There are variety of choices in 18650 battery made in china. The 18650 is not a consumer standard, the channel that reaches consumer is chaos and mostly illegal (some are disqualified waste from factory, some are disassembly from electric waste). The reliable way to get those is to place order in batches to qualified factory or get them from disassembling qulaity yet cheap power bank like XiaoMi.

I recently was inspired to do my own tests. I found the same results. The Japanese batteries were 10 years old, salvaged from old laptops. After two weeks of testing, they all tested the same and within 80%+ of their stated capacity. The newer Chinese batteries gave me as little as 10% of the rated capacity.
Thanks for sharing.

I'm using an EFest 18650 battery in my vape mod which works fine, lasts me about a day of normal vaping using a 0.6 Ohm load. Tried several different Samsung blue and green batteries and they weren't any better. It depends on the application, including load and amperage draw.

I would like a hammer test on these. I work in electronics recycling and these 18650 batteries starts like 99% of fires at our factory. I would like to know if some are more prone to bursting in to flames when mangled than others or if it is just dependent on their charge state.
If you do test it, do it outside on a windy day, the smoke is definitely not good for you. Also, don't use water to put it out or have a source of it nearby, it not only worsens the fire but it also creates more of the very poisonous hydrogen fluoride gas that is generated by the burning of lithium hexafluorophosphate.
@@Ormagoden94 What? The batteries in vape pens are usually lithium polymer, they aren't nearly as bad as 18650. Also, did they get killed by poisoning? There's no way the explosion from a small lithium polymer battery could kill someone unless they held it pressed right next to an artery or something.
Or was there a time and place that 18650 was common in vape pens? Those would be a serious hazard and I could see that being able to kill someone.
@@skitidet4302 There are a lot of bigger vape machines that use 2x 18650 batteries. You need those if you want to do up to 200 W sub-ohm vaping (meaning the coil has as little as 0.1 ohm resistance). They are more fun than the pens because they can produce a huge amount of vapor, but they fell a little out of favor because only massive douchebags used them in public spaces. They can basically be turned into fog generators with the right liquid.
On the other hand, these are not a danger at all if you buy good 18650 cells like the Murata (former Sony) VTC5 or VTC6 and if you are a little careful with the cells. Put some additional shrink-wrap over them to prevent exposed metal, only transport them in silicon "socks" or battery boxes, and only use good, reliable charging devices.
I've been using them at home for many years and never had a problem nor have I ever been worried. I mean, I used to do some rc model drone flying. Those high-amp drone LiPos can give you the creeps. But brand-name high-quality 18650s? No, they're fine. (I never crush them or hit them with hammers)

@Lics Norgi Okay, lets see how well you do using a foreign language that you have no or limited knowledge of; and on top of that, lets make that foreign language use an entirely different written system, as using a common alphabet isn't comparable from going from Chinese to English. You can't really complain about someone else's use of a language when you clearly don't fully understand the language itself, try teaching yourself some grammar, so you can actually look literate. Things such as capitalizing 'Chinese,' putting an apostrophe in 'can't,' maybe try adding a comma after 'dumb' as well, you might also want to add 'people' after 'Chinese.' Also, when using, "... craps," do you mean to use 'pieces of crap'? Not to mention the, "... fake...,' part of that statement is outright false, what makes them fake? They're an _alternative_ product; if they were fake they just wouldn't work, at all, like a dummy place holder. If you don't understand what an alternative product is, look at name brands and generic brands that offer the same product. Typical hypocritical, uneducated, racist scum, it seems, as you clearly don't know what grammar is, can't form a proper statement, use proper logic, have any kind of informed opinion, and you single out a specific people when the situation could happen to any foreign people.
Please, keep your toxicity to yourself. Nobody wants to see your racist, hypocritical, uneducated, and uniformed opinions. If you feel the need to be racist, go seek help.

you don't take a random garbage brand batter in China and compare it with LG or Samsung... this is so biased. There are hundreds of decent brand batteries in China yet you choose one of the most low-quality ones...
This channel clearly does no research at all. A quick search on the website of UltraFire revealed thet the biggest 18650 battery they make is 3600mAh and weighs 93 grams.

You are welcome! Thanks for the feedback.
Not shocking at all to me. One friend of me told me main difference between Japan and China is in Japan 98% of businesses really want to make a fair deal not even thinking about any scam rest are either unintentional or intentional frauds. In China 99% of businesses are trying to exploit you or scam you (I'm not saying you cannot make a good deal but you'll have to have really thorough QC).
@@ProjectFarm You really should have included Molicel though (E-One Moli Energy Corp, Taiwan) with 0ver 40 years experience in battery technology - currently the best on the market, as tested by Battery Mooch, licenced electrical engineer and consultant on energy storage characterisation to power suppliers, broadcasters, and the US Army, among other clients.
I'm sure Molicel would be happy to supply a set of each of their high current and high capacity cells in each major format for testing.
The off brand batteries are generally batteries bought from major producers that couldn't make the cut so they will generally always never match their specs even if they seem reasonable
@Huo Yeh Damn, to think of the money I wasted on the 24 Molicel P28A batteries that I currently have in use, with their 2,800 mAh capacity and 25A continuous discharge rate, identical to the 8 lower capacity P26A 2,600mAh I still have, or the two Molicel M35As that I use in less power-hungry devices because they can only deliver 10A continuous, but have a 3,500mAh capacity- you know, the ones made in the country in which the temporarily exiled Republic of China government still holds power while the rest of their rightful territory on the mainland is occupied by the CCP genocidal terrorists.
Those made under the CCP are bound to have fraudulent markings because they can't help lying about anything. They even deny the genocides they commit in full view of even privately-owned satellites, so to ask if they also lie about battery capabilities is like asking if fleas bite - of course they do, it is in their nature.

It was so satisfying watching this video knowing that I had purchased Sony/Murata 18650's for my expensive "Toy" flashlight vs my utility/tool flashlights. And I can say the Sony/Murata's have done exactly that.

Might be interesting to test them all for that overvoltage and other protections they supposedly have...... also fireworks!
Thanks for the feedback.
You would know if they were protected. Protected 18650 cells have a clearly visible PCB on the bottom side under the wrapper with a strip of metal connecting up to the top. The off-brand cells that claim to have protection are flat-out lying.
Well, before you test the chinese batteries for over-current protection ...
You might want to perform a "Chinese Fire Drill". 😆
Non of these cells have built in protection. That is normally built into the device. There are some batteries that have built in protection but they are also just a touch longer than these standard 18650 cells. Panasonic makes some nice cells with built in protection.
You don’t need to test this just check if a pcb is present. Then test if it works. Issue is even the ones that have pcb’s they are designed poorly and don’t cut off at the right points.
Best presentation. I like that you explained it on point. Thank you very much. Subbed.

I surely was never into those 9000mAh ratings. Now I know what to buy (not that I'd buy it definitely).
Thanks for the feedback.
But then camera batteries are SO much more expensive than the Chinese knockoffs. Even when some of my batteries die several months to a year later or just can't hold a charge, it's still worth the buy simply due to numbers unless you absolutely need reliability. @@williamlee7782 Yes it totally makes sense when we aren't a regular user. They are just fine for the price. Both have their advantages.
the most important thing for these are max A and continuous A rating. its a quick way to have your batteries explode reliably pulling 35+ peak amps or 20+ continuous on anything not rated for it.
if performance isn't a concern in the particular application sure mah/hr vs dollar comes into play but if performance DOES matter the 25+ amp batteries do matter.
