Well worth picking up and far more worth the money in my opinion than the T5Z. Happy playing!

Thanks for the great review, guys. Out of scores of guitars I've owned, acoustic & electric, my recent acquisition of a used T5 is the one I like the most. So, in the end...one of each. I like clean. I've been gigging since the 60's, and we got our dirty sounds sans pedals and other tech of today by overdriving a fender bassman. It gave more of a bell tone is the best I can describe it, so the T5 was hands down the cleanest/dirty. AND if I WANT to play with the tech, it's there.
Stumbled upon this while researching the T5z. The acoustic sounds on the Acoustasonic are _so_ much better. It sounds much more like an acoustic recorded with a condenser. A nice, tight, coherent mid range focussed sound. A soon as he switches to the T5z all the mojo is gone. It's got a little more low end, but the sound is super scooped, thin and buzzy.
excellent detailed job but surprised that no one does a taylor t5 and godin a6 comparison. there's lots of acoustasonic vs taylor and acoustasonic vs godin comparisons.
I enjoyed your comparison. However, as a T5 owner and an avid viewer of T5 reviews, I don't think you got the best sounds possible from the T5Z you played. Richer acoustic tones are available using the tone controls and the humbucker pickup in position 3 would have made for a better comparison. Also, it would have been nice to hear more sounds possible from each guitar. Having said all that, the Jazz Acoustasonic made some very nice sounds - despite the way it looks... :o)
The Fender doesnt sound good and a design flaw (which the guarantee wont cover because it is the design) where it has a low quality top and no support inside, it will easily within a few years start warping the top from the bridge. Thats a lot of money nobody will get back just because it is part of the design. Theres a customer who had this problem and made a video about it.
To each his own... I'm happy just making and learning to play with the Taylor and Breedlove acoustics (and an Ibanez AS73FM, to which I've had fun adding Dunlop dual design strap locks and a custom pickguard). I still grin thinking about how Fender swamped RUclips with reviewer videos on this Acoustasonic's introduction. Thanks to Fender and Robert Baker who gave one of these away.
I use an acoustic for acoustic tones, a T5z for what it can do and an Electric for Electric tones: SG Standard, Telecaster, Stratocaster or Les Paul. It IS a freak of nature that the T5z Custom I have with 11s on it is easier to play than any of the electrics with 10s.
Can't beat ovation USA models for Crisp wonderful acoustics. The Taylor T5 comes close too( I own both). I also own a Giannini 12 string acoustic / electric which has great and pristine harmonic sounds.
What does one do better than the other? Any genres/styles you find yourself playing more with one guitar than the other? Looking to get my first hybrid and would appreciate any advice. Thank you.
@@MrJoerymars kind of what they said in the review, the Acoustisonic Telecaster has really good acoustic tone with some electric sounds. The T5z has a broader variety of electric tones. I play a lot of southern rock and the Taylor does this well. If I’m playing a variety of styles, the Acoustisonic is more versatile. Both cover some of the same ground but I have been impressed with the Acoustisonic’s acoustic tones. The T5z gives me a variety of electric tones with a few acoustic tones.
Subbed. 👍Thanks for the in depth review and head-to-head. One suggestion... the vid is 25 minutes long, you could have gone through every single setting in that time, instead of subjecting viewers to what could arguably have been two of the least pleasant settings.
Great demo! For me personally the T5 is the absolute winner. Not only tone wise, but also in esthetics. I’ve also made a demo of the T5 with some lead sounds. For people who want to see the T5 switch from acoustic to lead in a second, I’ve got that covered in my demo!
The cheaper $1200 Mexican Player Acoustasonics ($800 cheaper than the US made ones) are designed with a replaceable 9v battery, just like the Taylor. There's scant info on replacing the lithium battery in the US Fender models when it eventually goes, but reports are replacing the soldered-in battery is moderately difficult. Recently Fender stated that because of the line's popularity they intend to make more models, including even less expensive models than current Players
I have a Taylor it’s a fantastic guitar great acoustic sound , and rock comes with light gauge strings with plain G so solos ate great … did anyone try to a the Aucoustercaster with light gauge strings as it sold with wound G ! Just interested 🤘
I really like the grungy cranked side of the taylor with the electric much more over the fender does the 12-string t5z come with the same pick up the same lectronics all the same internals as the other t5z guitars?
