I can tell you, because I personally knew Katelyn, that she intended not to go to Colorado, but had gotten an internship at an ad agency in Cincinnati. I heard that from her, not hearsay from other people. John Carter was in no way nice or good to her, and I know this for a fact. Katelyn was respected and loved by a lot of people. Her family talks about how she was kind and friendly to everyone, she was.
I sit here and see that he was finally charged, after everybody knew he did it, it is still hard to believe she is dead. Everybody knew he did it, both police departments in Fairfield and Hamilton knew, and I can only say that his family has some kind of influence in Butler County.
Think about how he worked as a teacher showing people how to blow glass, and he has enough money to post bond? That is $100,000 he paid right away. The bond was a million. So his family knew this day was coming.
To lose a dear friend is excruciating. In her honor - I am in the documentary movie.
Paragraphs are a good idea here.

What I've come to understand is that never tell your partner you're leaving them no matter how nice they are.
I left in the night.
I was safe, but had to forfeit my clothes, paperwork, furniture, childhood pictures (which he never returned, and are lost forever, only a few pictures donated from my siblings' books is all I have ... they were of no value to him, but he knew this would bother me the most).
It's 24 years later now and spoke to our (>> his) best friend at the time, only to learn that even so recent as 2-3 years ago he was still thinking about a way to retaliate.
There is no other thing in the world that I could have done, that would have altered my life course for the better, than leaving this lazy, entitled narcissist. And to think I even felt guilty for doing that for a very long time.
There are two kinds of people in the world, and one kind abuses you and plots against you for more than 20 years after you manage to get away.
@@MegaTinniwhat you did was courageous and smart! You saved your own life! You should stand proud. Your experience struck a cord with me. I wish there was a way for us to DM each other. Your ex kept your pics? These abusers are evil. Mine threatened to throw my dog's ashes out (my dog that just passed away the day before who's body was still awaiting cremation at the vet's office). Yup. Beyond evil.
@@S-nyc That's terrible. My previous dog passed away 2 years ago and it still hurts.
How can the people we loved so much choose to harms us so much, right?
Despite numerous requests via this friend to give me back my photo book my parents made when I was a baby and child (the only thing I asked for), he never did.
By accident, when I left, I was in possession of some certificates of three light motorbikes he owned, and that would costed him some money to reapply for, but even this trade could not tempt him to give it back.
I learned he kept my photo album in a humid garage for a long while and then eventually threw it out like trash after some years. So even years after he had the time to come to terms with the break up (and his own parents died in that time), he obviously still chose to discard rather than give them back. There was no basic level of respect towards me, for the years I loved him and stood by his side.
The fact that he abused me mentally, separated me from my family and was violent against me, should have made it no surprise. But I still kept hoping he would not be so evil to take away these unique mementos from my childhood and parents.
I was 21, he was 23.
I am glad I was able to turn my life around and reunite with my family.
@@MegaTinnibut you're alive to tell the tale. Nine times out of ten, you can safely break up with someone. But the tenth time, your soon-to-be-ex could be your killer.
Once Dr. Grande finds you guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, you're done.

Ten friggin years before they arrested him??!
According to Dr Grande, he had a _phenomenal_ disguise. Laziness.
I just think the cops were lazy. Occam's Razor.
Yes, in a purely circumstantial case, that is unfortunately not uncommon. It can take that long to build a case to present a case that the grand jury will vote for indictments. Grand juries are regular people randomly picked "off the street", and regular people often lean towards not prosecuting people without physical, scientific evidence.
Sounds like the Dan Markel murder in Tallahassee.
Considering his family posted such a large bond, I wouldnt be surprised if a family member is who helped him clean up.
Not very logical.
@@eadweard.a very reasonable assumption actually

You deffo wrote this the other day on a vid… I’ve read this already.

