This was an excellent video. You stayed on point, didn't drag things out, and gave a great assessment of the various types of ammo you used. I just picked mine up. Can't wait to shoot it!
Just bought a CZ457 ProVarmit as well plan to get out next thursday and put some shots down range I have it outfitted with a Timmeny trigger, area 419 30moa rail, topped with a vortex Diamond tactical 6-24×50, and Anarchy 1 piece bottom metal. Hope its a shooter like yours! Keep up the vids.
@@TheGoatMumbler was thinking the sk standard possibly shot equal to the match out of the 16" because the only difference i could find was the match is lower velocity to prevent the bullet becoming destabilized as it goes from super to subsonic. With the 16" the higher velocity standard may be closer to the velocity of the match ammo out of a 20". Just a theory
I too have a 457 pro varmint and sk standard plus is the best bang for my buck. At 50yds it’s just as good as center-x but at 100yds center-x pulls ahead. Great video!
Great video. I'm really glad you show results at both 50 and 100 yds. I'd also like to see a quick video on your process for sorting your CCI SV ammo and how you measure the weight and rim thickness.
I recognize that Range, I'm a member also, would enjoy meeting up sometime and compare notes. I just finished my Bergara b14r last week and started the ammo testing process.
@@badfinger4621 I've learned a lot since this. The most accurate 22lr is selling your 22lr, buying a center fire rifle, and learning to load your own most accurate cartridges. Your other option is to pay over $2,000 to Eley for a minimum bulk order of your lot number 22lr ammo after they test your barrelled action for ~$60. The national champions in NRL22 do this. The ammo matters much more than the rifle with 22lr.

I am taking a lot of guff over getting this rifle instead of the MTR with 20 inch barrel. My main reason was I don't want just a bench rest rifle and plan to hunt with it and possibly use some non match ammo that has better terminal balistic values - did I really f*&k up? Or do you think this rifle will hold its own as multi task?
I have seen other videos on RUclips testing 22 rimfire and barrel length. All of the videos indicated the rim fire ballistics don't gain anything major in accuracy after 16.5 inches. If anything the bullet would slow down due to friction. I know CZ usually are 20 or 24 inch barrels. Maybe some one needs to do a test with out of box CZ with 16.5 vs. a CZ 24 inch barrels and let the results decide.
Try the sk flat nose match and the sk pistol match, I have the same rifle and it likes these two the best. Also sent my barrel to 300 below and had it frozen and even though the rifle already shot great like yours, it shoots better now.
I have several CZ's and absolutely love them. I do have a question however, I've been watching several of the .17hmr videos and hardly any one is using Hornady ammo. I bought a 500rd brick to work on my shot placement (unfortunately I vibrate, I always have. I don't have the raw energy I used to, but it's still aggravating trying to get precision shots.) Anyway, why don't you use the Hornady 17GR V-MAX? I know it's a hunting round, but shouldn't it still be in consideration? Thanks, and I like your new rifle....Badass.
Thanks a lot sir for the information, my question is, the reason that you choose CZ 457 is that 457 is the best and most accurate one among all CZ rimfire rifles?? Or there is other reasons?
The CZ's have always seemed to be pretty accurate rifles in that price point once you find the ammo it likes. The fit & finish is also superior to others in that range too IMO. They have more models to choose from to suit just about any need which makes a huge difference.
I have the CZ 457 ultimate trainer Manners stock and shoots best hands down with SK standard plus half MOA all day no need to season the barrel I don’t clean between brands the rifle just shoots buy the way it has 24” barrel Yodave spring 1.5 pounds
If you can get it try RWS Target Rifle. I shoot it through my CZ455 and my Browning T-Bolt and it performs exceptionally well. So well that I use nothing else anymore. Rabbits out to 100 yards are all headshots.
Why do people suppress a 22 caliber cartridge rifle? There is not much to them, they have little bang hearing protection is all that is needed I would think. I watched a video X-Ring started using his 22 caliber cartridge rifle suppressed was told degrades accuracy. Proven.

Great video, enjoyable and informative. Thank you sir.
Was watching this at 3am and ordered one after watching haha. I like that its a little more compact and you don't seem to loose much accuracy wise.
They are very close. Looking at my data the 20" shot a tad tighter but that was not a back to back comparison on the same day in the same conditions.

Well done! Nice to see a fine review with lots of information. Ya gotta love Brno/CZ's
Tks for posting the video. It just confirm my results with the ammo i have tried. Some at 100 yards ( SK) i had the same numbers.
@TheGoatMumbler I like your videos, finally someone who uses decent ammo to test a rifle instead of bulk pack junk, well done.
Great Vid, you should be able to shoot the SK and the Lapua back to back since they are the same manufacturer and use the same lube as well
Got one on order can’t wait.
My Cz 457 16.5 inch barrel loves the SK standard plus.

Yes! I too would like to see how you go about that.
There are several videos and forum posts that swear sorting doesn't make a difference.
SK standard in mine is fantastic.
At 5:31 you mention "cleaning between the barrels". What does that entail? Do you clean the barrel every time before you shoot new ammunition?
Good video and information.

hello, you mentioned Brake Parts Cleaner.... Is that just the can you get at the Auto parts store? thanks for your videos.....
If you had to, how would you rank accuracy comparing the T1X, Varmint, and Pro Varmint?
Well?

This CZ vs the tikka what would you pick?
Im in dfw.... And i just bought one of these. What range is that?
Great Review
@TheGoatMumbler So you prefer this rifle over the Tikka t1x for NRL22? I imagine you're shooting base class?
If you have to choose between CZ 457 pro varmint and Tikka T1X for accuracy, which one would you advice?
Have you ever shot CCI Mini Mag 22LR Target 40 gr 1235 FPS thru your CZ's. My CZ457 really likes it .

From what I seen these pro varmint rifles are very accurate. Plus, you could also add an MTR or aftermarket barrel later if you feel the need.
@@belt1974123 so happy with the rifle even a year later. It's a joy to shoot! AND VERY accurate 👌

What is the benefits of "freezing" it?
Im torn between this or a Royal.
I would like to see a 457 Lite in .22 mag weighing in a 5.5lbs. Maybe a carbon shrouded barrel.
I’m looking for NRL22 type shooters what range is this?
Try the Federal Gold Medal Match.
Can't you get it with a shorter barrel? Like maybe 3 or 4 inches.? That barrel is too long.

Hi TheGoatMumbler,
How much was your bullet drop in inches going from 50 to a 100 yards?
What's the overall length on this thing?
Is the trigger guard plastic or metal??
It's metal.
VERYGOOD
my next rifle....
Do you know of any NRL 22 matches in the Dallas area I’m in the Plano area
North Texas 22 Club in Valley View has matches.

What is RDS in your comments ? Thank you
Have you played with the action screw torque settings?
My pro varmint showed no preference for action screw torque. My 457 American is 24 in. Lbs. for both screws.
CLEAN IT?? I just change the barrel after 1,000 rounds.
