This is the way a review should be presented. Thoughtful and carefully demonstrated with all instrument specifications and capabilities.
This makes the Instrument desirable and that's what a manufacturer should hope for. Very nice Mr. Koh.
Thank you Mitch!✌🤓
Thank you or your reviews Mr. Koh; I have enjoyed each and every one of them. And you have gotten me smitten with the G&L Tribute ASAT, and now, the MK Hybrid Special. And your tasteful playing is out of this world!
Glad you like them!✌♥
🎶 Oh man, I really loved all tones of this guitar. Lots of Richie Sambora/Bon Jovi sounds 😎
yes! Dead or alive!✌❤
Super, thanks for showing the jazz capabilities of this lovely guitar!!
my pleasure ✌💙
Dan really loves his Michael Kelly guitar 🎸. I have been looking myself lately. Sounds beautiful Jonathan as always ❤.
Thank you Leo!
Great looking guitar.
awesome! Missing SG also, used to work there for 10yrs. For my style of playing (church P&W) will definitely buy.
✌💙
Thank you, sir, your presentation is one of the most intelligent and relevant that I've ever seen.😎💙
Thank you ✌️❤️
Nice eraser, good morning. Enjoy your day. Nice guitar
✌❤Morning old timer!!
Very clever combination of features, practical and useful for the all round player! Nice playing (I like the quality control bits too)
Thank you!
I get used to how good you play and take it for granted...then you blow my mind again. MK has done a number of their own reviews on this guitar but none come close to this. Simply amazing. You are so professional because you make it all look so simple and second nature.
Thank you Toney! ✌❤
It’s beautiful. Sounds purdy too.
sure does!😝✌
Sounds killer..... for the price you can't beat it...... I just ordered one, thanks!.
Nice✌️❤️
Jon, you make that hybrid sound REALLY NICE!
Thank you
The beginning jam was Gorgeous my christian friend Thank You
Thank you✌️❤️
I purchased this hybrid special about a year ago. I have no regrets. I love the looks and the sounds that come from it. I play it out of a California blonde amp and if it lacks any acoustic values, The amp makes up for it. With any effects this guitar has a wide range of genres. I am planning on buying the 63 Michael Kelly for two reasons. I was born in 63’ and I love the strat style guitar and sound. I have never been able to play a strat because of my playing style knocking the volume knob constantly because it is located too close to the strings but the MK strat volume knob is located much lower away from the strings. Thank you for your review. Wonderful demonstration on the Hybrid and it’s settings. Enjoyed your playing also. Peace be with you brother.
Cool.. peace be with you too✌️❤️
Well, I ended up picking up the Michael Kelly telecaster 53. I loved the feel and the washed blue jean and the sound. I think the rose fretboard is a plus.
I came here to check out the guitar review but stayed and subscribed because of your playing! Awesome!
Thanks Jason ✌️❤️
I liked mine. May just have to buy another one. Great review as always Jon
Thank you James ✌️❤️
Thank you for this very good and comprehensive test. It is a guitar that I find superb and that I want to buy. I am also interested in this mode l: Michael Kelly Guitars 20th Anniversary Hybrid Special Natural Quilt Maple which has microphones :
Neck Pickup: Seymour Duncan SH-1 59 (Gold covered)
Bridge Pickup: Seymour Duncan SH-4 JB (Gold covered).
But the pickups of your test : bridge pickup and neck pickup : Rockfield SWC, humbucker sound very good. The Michael Kelly Guitars 20th Anniversary being more expensive in France by 284 €.
Hi Jon. I update this post. I finally bought this guitar (March 2023) in Spalted Maple Natural. Mine is made in Indonesia. I find it really very interesting. Another guitar that you tried and that I bought, thank you again for this test.
Interesting!! ✌️❤️
I'm interested in the Anniversary model also and whether its pickups have the same coil split option as the Rockfield's?
@@nazmoking3171 - Received mine today via FedEx 1-day shipping from Sam Ash, and yes there is the same split coil option which works well.
