Good to see that the newer models were just as reliable as the old ones. To this day most of lexus’s cars are still made in Japan and imported. I don’t know what it is about quality control in America and Germany but they never match Japanese quality control. It Also makes sense because all the v8’s that Toyota made are based on the 1uz-fe, they just have certain changes to get more liters out of them before they install them.
Did it come without air suspension or was it changed out in a conversion strut kit. That’s my biggest concern buying a LS 460 is the expensive repair for air suspension and those knuckle arm control bars😮
Had 2006 LS430, bought it with 120,000 Miles Drove it to 192,000 with no issues, I did upgrade the front brakes to Stoptech Rotors and pads from Tirerack, made a huge difference on stopping this heavy car. Was the best car I have ever owned. Got rear ended by an SUV and my car was totaled, otherwise I would still be driving it. The most reliable luxury used brand you can get.
I work at a body shop and have to drive a lot of vehicles to and from the dealer shop, all years and models, and i have never heard a factory sound system as good as this car yet.
I bought a used 2009 LS460L AWD that is fully loaded had 75k miles on it then, now has 262k, interior is still extremely clean no tears or rips, the body looks close to new, have had very few issues just minor things,. The ride is incredible, it does use a bit of oil between changes. I get about 25 mpg on highway, 20-21 city. Hoping to get another 100k out of this beauty.
I've driven our family Ford excursion for about 17 years, will always keep it. But I purchased a 2011 black 460L because I was ready for some quiet luxury. It had 101,000 on it. We absolutely love this car it is amazing, I hope to have it for a super long time. I over baby it but it's worth it.
Definitely! It’s a little frustrating when you hear them making the “doingy” sound. But honestly, I think we only hear it because the cab is so darn quiet. 😂
@@TannerRichieMain hahahah very true. It’s crazy how much this car absolutely impresses everyone that rides in it. I connected a PlaySation classic in the back to the rear TV using a simple adapter. Pair that with the OEM headphones and the rear fridge with some drinks, you’ve got a Rolls Royce for half the price of a new Camry! Lol
I have a 2009 LS and to me it sounds like the abs is starting to activate when anything more than the lightest touch on the brakes is applied. The dealer couldn’t do anything about it. Otherwise, brake performance is good.
@@howardleopold9887 Wow, never heard of that issue. I’d try replacing the ABS/VSC module. Goes for around $150 on eBay. Take it to an independent shop to install

Not a bad idea! They had a few extra years to refine by 2012. I think 2010 on is good to shoot for, not complaining about my 2009 though! 🤷♂️ Haha, I hear you on the new LS. I love the door panels with the fabric folds though, very stylish interior, especially in the maroon color. Thank you for watching and for the comment! 👍
my mother has this same exact car got it in 2019...the first car i learned to really drive i love it so much 10/10 definitely recommend. im going to look into the newer version for myself for sure.
Hey Vince! ACTUALLY, if I could have a do over I wouldn’t go this direction. Depending on your financial situation, I’d say get one of the newish Honda accords, or another car that looks nice and stylish, but doesn’t break the bank! I’ll tell you my car, even though I loved it, didn’t generate any new sales for me. Make sure your car is clean and reliable, and put your money towards something that will grow tour business! 👍 Hope that helps! Congrats on your license.
Nice review! I have a 2010 460L and agree with all your comments. The only other thing that goes wrong with this model are the struts! Had them replaced TWICE. Luckily, like you, we took the extended warranty and covered it. The ride and sound system are second to none! 150,000 miles and counting.
I have a 2012 and love the car! Cool additional features to mention are brake hold and auto parking brake. I suggest understanding up front that these are expensive to fix and just set aside a few grand for the inevitable costly repair. Then enjoy the car worry free. Great video thanks.
Thank you for the comment! Very true. The auto parking brake was awesome! Never liked the brake hold all that much, but a nice feature to have. 💪 Enjoy your 2012!

