Josh Karnini Well really it’s indirect. There are other pollinating creatures, but most plants use bees to continue life. Without bees, said plants would stop reproducing and die, making food supplies tank.

i think the idea is that you only get this part of the DLC after becoming the champion, and otherwise it just ends after evolving cubfu. but if you're the champion already like most people, it just seems like an awkward and unecessary continuation of the other story.

@@zachmercer1065 It'd be great if other protagonists aside from Red would show up... it's one of the coolest thing about Pokémon Masters is seeing folks like Hilda and Ethan get some spotlight as legendary trainers in their own right. A Champions' cup with the actual in-game champions AND the protagonists of each games teaming up for double battles?! Insane! Probably with their gender decided by the gender of your character.

I honestly have to say that when the quest started, and they were talking about nectar, my mind went straight to a Vespiqueen and I was kinda baffled that that we couldn’t just go out and find the Pokémon for ourselves. It would’ve made things easier for us....
Pokemon is such a barebones experience now it’s kind of sad, it didn’t transition very well to the more modern gameplay era where games can be bigger so they need more to do.
the people who are still super into Pokemon these days are those who are influenced by nostalgia and those who don't play games and still think that Pokemon is a premium experience.
It thrived on the ability for people to use their imagination for most of the game. The attack animations before 3D models didn't need to be perfect, nor did character building since everyone was a mini sprite with only Gym Leaders/Elite Four/Notable characters needing full designs (which were well made). Now that games have the ability to show you everything; expressions, movements in more than square units, animations etc. people expect that from Pokemon and it hasn't worked out well.
Also many hardcore fans have been around for a while and nostalgia makes them remember their first games more favourably even if they struggled to catch a damn Feebas.
It's not that it needs more, it needs to do what it already has better first.
Unpopular opinion: gamefreak was never that good of a developer. Mighty gunvolt was their first game and their peak, lol. Pokemon was a fluke and really hasn't "evolved" since the original gold and silver. Just look at any other game they've released that isn't Pokemon.
@@fillerbunnyninjashark271 I'd agree, though I don't think Pokemon needs to evolve. If it was just new areas and new Pokemon, I'd be happy. It's when it gets lost in story that isn't well written and ephemeral gimmicks over the core design when it's a problem.
But you're right. Spike Chunsoft and Genius Sonority have done a much better job branching out than GameFreak ever has.

This part of the dlc just sums it all up for me. It's almost an interesting objective, but very poorly executed. You appear to have a lot of freedom but really it's still very linear. You unlock a new thing that helps you in battles, especially online and that part is more valuable than the rest of the quest.
Big dawg Alpha has grabbed Pokémon by the throat and yanked it from the grave. It’s gonna be great to watch him do Crown Tundra.

Yeah, it's sad that they cut half the dex out of the game, and they definitely could have just spent another year on the graphics and the dex, but then most people wouldn't bother completing the dex because there would be almost 900 pokemon.
@@mishtamoose8308 yeah, but that's really all it has going for it. the pokemon battle style was more impressive 20 years ago than it is now, and the only way they 'innovate' it is to make something that was even more impressive, like, 7 years ago, but again. and even that isn't very impressive, either. sure, you can stay that they're sticking to the tride and true pokemon formula, but if anything, that's more of an excuse. pokemon is what would've happened if sonic just did the same running through loops thing that he did back then, and if the same fate happened to sonic, i don't think he'd last long in the gaming industry.
@@mishtamoose8308 I beg to differ. Hop is half baked and the contrast between overly ignorant/eager vs a total of like 30 minutes of playtime where he's actually sad doesn't really fit well. Bede's character is a whole can of worms I don't want to get into. Having characters with mature themes doesn't excuse bad writing, even in a children's game. Also I'd argue you're just straight up wrong about the dex comment, that would at least add to the replayability of the game but instead the closest thing players get are $30 dlc that should of been in the main game anyways.

I think that pokemon should probably get rid of their whole kid branding so they could make good games, but they make a ton of money so they won't change.

