videos of the GH5 are still very good with no loss of details.
      I can understand you find the GH5 too sharp, IMHO using -5 sharpening I never thought it was so much oversharpened but it still uses a good amount of digital sharpening.
      However, there is a way on the GH5 to get the same pleasing image than the S5, you just need to use the 4:3 Open Gate mode (not the 6K photo). This mode has almost zero sharpening added, and in my eyes it has better details than the GH6 and G9II, very close to a burst of raw pictures.
      Also, there is now way to downgrade firmware on the S5II. If it was possible I would have downgraded as fast as I can. And to be honest, I used the S5II with the 1.0 firmware and I'm pretty sure the oversharpening and noise filtering were already there, at least with most of the pictures profiles.

    Little note at the end of the missing raw controls: If you switch the color space and gamma dropdown in the S5iiX footage to Blackmagic film and Gen 5, you get full access to the sliders on the right side. Small nitpick, but hope it helps!

    I’m absolutely loving the colours that you are getting with real-time LUT … particularly the portrait at 4.29. I was wondering if that was a custom LUT based on VLog or are you basing it on standard profile… it’s very ‘cinematic’ like a scene from a movie. Wondering if you were using an mis filter or anything to get that look or if you make the LUT that you were using available?

    • @LucaBono.Studio

      Thanks! It’s an sRGB LUT based on the standard profile. I’ve made some adjustment in the RGB curves for the highlights roll off and I used a Tiffen Black Pro Mist 1/8. I will think about sharing new LUTs…I don’t feel like I want to be the RUclipsr selling stuff to the audience. Ciao!

    Did you change any AF settings or you leave it on default. My sigma 24 and 35 perform the same in AF like my lumix lenses (35 and 50 mm) but with sigma lenses any change to speed or sensitivity sometimes affect performance. Lumix glass is free of this issues.

    • @LucaBono.Studio

      The Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 is moving big and more glass elements when focusing. That’s a different story for the AF on small prime lenses.

    With the "consumer community" increasingly demanding sharpness (addicted to mobile "quality"), I don't think newer cameras will have an optical low pass filter, since this particular filter adds Blur to the final result.
    And how will the moire problem be solved?
    The Moiré phenomenon, so far there is no way to completely eliminate it (you can still observe it in studios with professional cameras, that's why there is a specific dress code, avoid clothes with lines...).
    Moiré can be reduced by moving the camera left and right or up and down to change the camera's shooting angles.
    In some cases it can be corrected in post processing by adding blur.

    • @LucaBono.Studio
      @LucaBono.Studio  19 дней назад

      I think it’s time to see a professional video camera from Lumix, without thinking about the consumer community. Something in the 5/6000€ range to compete with the Sony FX6.
      Moire can be avoided with some tricks, it’s true, but sometimes you can’t and that’s a problem with paying clients

      You are right, but I am afraid it is too late for Panasonic. Sony A1 ii, Canon R1,R3,R5 ii, Nikon z9, z8, what more can Panasonic offer? Maybe only internal ND, and more competitive prices. But still it is not enough. Where are the pro lenses? The only company that DOES NOT HAVE ANY prime LENS with f1.4 (except for a 50mm), and NO LENS OVER 200mm. When you invest in expensive cameras, you ALWAYS take into account the Native lenses that each company has.