I followed this case since the second day Katelyn went missing. There is a long interview with John Carter by a local TV station (second or third day after Katelyn went missing) where John shows his true colors and damn near admits that he knew Katelyn was dead. I followed this case for over 10 years and prayed for the day that they arrested John Carter. When it came, I celebrated. I will watch every day of his trial (set for 24 June 2024) if it is televised. I hope that John is convicted and rots in prison for the rest of his life.
Where was he arrested? Mommy's basement, eating Twinkies and watching p-orn?
original comment, thanks
He is rich so probably not
When you know you're done, just say that (in a safe environment) and then stay away.
It's not her fault what happened to her.
I'm just encouraging everyone to exercise a high sense of caution when ending relationships, even if others may deem it unnecessary.
No one can predict or stop the actions of others so it's best to be overly cautious for your own safety.
May Katelyn get justice and I pray for the strength of her loved ones.
This is extremely important advice.
Bravo! I hope lots of people read this advice because too few people know this.
Even under better circumstances, it's healthiest to end the relationship, part company and give one another space & time to grieve.
Often, if *you* break off the relationship, the only thing the other person wants to hear is, "I want you back."
If you're not going to say that, it's best (and kindest) to say nothing at all & steer clear of him or her.
Sometimes people can return to being friends, but it's wise to not rush things.
You are so right. My divorce started out “amicably” if you will. Next thing you know I thought it would be ok to let him move back in to be close to our son. Big mistake. Bottom line, the person who didn’t want to end the relationship will interpret any gesture as a sign of hope. Firm boundaries will save everyone a lot of problems.
Another RUclipsr did a segment on this and mentioned what a go-getter Katelyn was from an early age and a hard worker and had big plans for her life. Super smart, detailed and knew where she was going. When she met this guy, he was the total opposite. Apparently so opposite that her friends and family were aghast that she started a relationship with him. I suppose there must have been something about him that piqued her interest and maybe she thought she could change him and make him better (which, as we all know, never works). Once the honeymoon phase of the relationship waned and she really saw him for what he was she was over it/him. She was sick of supporting him and seeing that he was going nowhere. Very horrible what happened to her. I hope her family gets justice.
I mean that all makes sense but he said they were together for over 5 years. The “honeymoon phase” is only a few months. Who knows why she stayed with them she was smart and pretty.
How ironic, he was going nowhere, and so she is going nowhere as a result
* piqued her interest
@@Ken-fh4jc Initially I agreed with you, but then I pulled out the calculator! (Sorry, I can't do math) so she was only 16 when they started dating, 21 when they got engaged. So 5 years of dating at that age is not a big deal. Kids don't know better. I dated a loser for 4 year and was engaged at 22. (Luckily I was smart enough to know I didn't want to support his lazy, pathetic ass & dumped him). As we get older, even 5 months is too long to tolerate BS. But she was so young, she didn't know better? Maybe low self worth? Didn't want to be single? Poor girl didn't get a chance to leave.
@@HereTakeAFlower oh dear, my bad. Thanks
Thanks Dr. Grande, I like my speculation shaken, not stirred.
That circumstantial evidence if pretty damning. I wonder why the arrest took 10 years.
The end of a romance is a dangerous time if people cannot think rationally and accept that life is hard. The difference between sanity and insanity is the ability to accept that fact. This guy wanted his cake and eat it too. If he wanted her, he should have at least tried to make something of himself.
Indeed.
Hi Dr. Grande. I'm here to speculate with you..😅
John Carter would have been better off moving to Mars…

I just want to give a huge thank you to Dr Grande for always having a new video up and being so reliable 😊
I can't figure out how such miss matched people stay together long enough to get engaged... 5 years. Smh
Emotional ties are sometimes hard to break. I think a lot of people feel they've failed & feel guilty. They have a sort of Stockholm Syndrome & it takes courage to get away, some don't manage to.
Love makes you do the wacky, man.
When you are young, it goes in stages:
1) rose tinted glasses
2) you think you can change them
3) they guilt trip you into thinking it's your fault
@@MegaTinnibut if she was repulsed? Why were they ever in a relationship
Because she was very young and good people want to be "loyal". At that age it is hard to discern who deserves loyalty.
Once you are in a relationship with certain types of people, your own free will to determine how your life is going to go no longer exists. They are MANY. I’ll never date again. Not worth it.
THIS! 👍
Then don't date 'certain types of people' anymore.
Once you have such an experience, you should be able to detect them sooner and weed out. No?
Worked for me.
Put quality over quantity. And you only need to find one good person, remember.
"Especially because those ideas involved having sex with him" really caught me off guard LOL
He spent most of his time watching "adult videos". So at least he wasn't a pedo.
@@adotintheshark4848 He didn't have much choice, since she made it obvious to him he disgusted her.
@@danielhartin7680so she didn't put out. She should have put on her walking shoes about then. Why was she sticking around? Using him? That can make some guys snap.
@@adotintheshark4848 I don't disagree. In fact, a large percentage of these types of cases involve a breakup. Credence should be given to the fact that the breakup of a serious long term relationship is one of the most devastating events in one's life. It's right up there with the death of a loved one, with the added nitro of feelings of betrayal. Not to excuse murder of course, but in many instances the man has devoted many years, perhaps even decades, to building a life with a woman, only for her to drop the bomb that she's not happy and is leaving. There goes all his years of building a life with her....poof. It can push even the most docile of men over the edge.
@@danielhartin7680I couldn't agree more, and a guy can drop the same bombshell on his wife or partner of many years.
I come here for the analysis.
I stay for the deadpan humour…..
I come here for diagnoses...but it never happens!!
I follow the Doc for the deadpan delivery,, most of these are well known cases but his take is interesting and his analysis is his own... I disagree with him occasionally,, like with his video about Anne Heche when she crashed her car drunk and was horribly burned and the Doc did this incredibly scathing review and then she died the next day....... He wisely jerked the video after about 6 hours.... So he HAS done some less than stellar videos...
I hope someone out there heeds the warning given here. We are this too often, they're just about to leave and that's when it's fatal. If you're going, get gone, stay gone, don't give a warning. These types don't care what happens to you they just care about what makes them feel good and if that means disposing of you, so be it.
Everyone, specially women dating a psycho or you feel they are some kind of a psycho, either just plan your escape, without them knowing and just disappear from their life OR be sure to tell everyone, specially your family and closest and trusted friends what you're planning, so they can help you get away. If you still decide you want a clean break up, on the day when you're breaking up, have others with you (with weapons, does not need to be guns, anything sharp, metallic can be used as a weapon), if possible bring with you big scary looking men, to escort you, lol, don't take chances, there are so many stories like this, it's really heart breaking.
Prepare to play the victim
@@willnill7946wtf does that mean??
I couldn't get over how he was able to post bond. If someone in my family had a $1M bond, they'd just have to stay in jail, I imagine. I don't think many regular people would be able to come up with that much money even with the family members contributing
Just a reminder, I'm not diagnosing anybody in this video; only speculating about a summoning of an alter ego gone wrong like this.

