I’m a MK1 junkie, and honestly I actually don’t feel the need to change to the MK2. Over the years I’ve acquired enough stuff that addresses the biggest upgrades of the new unit (e.g, using my mk1 with an Octatrack and OXi One). It a great device for anyone in the market for a Digitakt, and the MK1 did need upgrading, but I can’t justify throwing away a grand just to have the ‘new’ one when the ‘old’ one is still doing me so well 🤷♂️
Yep..... people are going to like your music no matter what you use as long as it's good music :) . Save that money and put it towards a Moog One .... lol
@edoksc 0 secondi fa Your external mixer works good or u have issues with it too? mine still have problems on the right channel after the 1.01a update and when i playback the sequence or change pattern the volume it mute till i touch the externalmixer volume encoder, do u have the same issue?
In general, Bad Gear episodes are the best way to get a quick overview and intro to a product. Pros & Cons, fun Memes, fantastic music that really show how the instrument can shine in production and fun stories. Big LIKE!! Thank you
What do you call a SimplTrek that can't be battery powered, is bigger, heavier, has less storage, and costs twice as much made by Elektron? Digitakt II obviously. Oh? the DTII has overbridge? That's nice. I can control most of the SimplTrek using MIDI and still add external IO audio with USB compliant audio... Now how often do Elektron owners USE overbridge? Also, I have another check mark for my bucketlist... I THINK one of my comments is on the wall of comments at 5:51. My life is now complete.
Once again another great episode! The addition of stereo and another 19 GB is nice, the new compressor functionality is really nice. However multiple outs is the feature I would have most wanted in the D2.
For me and my workflow the only thing missing in the original D1 was a chorus. With that addressed in the D2 it now becomes a more "complete" box for any task. Drums, beats, synth and sound design as well a scratch pad for ideas or to create complete songs. I for one love that fact that Elektron is making small refining updates rather than screwing up an already great piece of gear. If it ain't broken, don't fix it. Given how Elektron treats their products lifecycles I bet the D1 is now in line for a major fw update to give it most of the D2 functionality, except stereo tracks of course. It will come after the D2 news has settled down.
@@AudioPilz it's the same grid slicing that's available on my OG DT. No excuse, manual chopping has been on samplers since the 80s. It's ridiculous for $1,000 sampler not to have it in 2024. You can have that feature in any other box at any other price point. I'll stick with my OG DT and Octatrack MK2. 🙃
I’d say the lack of polyphony is even more insulting in this day and age. . A $10 ARM A9 SOC from 2007 can handle massive polyphony + high track counts, as seen in the Synthstrom Deluge. Digitakt 2 is sticking with the same underpowered 200mhz SOC from Digitakt 1, plus a Sharc DSP chip for audio, which lacks the power of comparatively priced general purpose ARM chips. Digitakt 1 and 2 are such wonderful, brilliantly designed machines otherwise, but I don’t get why Elektron would tie their arms behind their back with obsolete technology. It could be so much more with a little extra oomph under the hood.
@@AdamsOlympia I was unaware that this new machine doesn't have an updated processor! Holy cow, that's awful. Agree about polyphony, too. They released the same chipset from DT1 in 2024 and charged 1,000 for it?!?!! Nasty work
Yeah I had a hunch this bad boy would end up here. Lotta seemingly redundant crap releasing these past few months, granted that seems to just be electronic instruments in a nutshell tbh lmao. Great content as always!
thank you for mentioning lack of polyphony manual slicing and dated midi sequencer.. If they fix these in a firmware I will buy one for sure. Midi arp would be very nice as well
Can I be biased and hate it anyway due to it being Elektron, overpriced and under-spec’d compared to most Akai, Emu, Roland, and Yamaha samplers from last century? If I wanted this much disappointment I’d go mountain climbing in the Netherlands.
Late to the party, what do you think of it terms of abilities compared to say maschine or push 3? I know people rave about elektron but can it do more sound design and have more features than the 2 mentioned or is it more limited? Btw love your content!
@@AudioPilz My comment was mean and I apologize. These are charming boxes but it's hard to justify the price tag when compared to the perpetually underrated modern MPCs. I also wish the MPCs had the parameter locks because its a really fun and powerful feature.
Yeah, that's a software thing. Elektron sequencers seem to be based on sequences with note events that define everything else (from what sound source to use to what effects and parameters for everything). Most stuff defines all of that info on the track, and the sequence just contains basic midi note events and automation on every track. Although, if the sequencer is properly abstracted to implement midi with program change, you get "parameter lock". It's more like freezing automation to a sequence step instead of letting it vary with every clock tick. Novation also pulled it off with the og Circuit, I'm pretty sure you can do the same thing on some old Yamaha boxes, but Elektron made it popular as a workflow because they let you change almost everything in the box for every step. We should be asking grooveboxes/samplers to work like this, by now. Akai software has always, always sucked.
Nice I’m glad you got one. You deserve it. We didn’t get the outputs but got everything else. I can’t see why they can’t firmware add that sidechain to mk1 down the road.
Honestly seems like a perfect sampler and I don’t really see how people can fault it. I previously avoided one because of the overlap with my analog rytm mk2, but now it’s making my octatrack a little nervous.
@AudioPilz Grüße Florian. Hast du mal den Casio xw-p1 unter den Finger gehabt (von2012) Ich hab den hier und denke mir oft, das der Synthesizer völlig unterschätzt wird, leider keine Phase Distortion synthese.

