Hi Tyler! Appreciate you making this video, it's well done! I upgraded all of my older CZ .22lr rifles to the 457 after picking up a CZ American 457 .17 HMR and finding that for me, it was the perfect action and over-all rifle design. I field shoot and informally target shoot year round, to keep in shape and good form and these rifles are great for that.
My most used 22 rifle is a CZ Royal that I equipped with a Vortex Tactical 4-12x scope on a Area 419 30moa rail. I shoot CCI Velocitors in it for field and long distance, but it will shoot like a target rifle when I switch to target grade ammo! It's one of the most accurate sporter 22 rifles that I have seen and does give my MTR a run using the right ammo! That MTR shoots an average group of .719 at 100 yards, so the Royal is earning its keep.
I have a CZ Trainer that I'm glad I picked up, since CZ isn't making this basic model now in 2022. I leave it open sighted for old times sake... It is another very accurate rifle. The American in 17 HMR will often put three shots well inside a dime at 100 yards, and generally shoots extremely well for a sporter.
There are a lot of real good 22 rifles around these days that shoot very well. I like CZ because they are an all around great, traditional style rifle and they provide reliable, accurate service.
Alll I read was blah blah blah cz and no body cares
Interesting thinking of picking one of these all in one 16 or 20 for 50 yrd Accuracy. What would you recomend🤔
@@nopro5433 Will the majority of your shooting with this new rifle be from a bench? If so, you may wish to consider the CZ 457 MTR. If not, you might look at the CZ 457 Varmint in .22lr. It will perform well in the field or on the bench!
@@nopro5433 The CZ MTR has a Match chamber. For 50 - 100 yard shooting and beyond, it's a hard rifle to beat!
@@rt66rc86 Appreciate Thank you At first thought was Fugly as Hec More Vids I see Look Kind of grows on you Think going to bite the bullet and pick one up looks like only 20” on this model.👍🏻🇺🇸🎯
There have been tests of the effects of barrel length on accuracy using 1000s of rounds with different ammo. 16 inch and 24 inch barrels were compared on the same gun. The result was that the longer barrel provided more consistent accuracy, at the price of about 50 fps in muzzle velocity. Generally testers do a poor job of explaining this, but from a physics perspective, I am shocked no one mentions the effect of rifling. Bullets don’t immediately assume the rotation rate of the rifling, but rather “spin up” to the rifling in the bore. This takes time and a longer barrel allows more energy to be transfered into bullet rotation which is key to in-flight stability. The barrels on the 455 and 457 are, as far as I know, interchangeable, and since you are using a sled, the main difference in the two guns isn’t the cosmetics of the stock, but barrel length. To me, it appears the 457 created more tight groups, and I suspect this is strictly due to its longer barrel.
Your analogy does not make sense. Bullet needs more time to spin up, but longer barrel slows it down. Also the bullet does assume the rotation rate of the barreling straight away, except that as the bullet accelerates it's rpm increases as its velocity increases. But as you mentioned a longer barrel slowing it down, wouldn't the longer barrel be less accurate? It's impossible to compare two different barrels, crown could be different, vibration harmonics, weight of barrel, rigidity of barrel, ammunition, etc.
@@chippyjohn1 I am going to dismiss your comment as pure nonsense. To claim that a bullet achieves its rotational energy in time t=0 demonstrates total lack of understanding of basic physics. To be able to do as you claim, an infinite amount of energy would need to be available, which is clearly not true. Then, the rest if your argument is simply hand-waving.
In a .22 caliber rifle, the cross-sectional area, which accepts the pressure that accelerates the bullet is unfavorable when compared to the circumference which produces the surface area that provides the friction that slows the bullet in the barrel, so generally anything over, I believe, 18” slows the bullet. However, who says that muzzle velocity is the prime determinant in regards to accuracy?
22LR load groups in a 16 vs 20 inch barrel were indistinguishable in that same testing.. I am not disagreeing with you but adding to your comment. You get more noticeable improvement moving from 16 to 24 than you do from 16 to 20.. most hunters would opt for a short barrel / light weight but if you are bench shooting then it only makes since to go heavier and longer and tune the harmonics for your particular firearm / load.
@@oneheadlight8000 I don’t disagree. I am simply referring to statistics generated with 1000+ shots of a CZ457 with differing barrel lengths. I am a scientist. When the evidence contradicts the theory, it is typically the theory that needs “adjustment” to refine our understanding.
