Landlord from hell story.....When I was in college, I had a landlord who liked to do "pop inspections" but never did I expect him to show up while I was "busy" in the bedroom....and just walk right on in!!! He swore he knocked, but who cares if he did or not, I wouldn't have answered. Talk about an "uncomfortable" moment. And he didn't just leave, he stood in my bedroom and talked to us!!! From that day on, I had a wedge in my door anytime I was home.

It’s been such a game changer
We rented out our first home and a year later when the renters were moving out, final inspection showed the toilet listing sideways,ready to fall through the floor, leaky water and sewage below to the cellar! When asked why they didn't call when the leak first started, they said they assumed we wouldn't fix it like every other landlord they've had. Needless to say their damage deposit did not cover the cleanup/ mold remediation and having to tear out the entire bathroom floor, put new joists as well as a portion of exterior wall / sill plate and put an entire bathroom back together again. Every renter after that was given this story as an example of what not to do in our house. We were just a phone call away.😹

We painted our red kitchen white and it covered so easily. Two coats of really great quality paint
Love to hear that. I am a lazy girl, so I hate primer. And I feel like the paint tech has really evolved, so you don’t need it the same way anymore.
@@LaughCryDIY agreed!!!! 20 years ago it took 4 coats of red paint to get the correct color. Now, it only took 2 coats to cover it up 😂

JFC next time the mere THOUGHT of Thai food crosses your mind you GO to Ruen Pair at 5257 Hollywood and you ORDER the panang curry and the pad see yew. I just checked their hours and they now close at the wussy hour of 11pm. When I lived nearby it was open until 3am (cue Seth Meyers Back in My Day intro). They will swap out any meat for tofu and their fried tofu is fucking fantastic. At least, it was 15 years ago when I left your fair city 😬

Thank you! So much fun and love hearing about your landlord horror story. Mine won’t let me do anything and has written it into the rental agreement. Her OCD is so real that she wipes down every surface including ceiling but leaves the 1970’s sink top with cigarette burn marks that I am not allowed to change. I would be so happy with builder beige right now over this grubby always looking dirty cream. Don’t even get me started on the cheapest $7 blinds that my cats looked at and broke. That she wants to charge me $45 for. When I moved in she said you have too much stuff. ❤

Landlords from hell storytime: when I was a kid,, we lived in a garage apartment, super cool one, I might add, we broke the lease, starting moving out because of faulty wiring, the landlord pulled a gun on my parents! Cops were called we got our stuff and hauled butt. Then when I was a renter, I had a landlord sneaking around his wife and messaging me inappropriately; later I heard they eventually divorced...big surprise. Oh and then I had one that lived next door. He smoked crack all the time and would try to get my (ex) husband to come over for a smoke and "service". This one I have now took me to court to try to evict me over $200 accrued late fees, even though I was currently paid up and paying on said late fees. I won the case....I'm still here beotch!
Sadly, my love life is much like my landlord experiences also! 😂
OK, wow. These are all moments of hell 😂😭 Glad you survived. But ugh, extra points for the creepy landlord. Always the worst. Oh, also one time I had an annoying landlord who sent me a text. And I screenshotted and sent it to a friend, talking sh*t. Only to realize I’d texted it to HIM. 🤦♀️

Once when we were renting my husband woke up in the morning to use the bathroom. As he walked out of our bedroom (we always slept with the bedroom door closed) he literally walked into the maintenance man. My husband asked (in R-rated language) what he was doing, and the guy started he-hawing about being there to fix out washer/dryer stackable. Ahhhh no. We never called about needing repair. Which my husband told him. The guy said we were notified the day before with a note on our door. Ahhhh no. There was never a note on the door. My husband was fuming at this point and the guy left. My hubby called the renters office....and guess what? They didn’t do a damned thing. Didn’t even apologize. Scary thing is my husband was on a late shift that day that’s why he was still there that morning otherwise he would have been at work and I would have been home alone. We ended up breaking the lease and moving out as soon as we found another place.
Nooooooooooooooo. Ok thank god he was there. But blegh. Boo. Glad you moved.

Thank you for the chopstick hack - excellent idea. Are you getting sponsorship $ for the edger hack? Seriously, you could do a tutorial demonstrating a specific brand’s edger. I’ve always used a brush because I didn’t know how to use an edger and was afraid of them. Great to see Rachel again - that kitchen has held up amazingly well! Would love to see the makeover, and the hunt for decor/furniture, really the whole process. Maybe make it a series? If Rachel doesn’t mind us nosing into her life like that. But we already know about the braless sich (less bra=better life), so we’re already kind of nosy anyway. SO sorry about your experience, and having to move in LA during the pandemic - you win the award for appallingly awful landlord story!

My dream in life is to be edger-sponsored. Haha. And yeah, will def bring y’all along as we put together her place. We’re just in that totally indecisive stage. Love to have a blank slate, but it can be tough to start from scratch.
What I don’t understand is when we see how awful and horrible shape these apartments were beforehand and people still rant about how the landlord should put you out. Most renters don’t have the skill, time or money to makeover a crusty apartment that they don’t own. Landlords should be made liable to upkeep these places, realistically the judicial system protect slumlords far more than tenants.
Completely. I mean, how many “landlord specials” have we all seen?! And it kills me especially when they’ve owned it for decades, so their mortgage is about 10 times less than the rent they’re making on it.