The disappointing part of the DLC to me was the fact that Hop came back. (before any Hop stans attack me, hear me out, there’s a method to my madness.) Hop’s story was about how he was always chasing your character and leon’s backs trying to stand side by side, he looked up to leon to the point he wanted to be like him and praises how great you are like twice (honestly he mostly says how he’s counting on ‘you’ to get him victory for the championship cup; what a great “friend”.
I always felt like Hop’s depression arc went on far too long cause it took away from any growth he was gonna get (hell it stunted it so much he literally didn’t find himself till the epilogue.) Opal says to you, never to hop that everyone knows Leon’s unbeatable and Hop doesn’t have to go out of his way to prove that. Hop’s just trying to prove himself to no one.
So when he states that he wants to become a professor (which I feel is a bit out of nowhere, hop’s not the sharpest spoon in the knife drawer.) I was actually supportive, now hop can choose his own path in life, he’s not trying to chase the glory of the player or his brother, he’s dedicating his life to study and educating future generations on the world of pokemon! Which is rare for pokemon to not turn it into “I learned lesson.” What is that lesson? *leaves* :/
So imo that was his character arc completed, I didn’t care for hop much but respected his arc, so when they mentioned new rivals I was ecstatic to learn out them see where their arcs go and interact with them and almost instantly hop returns….so not only do they undermine his arc of going his own path and growing on his own but trample all over the two new characters who could have easily replaced hop. (It’s not like hop does anything, he literally after taking you to two different types of pokemon remembers bees exist as I’m literally pointing to my vespiqueen following us.) So we could of used that arc to team up with our new rivals and get to know them, but once again hop sucks out all character growth for the side characters.
Why do I say, again? Cause Marnie and Bede suffer this too, you battle hop 10 times counting the epilogue, how many times do you fight Bede? 5! What about Marnie? 3! There’s a point Marnie and Bede are sitting in the audience together, that being their first and only scene of interaction! Even Bede get’s character growth, he’s a kid who has no adult who believes in him so he aims to overplease, hell even chairman rose forgets his name. Marnie talks about how she “has” to become champion for the sake of everyone we never learn why.
Meanwhile most of the time is wasted on hop’s arc, (I assume the game was originally supposed to be much bigger and I wish we could jump into the alternate universe where they had the time, money and drive to put the full work in.) Hop literally goes ”I’ll need time to think about this.” On route 6 runs away and apparently all he needed was 5 mins cause he’s blocking your way to the gym so you’re forced to talk to him if you wanna, you know. Play the game. We never or rarely get time with the other characters, it could have been shaved down a bit to encounter the other two more and battle them and learn a bit more about them. (you dont even get marnie’s league card till the last 4 gyms? Seriously?) Ugh TLDR; I wish we got time away from hop and sonia in the DLC areas, from what hop tells you seems she’s in the other DLC to suck any characterization away from the new characters so….yay.

Addition: Luckily Sonia does NOT suck all the character away from the new characters, but one of them spends most the DLC in a coma and the other (his daughter) barely shows up in the first place!
Sonia does get an undeserved sense of genius however. She literally goes "I was right take that mom." when scales that lead to legendary pokemon are found in the areas they live.
Oh you mean the scales I found in this cave means i'll find this creature in the cave? : o Peony was more helpful in helping me find legendaries than she was.
Anyway she didn't suck the characterization out of the others so congrats for once.

i mean, no. He did like 70% of the stuff last video, this is the last 30%. Even if it was super good. he wouldn't have stretched it to 10 minutes. The dlc itself is actually decent, the problem was him doing most of it last video and just not adding this onto last video.
Maybe it’s because the last 30% of the DLC was not very good and kind of bad and disappointing, kind of what this video is clearly all about.

I love how done Alpharad is with this game after the fetch quest.
It's really telling the difference in difficulty in how you approach this DLC, I grabbed 6 random mons from the island as I got there and nearly got wrecked by big veaperqueen, or you can go in with lvl 100 Mr fish and just sit back and murder everything. Still always here for some more alpharad pokemon content

Dlc was that one extra chance pokemon had to redeem itself with some amusing side content.
Yet it feels like a sims add-on. You get some extra cosmetics + some.of the content you had in previous games. Plus a couple of fetch quests.