@Jonathan - Many thanks for this superb demo, it helped me decide to make the purchase, have only played it a little but performance seems very good, and of course it is stunning to look at!
i bought this guitar on a whim off of a buddy of mine, it was second hand to him. i paid $100 dollars without hearing it because it wasnt producing any sound at the time. i found a problem in the battery compartment, and solved it. i still believe im gettting only the acoustic pickups right now because when i switch the selector to the top position it makes no sound. this video was very useful and it turns out i think i made a score with this purchase. thank you very much for the video.
Send it to a luthier✌♥
Man this guitar has some great tone. Great video it seems as if in every playing demo your solos sound like melodies.
Thank you ✌️❤️
I’m jealous of you and all the guitars you get to test. Great lick as always. What a great sound you have. So calming. We need a great title to your next video to get more people watching you. Something like the best guitar I ever played. Key words like best, and greatest pop up in search engines. It’s Ridiculous you don’t have 1 million followers. Peace brother
lol!! thank you for your encouragement Josh!!
I noticed a problem with your demos, Jon. You play so well that you could make even a so-so guitar sound splendid. But thank you for that!
lol 😝
Another gem! Love both guitar and the way you played. Thx Mr Koh.
My pleasure✌️❤️
Guitar has amazing sound.
Yes it does ✌️❤️
It sounds good and your playing shows this guitar's tones well. You might want to mention there is volume for the magnetic pickups and a volume for the active acoustic pickup. The tone control is only for the magnetic pickups.
Thank you for sharing ✌️❤️
Such a gentle touch and sweet ideas for improvisation, really great playing. Plus the guitar is incredible, I think this might become the first guitar that I buy myself. Thanks for reviewing it!
Thank you✌️❤️
Love this guitar. Thank you for a fantastic review
My pleasure✌♥
I own it and almost sold it, but the reason to keep this guitar is the blend function. A few other guitars have it these days, but it's still unique.
cool!!
Incredible playing on this one!
Thank you✌️❤️
This is awesome as usual. I've been looking into this guitar more and more lately. It's very unique. Great job demoing/playing!
Thank you ✌️❤️
Amazing!!!! Like always.
Thank you!
Awesome bro sounds awesome gonna have to get one !
✌️❤️
Beauty is important, and it sounds lovely!!
thank you✌️❤️
This is one time I don't leave your review drooling cause I have this guitar. lol : } Now I don't take my acoustic to most gigs with this. Spot on review Jon
lol! ✌❤
Hi, I am curious what kind of battery life you're getting out of this guitar? Also wondering if the humbuckers still work even if the battery dies?
While I agree that the Y outputs would be nice to separate the piezo from the humbuckers into separate amps, the fact that you can blend them in the guitar itself makes that less of a priority to me.
It's about producing a stereo effect on stage with two different speakers..
So what I like about this guitar is it's ability to blend the piezo pickup with the humbuckers AND the fact they can be coil split as well so a lot of tonal variety! Sounds very nice across the board. Whenever I see a piezo based guitar with battery power, I'm always reminded of the Dean Zelinsky guitar I once owned with a similar design and the 9v battery always wore out in about 3-5 days - EVEN if I only played the guitar a couple of hours over that period and had it unplugged the rest of the time. Needless to say, I ended up selling it very quickly. So how is the battery life on this guitar Jonathan or anybody that owns one of these?? And can you use the humbuckers on this guitar even if the battery has died?
"I can make do..." while making awesome music on this axe!
✌️❤️
Gorgeous guitar 😍 I’ve had my eye in the patriot custom for Long time. They all look so stunning. It sounds like they have the pup built inside the saddles as opposed to beneath them so filing them would be potentially disastrous. That means if it needs adjusting with time that may not be possible without adjusting the floor underneath. Luthiers hate that job 😊. I had to adjust my Takemime Down 6 years ago and luckily it had a shim that was easily removed. Cheers Jon beautiful playing 😀👍❤️
Thank you Tom ✌️❤️
Can't stop watching this video with all the great tone, I want one. TABS ANYONE???? Love the Review. Keep up the great work.
Thank you . I hope you have subbed😜✌️❤️
Awsome tone absolutely beautiful sound awsome playing to .
Thank you kindly!✌🤓
Merry Christmas Jonathan Jesus is the reason for the season.