Does the Digitakt 2 differ in hardware to version1, besides more memory and one more button (Kb setup)? Seems to me to be a firmware update first and foremost that Elektron choose to sell exclusively in a new machine rather than either giving och selling it to existing Digitakt users. Could these new features, or most of them, not be featured in v1 via firmware update?
I am now searching for my 2week old comments trying to figure out if dyslexic mind missspelled Polyphonic in my comment saying I wouldn't replace my MkI
I really wish they'd upgrade the octatrack os to have the mute prepare. Like the Octatrack is more like the original but with some more, different buttons, metal chassis, but from my understanding from those that used the og is it wasn't that different to the original in more ways. Some choices aren't just "I can see why you did that, but it sucks" but "why is this like this?" Like a quick sample mode would be nice or maybe give the sample, reverb and echo tails. They just cut off. I don't know, Elektron seems to make even their most ardent cult members want to sell their octatracks and feel a constant sense of conflict. Or maybe that's just me. Cause I make fun shit on it, but I'm just awful at it.
So, it’s just gone from monophonic mono-channel, to now monophonic stereo channels … ? And now has slightly better sampling and sample editing capability? And some new sample playback features?
I know it's easy to dunk on Korg, but want to do one on the Korg SQ64 sequencer next? It's a sequencer with surprisingly capable hardware let down by its software, as is par for course with Korg.
He mentioned he did one on the Dreadbox Typhon, has that been published? I can see the Nymphes video but not on the Typhoon. I only ask because it's the one of two last pieces of gear I own that hasn't been reviewed and obliterated on this channel :)
I bought a new Digitakt MK1 in January because I figure that any used equipment would be beaten up pretty bad since it’s a 14 year old machine. Feels pretty bad that I didn’t wait a few more months for this release. Oh well.
I think this was definitely a drift into good gear. Now that you mention it I have seen a few Digitakts for sale online. Also, I should have known all along that Alex Ball was one of the vintage Gods.
At first glance, the Elektron Digitakt II is ticking all the boxes. An interface that looks as musical as a 1980s business machine. Buttons that are louder than a cheap typewriter. When you take it out of the box, it smells like the kind of volatile organic compounds you get in a cheap tin of paint. Unscrew the box and you’ll find plenty of empty space under the bonnet to accommodate a school sandwich, a box of nuts, two apples and a yoghurt tube. How does it sound? Plug it in, and nothing happens. To make it work you need to read an instruction manual the length of John Holmes’s trouser snake, and when you’ve finished, it’s time to consider whether the price and the effort was worth it. “I had digital noise/cracking in the right output channel with active input” "Errors occur and the Digitakt's file system breaks down and it becomes increasingly difficult to use” “It freezes spontaneously and data is increasingly corrupted” “Transposing is still a pain and there is no arpeggiator” “There is still no CV connectivity” “But 1000 euros?” “Very slow transfer. No data transfer media slot.” “I sent mine back”