In May 2023 I got a 2017 LS. It had 69,500 miles and cost $36,500. Having owned around a dozen cars and trucks over a life-time, this car is easily the best of them by far. I am constantly reassured that I made the best car buying decision every time I start it up.
You have the rare Comfort Plus package with rear reclining seats, leather stitched arm rests and soft close doors. I had a black 2008 with the same interior and features. I wished it was the "L" trim in the same package but they are rare. I added the 5 spoke 19 inch wheels which COMPLETELY transformed the look and made it look more sportier and was still comfortable. It was great the 2 1/2 years I had it, but always feared the brake actuator would go out so I sold with while the value was still high. I miss it terribly and kinda wished I had kept it.
Good to know, I wasn’t sure of the exact package I had! Definitely, the L has GREAT leg room. For me, it would be too much to park! 😂 When I was making this video, I was having some seller’s remorse myself...so I feel you there. Such a good car! Thanks for the comment. 👍
@@nikhilb339 24 mpg on average. I have never replaced suspension parts, but my car lives on the highways. Only had one problem, and that's the famous leak in the rear glass.
GORGEOUS! I want this particular LS 2009 but I want the long wheelbase (L) version that was available in 2009. I'm coming from a long wheelbase Mercedes-Benz S-Class so I enjoy the extra room. Lovely cars!
Appreciate it! Not a bad combo there! The L is a great option, gotta love the extra 6 inches of leg room. 🤷♂️ How has tour S-Class been reliability wise?
My great grandma had an old Buick, that thing was so comfortable! I don’t feel like the new ones fee as nice for some reason? 🤔 Kind of lost the whole comfort and luxury dealio, other than leather seats. The old ones were great!
So many features this car is amazing I have an 07LS460L Same reclining backseats but they also give you massage there's a refrigerator back there it's actually called a cold Box Power sunshade both doors and back window Mark Levison sounds sick, I don't have the break problem but I do have the wind noise
Bought a RX450h F Sport here in the UK, I paid the extra £900 for the extended warranty and breakdown cover includes services , I don’t want any large bills for the next three years. I can sleep at night no worries.
Great honest review and well worth a watch. While 30k to 13k might feel painful in 4.5 years, keep in mind the guy buying a new one probably suffers around 65k of depreciation in the same time frame instead of 17k, plus the difference in interest (if there are loans for each). Also, buying a used luxury car is a safer bet than a lower entry level or even sports car as the wealthy original owners commonly service at the dealer and have the ability to pay for proper maintenance. The key is to be the second owner, not third or fourth after the "poors" have bought it and run it into the ground haha.
car is pretty sweet been looking at the 2013 and up since they fixed all the issues the previous gens had like the bad door panels, wind noise and control arms
Yes, thank you for pointing this out. I just got something in the mail about this (after selling). Luckily, this car never had a problem with the dash and door panels cracking. Appreciate the comment.
@@TannerRichieMain once the ZLZ inspection is done , you need to make sure the parts are ordered and follow up with the parts department manager , NOT your service advisor !
I always refered to the Lexus LS460 as the "car of purity" because of how clean the design is. Unfortunately, the new Lexus designs are just over styled that it looks tacky.
I agree. There are aspects of the new design I really like, but I'm still not a fan of the front grill...I think it's a little overboard. There are a couple of companies doing that right now though.
@@TannerRichieMain I think it would be ok on some of the more sporty models but for something that emphasizes a smooth ride it doesn’t make much sense to me.

I’ve had mine for a year and i agree with basically everything. I don’t think it’s difficult to park tho. Its definitely big but I’ve driven big trucks and small cars so i think I’ve got a pretty good sense of the size. But it definitely cant be parked anywhere
Thank you! I hear you, it’s not really size for me, it’s more orientation in the parking space...😂 Probably a personal issue. I think parking an F350 is easier than parking this thing for whatever reason...but the parking sensors work great, I just am never able to whip it in as fast as I could a Toyota Avalon. Appreciate the comment! What year is yours?
@@TannerRichieMain mine is 08. It could be the visibility and the length something is definitely off about the size tho. I definitely understand why it would be difficult to park tho. My dad and grandpa had me driving trucks at 15 tho.
@@TannerRichieMain I have a 2014 regular wheelbase LS, and I find it difficult to park straight as well. I have to roll down my window and hang out of it to check my alignment lol....and ive driven a Ford Excursion that was way easier to place in parking spots, as well as a 79 Town Car that was like 20 feet long....I dont understand why the LS is so difficult to park straight, but just wanted you to know you're not the only one!
There are also several FaceBook owners groups for the LS460 that are excellent for everything from advice on anything you may want to know are buying from other group members…
I always wanted of these. I've owned a 2008 IS250 Rwd, a 2014 IS350 RWD and now I have a 2014 GX460 Base....I'm ready for something that has excellent cloud like ride quality. The problem with this gen LS460 according to the Car Wizard is they have an expensive computer system and the Dealership and only the dealership has the software to service it and is super expensive to do so. I think these look better and have better performance than the previous LS430 But they are much simpler vehicles to service. Lexus Dealership Service Costs are already outrageous for there less complicated vehicles once they start getting around 100k miles.

