Great video, Jason. Thanks for making this video. Now, I don't need to talk about the details in my FTM-6000R video. I'll stick to just showing the new manpack and the digital integration. Next time, ask John about the replacement for the FT-857D? We need SSB on 2m/440! 73
Been an Icom user for years, but I really like this simplified interface, just ordered mine to go in my new Jeep. Less is more for mobile IMHO 😁 thanks for the great content.
For the question at 45 mins in, what will replace the 7250 since this doesn't have c4fm isn't that the ftm-400dr? But the yaesu guy alluded to something being in the works. I'm a ham novice but what am I missing? Thanks
I have a hard time believing Yaesu got much more than a couple of negative connects about the mic not connecting to the face plate. I wonder if it's more Yaesu's canned response for only halfway making a remote mount. It really is lame lol! Regardless, I'm looking forward to installing mine. With the data connection, I think it's going to be 80-90% exactly the radio I need.
@@HamRadio2 that's a good point... However, it would be cool if there was either a version of it that was digital capable, or had an add on module to make it digital capable. I think especially with younger people, features that digital offers, such as messaging, is probably more likely to attract them to a particular radio. (I suppose this statement could also apply to APRS as well as C4FM or other digital modes.)
I would LOVE to participate more actively in this hobby. Unfortunately, I have Aspergers Syndrome and made some social blunders early in my Ham experience. Some VERY ignorant people took deep offense when I meant none. EVERYTHING I tried to do to make things right with these people fell on Deaf Ears. I hold an Extra Class License; However there is not a single Ham Radio club ANYWHERE in Oregon that will have me!
Boo! I hope you work through it. I work for a fire department, and the guy who drives the fire engine on my crew has Asbergers. He has many of the same issues with people who he works with, but has figured out how to make it work over the years. You’ll find your sweet spot. Maybe try digital modes like FT8 in the meantime where making a social flub is sort of programmed out of the format. It sounds to me that you need a buddy to do the hobby with you and give you a poke when you start going down a path that may not jive with others.
Very informative video, great job.. I watched it earlier this year before making my decision for a truck radio. I’ll preface this by saying that I’m a big fan of Yeasu, I have an FTM-300 and a FT3 and love them both. I think Yeasu totally pooped the bed with this, there are several reasons. I know it doesn’t matter but when my radio is scanning, I want to see it scanning, it just doesn’t seem right. Duel band but no duel display or receive? Major disappointment. No mic location flexibility? Would it have been that much more difficult to add these things? Everything I just mentioned I got with the Icom 2730. I also got cross band repeat. And all that for $270. Yeah I didn’t get a mounting bracket but I didn’t need it. I fabricated an under seat mount, FYI. In my opinion this radio is at least $100 overpriced. Also I’m already seeing a few on eBay so I guess I’m not alone. Just my two cents.
@@shawn_hu yeah, I don’t understand why icom won’t sell the mounting hardware with the radio, as far as I know the other companies do, and what’s unfortunate is I wanted the icom 2730 really bad but decided to go with yaesu because of that very factor.
@@bobdillashaw4360 I am on the same boat with you and went with yaesu as well. The receiver seems a bit more sensitive on yaesu so that's another factor.
It's a Livestream. Long intros are necessary so that folks can be notified when you go live. And of course if you're watching afterwards, you can always skip forward and backward.
About the same price as a IC-2730 with the mobile mounting bracket and separation kit, which Icom sells separately but are included with this radio. Lots of people don't care about digital.

Yeah someone mentioned the 857 during the stream. John couldn't say but we kinda smirked about it, lol
@@HamRadio2 I have a suspicion that something is brewing at Yaesu R&D. ;-)
Hey Jason used to guide its drawing for you really good introduction ❤️
Buddy nice man what a great job you do 👍
Does it have a repeater mode for bouncing a roving HT through your truck, like the ICOM radios do?
That's called Crossband Repeat and no, this model doesn't
Thanks, @@HamRadio2! Changed my order from an FTM-6000R to an FTM-400XDR!

Mounting is like the old 11M slide mount.
Can you buy a 2nd mount.
is the power can be adjusted when using a linear amp? for example: if I want only 45w from the mobile radio for my 200w linear amp. thanks
Not on this model
@@HamRadio2 Thank you so much.
Icoms have a mike port on the head AND body.
I use BOTH. One for phone. One for packet.
My ID-5100 does NOT have a mic port on the head.

Looks like a missed opportunity for C4FM and or HRI-200 integration
Nope - Yaesu is doing right by not ignoring the analog-only Hams who don't care about digital.
@@HamRadio2 I’m still bummed about it but that Bluetooth feature is interesting. They did good on the remote head as well

Will the SSM-85d work with the FTM-400xrd

Please receive the airband RX 118 - 136 ?? Thanks !
I love these discussions.
Ya, the 857D was a great radio and had all you need for portable.
Port fot Packet/Winlink?
Yes you can use it for nearly anything.
Let’s do it!!!
I guess Yaesu doesn't have any problems sourcing semiconductor chips or issues with shipping. Take note, ICOM!
2m all mode in same body in future?
That would be nice

Have the 6K. Works great with WL on Digirig
Does it seem odd that the video is about a piece of technology that the video medium itself has rendered almost entirely obsolete?
It seems odd that you believe that

Why would anyone want to group all the VHF or UHF memories? Memory banks please !!!

320$ without C4FM? I don’t think so

Made in China??

I bought one, maybe I'll get it today or tomorrow and I'll tell you where it's made.