Have a nice weekend too!!! Thank you so much!!!
I’m a MK1 junkie, and honestly I actually don’t feel the need to change to the MK2. Over the years I’ve acquired enough stuff that addresses the biggest upgrades of the new unit (e.g, using my mk1 with an Octatrack and OXi One). It a great device for anyone in the market for a Digitakt, and the MK1 did need upgrading, but I can’t justify throwing away a grand just to have the ‘new’ one when the ‘old’ one is still doing me so well 🤷♂️
I feel you!!!
Yep..... people are going to like your music no matter what you use as long as it's good music :) . Save that money and put it towards a Moog One .... lol
I thought I'd be waiting much longer for this video. You're good.
Thank you!!!
Alright there is no turning back now. Access Virus video!!! :)

Your external mixer works good or u have issues with it too? mine still have problems on the right channel after the 1.01a update and when i playback the sequence or change pattern the volume it mute till i touch the externalmixer volume encoder, do u have the same issue?
🤔
So, has it caught up to the specs of 1993's Akai MPC3000 yet?! The theory of Devo-loution PROVED!!
Hey, that's quite a challenge;)
In general, Bad Gear episodes are the best way to get a quick overview and intro to a product. Pros & Cons, fun Memes, fantastic music that really show how the instrument can shine in production and fun stories. Big LIKE!! Thank you
Thank you so much!!!
Lol, shots fired;) Thanks for the comment!!!
You put soo much effort in those Clips I'm amazed.❤
Thank you so much!!!
This as close to a Mangum Opus on Bad Gear as we'll get.
Thank you so much!!!
Once again another great episode! The addition of stereo and another 19 GB is nice, the new compressor functionality is really nice. However multiple outs is the feature I would have most wanted in the D2.
Same here!!!
That's ok you can use Overb ... oh.
I'd rather go through medical school than trying to understand the Digitakt!
😂😂😂
Law school for next level.
I went through med school and digitakt is harder
Wow it is TRULY bizarre to see Digitakt get features from SQ64 (ie Euclidean sequencing) rather than the other way round for once XD
Lol, shots fired;)
The screen is still at the same low low resolution just in a different color... It's 2024 already.
The Elektron way;)
It's OLED everyone wants oled
Are Canon still using LCD displays?
Good.
It looks nice, but I'm really sold on that Bat-PWM Controller. There will be no peace in my life until I find one.
I want it too!!!
The chorus is indeed awesome!

No sample chopping in 2024 on a 1,000USD sampler is nasty work.
It’s there, just a bit basic
Thank you!!!
still one output for a $1,000 sampler.
Yeah, that's a real limitation
@@AudioPilz main reason I still have my octatrack mk1.the same with the digitone how can anyone enjoy a fm synthesis experience on one output.
thank you for mentioning lack of polyphony manual slicing and dated midi sequencer..
Nice analogy!!!
Late to the party, what do you think of it terms of abilities compared to say maschine or push 3? I know people rave about elektron but can it do more sound design and have more features than the 2 mentioned or is it more limited? Btw love your content!
If Akai put parameter lock automation in the modern MPCs, there would be no more need for the Digitaks.
There's some truth to that
@@AudioPilz My comment was mean and I apologize.
Akai software has always, always sucked.
and yet akai's mpc one+ isn't even really an upgrade, so its sort of moot. maybe if they had made an actual effort on the one+ it would matter.
@@randommcranderson5155 Save up for the MPC Live 2
Please don’t turn into a marketing channel
Let him cook.
No worries
@@AudioPilz dont let people tell you how to make your money. If you were to market your genuine fan base would understand. Do you.
Actually i love the fact that it is possible to sync loops and have different banks of samples. It makes it more live friendly.
Glad I bought a 1010music Blackbox. 😄
I've got a 1010 Music BlackBox. And I just bought a Digitakt II. Am I the drama?! 😂
Nice I’m glad you got one. You deserve it. We didn’t get the outputs but got everything else. I can’t see why they can’t firmware add that sidechain to mk1 down the road.
😀😀😀 Agreed on the outputs!
My comment made it in the hate section! My mom will be proud!
Nice!!! Thank you so much!!!
Other manufacturers take note!
Its great that Elektron sent you one - I hope this becomes a trend among synth manufacturers!
Agreed!!! Big shoutout to Polyend too
Did you say 1000$, I officially hate elektron now
Still cheaper than an OP-1 Field;)
the og was only like $150 less lol

It’s one thing to raise the price, it’s another to raise the price and then run a “sale” at its original price xD
Honestly seems like a perfect sampler and I don’t really see how people can fault it. I previously avoided one because of the overlap with my analog rytm mk2, but now it’s making my octatrack a little nervous.
They really included quite a few improvements!
I guess that expands the number of grasshopper species in Austria with the Digitakt II Trap Mode Grasshopper. Rarely seen, hopefully not often heard.

