Sun Wu. What is the difference between the DT MK2 and an Octatrack. Im not seeing much difference apart from the slider. So where does this put the Octatrack?
Well, since there is no official confirmation I can't really say. But I guess features like live-looping won't be available on the Digitakt 2. I am quite sure there will still be significant differences, so in some areas the DT will be better and in some the OT will be better.
Additional of insert effects is nice, but of the 4 insertn FX, 3 are not new. We already had sample rate reduction, bit reduction, and overdrive. Chorus is nice tho b😅
I’m super happy with the upgrades, and will jump on the presale. Would love to see some additional effects added, slicing mode. I hope the 16 levels-trig modifiers get developed a bit more beyond what is on the Syntakt (and maybe the rising tide will lift all boats, and those will be more flushed out.) I honestly didn’t believe the rumors until today. $1000 is more than fair, considering that’s $50USD more than the sticker price of an MK1 in 2024. Great video as always, Son.
hmmm…I think they are different in how they operate. However, if I was in your shoes, I'd probably return it if you still have the chance. But it really depends on your needs and preferred workflow. They are veeeery different.
If this is true I will consume the digitakt mk2 alive beneath the blood moon!!! My enemies will fall beneath the mk2! (That means I'm extremely interested in buying it, as I don't own the original digitakt, but have always wanted it and just felt like it was missing a few features that this seems to have. You know, in case you don't speak "insane person")
Oh yeah speaking of the 16 step velocity, this has trig modes now, so not only velocity but it’s like on the octatrack where you can trigger different sounds or sampler per trig once you’re out of grid mode Which gives you the ability to record in your sound locks per track live Oh wow, I didn’t consider what performance mode meant. That’s huge
This seems to be an octatrack lite? I think I'll stick with the OG and use the OTmk2 if I need expanded sampling in my Elektron ecosystem. I'm going to get a DT2, but not for a while
@@SONWU it's missing a cross fader and a few other key hardware features but you could easily see the intersection between the two devices more prominently now.
@@anonymous_friend I’m more likely to just spend my money on kit that meets my expectations. Love the Elektron sequencer but the rest I can take or leave these days.
Stereo and 128 steps alone is huge for me. No time stretch yet, that would be amazing. I thought you could shop samples already with new firmware? I sold mine a while ago now.
Octatrack II would be even better, that's true… But I think this one my be a good go-to sampler nonetheless. (If they implement proper slicing) I really like the addition of 16-Levels features, this bodes well!
Sounds amazing but doesn’t address my biggest gripe, which is lack of proper slicing. Slice grid can yield some interesting results but more often than not, I want the slicing where they I want the slices. I also want it to be paraphonic (ideally poly), I don’t want my samples cutting off on the retrig. It should allow them to play through while triggering it again. 20gb is great but just put a card slot there, like why?!
Had a conversation with my toys last night. I was advised that they can make noises and I am just lusting. They did say I could look into a used D1 if the price is right.

This all looks cool and all, but aren’t more than half of these features achievable through a kick ass os upgrade? Such as the fx, Euclidian, lfos effects. Tracks. All besides the stereo samples and additional storage.
Sure, a lot of them would be. Although they would probably need more button combos, as this one has a few extra buttons. (Might make things a bit untidy)
Most likely, the MK1 will get nearly all of these new features, except for hardware-based upgrades like stereo sampling, up to 16 channels of sampling, and memory. That’s how it’s always been for the OT and A4 mk1/2.
@@robertgarvansnyder4665 honestly the only hw feature I see here id want is the memory expansion. I really can care less for st sampling as for that I use my trusty OTmk2. I’d love to acquire most of them sw features though through a nice os update. ;)
@@robertgarvansnyder4665 You can make just as good music without those features. I can't understand why so many people are going to spend so much money to upgrade. I can understand people who don't have any device with stereo sampling and/or need a lot of memory for live performance, but I think a lot of people are trapped in the consumerist mentality of needing the latest shiny new thing. Anyway, I'm sticking with my MKI.
In my mind the big difference is the ability to sequence that many external synths simultaneously, which the 404 can't do at all. The 404 is better as a stand-alone sampler in many ways, although the upgrades here bring Digitakt closer to it (but still not the same). DTII and 404MKII together would be an insane combo.
If you are already used to the SP404, it might not be enough. But the interface of the Digitakt + Overbridge is very different and the sequencer more obvious. Also the MIDI integration seems a lot better.
@@TJ-rf1xl I like the more tracks for complex drums and more sample tracks but I personally wouldn’t use it to control other gear, I like to work in the box even though I have many drum machines,samplers,grooveboxes but I do get some like to. I think 🤔 the euclidian sequencer is a nice addition and the sample kit feature from the 🥁 drummachine line will be cool 😎. Stereo sampling is overrated to me maybe for some pads or something but panning works just fine, and I wonder how fleshed out sample editing will be. It definitely needed more memory but no sd kinda a bummer but it should have pretty good memory and that was the biggest complaint of ver 1 although limits breed creativity sometimes.
@@SONWU yes I hear overbridge is nice I just don’t bring tracks into a daw often I always just make them dawless and that’s good enough for me but I definitely am interested and good point about the sequencer and the electron trigs motion recording etc loved the sequencing on the model cycles 🔁

Well, since there is no official confirmation I can't really say.

I can't help but think that 16 Levels is there because of Ricky Tinez…he's always been using it on the MPC too.

Seems great but compared to my sp 404 mkII not sure what it brings to the table and I like having a sd card slot