@@wamboonleng6850 hi boon leng, the car is mechanically sorted, save for the perished control arm bushes and collapsed air suspension, so I decided to replace all the arm bushes with poly U bushes and swapout the air suspension to adjustable coil overs... @@TannerRichieMain thanks for reaching out, Yup to be honest I prefer my car without the rear cooler and ionizer as it takes up too much boot space... Hopefully I could have removed and functions professionally deleted some day.... Truth be told, these ls are definitely made for temperate climate countries, as the car rubbers perish rather quickly in hot tropical climate... Wished our Malaysian importer brought in Gulf Spec version of these LS... Cause those are really built for crazy hot weather
Nice video, thanks. Just wanted to add, I have a 2004 LS 430 UL and I bought that same warranty for my car some 4 years go for $2200. Never got to use it. Just didn't have any issues and to this day, is been a great reliable car. I thought with having Air suspension, I surely would of, but didn't. Now five years later, I did have to have my ESM repaired $150 and my Mark Levinson Amp fixed for another $180 I think.
Oh wow! That’s the risk, right? I almost didn’t, because it’s hard to stomach $3,000 up front not knowing if you’ll even have issues. Very happy I bought mine, as I DEFINITELY got my money’s worth and more. On another note, I have heard the 430s are even more reliable than 460s...so it kind of makes sense? Both are great cars!
I have a 2003 LS430 that I bought new, now 180K miles. People ask if it's new. This car is just as good as I could ever imagine. I'd get a newer LS, but I just can't see any reason to do that. If I did, I think I would be a bit disappointed. I will give it another 5 years and reevaluate.
The thumping noise from the brakes is a self check mechanism from the abs pump, this generation suffers from and pump failures but it’s a self check just to make sure it’s working 👌🏼 Modern Toyotas still do this I think it’s comical 😂
Good Review. I am concerned about the comfort of the Driver's seat especially. Also, there was no comparison with its peers, esp with the S Class that every Lexus LS (and esp the LS430 but also the original LS400), at least in the exterior, is so obviously trying to copy. I expected the LS to be more reliable than he mentioned though. I currently own two Mercedes E class Diesel 320s, 2007 and 2008, I bought them for peanuts, ($10,500 and $11.000, and both had 6 and 3 month warranties included) in 2016 and 2017, so total of 12+ years of ownership, so far ZERO unscheduled maintenance, no malfunctions, only regular oil changes and some brake wear and tear. The LS is more luxurious inside though.
Good choice much smoother and quieter than S class benz, i remember when i purchased my first benz back in the day and all my m8-s were you end up in bankruptcy... well drove with it 4,5 years and upgraded to next model, thing is if you can fix things by yourself and own some knowledge then there are almost nothing to fear really, only costly parts were airstruts since i had to buy whole unit and aftermarket parts at that time wasnt really aviable like today there are quite different price range of those to pick. Now been watching ls460-s again but thinking about 2k13 or even newer model to seek f sport looks sick also, but since my m8 has 2011 model and ive had chance to drive with it like 3 weeks straight i kinda fell "love" with it, so quiet so comfy and neither w220 w221 s classes even reach that level + now benz prices are so low that pretty much streets are full of those and it isnt anymore "cool" to own it like it used to be 10 years ago, same time lexus atleast i dont see it much here at our streets, there are some but rare sight seeing.
Control arm issue/brake actuator issues were the biggest issues with my Dad's. The valve covers went bad at 130k, I replaced them for him, not too hard of a job tbh...
@mikeross111 To clarify, in order to not discourage potential future LS owners. It's not that the valve covers went out at 130,000 but more so not replaced at 100,000 as maintenance of that part requires.
Love your ownership experience broh! Thank you its so informative. I’m planning to own this particular LS460 , but the 2010 model . It has a revised headlamp / taillights & and a bluetooth audio lol 😂

