I love you for "animal prints is basically a neutral"! 🦓 It's refreshing when everyone else is obsessed by beige 🤢 (the ugliest word in French language, btw).
Katy, NEVER apologize for a longer video!! 😂 Loved ❤ this episode. I live in a 180 ft THOW (tiny house on wheels) and aspire to be a boho maximalist which I think is shunned in tiny houses. Great to see Baguette. Have a great week!
Love a boho maximalist. And yes, I know small spaces are always pushed toward minimalism, but it can be so fun. I love seeing wallpapered campers or bold textiles.
OMG thank you for the shout out, Katy!!! ❤❤❤❤❤ I loved this history and analysis episode. You reinforced what I'm doing in my own maximalist space, but you also gave me ideas! Right now I am really digging plaid. Current project: my dog's bed is too big but he wants to sleep in my tiny bedroom because he's obsessed with me. I'm selling my long dresser and going to replace with a desk and put him under the desk. I think that will save a bit more space. Great episode!!
Ooh yes. Great workaround for it. And I feel you for plaid. I was seeing some really bold bright-colored plaid that was really delightful (like yellow and pink). A little throw on an ottoman is 😍😍😍😍
This was great. I am a maximalist(Taurus, no brainer) first drawn to Asian (Chinese, Indonesian/Art Nouveau) while attending High School in Seattle at a time that had a real Asian vibe. Now, Boho. What a lot of work you did to present this video. I loved how you did the ideas behind the design, then the different ways to achieve it. Terrific video. Thank you. P.S Yes, animal print is a neutral.😊
Shifting tastes are so interesting. was never that into chinoiserie, but I have grown to really fore it as I get older. Thanks for the video love too. Trying to mix them up and show real examples.
Wow! I'm so inspired and excited by this video. I apologize for the book that your fixing to recieve from me. I'm very long winded and decor is so exciting and noone in my actual life is into it but me! I've only recently become a sub of yours and haven't yet deep dived your channel because, well I think I'm a decor hoarder and right now I'm focused on Christmas! I have enough Christmas decor to decorate a pretty massive house but yet I don't live in anywhere near a massive one. But yet, I keep buying more crap! Ok so this is the thing for me, I think I'm really not sure how to mix styles. I've tried to be as minimalist as I can, I've said I'm a mediumalist, but it's just not true. I'm a maximalist at heart. I have beautiful decor I just really don't know how to layer it. I love victorian, gold ornate decor right now. But last year I was all about neutral boho. I also am loving dark academia, whimsical, witchy, and a "practical magic" type of vibe! I still carried over the love of rattan. I'm all about patterns too. Really this past year I've purchased so many pillow covers- from velvet, linen, bouncel, floral (I have always loved florals btw), plaids, gingham and stripes. I'm sure I left something out. I loved "animal print is basically a neutral" .The main thing that is conflicting for me from your video is I LOVE neutrals still. Black, white, creams, tan, light and dark browns. However in my florals (I have tons of faux florals, I love dried ones too tho) . I use baby pinks, greens, and lavender in the summer, and in the fall and winter I love, again the neutrals plus plums and burgundy's. I'm really loving the moodier jewel tones this past few months (love greens too now and I never have before) but not in my main decor. If I owned my home right now I'd have built INS with probably a color drenched room (probably dark green or black somewhere). I love that bleached out vintage olive atelier wood look, but I also love a deep rich walnut or something, not too warn toned tho. I'm really all over the dang place... Lol. If I didn't mention it, I love antiques, vases, pottery in general. I just purchased- no kidding probably $300 worth of led candles (tapers and pillars), candle stick holders, brass and cast iron, (literally haven't even pulled them out of their boxes yet) I just ordered a few hours ago another 2 sets of candle stick holders (mini tapers this time). 1 set is cast iron 3 legged ones and then a set of brass ones. I just discovered mini taper candles last week... Lol. I'm getting the moody lighting ready for the winter I guess... Lol! Can I do maximalist properly with neutral decor pieces (bowls, vases, statues, objects in general) and use just moodier colors with paint (eventually)?
@@trinapembertonhi hi! The shoe answer is YES! In fact, some neutrals like black and white are a great way to every room together even if you have different colors throughout the home. I almost didn’t address them because they’re assumed to be present in various objects, you know? I also would argue you can make a maximalist space with only neutrals if you layer in a lot of objects and a ton of different high contrast textures to make the space feel exciting. But like I said, incorporating similar neutrals throughout the home can help things feel more cohesive, so go nuts!
I call myself a Minimalist Maximalist! Just like at 7:21! True neutral White Walls with an absolute cacophony of rainbow art and furniture, And the most important part being that it's easy to clean! I love being a maximalist but I am neurodivergent and I just can't dust everything so having a room filled with things to the brim that require constant dusting never worked for me. I absolutely love eclectic style and I love really ornate stuff but oh my gosh. The dusting. The way dirt will settle into every every single crevice of an ornate Victorian trim. 😅
Haha. That’s very true. It’s why you have to be a ghost to appreciate full Victorian maximalism 😂 And I do totally understand the overwhelm of it all. I think we need more mediumalist content to fill the void. I also always assumed I’d color drench my next place, but the crisp white with bold pops is really enticing.
@@LaughCryDIY It allows for so much flexibility to change everything, You would never know my walls are a (sad when alone) true neutral gray because they're too happy when covered with art! Thank you so much for the idea of curtains in lieu of wallpaper so I can keep that flexibility while having an entire patterned wall (s. All the walls.)
My heart is racing. I love everything about this video. This is by far my favorite aesthetic and everything you talked about has me wanting to finish all the rooms in my house this morning hahaha
I accidentally did the plain/pattern/plain curtains in my living room because I kept buying less than I needed for 10 feet of window space and decided to just hang it all at once, but in 2 rows, so the patterned ones slide from behind plain ones. Sofa and armchair covers are the best budget and renter friendly trick I've found. And they can be modified with tassels, dyed etc. If you have a very scratchy cat, it's good to put a thick, old blanket underneath for extra protection.
I love happy accidents like that. I ended up pairing curtains in one episode because we couldn’t decide which ones we liked most, so we went with both. And yes to kitty-proofing furniture!
I loved this video. So much eye candy. I'm hoping to decorate my living/dining area in yellow (ceiling/walls) with zebra accents, like a zebra chaise with a black and white credenza at its side. A portrait of an aristocratic zebra type will hang above it. I decorate abundantly and then pare down. I want to try vertical stripes in the corners of the room to soften the sharp corner edges.
It was nice to see Lisa Lampe again. I decorated an Ikea lamp after that video. I still use it every day. The cats and l turn it on before bed. I use a soft red bulb and we call it our HAPPY LIGHT. Different colored bulbs are an easy color change for a room.
@@LaughCryDIY well, I HAVE introduced some velvet fabrics and some candle holders - including candles! - into my home since I watch your channel, so all is not lost ;-) But I also think that this wayfair channel should have paid you to do this video (for their "a style is born" thing)

Wow...this is such a smart video. I really enjoyed learning more about maximalism. Seems I'm on trend with the reno I'm doing of my space. My space for years was grey walls with grey curtains and grey furniture...no joke...I just decided one day that I needed my home to feel alive.
