Today we check out a hybrid acoustic/electric guitar! Michael Kelly Hybrid Special: www.michaelkel... Follow me: / lucas.f.89 Support me: www.paypal.com...
GREAT review! I worked at a Sam Ash for a while, and this was one of the "secret weapons" I shared with customers. HUGE fan, and because of this video, I'm going to finally pull the trigger this week. Thanks!
This is the one I have. I bought two similar amps of the same type and power but dedicated to acoustic and the orher electric. It is a pleasure to play with. Also, to use all my effects made for each type without the need to switch instrument and switch pedal too. Cleaner signals with the right pedal order . I will play live with it when this darn virus is gone. Cheers!
I have been playing hybrid guitars for over 10 years. The only thing wrong with all of them is that because they have the capability of using just 1 amp or 2 the output jack shares a ground connection and when you use 2 amps you will often run into a ground loop situation that can't be solved by flipping a ground lift switch. This will drive you nuts and needs an active direct box with isolation capacity and even with that it may not solve the problem. If you are only interested in using one amp you are gonna be ok but will be compromised on the acoustic sound.
Thanks for the heads up. So will there still be a possible ground loop situation if running the piezo signal to a PA input and the other to a guitar amp? I have one of these coming in a couple days and that is how I was planning on running it.
Finally a proper demonstration. With hybrids I always worry that the maker concentrates too much on one part neglecting the other, but both sides seem workable especially for live busking for example. A Y cable is definitely the way. Thanks for this.
Awesome demo! A local shop once had a rosewood-topped tele-style Michael Kelley with Fralin pickups. It was an absolute monster of a guitar, way better than I expected. Michael Kelley makes some good stuff.
I've never been able to get into the looks of the Michael Kelly guitars, but I actually like this one. It's different enough to not be confused with any others (except the Taylor T5). Your playing is always stellar and this guitar is just so versatile. I can see adding one of these to my collection. Would make a great guitar for Modern Praise and Worship, Jazz, Country and can do a very passable hard rock too (that bridge crunch tone screamed Angus!). I'm going to look one of these up. God bless and rock on 👍😎🎸 Ohio
Thanks so much, just picked one up used after seeing a local musician here on Laaaawng Island NY, great guitar but I'm still figuring it out! I didn't even know about that coil split feature! Taking this bad boy out for a run on my next open mic adventure!
This guitar looks very cool ! Love the bound slash shaped holes and headstock. The small body looks comfortable to play, and the headstock is the perfect size for that guitar. I would rock that guitar on stage or in church, it's so versatile sounding. The price seems to be spot on too. I live down deep inside my head, I collect my mail in Lutz Fla. My wife, my cats, my kids and me. 😃
It's a really nice looking and sounding guitar! Great riffing throughout Lucas, nice touch of copyright police avoidance too :-) I've played a Tele style Michael Kelly and was really impressed with it too. I played a bunch of Fender Tele's the same day and anything shy of the $1,500 mark or so didn't play as nice as the Kelly.
Brilliant demo Lucas: came by curiosity for the guitar, stayed for the (awesome) playing 👍🏻 Kudos from France 🇫🇷 (I thought the pu's sounded a bit thin in the split position... but alright, one can always tweak the EQ a bit 😉 🤘🏻)
I have watched a couple reviews on this guitar, and it is Unique and Beautiful. The spalded maple top is better looking in my opinion. What more could you want ? It does so many things and looks expensive. Sounded great with no gain, and with gain. I want one !
I have the patriot decree, amazing for the price. (Auckland NZ) I have never seen one in a shop in NZ I picked mine up in Bangkok. Everyone who, plays it is impressed.
Man I wish I had half the talent you have with your playing! The only qualm I have with your channel is you tend to record a little hot so there's times when there's a lot of clipping, but there's only so much you can do to combat that. Great stuff Lucas! I'm gonna have to check these guys out
I have three of their Tele style guitars (a 53DB, an Enlightened 50 and most recently, a 59 thinline) and can honestly say they are each great instruments in their own right. Although I am wedded to my Agile single cuts (and double cut for that matter), I really like the versatility that this model offers and am tempted to try one out. Thanks for posting this content.
Great review! Been looking for a jack of all trades guitar for church and small coffee house gig settings. This review definitely got my attention. On the electric side it sounds quite good and honestly, the piezo sounds, well, like a piezo. A bunch of very usable sounds. Thanks from Rancho Cucamonga, CA!
You can tell that these are cheaper guitars in construction. But they are fun to play. No doubt worth buying. If you are a player who is in a bedroom setting. This is a good choice for unplugged playing where it wont hurt anyones feelings. Plug it in- It will sing just as loud as you want it.
Nice! My brother-in-law just bought an MK Tele in that color with Lindy Fralins in it. Nice! But I’m considering the model you just demonstrated for my all around gigging guitar. Thank you😊 NY-USA
I had a Hamer way back that was a similar set up. Double cut without the f holes. Wish I had kept that one, sold it to a guy who claimed he worked for Hamer back when it was first introduced.
I’ve had the 1st generation of the hybrid MK guitar. Only has the piezo and wooden cover Humbucker pup. Came with Y cables and pretty good guitar. Only issue was feedback at high volumes. Also has a flame maple top
This guitar is similar in concept to the Kiesel/Carvin AE185 model, except no Y splitter needed as it has 2 inputs in case you want to split the electric and acoustic signals. Be cool if you could get your hands on one of those. I have one and it’s very versatile.
Great demo, man. I bought this to split to two amps, as you have done, but I'm only getting the tip (electric) signal, and it sounds very crackly, at that. Acoustic, if it comes through, sounds like someone fed it through a Metal Zone...is this a cable issue? I've tried the TRS to dual TS adapter that you have, a dedicated cable, and a ABY box. Same results. Trying to avoid paying a local tech. Any ideas? The Michael Kelly support number was not much use. I've adjusted the fine tune pot in the back to gain match acoustic with electric pups, but otherwise I'm out of my element here.
The only reason anyone would watch this video is to see the Piezo's performance. Why you'd only play for 27 seconds to demonstrate the Piezo is beyond me. Thanks for wasting my time. I'm from Get A Clue, USA