Taylor's are Good but nothing like FRANK hannons GIBSON DOVE AND I REALLY LIKE THE GIBSON HUMMINGBIRD BUY THE WAY FRANK IF YOUR OUT THERE WELL I DIDN'T THINK YOU WOULD BE WATCHING THIS BUT IF YOU ARE I WANT TO GET A DOVE YOU CAME UP WITH A SWEET GUITAR BROTHER
Awesome acoustic sound on the Acoustasonic. I have a T5 that I really like but the T5z acoustic sound sounded thin and not as acoustic as the Fender. Drat. I may just try out the new Fender. I like the sounds of the Taylor Solidbody for the sounds you can get with the 5 way switch. The Fender Acoustasonics all look weird. Thanks guys.
I had the Acoustasonic telecaster for a bit and eventually returned it due to production issues - and used my store credit for the T5z. The telecaster has great acoustic sound esp with it utilizing acoustic strings. I owned the original Acoustasonic Stratocaster (the electric guitar sized one not full acoustic sized - seen in many of my videos) - the tele gives you better acoustic sounds but when you swap to the electric for solos it just never felt connected because of the steel strings on them. I wanted to challenge myself to get more electric sounds so the T5z for its size and system was the one for me. I am only 5'5 so its perfect. The acoustic sound is a little hollow in my opinion - but everything else on the pick up is versatile enough with my GT100 / Logic Pro to create sounds you want. For looping I loved the original 10 year old Fender Acoustasonic Stratocaster for a kick drum sound by beating the strings by the bridge - which is still great on the Telecaster (and most piezo pickup guitars like the Martin Jr Ed Sheeran uses) - so I am most likely going to have the T5z + acoustic guitar combo for gigs. Like a Martin Jr again or possibly a Breedlove. I was hoping the T5z and GS Mini would be my combo but the GS Mini pickup sucks horribly for line in gigs and recording. I do with the T5z had a dedicated gig bag like the telecaster does because the gig bag is such a superior and lightweight case - the hardshell case with the T5z is bulky and not gig friendly but I can see why people would want to leave a $2000 guitar home haha. I've sold 10 acoustics to get the T5z and finally find the acoustic guitar to pair for gigging. At the end of the day for gigs most people won't be able to tell the Acoustic isn't a Full acoustic on the T5z IMHO unless you had the tele / Strat / jazzmasster with you haha.
Everyone has slept on the T5/T5z since it was made because everyone called it a "hybrid" Acoustic/Electric.. The way I see it, it's the ultimate Hollowbody, and it's really just its own instrument. And you gotta know how to dial it right.
First off, nicely done video. Good info and nice comparison demos. Outside of the sound, I am very curious about the play-ability, which really seems to be passed by with these types of videos. Granted, the sound IS where the versatility is coming from, BUT...I am in an area where the music stores are very small and there just is not a large selection to pick off of the rack to demo, including these types of guitars. I am a lead player, turned into an solo acoustic performer wanting to drop leads into acoustic renditions of cover songs. Based on play-ability, which guitar performs more like an electric lead guitar? This is the first video that I found like this that brushes on it, but it was from the sound perception, and truthfully, as awesome as the guitar work was, it lacked bends, which is where I am struggling on my acoustic. Anyone with input on this would be welcome to comment with great gratitude from me. Thank you.
Hey guys I just got done going through most of your videos I didn't get to go through all of them and I see a lot of budget guitars I myself have purchased two IYV guitars off of Amazon and I would say they're phenomenal I think you should maybe do a tutorial on these ones, one of which is the ivy ITF-300 NA Tele Solid-Body Electric Guitar, Natural for a $143 And the other one is the ivy IJZ-300 TSB Jazz Solid-Body Electric Guitar for $208 I think you'll be happily surprised on how well-constructed these guitars are as well as their playability and price point it would be a good video I think keep up the great work guys I love your Channel
I think it’s a shame that fender only offer the Telecaster model in this line for left handed players.... i really want the jazz master model. I’m not a tele player
Thank you fellas for that breakdown. Versatility vs signature tone, though neither slack in the opposing field. Both awesome guitars. Do you guys, or anyone else in this thread, have experience with playing these through a portable pa system?
I had an acoustasonic tele and sold it. I’m not sure why but this tele hurt my ears. Perhaps the digital modeling? Also, I own a T5... In my humble opinion, It feels better to play and the sounds I can get are much better. Oh yeah, for what it’s worth,I have an es-335 and some high end rosewood acoustic guitars. The hybrids don’t compare. So,to me, these are definitely made for quickly switching styles without having a rodie place a preferred guitar in your hand before each song. (Sorry for stating the obvious)
I also had the Tele Acoustasonic and sold mine too. I have owned 3 Taylor T5’s and eventually sold all 3 because for me none did any sound great enough to keep them. The Tele acoustic tones just had this boxy or artificial sound that my ears didn’t like. I loved the build though and the neck was great! I now own a Martin Black Smoke dreadnaught and a G&L Fallout and am very satisfied with my sound.