The court case will be very interesting! Thanks for the video Dr Grande 🙂
I don’t know. He doesn’t fit the profile of someone who would meticulously carry out a murder without leaving any evidence behind. Either he’s secretly a criminal mastermind, he had help, or something very vital to all this is missing. The fact they allowed an entire 10 years to elapse when her body wasn’t even far from where she lived is pretty inexcusable.
its called “having influential family members with money”
He had help.
I find these cases when someone ends the life of a hardworking person aiming to have a nice life especially heartbreaking... like it's not only the victim and their family, but also the potential to make society around them better, that's ruined.
Murdered by a sloth, who was then investigated by sloths…the investigators even cleared suspects via “lie detector”

Difficult to be specific because different cultures have very different ideas about such things.
However, generally accepted healthy norms of relationship behavior, perhaps highlighting when, how and why things go wrong.
Generally trying to avoid people getting caught up in situations like Dr Grande often describes in his excellent analyses.
It's tough when you're young because our prehistoric desire to mate with a mate usually over rules common sense. Also the biological need to break away from the family home causes a rebellion therefore driving us into the arms of those the rest of the family is against. Personally I ended up with three wonderful, smart, beautiful children but they were right. He was no good.

Hi Dr Grande,
John reminds me of a man I dated in the early 2000.
As always I learn something new from your videos.
You have to be compromising to some extent to stay in a relationship and be married but its common to have too much (and get into trouble) or too little of it (and stay single). Cases like these make one feel less bad about erring towards the latter
Hello Dr Grande .
I lived down the street from them, cool to see this case covered!
Terrible outcome for her, such a short life. He's a loser (pizza delivery, pot/substance issues). Agree he's guilty. Excellent breakdown again for us. Thanks Dr G😊💝💝
HEY COME ON,, you can't just say pizza deliverer and smoking pot as some sort of blanket accusation against those things without being thought of as a real jerk,, actually most criminals who do something like this are not layabout dopers who have entry level jobs, which seems to be exactly why the cops didn't think he would do something like this... By the comments in the chat it sounds like hes a Mommy's boy who was pretty coddled and wouldn't have left the area under any circumstances, not really having enough wit or ambition to really formulate any sort of escape.......
That said of course you're right she should have dumped him, no reason not to... Guy was a bum...

Some men are jealous and insecure if a woman is smarter than they are. John definitely would have been controlling her with an iron fist if they had gotten married.
Hm some people defended him because there wasn't enough concrete evidence? If people required as much evidence as they need in the courtroom to believe something as they do religion, there would be far fewer religious people.
Wrong. There is plenty of evidence to support biblical events and figures. There are also thousands of documents dating back to 120BC in multiple languages, all with identical accounts of the gospel. Far more than many other philosophical writers that are never questioned.

Dr Grande, please do a video about the murder of a Russian opposition leader Navalniy, who was murdered in prison this week. This is massive news as it comes during Russian elections and a successful Ukrainian destruction of a large Russian battleship.
Might this have been a revenge-murder of a political opponent ?
Certainly an expected tactic used by Putin, as described by Guriev in his book "Spin Dictators".
PS: 1 year ago, you reviewed president Putin. Today, he caused Navalny's end. It would be poetic justice to discuss the life and mission and end of Navalny.
