My friend passed in 2019. She was a craft hoarder!. She tried all kinds of crafts and would buy everything you needed for the craft, I mean everything. When she died she was 94 years old still driving and going to classes everyday. when we cleared her house of 30 years of unopened craft supplies, this is the place we took 4 truck loads of goodies. Everything from Crickets machines to a knitting machine. A complete Wilson cake baking course, fabric, yarn, all kinds of paints, rubber stamps, card stock, jewelry making tools, pen, ink, craft books ect. My family is so happy there was a place to give these things to and know they are going to be used to make others happy.
Whoa!!!! What a story and what gift that you were able to give to others. She sounds like one heck of a lady. RIP to her creative soul.
👏👏👏 blessing’s to y’all who loved her and her respect of crafts. In sooooo many cases people just throw it in the garbage; good, usable items someone spent their money on🥲. I’ll never understand why “throw it out” is so prevalent in our world. Someone somewhere can put it to use. Not only crafts but other things in general(clothes, household, tools…). Ok I’m sorry I went on, but thank you!

my sister in SC has gone to a craft thrift store in Greenville... don't know if it's a "Remainders" branded one, but same concept! she loves it!
We did have one, loved it; unfortunately, it did not survive covid, like many small businesses.
If I went in that store I would feel like I'd died and gone to heaven!!!!

My town has had one of these for years and it's THE BEST!!! (It also helps fund the local public schools' art programs!) I think most humans have the urge to create, but like Rachele says, we don't all have the $ to start a new hobby from scratch. And I know many of us makers have tons of never-used/no-longer-used supplies and tools that someone might really want. So brilliant.

My partner & I went there a few months back. It really is chock-full of amazing things, quite overwhelming (in a good way). Funny thing, I was walking down an aisle and heard some teenagers asking, "Who in the world would need THAT?" about some wool fiber. Well, I'm an old lady & talk to strangers in stores so I told them, "I would. I've got two spinning wheels and several drop spindles at home." Alas, I also have more fiber than you can shake a stick at so I did not buy any, but we did get some good bargains on lanyards, and a hard-coat for styrofoam (so handy when making tombstones for Halloween). I know we bought more than that, and I'm sure once I post this comment I'll remember what it was LOL. We really need to go back there again.
Thank you for spotlighting this great shop. It's a wonderful place to just get lost in among all the bargains.
PS - "20+ years" since 1988; yeah, emphasis on the plus there; it was 36 years ago. Yikes...where does the time go???

When I first started teaching at LA City College in the late 80s, I had that yellow chalk. Brought back the days overhead projectors and plastic sheets that you'd write on with markers. I think the classroom lost something when we all went to Power Point. I'm freezing on the East Coast right now, so a trip to Pasadena was what I needed. It made me both happy and desperately homesick. Thanks for that! :)

We have “Scrap” here in Portland, Oregon (same concept). LOVE it for Halloween costume making inspo and supplies, greeting cards, gift wrap/bags, yarn, oh and fake fruit and real pinecones lol!

I went to this place last Fall and was so overwhelmed and happy at the same time! We were on a time crunch so I only got through maybe a quarter of the place, but I will be going back! It is only about an hour from me! Thanks for this wonderful walk through.

Exactly! Plus a place to bring my unused craft supplies which when I try to donate to thrift stores am told,"We dont take that stuff." I remember, not long ago, buying huge bags of miscellaneous toys, craft items, etc., and having so much fun with it.

We have a Who Gives a Scrap in Colorado...same kind of craft thrift store. . I found the exact pattern of a dress I made to wear to my senior prom in 1973. It was a dollar then and still a dollar in 2024!! Such a fun place to shop.

In Santa Barbara we have a store called "Art From Scrap" been there for 20 or 30 years. Love it. Looks like remainders has WAY more fabric though. Love the headless dolls. Who doesn't need one of those?

What a cool place - thank you for bringing us along! My advice for a tempting place like that - bring an amount of cash you can afford to spend, and leave debit and credit cards at home. Although this may lead to you annoying other shoppers by standing in an aisle desperately trying to decide between several great buys, as I have done! 😂

We have a store like this in Connecticut. It's called ECOWORKS, and it's in North Haven, in case anyone from CT is on here. Only thing is that they're only open Sundays, 12-5.

What a great option!! Luckily, I usually move crafty things on to a teacher friend only. Because in the past, I felt donating them to a thrift store was a ticket straight to the landfill (our local GW will price skeins of yarn higher than retail). Hope to see more stores like this one.

I grew up in the 60's and remember the chalk they used then. It had kind of a shiny outside. Many kids ate paste....I ate the chalk....lol. I would nibble on it. Apparently it had something in it that my body lacked and this was a way to get it.

Wow - that would be interesting to visit, just to see everything they have. I would not be able to work there, the anxiety OCD of something not where it was supposed to be, would be horrific. Just can't imagine having to sort the donations to the proper location. The headless little human dolls were a hoot!

In Oakland, Calif. there is a similar store called The Center for Creative Reuse. It’s for school teachers to buy cheap things for projects, but the artist and crafters love it too!

Here in Northern California we are fortunate to have a place in San Francisco called SCRAP that has similar items but much more including construction materials and you name it they have it they are also a non-profit on the peninsula In Sunnyvale we have Fabmo which is a non-profit that gets there items from the design centers in San Francisco and from private donations which includes fabric, tile, Wallpaper, leather, wood samples, carpets and private donations of crafting items, patterns craft books, jewelry also tooo much other stuff at both places to list.

Yours is the second YT channel I have watched lately that talks about Remainders. Before that, I had never heard of it, even though I have .lived in Los Angeles County for almost 60 years. I must make a trip (or is it really a pilgrimage?) to Pasadena ASAP!

Oh, you HAVE to! Right in the neighborhood. It’s perfect for when you want to do a little project, especially the paint remnants.
I’ve really enjoyed shopping at similar stores in Houston, Ft. Worth, San Antonio, Seguin, and Austin, Texas, and even volunteered at the biggest one, Austin Creative Reuse. I love that there are so many around. I also agree that I like buying things I can joyfully donate back.

I found two of these in my general area. One in Denton Texas and one in Fort Worth. Both are a pretty good drive for me but well worth it.
There’s a store like this in Atlanta called Scraplanta.

We have one in Sacramento its called Recreate.
I found something similar when I visited a shopping centre in Norfolk Virginia

I want one of these in my neighborhood. To go to... I would work at it. I would run it! There's a creative reuse place in Queens and that's like SOOO far away. Also you have to have like permission to go. But I know there is so much of this stuff being thrown out all the time

Gosh !!! I wish they had one in the Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia area.. Im always on the look out for crafty treasures at my local Thrift shops. If I lived by there I know I would be there every week donating and buying LOL

I'm in VA and there are at least 2 that I know of. They both are "reuse it centers. The one in Norfolk is the 757 reuse it. The one in Richmond, I'm not sure if the name is more than reuse it center. They have classes too. I've donated more than I buy. I've been purging because I'm selling my house to downsize. You never know what what you will find. It's awesome.