Amen Yes He is!!!✌️❤️
I think it looks and sounds great and a great price for a guitar with that many options. I want one.
✌️❤️
Your video helped MK to sell me a one of this as well , way better than their official video on this model 👍🏻
Nice✌️❤️
it started out with a video of yours about the harley benton st20hss, and i kept watching. I love your playing jon.
Thank you ✌️❤️
Love it very nice sounding. Your playing is so cool too Jonathan. Your amazing Bro. One of the better review channels. Thanks Man 😎👍👌🎸🎸💯. I'm going to check into this guitar. Just purchased a Fender strat. Have to wait lol
Thank you !✌♥
@@JonIsJustTooLoud betcha buddy 🙂🙂
Such a beautiful guitar. I have a Michael Kelly t style with splittable humbuckers.
Nice!! Bobby✌️❤️
that's a really nice sounding instrument!
✌❤
Great content big Jon!
Thank you Tim!!✌❤
Interesting that this video showed up on my feed today... I bought a 10th Anniversary version about 3 years ago. Just a few cosmetic changes from the one you played (figured burl top rather than spalted maple, gold hardware, and more colorful abalone fretboard insets). I usually play in the 'mixed' position, but I do like the option to play Boston-type songs with the mix of acoustic & humbucker all on one guitar!
✌️❤️
Always a pleasure
Thank you
Beautiful playing Mate! I’m on the fence well, I was. Time to pull the trigger , I’m just not sure of the color. May go for the natural .
Yes the natural is nice too✌️❤️
Man what a sweet guitar 👍👌💯💯
Yes it is!
Nice, mellow tones to edgy, rockin' tones. This guitar seems to have it all...
Thanks for sharing JK.
You’re welcome ✌️❤️
Thank you Mr Jon for this amazing review ! I really loved it ! I am thinking to invest in it one Day God's spare life
Glad to help
Stay Blessed
Guitar is beautiful but your playing was divine! Thank you
Thank you too!✌♥
Ha Jonathan, you crack me I can make due, Jonathan you could make due with a broom stick and sound awesome. It is very nice. God Bless
Lol✌️❤️
I picked up one of those about a year-or-so ago and love it. However, mine doesn't sound anywhere near as good as yours. Great tone in those digits man. Beautiful.
Further proof that a novice player (me) can make a nice guitar sound like crap while a well seasoned player (you) can make even the most modest/affordable guitar sound like a million bucks!
Nah... you’ll get there soon enough... don’t ever give up EJ ✌️❤️
@@JonIsJustTooLoud Been playing for 45 years. I'll never quit, but talent is a gift that not all of us are blessed with. =)
Awesomeness sounds..
Thank you ✌❤
Got mine today its great
Cool!!!
loving the reviews!
do you think you'll be able to do a piezo-equipped guitar shootout with as many different ones as possible? :D
No sorry
You play beautifully, thanks for the review, new subscriber!!!
Thank you David.. welcome to the channel!!✌️❤️
I seriously looked at this MK guitar a year ago. It is a really nice and versatile guitar but IMO doesn't live up to its 'Hybrid' label. There is not enough acoustic to use as an acoustic, and for that reason never got one. If acoustic is not important and having a wide range of non-acoustic tonal options is what you are looking for then this guitar is a good consideration for the price point. If price is no issue look at Fender Acoustasonic or Taylor T 3/5. If you still want both of best worlds at a more affordable price point look at the Yamaha silent guitar SLG200S. This is what I ended up getting and love it 100%. It has real acoustic simulation but can easily sound like a solid body with basic effect pedals (like a Keyztone Exchanger). Jon you should review Yamaha SLG200S if one becomes available to you.
Hey Shane..Guitars like this always tend to sway towards either the electric or acoustic. In this case..I guess the emphasis is on the electric side. The guitars you mentioned are more towards the acoustics...Godin has some nice ones too ✌🤓
@@JonIsJustTooLoud Have you done a review of the Yamaha SLG200?
I own one of these. I thought you did a great job reviewing the MK Hybrid. I'm very satisfied with mine. It plays well through a Marshall Stack or a Fender Acoustic Amp. Nice guitar for the money. Great neck. Came perfectly set up.