Yeah, I guess it's buyers remorse. I have an 814, was hoping the acoustasonic would be a good dual purpose for me. But, after a year I realize my tastes have been spoiled by the depth and breadth of the Taylor sound. I guess I'll have to get a T5 to mitigate my frustration. My Fender Jazzmaster sounds too shallow.
@@JamesGowan I don’t know if I want this exactly, it still feels like a bigger investment especially since I’m only intermediate and haven’t practiced in a week.
I own both. They both are good at everything but not great at anything. You find yourself wanting a traditional option at the end of the day. I will say, they are both extremely fun to play.
Why are they mostly plugged into electric guitar amps in most videos ? I would like to see them plugged through acoustic amps first . it seems that it would make more sense.
Just listening the T5 has a more "muted" electric sound than the Acoustasonic Jazzmaster. The Acoustasonic Jazzmaster is "brighter" and I'm an acoustic Taylor guy. In acoustic Taylors have a bright, high-note sound as opposed to most more pricey acoustics that are very "bass-y." The harder you pound them the more the bass comes out. In this electric comparison the Taylor is muted and bass-y..... a sound I do not like.
I don’t care to hear them with effects! I prefer you playing one guitar and playing the other in the same pickup position. If you’re comparing the guitars I don’t care about how they sound with your pedals , everyone already has pedals. I want to hear the differences in the guitars. It’s hard to tell with the pedals.
If I was a gigging musician the Acoustasonics would be more interesting. Since I’m a bedroom guitar picker I have dreads and Strats, even a 175 hollowbody in easy reach with much better tone. Never got on with the T5 sound.
Did you max out the volume on the T5z on the acoustic example? pushing the volume on it I see. Was the tele also pushed beyond? I hated the fact that you didn't have a 12 o'clock notch. you never really know where you were in the A and B knob. I'm going to test out Jazz wound 11s on my T5z to see if the wound G will give a bit better acoustic sounds.
I play my T5 at the detent point (12:00) rather than full blast most of the time. Sometimes at 100% volume. The key to the T5 is dialing it right.. raise the Low some, lower the High some, and you get a great sound.
@@auxorion for sure I went down the rabbit whole on it haha Love the thing. Gonna get one of the new Martin SC series and an anniversary strat now to have two dedicated.
I really dig the Jazzmaster. I love the sounds, and it oozes vibe. However, I would only buy it in black, to make the humbucker less noticeable. In any other finish, it lines up with the bridge and the sound hole in a way that looks like a face, which I call "Cyclops Hitler". I can't unsee it now.
At a gig, I'd say the Taylor would be the winner. Not because of sound or playability, but because it _looks_ so much better than any of the Acoustasonics. If someone turned up at rehearsal with the Taylor, I'd be interested in its sounds. If they brought an Acoustasonic, they'd be told that it might be ok for rehearsals, but not for gigs.
T5 is analogic and Fender is a digital. This is the most important diference to me. Maybe I like fender more than Taylor cause the jazzmaster vibe, the visual and the sounds.
I think they both sound pretty good and I "get" their point. But... When I want to play an electric, I play an electric and when I want to play an acoustic, I pick up my acoustic. I think the hybrid qualities would annoy me. I think that if I was in an acoustic frame of mind, I'd be annoyed by being plugged in and having to deal with the electric qualities, and when in an electric mood I'd just pick up my Tele. I suppose the hybrid nature results in compromises that I'd find distracting.
If you're a solo performer at bars and restaurants, it's helpful to have an acoustic that can double as an electric for solos when you use a loop pedal. Or, if your playing acoustic based songs with another acoustic player, it's nice to jump into lead mode before going back to acoustic rhythm--so in those situations, this kind of guitar is clutch.
Like a hollow or semi-hollow body electric, yes, you can play acoustically, and tune with a headstock tuner. The difference is that in having an active pickup system, like most acoustic guitars and keyboards, it should be plugged into a passive acoustic amp or an active amplifier with a line level input that does not route the signal through the amplifier's preamp section. I have a Taylor Academy 12e and a Breedlove Exotic Concert E, and both sound great using the Line setting of the Vox MIni3 G2 modeling amp, while the Ibanez Artcore semi-hollow has me stuck (so far) with the AC30 Top Boost model setting, all with a little analog delay.
I try not to focus too much on subjective looks, but that acoustasonic just looks so bad to me. Maybe if they make a version where the front face doesnt look as cheap to me or the sound hole and pickup look more cohesive I'll get on the hype train because I do like the guitar and everything else on it looks so good.