To be honest, don’t buy a car for real estate. Maybe get a nice accord or something that looks nice but is economical. To be honest, my car didn’t help me sell anymore houses. 👍

I just bought an LS460 2010 172k miles for $12,205. Everything works on the car and drives just as beautiful, do y'all have any advice or opinion for me?
My ls 460L has 212k just let dealer replace the starter for $1300 they claim six hours labor, have to remove the exhaust manifold. Would have done myself as I did with the water pump they wanted $800 to replace. I did water pump, thermostat and radiator myself. Parts were $300. Check out my RUclips videos. They wanted $800 to replace the fuel pumps oil seals slightly leaking 3 years ago. Still not bad enough to warrant replacing. Tried to get me for control arms two years ago that I didn't need. All interior panels replaced due to humidity causing them to get sticky. Great car though.
You do indeed have to remove one side of the headers to replace the starter on these cars...replacing the starter in the LS460 is a pain in the ass. I'm more impressed that you didn't have all these problems until over 200k miles lol. I had to replace a lot of these similar items in my BMW when it had 50k miles
The oil and premium gas can't be helped. Anything that calls itself synthetic oil will run an easy $75.00-95.00 then you add a quality filter and labor a reasonable $125-145 dollars for an oil change. It is the amount of oil. 18 inch tires about 55 mm high softer on the control arms. Keep vehicle in comfort mode. Coil over struts seem to be nice substitute. Might join the club one day keep on riding.

Good move getting rid of it. My 09 ls 460 awd with 159k on it would have been a money pit if I kept it. I had the same break issues, air shocks went out replaced with coil overs, all the axil boots were going bad cracking,, timing chain tensioner , and cam gear were going bad, cold start chain would slap around for a couple seconds and top end noise from cam gear. Noise would stop after full warm up. Never missed oil changes. I traded it in and got 6k for it. Would have been at least 10k to repair. Other than that great ride and no problems to that point.
That was another reason I got rid of it. Needing an SUV and future repairs potentially breaking the bank were the main reasons. Kind of painful though, because nothing was wrong when I sold it. That cat is expensive to repair unfortunately! That’s one thing I forgot to mention as well, the startup got a little noisy after I owned it for a while. After a few minutes it went back to quiet. What did you trade into?
I stepped down to a 14 lexus gs 350 awd that I found with 29k on it 2 years ago in perfect condition. It seems that the v 6 is more reliable and easier on the budget to repair. Do miss the 380 hp and comfort. And yes that seems to be a common problem with noisy startups on the v8s

I’m not totally sure to be honest. I think the next big improvement was 2010 to be quite honest. If I found a 2008 I felt great about, I probably would have purchased it.
Great info my questions are: you bought it in 2015?? With 70kmi?? Paid $30k + $3k for the warranty then drove 50kmi in 4+ years sold in 2020 with 120kmi for $13k? Paid for oil changes and $800 spark plug issue, any other out of pocket repairs? The brake issue and control arm issues were covered under warranty? Did I get that all correct? Thanks this is very helpful!!
That’s all correct, sorry for the late reply! Although looking back at my receipts, I think I was closer to $30-$31k out the door. No other issues other than replacing tires, which you need to do on any car. So no, overall it didn’t need much!

I love mine. However, its been an expensive car to fix. The brake module is a nightmare to fix and flipping expensive. Also, expensive sensor fix issues . The ride is a 10...The v8 is ride we'll not be able to enjoy in the near future. 😏 My car can get 30 mpg on the highway. You have to drive conservatively. My back seat is that loaded. @@TannerRichieMain Big Hondas and Acuras are generally indestructible. However they have always been on the heavier side mpg wise. I love the door panels with the fabric folds though, very stylish interior, especially in the maroon color. Thank you for watching and for the comment! 👍

Hey Vince! ACTUALLY, if I could have a do over I wouldn’t go this direction. Depending on your financial situation, I’d say get one of the newish Honda accords, or another car that looks nice and stylish, but doesn’t break the bank! Nice review! I have a 2010 460L and agree with all your comments. The only other thing that goes wrong with this model are the struts! Had them replaced TWICE. Luckily, like you, we took the extended warranty and covered it. The ride and sound system are second to none! 150,000 miles and counting.
Air suspension?
Awesome!

It’s $160 to fill it up now. I just got my third one and it’s super clean. Feels like new garage kept.

