@aperfectcircle008How is this gonna get you put in prison? If you’re in a situation that requires using a handgun in self defense you’re likely not gonna be able to aim using sights very easily. Training to not use them and still get accurate hits is a good idea to minimize the chance of stray rounds.
Covering the target with the back of the gun is how I used to shoot grasshoppers at closer ranges with a pellet pistol as a kid. I knew the sights would be high, but not by how much, so I visualized the bore axis in my mind & used that. Shoot a thousand grasshoppers or so with a one-shot pellet pistol, you get pretty good and fast at it.
Using a laser round as a training aid is good too with dry fire practice....helps with muscle memory and point of aim accuracy. Keeps target-focus. When you take the round out live round groups seem to be even tighter from my experience.
I use the same practices of my support thumb at the direction of target and I am a fan of the trigger finger method as well 🎯 spot on. I’m definitely going to try the back plate over center mass
Excellently explained 👌 Another method, probably more useful during the day as opposed to the night, is to shoot with both eyes open while stating at your target and use the more solid of the two sight pictures that ghost-overlap each other when both eyes are open and you are stating at your target and not the sights.
this is fkn facts. i use that method of blocking the target while looking for sights, Accuracy takes a hit but im still on target and quite fast until i can acquire sights when the group tightens
This is something my department is driving towards since FDLE recently updated the shooting qualification course and cut out a lot of the available time to speed up the actual shooting. A few officers opine that this would necessitate more practice to accomplish as if that's a bad thing...
Someone needs to fire your whole chain of command and you need to delete this stupid ass comment. You just said a federal LE department is training to shoot without see their sights, most cops can barely hit an a zone at 25 and you want to teach them “point shooting”
An can use thumbs as a non verbal countdown for those in the know.. while on target Both thumbs up👍= make ready 1 thumb down=stagged trigger 2nd thumb down=execute Good to teach the fam so they know when the thumbs fall= hit the deck cover/conceal
I’m really good at drawing a point aiming quickly, but it bothers me that I don’t take the time to actually aim and evaluate the target so I tend not to practice it too often.
Just learned one more point blank range target shooting method. Larry Vickers shown another style. Yours is the third style, a left thumb or trigger finger aiming method. Larry Vickers shown another style. I went another route and studied how the gunmen of the old west in the late 1800's. Revolvers at the time only had blade front sights. No rear sights. It was impossible to have a proper sight picture without a rear sight. Plus, many gunmen at the time were quick draw specialists. No time for sight alignment. You had to draw the revolver and shoot in a second. This is my method. First you have to know your dominant eye. Most people are right eye dominant. Now hold up your fist and extend your thumb. Close your non dominant eye and look at your thumb. Open your non dominant eye and you will be seeing that target that is obscured by by the dominant eye. Now get your pistol or revolver. Don't worry about the sights. Just look at the rear of the pistol or revolver. The image of your handgun is what your dominant eye sees. The non dominant eye sees the target to the left of the gun for right eyed dominant shooters. This image is super imposed in your mind. When the two images are overlapping, pull the trigger. You will hit exactly what you're looking at. Tested this during a shooting class using a laser/computer movie. The computer marked the location of where you shot. The scenario was the 21 foot rule. The computer was set for 12 foot distance of an attack. Absolutely no time to aim sights. Only thing you can do is draw and shoot. I was looking at the assailants face. The marker from the computer showed the "hit" in the middle of the forehead.
I feel like people stress the sight picture so much that you forget about trigger control and grip. Proper sight picture means nothing without grip and trigger control. Instead of “squeezing” the trigger I find that in a combative setting you should try to press it to the rear as quickly as possible WITHOUT disturbing the gun. This is difficult with handguns, because the trigger weight is typically more than the gun. Which means your grip has to be ABSOLUTELY perfect and tight. It’s very easy to jerk the gun around when pulling the trigger quickly, and it’s very easy to shoot tight groups while just slowly squeezing the trigger and letting the gun go off.
Most people don't realize you don't need to aim at normal pistol distance. Point and shoot works great and is 100x faster. For precision shots you have to aim. But center mass 10-20 yards with clean back stop point and shoot all day.
At the gunshop Close your eyes bring the gun up then open your eyes and see where the gun is pointing. Then buy the gun that fits your natural point. NDR

No, with the weapon in your hand if you use your finger to point the weapon will be off approximately 5" at 12yds. Off set the pointing finger & you will be on target. Using your finger you will build bad muscle memory, I learned that years ago. Put a empty magazine in your hand like you are shooting and point your finger at a Target and you will see where the magazine is pointing.
Learn how to point with your index, then learn how to point with your thumb, then learn to point with both, then learn how to point with your arms and fingers This all sounds stupid, but when you can naturally always be on target in a split second at close range it's pretty handy

You should never train to point shoot to a sight picture, you should have such good muscle memory with getting an instantaneous perfect sight picture that when you throw your arms to even if you don’t look at the sights they’re perfectly aligned at your point of aim for you to simply focus on when ready, training to specifically point shoot the way this guy is saying is counterproductive
If you do the work to get a fast sight picture good grip muscle memory and have good control you’re gonna be better at point shooting than this guy without ever training it