Not yet but working on it!
Nice!
I’m still happy with my MPC Live Gen1, but your jams are always incredible.
If anything I might downsize lol.
Great episode as always!
Thank you!!!
Top notch jams as usual. Maybe the time for me to finally dip my toes in elektron waters, with a now affordable digitakt og.
Thank you!!! Definitely worth a shot!
Feel free to remove Song Mode from the Digitakt I to squeeze in that Euclidean Sequencer
This!
Hell yeah!
hi can I make a complete track with this machine.without.needing anything else?
Absolutely, it’s not the most straightforward experience tho
@AudioPilz
Grüße Florian.
Hast du mal den Casio xw-p1 unter den Finger gehabt (von2012)
Ich hab den hier und denke mir oft, das der Synthesizer völlig unterschätzt wird, leider keine Phase Distortion synthese.
That would be an amazing Bad Gear episode!
Geiler Vorschlag, danke!!!

Thank you so much!!!
@AudioPilz Hey Florian, is the new Trig Mode called Retrigs always on the beat or is it free running ? on the AR2, its free running and not always on the beat unfortunately. Im missing the Repeat Note function of the MPCs which is always quantized
Didn’t manage to get it unquantized here
@@AudioPilz thank you for the feedback. I asked different places no one could tell me lol so cheers ! apparently there is still no direct pattern jump... also a great feature of the MPCs
Afaik MK1 is pretty maxed out
I am now searching for my 2week old comments trying to figure out if dyslexic mind missspelled Polyphonic in my comment saying I wouldn't replace my MkI
🤔🤔🤔
The Octa is still an arcane artifact to me
So, it’s just gone from monophonic mono-channel, to now monophonic stereo channels … ? And now has slightly better sampling and sample editing capability? And some new sample playback features?
Don't forget about the revamped filter;)
I’ve reduced my synth count quite a bit but I still own a Virus B , Novation Drumstaton, and a Typhon so low hate count is not a surprise 😊
Nice setup;)
The Cenk meme really got me hard "Hocus Pocus you're brocus" 😂
I know it's easy to dunk on Korg, but want to do one on the Korg SQ64 sequencer next? It's a sequencer with surprisingly capable hardware let down by its software, as is par for course with Korg.
Great idea, thanks!!!
Does it have any sync problems with midi clock?
I had a few hiccups, yes
He mentioned he did one on the Dreadbox Typhon, has that been published? I can see the Nymphes video but not on the Typhoon. I only ask because it's the one of two last pieces of gear I own that hasn't been reviewed and obliterated on this channel :)
No, Typhon is safe;) Not ticking all the boxes...
Damn, you are slick. The SUBSCRIBE heading on the display. Lol Nice Pilz. 😅
Thank you!!!
Once again very well done. Thank you, your videos are really funny and still very interesting. Quite unique!
Thank you so much!!!
I bought a new Digitakt MK1 in January because I figure that any used equipment would be beaten up pretty bad since it’s a 14 year old machine. Feels pretty bad that I didn’t wait a few more months for this release. Oh well.
Isn’t it more like 7 years?
Another great episode. Nice idea for the finale!
Thank you so much!!!
I think this was definitely a drift into good gear. Now that you mention it I have seen a few Digitakts for sale online.
Also, I should have known all along that Alex Ball was one of the vintage Gods.
He is THE Vintage God!!!

Great episode! I have a stupid question though. How does it work without any synths? Where do you get the source sounds from?
Thanks!!! You just load up a few samples and it has a very synth-like architecture for sample-based patches
If you were to design an elektron product, what would you make?
MemeTakt
Did anyone else notice the water level changes in the drinking glass on the bookshelf? Is it weird I notice things like that?
Well, I drink it;)
At first glance, the Elektron Digitakt II is ticking all the boxes.
“I had digital noise/cracking in the right output channel with active input”
"Errors occur and the Digitakt's file system breaks down and it becomes increasingly difficult to use”
“It freezes spontaneously and data is increasingly corrupted”
“Transposing is still a pain and there is no arpeggiator”
“There is still no CV connectivity”
“But 1000 euros?”
“Very slow transfer. No data transfer media slot.”
“I sent mine back”
Have they changed the materials for the buttons?
Not that I’m aware of