@@dilvishpa5776 Thank you for clarifying.. I agree with you. I am a bio mechanical engineer.. Currently working in the industrial / camera AI space though somehow haha
What is the tripod on the 457? Is it stud mounted or something else or m-lock?
It's part of the boyd stock
@@Tyler181 Is it m-lock mounted or stud mounted (the 457)?
Nice video , what bipod are you using on the 455 please?
At that time with has the Magpul bipod on it I believe. If not it's a harris
I like the looks of the 455, it's more traditional.
The 457 comes in about 11 or so stock variations. The 457 AT-ONE Varmint doesn’t use a CZ stock … it uses the Boyds AT-ONE stock which, with its adjustable for comb and length, is more a competition stock than a traditional hunting stock. You can get the same looking stock as the 455 in the 457 if you want it.
Can’t have to many CZ .22s!
YEA picked 3 cz +1 RUGER my cz love sk and res good luck
Would be nice if you stated which target you wear shooting at next
I appreciate that you provided a time link to each rifle's "wrap up".
have you noticed if the at one with longer barrel is quieter than the 455? some say longer barrel .22lr rifle will be quieter than the shorter barrel.
That's crazy accurate! What scope, and what power?
Vortex diamondback and vortex crossfire 4-12
@@Tyler181 good to know. I just picked up a Schultz and Larson made in 1937, and I need a good scope for it. With a 4 power I'm getting just under 1/2" groups at 50.
Nhập về việt nam,được ko bạn...!
I’ll stick with my 455 Varmint even though the 457 has some nice upgrades, you just can’t beat the classic look of the 455.
I have the 457 Varmint and it shoots very well. Wolf and SK standard work well in mine.
You ever tried cci stingers? Ive had good luck with them
Yes I've got a bunch there. Not sure why I didn't use them on this test.
@@Tyler181 do stingers chamber ok in the 457 AT match chamber?
@@Tyler181 DON`T EVER put CCI stingers in a CZ rimfire rifle! The CCI stinger cases are longer! NOT good for the chamber and throat!
Stingers will shoot all over the place like a mad woman’s shit!
I guess what worries me is that first shot being a flyer. I wouldnt like that for a rifle im gonna hunt with..
Barrel problem.
Apples and oranges.
Cz455 at-one v’s cz457 at-one is a true comparison.
What’s with ELI ?
The top one is the 455? That's the one I like cause it looks more conventional, that said, I'd.keep them both. Don't get rid of either, just add more.
The one with the wood stock (darker) is the 455. The one with the wood laminated stock is the 457. Different safety locations/operations as well.
Once again, looks like everybody's CZ's do the same as mine...first shot, cold bore is a whoop de doo, could be anywhere. I've had them go as far off as 6 inches.
Once that first shot is gone, it's right on to tackdriving.
same here
My Savage Mark II BV (bull barrel) does the same, usually about 2-3"
Not fun tho if you wanna hunt with it..
Problem with this platform is constant lack of magazine availability for CZ 452/455/457 rifles. This issue has been ongoing for years. When they are in stock, they can be $50 plus. Guys have been paying $70-$100 each, so a handful of mags can cost more than the rifle. Get it together, CZ.
New to CZ 457 MTR varmit. Love so far .just wish mine was threaded barrel
Just buy a threaded barrel for it and swap. They’re made to swap barrels easy.
@@chevyon37s That’s what I was thinking. Took 4 months just finding 10 round magazines for it. Different barrel may be next.
@@chevyon37s why do you want a threaded barrel? For silencer?
I liked the 455
Holee crap i can't believe how many small groups those things are shooting with so varied a bunch of ammo. And shot right over the previous groups too.
I been told you have to shoot at least 5 of a new brand before you shoot for groups. Very good outing there. I have three C Zeds meself but
they are more finicky.
What does at 1 mean. It makes no sense
That`s just the model name that Boyd`s chose to name it.
Take 5 Practice Shots To Heat Up The Barrel, Then Shoot Ur Groups, For Best Results...
The 457 is cheaper to produce. That's the difference. Have 3 455s and one 457.
😁😁😁👍👍👍verygood
50yds that's disappointing
Yup, i agree. My CZ`s group far better at 100yds than this, compared to what i see, here, with his at 50 yards.
.22's Are For 50yds & Less, .17 HMR Are For 50yds To 100yds...
B
CZ 453 is still better. Also it is CZ, not CZEE. No ee's on the name!
You should learn to shoot without that lead sled.
Pretty much meaningless "test".
Oh?
Agreed
Yup, pretty much. All i saw was bad shooting skills.
Looking forward to seeing your YT rimfire test.