For me , I am not really pleased with these types which sound inbetween electric and acoustic. I hope it cannot never outplay either electric guitar or real acoustic guitar. Anyway, that's my take.
The only thing that would make the Acoustisonic look good would be if the top looked exactly the same as the sides and back - same wood grain and color. The tops always look jarring with the way the side wood wraps around. Even the "natural" one has this problem. Too much of a clash. It would suddenly be a cool guitar if Fender did this. That white one looks like a formica top or something.
The guitar demo starts at 14:25. You're welcome!
thank you

I’m happy with my Acoustisonic Telecaster. I also have a T5z pro, different animals, I like them both.
Wonder how these sounds compare to the Variax. Build and sounds are stunning. I think the Jazzmaster is my favourite.
Variax is no match for them unfortunately
I know a lot of people hate on these guitars but I like them both
Best regards from Poland. StayTrue!
nice, have been waiting.
I'm just waiting for Fender to release left-handed versions of the Acoustasonic Jazzmater.
Best ending ever! Taylor feel and beauty wins me over
The cheaper $1200 Mexican Player Acoustasonics ($800 cheaper than the US made ones) are designed with a replaceable 9v battery, just like the Taylor. There's scant info on replacing the lithium battery in the US Fender models when it eventually goes, but reports are replacing the soldered-in battery is moderately difficult.
Recently Fender stated that because of the line's popularity they intend to make more models, including even less expensive models than current Players
Man I think it would be real fun with that fender and a looper
I have a Taylor it’s a fantastic guitar great acoustic sound , and rock comes with light gauge strings with plain G so solos ate great … did anyone try to a the Aucoustercaster with light gauge strings as it sold with wound G ! Just interested 🤘
Awesome video! I was wondering how they sound unplugged, no power, nothing but air!?!
The guitar demo starts at 24:39. You're welcome!
I really like the grungy cranked side of the taylor with the electric much more over the fender does the 12-string t5z come with the same pick up the same lectronics all the same internals as the other t5z guitars?
The fender in my opinion has a better acoustic sound, the Taylor has a better electric sound , both are awesome ☺️
How funny, Luc-- I was thinking exactly the opposite! 🤣 Guess it's based on our set lists. All good!
So, as a guitar player, get both?
Great comparison, both guitars are great and sound great.
I haven't seen anyone play any slide on the Fender yet. That would be great to hear.
There's some in one of the fender promo vids: ruclips.net/video/wpFi4dpQOoU/видео.html
Thanks man!
If the fenders voices are all modeled, how does the sound hole affect tone?
Thank you.
Hey guys I just got done going through most of your videos I didn't get to go through all of them and I see a lot of budget guitars I myself have purchased two IYV guitars off of Amazon and I would say they're phenomenal I think you should maybe do a tutorial on these ones,
one of which is the
ivy ITF-300 NA Tele Solid-Body Electric Guitar, Natural for a $143
And the other one is the ivy IJZ-300 TSB Jazz Solid-Body Electric Guitar for $208 I think you'll be happily surprised on how well-constructed these guitars are as well as their playability and price point it would be a good video I think keep up the great work guys I love your Channel
Great playing! The Fender sounds better. The Taylor, also good.
I think it’s a shame that fender only offer the Telecaster model in this line for left handed players.... i really want the jazz master model. I’m not a tele player
What amp was used? Hard choice but I'm not able to plug in where I sing/play. So get me a Chris McKee signature Taylor.
I wish somebody would do a demo using flatwounds
Thank you fellas for that breakdown. Versatility vs signature tone, though neither slack in the opposing field. Both awesome guitars. Do you guys, or anyone else in this thread, have experience with playing these through a portable pa system?
just for the looks i would go Taylor cause at the end of the day I wanna look good
I had an acoustasonic tele and sold it.
I assume the Jazzmaster isn't 24" scale, correct? It doesn't look short scale.
Can these guitars be used with the yamaha THR30IIA ( which I just purchased)?
Yeah, I guess it's buyers remorse. I have an 814, was hoping the acoustasonic would be a good dual purpose for me. But, after a year I realize my tastes have been spoiled by the depth and breadth of the Taylor sound. I guess I'll have to get a T5 to mitigate my frustration. My Fender Jazzmaster sounds too shallow.
I look for the Jazz Master....What a multi tone guitar... For me would be the tungsten one.... Good video
Yep. Got the Tungsten model. Haven't played it yet. Too busy admiring it!!!
I hate to see people smashing guitar, regardless they are good one or bad one, it hurts my feelings every single time. Please don’t do that.