Thank you ✌️❤️
@@JonIsJustTooLoud ✌❤
That is a very beautiful guitar and compared to the classic brands at a reasonable price.
Great review thanks!
✌️❤️
Excellant review thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Sounds great with your marvelous touch. You must be touched by God. You play like there is an angel right there with you. If I could play half as good as you always do in your videos I'd feel pretty good Jk. I've been trying to grab my favorite video and make mp3's of your music but it's kind of hard and messy for me. God bless you....
Thank you brother...you stay safe✌♥
DR Strings Zebra or Rotosound Monel flatwounds, would make for better tones acoustically, without killing the electric sound. The issues will always be the G strings. A Hotone Woody will help the acoustic sound. I want to get an Ovation VXT someday, a discontinued hybrid guitar from 10 or more years ago.
I have always stayed away from F hole guitars, just not my style I guess. However, this one seems a bit different, I actually like both the sounds the looks and all the tonal options, very versatile. Nut spacing for me may be a bit wide for me but I am willing to give one a chance. Might be just what the doctor ordered. Nice review!
Thank you!✌❤
They are from this area. Named after his children. Sold in Clearwater Fl. @ Sam Ash. I was taken by them however picked up a Fender Strat.
✌❤ Thanks for the info!
Sweet...
✌️❤️
Nice review - thanks
Glad it was helpful!
I have this guitar, i love it for a particular reason: i bought it because i was looking for the ultimate versatile guitar, and i end it up finding a really ac/dc’s Malcom Young’s kind of sounding guitar......that much of a vesatile instrument it is....love it, great review 👍👍👍👍
Nice!!!✌❤
I had a similar style guitar with piezo pickup like this in the bridge but the 9v battery wore out about every 3-5 days and when it did the humbuckers went dead also. What has your experience been with the battery life in this guitar? Does it only drain when in use and, if so, any feel for the typical # of hours use of battery life?
Nazmo King in my case, the battery has last over 3 years, of course i don’t use it very oftenly, it would be hard to come down to a number but clearly 3 days is not a good number. I have an active bass that seems to have a similar problem that the one your guitar have. In this case the only advice i can give you is to check the circuit, in my case i don’t know how to do it so i’ll have to send it to a luthier.
What great playing. Sounds like there is some Larry Carlton in his past.
Oh yes... one of my heroes✌️❤️
You sir, play with class instead of cheese!! & DAMN, that's a pretty MK! I have the 1953 & love it!! Edit a month or so later... I DID love my 1953 but sold it. It was a bit heavy for me.(bad back!!) I LOVE the looks & shorter scale (24.75) of THIS guitar but... You didn't seem overly impressed. I'm trying to find THE electric for me (light weight, shorter scale, narrow nut (short fingers) to graduate from acoustic which I've been writing songs with for decades! Any suggestions from anyone would be much appreciated!!!
Thank you Dan! ✌💚
This guitar sounds and looks beautiful for what it is, maybe most have included an acoustic mic to add more bottom and resonance, and as you said, a Y output is needed. I’m on the hybrid guitar for convenience.
Hope you’ll review another guitars like this one on the future.
Thanks man.
You’re working ✌️❤️
Hey Johnathon.....this reminds me of the Graphtec ghost system with Hexpander system .you can blend acoustic saddles with your electric pickups and a synth...maybe the Variax can do something similar.....Jack Thammarat used it for a song on his RUclips page Soulful Chill Groove E Aeolian, sound was excellent, reminded me of Neal Schon Beyond the Thunder album in some respects. Jack said the acoustic sound comes from piezo bridge blended with acoustic guitar impulse response from 3 Sigma Audio with Line 6 HX-STOMP...and he talked some about the original modifications to one of his guitars in another video....sure would like to achieve that type of sound but the modifications he was talking about seemed over the top. If you ever get a chance to demo that system I am all for it....
We'll see....but i'm a simple guy. hahaha
@@JonIsJustTooLoud the parker fly guitars
these are great guitars - i snagged one in a bulk trade with a LP and a Telecaster and love it! I had watched this video before hand because I didnt know a thing about them and I must say the demo you provided certainly gave me an excellent indication of what I was getting. this is truly a must have for gigging musicians who want to travel light but need versatility.I initially expected to use this for rehersals so i could travel light but I really think this could make it to stage its that good!