Love the versatility this guitar offers, they even make a lefty version! 🙌 I’m from The UK. More content please!!!

This is the best demo of this guitar on youtube. I literally watched them all
Wow, this guitar really has alot of versatility in tone. You play it beautifully as always brother.
Yes ! A lovely instrument, very versatile indeed. I am delighted to own one. Crafted with care. Worth your savings.
Cheers from Belgium.

Nice looking and sounding guitar with tasteful F holes. Glad to see the new content. Thanks.....I am watching from Ogden Utah area.
From Abu Dhabi! Awesome review! Thank you. Liked when you combined acoustic and high gain output.

That is the coolest guitar ive ever seen and heard
It’s visually reminiscent of the Taylor t5. Looks and sounds great, although I don’t much like piezo pickup sounds…
Love that guitar.
Dang man you’re guitar sillz are crazy! I’m from Jasper Ga that’s about 45 min N of ATL and considered N Ga.

Cool Guitar, Cool Playing. Cheers from Sydney Australia!!
I could see that being super useful in my church band duties.
Thank you.

Thanks from Memphis! I’m looking for one of those now. Taylor T5 is a little pricey and I think the MK will work.

Loved the going back and forth from piezo to high gain 'buckers
Things I never thought I would be able to do when I was a teenage guitar player :P

Best video on this guitar,thanks
From Sarasota,fl
Good Video.....i' m from Germany .....and man....the guitardealer of my choice has had some Michael Kelly Guitars in the past ... that i like !!!
Nice! My brother-in-law just bought an MK Tele in that color with Lindy Fralins in it. Nice! But I’m considering the model you just demonstrated for my all around gigging guitar. Thank you😊 NY-USA
Very cool guitar. Man you can shred!! Kentucky man here
Great review, thx Lucas!
I'm in Toronto, 🇨🇦

They have a nicer one with Seymour Duncan’s in it that sounds fantastic!!!
sounded great acoustic...down the road in walkertown just outside the cigarette city !

Love it from Pennsylvania
Hey Lucas! Greetings from Italy!
This axe needs Filter-tron type pickups! OR a couple of Lindy Fralin Vintage SC strat pickups!
I just bought this guitar!
What kind of cable allowed for that Channel split!
Nice! Any difference between those made in Korea and those from Indonesia?
Really like your videos
.especially planet tone. Im in oneonta. AL
just curious....an acoustic bridge with steel round wounds seems problematic with intonation. Is this not a problem?
Can you explain what cables I need to split the signal? Looks like you have two? One long stereo cable and one Y cable?
Anderson, S.C. checking in \m/
Great review! That's very similar to my Crafter S.A. arw. I would rather own that MK. Wanna trade. Mine is for sale on Reverb.

Just ordered mine. Any advice on getting the most authentic acoustic tone? DI box or effects, or mixer settings?
Magnolia Texas
Potentioal to be a great VID IF you had indicated what configuration you are playing such as MAGNETIC or MAGNETIC/PIEZO, or PIEZO.
It definitely says what pickup setting I'm using in the bottom right corner?
can the action and/or intonation be adjusted?
really like those 'f' holes.
Pietro!
What color is that. I want to get one.
Mass effect 4 twitch stream in 2025 when it drops?