I need a new electric so bad. Next time my family takes me to Texas I’m gonna go to your store.
If you want THIS, buy online
@@JamesGowan I don’t know if I want this exactly, it still feels like a bigger investment especially since I’m only intermediate and haven’t practiced in a week.
I own both. They both are good at everything but not great at anything. You find yourself wanting a traditional option at the end of the day. I will say, they are both extremely fun to play.
Why are they mostly plugged into electric guitar amps in most videos ? I would like to see them plugged through acoustic amps first . it seems that it would make more sense.
I like the white, my dirty fingers will relic very quickly.
You guys are just the best! That's all I wanted to say :))
In this electric comparison the Taylor is muted and bass-y..... a sound I do not like.
you can dial that in by adjusting the eq dials on the Taylor
I don’t care to hear them with effects! I prefer you playing one guitar and playing the other in the same pickup position.
If you’re comparing the guitars I don’t care about how they sound with your pedals , everyone already has pedals. I want to hear the differences in the guitars. It’s hard to tell with the pedals.
I’m a diehard Taylor “fanboy” but I’d take the fender in this case....
@@auxorion for sure
I went down the rabbit whole on it haha
Love the thing. Gonna get one of the new Martin SC series and an anniversary strat now to have two dedicated.
Well.. that ending was unexpected 😳.
I like the multiple acoustic sounds on the Fender. Taylor is much better looking
i wish someone would do godin a6 ultra vs the taylor t5z
Ive owned a strat acoustic sonic, nope it didnt float my boat so looking at the t5z
I really wanted to like the jazz master more but I prefer the sound of the T5.
Jazzmaster all day long👍
1:25 uncanny looking design...but what the heck what matters is the music 🎶🎶🎶
At a gig, I'd say the Taylor would be the winner. Not because of sound or playability, but because it _looks_ so much better than any of the Acoustasonics. If someone turned up at rehearsal with the Taylor, I'd be interested in its sounds. If they brought an Acoustasonic, they'd be told that it might be ok for rehearsals, but not for gigs.
@@jackisgallant Das mag oberflächlich sein, aber es macht mich nicht falsch.
If the acoustasonic's had a clean neck pickup Id buy it.
...And still no tone knob! 😣
T5 is analogic and Fender is a digital. This is the most important diference to me. Maybe I like fender more than Taylor cause the jazzmaster vibe, the visual and the sounds.
The .011s on the Taylor feel like .010s because of the shorter scale length. 24-7/8" vs the 25-1/2" of the Fender.
Great comment-might explain why many feel the acoustasonic sounds better. Thanks
Show me one band with someone playing one of these fenders.
Woulda been nice if y’all played earlier on in the video before lecturing. Almost 10 minutes and I haven’t heard a note.
Or, if your playing acoustic based songs with another acoustic player, it's nice to jump into lead mode before going back to acoustic rhythm--so in those situations, this kind of guitar is clutch.
these are very interesting guitars . can you play them acoustically ?
Yes you can, do they sound good when you do, no they don't. hope that helps. :)
I have a Taylor Academy 12e and a Breedlove Exotic Concert E, and both sound great using the Line setting of the Vox MIni3 G2 modeling amp, while the Ibanez Artcore semi-hollow has me stuck (so far) with the AC30 Top Boost model setting, all with a little analog delay.
what style of fingerpicking does copper do? i really want to learn it
Who’ s Copper ?
His name is Cooper
Fender hands down
14 mins in before starting to play?
I try not to focus too much on subjective looks, but that acoustasonic just looks so bad to me. Maybe if they make a version where the front face doesnt look as cheap to me or the sound hole and pickup look more cohesive I'll get on the hype train because I do like the guitar and everything else on it looks so good.
Agreed…they both sound awesome!!!
Bottom line…
The decision comes from what the player needs.
Note re appearance….
The T5z is GORGEOUS !!!
For me , I am not really pleased with these types which sound inbetween electric and acoustic. I hope it cannot never outplay either electric guitar or real acoustic guitar. Anyway, that's my take.
I feel the same way.
This Cooper dude can really play right?
jazzmaster all day
Good video-p
Idk guys... I didn't really like the acoustasonic sound that much... I guess I'm just weird.
Don’t destroy a guitar, give it to me! 😆
I must say the demo was lacking on both guitars
The T5z does not even come close on the acoustic sound...
To me the Fender has that terrible quacky piezo sound. Taylor’s has that standard bright Taylor acoustic amplified sound.
For the acoustic sound, T5z still sounds quite electric, not as natural as Acoustasonic.