Thank you for your excellent reviews and demos - and your playing/tone is always superb!
J5
Thank you.. and thanks for sharing ✌️❤️
Excelente
Gracias!!!✌️❤️
Good christian christmas tunes Sawyer Brown
Hi, I had to listen to your review again...love your tasteful and fluid style. What amp did you use with it in this video?
thanks so much, Laura
I'm using the Line 6 Helix Native with my DAW
I love my michael kelly patriot wouldnt even trade it for a gibson unless I were then to sell the gibson and buy another michael kelly and pocket the difference
✌♥
Hey, there’s the one that I was asking you about in your last video.
Lol yes!!✌️❤️
Id love to know the name of the song you played in the beginning. That Jazz was awesome
thats just me playing over a backing track ✌🤓
I have a Parker Fly with an "acoustic" pickup, it sounds very sweet, but not in an acoustic way.
Hybrid guitars are always going to be a compromise, if you can live with that, then great.
Thanks for an interesting video Jonathan.
Yes.. that’s why I kinda gave up and carry an acoustic and an electric when I tour ✌️❤️
@@JonIsJustTooLoud they sound like an acoustic plugged into an amp when you are on stage and also the mix of the two is really nice !!!
Thanks so much for the quick reply. I did forget to also ask what is the lower bout size of this guitar?
Is it larger than a les paul or a gretsch jet? Love your tasteful playing !!!
Thank you!! nope...not really✌💜
Nice❤
✌️❤️
I own the 20th anniversary special hybrid and just love the guitar. When you used the acoustic setting , how did you get such a great tone?
The video is a while back.. can’t remember but I think I treated it as an acoustic guitar with the settings ✌️❤️
Jon.. do you have any music for sale?? i could listen to you just play around on the guitar all day.. and i dont usually say that often..
Thank you Chris... but no i don’t. Although I have a SoundCloud page✌️❤️
I have a Godin LGXT AAA that does this hybrid thing. Plus it has the 13-pin port to connect to... wait for it... Roland GR guitar synths.
i know...I have a friend who have that and the Gr...nice!!
Hi Jonathan. Excellent as per normal. I know you love your G&L guitars, how does Michael Kelly guitars compare to the g&ls
very different guitars....again you are speaking to a G&L fan boy lol
Great review, beautiful playing. Is there enough acoutic volume if you want to practice and play it unplugged?
Just to sit on the porch... thanks so much!!
Nope.. you’re better off with an acoustic guitar Laura✌️❤️
really great informative video, will this play well through a Blackstar sonnet 60 acoustic amp
It should
I just got one it had a pencil tip blemish on the neck but overall a great quality guitar
Nice✌️❤️
Hi, this Guitar is a Beautyful Looking and Sound is very nice. LG Detlev
Yes it is ✌️❤️
I would probly mostly use it like an electric. If the fret work is good and the intonation is good I could certainly use it.
✌♥
Thank you for a very good review - what amp did you play acoustic sounds through?
No amps.. I was using my Line6 Helix Native plugin.. compressor/eq/reverb
@@JonIsJustTooLoud Righto, the patch had an amp sim though? Just wondering how would it sound purely through acoustic guitar amp...
Hi Jonathan love the song you played. Why don’t you put these on a little album and sell them to us ? Glory be to god the giver of all gifts I ord the last of the 20th anniversary ones for the loom and the Seymour Duncan 59 and job pickups. Does it come with a y cable ? I know rlyhat it does not come with a case
No I don’t think it does✌️❤️
@@JonIsJustTooLoud just found out that they stopped sending them with them but I will buy one. ✌️
Hello ! very nice video! i need this backing tracks! it is a private site or RUclips chanel? see you soon
google for Jam Track for guitar ..you can also find them at iTunes
so sounds like it's a good guitar but a real pain if you want to make adjustments.. like an all day job. If you wanted to use this for looping and engage the piezo, how well does the tapping pick up.. ? no one ever demos that.