When I was making this video, I was having some seller’s remorse myself...so I feel you there. Such a good car! Thanks for the comment. 👍
The brake actuator is what stopped me from buying one of these.

Probably smart! It seems like car companies usually lock down any issues during the last years of a model style.

Hi, poovaneswaran, how is the maintenance for this car? So far the air suspension or control arm give u any problem ?
@@wamboonleng6850 hi boon leng, the car is mechanically sorted, save for the perished control arm bushes and collapsed air suspension, so I decided to replace all the arm bushes with poly U bushes and swapout the air suspension to adjustable coil overs... Granted the pillowy soft ride is no more, but the car's handling is sharper and with the suspension change, the car is about 25 kg lighter thanks to the removal of the heavy air struts
Cool. Mine is 2006 ls460. Also in Malaysia. Recently spent a lot to fix...
Can you just drive into the Lexus dealership and buy the warranty off the street ?
I have a 2003 LS430 that I bought new, now 180K miles. People ask if it's new. This car is just as good as I could ever imagine. I'd get a newer LS, but I just can't see any reason to do that. If I did, I think I would be a bit disappointed. I will give it another 5 years and reevaluate.
The thumping noise from the brakes is a self check mechanism from the abs pump, this generation suffers from and pump failures but it’s a self check just to make sure it’s working 👌🏼 Modern Toyotas still do this I think it’s comical 😂
Ah yes, when the LS had more rear leg room than the ES. Those were the days.
I've never used the self park feature of my car. Too nervous
😂 Don't! LOL, it's a party trick more than anything. Fun to play with, but really doesn't work well.

The intro caught me off guard. I own a 2008 IS 250, i call it Lexi too. 😂
great video. I'm currently looking to buy an LS430 or an LS460.
Control arm issue/brake actuator issues were the biggest issues with my Dad's. The valve covers went bad at 130k, I replaced them for him, not too hard of a job tbh...
@mikeross111
To clarify, in order to not discourage potential future LS owners. It's not that the valve covers went out at 130,000 but more so not replaced at 100,000 as maintenance of that part requires.
Nice, balanced review.

That's probably the way to do it, do the work yourself! Smart! 🙌
I have a 2017 Ls460 , love it .
Looking to upgrade to the new Ls500 but will miss the V8 for sure if i do that .

And yes that seems to be a common problem with noisy startups on the v8s

bro don't get the LS460 that have the awd Unless the air suspension been converted to coils other wise your looking a 5000 to 10000 to convert the air suspension over or buy and replace the bags on it but that model have the refrigerator in it.........if you can get a newer one that you budget allow lets say a 2013 or 2011 instead of a 07
@@snider2588 got you. Thanks for the tip
I love mine. However, its been an expensive car to fix. The brake module is a nightmare to fix and flipping expensive. Also, expensive sensor fix issues . The ride is a 10...The v8 is ride we'll not be able to enjoy in the near future. 😏
My car can get 30 mpg on the highway. You have to drive conservatively. My back seat is that loaded. But no one complains about the ride...
My 2001 is300 was named lexi too...I regretted getting an audi after her 😕
Oh yeah? Was the Audi in the shop more than you were driving it? I think Audi's are SUPPOSED to be fairly reliable, but it's hard for me to pull the trigger on one.
@@TannerRichieMain Audis are well known to be unreliable!
Its engine is 4.6L V8 but it uses gas LESS than the 3.7L V6 Acura MDX 2008.
Seriously?! Hot dayum! It got better gas mileage than my girlfriend’s 4 cylinder Saturn Ion! I know that much. 😂
@@TannerRichieMain Big Hondas and Acuras are generally indestructible. However they have always been on the heavier side mpg wise. I think they go for tried and trusted engine designs that are super reliable if a little more juicy. Lexus are fantastic overall though. They never really caught on in the UK but those of us who own them (GS250 here) fully appreciate their qualities. Most go for German brands which just aren't reliable these days.
Can you switch out the radio for something with Apple CarPlay?
Very nice Lexy ;) I have one question about the gearbox is there have any problems? And which gearbox is more durable, this in ls460 or this in ls600h cvt ? Thanks.
It's an 8-spd auto and is known to go 300k miles
I'm debating on buying an LS460 with 150k miles for 8500. I work at a lexus dealer too but I know how expensive these are to maintain.
I’m having that same brake noise it pisses me off
