@@friendnfamily9053 After my recent oil change it was leaking out of the filter housing gasket. The Goodyear that serviced my vehicle said it was a pinhole in the housing. They replaced it at a fee of $60. It still leaked and now they are saying it isn't their issue. My 07 LS has never leaked even a drop until this. What would you recommend I do?
Been my experience that nobody can match Lexus for performance/reliability/luxury. How many different oil filters would the Germans use across the model line? Yeah, the Germans hold an edge on a racetrack, but in day-to-day driving, Lexus is king.
Thank you for watching! It is for releasing the oil from the filter housing, which should be done before removing the filter housing. I actually tried, but it was too tight and I ended up removing the housing, instead.
There is that plastic piece that you put off to the side. I bought th housing and a filter, but I don't know what to do with that plastic piece? Was that extra for different housing since ours look to be after market? I have the EXACT SAME housing and filter purchased.
You probably noticed how much oil came out when he opened the oil filter housing. That's what the plastic piece is for. Before you loosen the filter housing, unscrew the middlle nut and then insert the tubed plastic part in there. It will release the oil that's been sitting there and won't be messy.
The little plastic peice is for draining the filter cartridge. WHEN HE USED THE EXTENSION TO TAKE THE BOTTOM PEICE OFF, YOU INSERT THE LITTLE PLASTIC PEICE TO DRAIN THE OIL. SUPPOSEDLY SO IT DOESN'T MAKE A MESS AND THE HOUSING IS EMPTY WHEN YOU TAKE IT OFF. THEN YOU THROW IT AWAY.
Why change the o-ring under the oil filter cap drainbolt if you didn't bother to drain the filter housing before removing the oil filter cap? Just wondering... Torque specs... Oil pan drainplug = 30 ft.lbs. Oil filter housing cap = 18 ft.lbs Oil filter cap drainbolt = 9 ft.lbs. And where is the center tube that goes inside the oil filter cap?

What about the aluminum cylindrical mesh piece that goes in the middle of the filter? Did you forget that? I thought it requires it?

Great video and meticulously done. Thank you for sharing.
This man loves his ls460! He can work at the dealership with that attention to detail. Great job

Where did you buy the tool for the oil filter?
Same Toyota filter for my Camry XLE and Lexus ES350. How cool. Nothing the Germans would ever think of doing.
My VW and Porsche use the same. Nice propaganda tho

One. Every four cylinder VW made since 1974 uses the same filter. There are a couple different ones for the V6 engines, but not many.
What??? Do I need a special tool to take that filter off?
AutoZone sells them.
No it just makes it easier
You don't need it you just need a 3/8 extension
