      @James Martin I want an "all-band", detachable faceplate, color TFT screen like the 400XDR. With BANKS!!!!! All my HT's have banks, but a mobile doesn't have one? A couple of reasons I don't feel the 991a is a replacement for any mobile radio, is it only has 180 channels, and no banks to organize your repeaters and frequencies. I have the FTM-400XDR. I like it, but two bands of 500 channels, and cannot organize them into banks. My FT-3 did a better job on a cross country trip.
      Please Yaesu. All Band, Lots of channels, and Banks!!!

    As a die-hard Team Yaesu guy for years, I can honestly say this new bare bones radio has nothing to offer other than Bluetooth and detachable face (neither of which I care about) I would much rather see something with more useable features like: SSB, dual VFO/true duplex, split, high power (80-100w), tri band (1.25m or 23cm), digital, or dual radio repeater linking. Any one of which would make the unit a viable option. Just not enough features to justify the price tag.

    I have two FT-7900s. This is the same radio with less buttons so it makes you go through menus for things like squelch. They should have just brought back the 7900/8800/8900. Those radios were loved.

      It doesn't crossband or show both bands...I have the IC2730a in my Go-Box and can't seem to get the same sound quality I'm used to with Yaesu. This one just doesn't make sense to me, I may end up with the FTM300 or an old FT8900.

    I think it's great that Yaesu is moving forward in the market and understanding that there is such a shortage of ICs these days for newer products. However, is Yaesu thinking a bit backwards when it comes to newer radios. I completely understand the idea of separating the control head which I think is a must anymore is a great idea but analog only. If that was the case why not build a radio with a bit more power, maybe 75 or 100 watts for both bands. Just a thought...

    • @charliegay8888
      @charliegay8888 2 года назад

      Not sure why the limit on 2M band, but I'm pretty sure the limitation on 70cm (40 watt) is due to military equipment using same band to monitor airspace for incoming missiles around the perimeter of North America. I think the Japanese Manufacturers just limit to 40watt for this reason. Chinese manufacturers could care less.

    The FT7800/7900's only drawback (for me) was it's user-UNfriendly interface...try doing the nuisance channel delete while you're driving. What was a one-button function on the FT2400`2800 series turned into a menu-driven task with multiple steps. If they've cleaned this up, and maintained the performance of the 78/7900, it may be a winner. But I too miss the FT8800.

    Bought the FTM-400 about 4 months ago after a struggle with purchasing the FTM-300. I was worried when I heard mention of the FTM-6000. This seems like it is more comparable to Yaesu's lesser radios. Not sure if it should be in the 'FTM' category. I'm also wondering if this is the result of chip and component shortages. Yaesu had to receive an approval 'Certificate' of their design intent. In doing so, called the radio an FTM-6000. Then shortages changed what they could actually build using 'said' certificate. Best Regards.

    Based on what this radio is not, I would say that Yaesu is going help sell a lot of Icom 2730a units. I am a Yaesu fan but I bought a 2730a a few months ago because Yaesu did not have anything in that price point. I only wanted an analog radio and the 2730a has dual VFO's and cross band repeat with a detachable face. Right now it is about $250 with a $20 rebate. I am a little disapointed with this. I love all of my other Yaesu radios and am considering upgrading my ft3dr to the new ft5 just because. This is in no way to disparage Yaesu in general I just think they missed the mark on this one unless they are planning on getting the price down around $ 250 or less. Tri-band with 220 AND fusion . If they can do that I’ll replace the rig in every car I use.

    • @AmateurRadioUK
      @AmateurRadioUK 3 года назад

      I completely agree with you with regards to it lacking Fusion.
      As for lacking 220, I imagine that it would be frustrating if you live somewhere with the 220 allocation. Unfortunately not many countries have that band allocated for ham use, so for most hams that wouldn't even be a consideration.
      A quick look on wikipedia suggests there isn't really anywhere outside of South America, North America & Canada which is allowed the 220 band. In other words, just over half the world doesn't have 220MHz for ham use. It probably wasn't cost effective to build into a "basic/budget" radio?
      That said, I would have expected far more from Yaesu. Given the failure of the 818 compared to the success of recent releases from other manufacturers (such as the Icom 705) I would have hoped that Yaesu might have learnt their lesson & come up with something far more impressive.
      All in all I consider this a massive disappointment. I won't be buying one!

    If you look at their product line the 7250 and 100 are gone. All they have left is two 2m mobiles and the 300 and 400 and that's it. So in that regards this makes sense. I just hope it's priced reasonably. This "should be" less than the 7250. I got my 7250 when it was $209... dual band with had C4FMouse.

    Looks rugged but yaesu has to ditch some odd ideas.
    1# No Complex menus.
    2# The mic has to plug into face plate with 1 remote cable .
    Being a ft 7900r is no longer avalible here's the replacement radio looks like.
    I thought it looked like a powerworks type of dualband Mobil at first view.
    Don't like the VFO type rotary encoder knob sum were glitchy new on fusion radios.
    That being said looks good for about $229 max radio.
    The Tm- V71A still got lot beat for quality twin band crossband radio which was $389 before ham radio price hike just a bit ago..
    Hope see yaesu bring back twin band or 2 other mono band ft 2980 look alikes one for 220 one for 70 cm .

    Longterm Yaesu user/ supporter. Very underwhelmed with look/ capabilities of ft 6000. I’d rather see (by all manufactures) more attention given to easier ‘into/ out of’ interfaces to all new radios… like smartphone apps for Winlink 2000, APRS texting, easy remote operation, standardized ecomm wifi linkage allowing shelter occupants to just use their smartphones to send/ receive short emails to loved ones via a ARES/ RACES volunteer’s ‘Ecomm’ ready rig that then links to established ecomm data networks.

    I like the remotable head. Unfortunately, design engineers of all modern cars and trucks delight in engineering out any possible spot that one might wish to mount even a control head, much less a whole radio. It gets worse with each passing model year and ALL manufacturers are guilty of this. Remotable heads are necessary for ham, GMRS, and CB, though the CB industry has failed to embrace this technology in any meaningful way.
    I don't miss the absence of Fusion as here in the Midlands of SC, there are no viable Fusion repeaters. We have a couple of halfa- -ed attempts at Fusion repeaters, but nothing useful or viable.

    And please don't take me as a Yaesu basher. Aside from a couple of emergency Baofengs, I am all Team Yaesu. My current inventory is an FT-4xr, FT-3DR, Ft-60, FT-70, FTM-400XDR, and an FT-991A. I just am seeing the same thing being rehashed, no one there seems to be listening to any of the users. You know, the customers who buy their stuff. The FT-5 seems to be just an incremental upgrade, similar to what smartphone companies put out year after year. But nothing new to knock our socks off. Or yet another dual band radio, because the FTM-400XDR, or the FTM-300 just wasn't up to the task? Really?

      @@HamRadio2 Gotta wonder if Yaesu intentionally did that just to jack up the price and reduce the features. I love Yaesu, and have a 100D in my shack and a 400D in my truck (as well as a 2750 in an ammo can) and honestly, their "obsolete" radios are better than the new ones they are putting out now ... less features for more money.
