Vince Gilligan said he deliberately had some warm moments of humanity between Jack and Todd and the gang to show that while they're the coldest most evil monsters of the series there was still some love and family there.

This scene was a perfect way to show Todd's indifference to the audience. If all we had was his shooting of the kids and the scene where they hide his body, it could be argued that Todd might have regretted it later or that it was a lapse in his judgment, but this scene really shows us that in his mind, the heist went "perfect". The kid on his bike meant less than nothing to Todd.
I think it also Succeeded in showing how Jack's gang was already very wary of Mr White's history and genius and were already planning to get him out of the picture. Yes, they listened to Todd's story, but largely through the lens of fear and jealousy, so hearing Todd's story solidified and hastened their position.

But nobody knows about the train, if you listened to all of that story, assuming you cared enough to even attempt to eavesdrop their conversation and call the police, what would you say? “Some guys were here talking about a train heist”? You don’t have the location, the date, the names, nothing really. And there’s not even a report about anything like that, nobody knows it happened. The police would be like “ok. We’ll look into it” and never do anything about it. It’s completely safe. Also, even if it were not, you can see Kenny alerting Todd when the waitress is coming so that he stops until she goes and it’s safe to restart the story once nobody is listening.

Hes not psychopathic. With a true psychopath, manipulative lying behavior has to be there, Todd is way too honest to be considered a true psychopath. He is more than likely criminally insane, he doesn't show much self preservation either. Psychopaths show heavy self preserving behavior.

I think everyone has met at least one man, if not many, who looks at women exactly like that. Seriously gives me the creeps. Good acting and directing to capture just how gross it is.
It's a tight scene, the acting superb. The actor who played Jack is pretty incredible. He's a calculating dirtbag played to perfection. Inflections, movements. Line delivery. Pauses etc. All precise.
Todd's a character with zero emotional intelligence but considerable non-emotional. After killing the kid, his ruthlessly rational brain processes the murder as "this is something that it is not necessary to tell anyone else about, and would cause problems for me if I did, so I shall not mention it or think about it in the future." And he doesn't.
I think he genuinely just doesnt see it as an interesting detail to recount. There's absolutely no hint of regret or him stopping himself from saying anything about it, which fits perfectly with his character.
I love how Mike tells Walt "just because you shot Jesse James doesn't make you Jesse James." Then they pull off the biggest train robbery in history 😆.
Jack's surname is Welker, not Alquist. Jack's sister is Todd's mother so his dad is not related to Jack. For all we know the Alquist family could a normal family and that it was Jack who turned Todd into a cold blooded psychopath.
The last minute of this clip is a great example of what rounds Breaking Bad out as one of the best shows ever. Nothing happens to move the plot forward, but the dialogue and attention to these guys' mannerisms and attitudes brings their characters to life and sucks you in. Other less engaging shows either don't spend much time doing this or don't imagine compelling characters. The nazi crew is such an interesting mix of brutality and levity
Gus is and will always be the best villain in this series but jack and his gang are great final villains. Gus was professional and could be reasoned with to an extent while jack is unpredictable and a complete monster willing to do anything.
Those bunch of fools really are a family. It’s weirdly wholesome seeing them bond. Then you remember they’re universally hated for a laundry list of legitimate reasons by everyone.
Not that anyone in his circle cares about that. When the crew is watching the video of Jesse's confession and he talks about it, the only thing Uncle Jack cares about is that Jesse ratted on his nephew.
And barely a couple minutes later, the mustachio'd guy is talking about smacking the shit out of kids on bicycles, and I was there thinking "Ha funny, you should say that."
This is also one of two times he talks disrespectful about Jesse because he mentions what a little guy he is here then later when Walt is putting a hit on Jesse and Jack mentions sarcastically about him being an ultimate badass we see Todd smiling and shaking his head no.
I read somewhere that Todd and Jack's actors had decided that Todd's mom was a drug addict and that Jack had taken him and raised him as his own. Like the Salamancas, they're evil, but they love family.
Jack and Todd were quite restrained here, actually Jack is pretty charismatic, creepy probably if You get him talking about the third Reich or something
I still have a feeling that Gene will suit up one last time as Saul Goodman and get his final redemption like Walter did in BrBa. I hope he tries to make things right for Kaylee Ehrmantraut as well as Drew Sharpe's parents (which is what Jesse tried to do when Saul and Walt stopped him).

I love the Hooper reference and compliments here in this scene. Hooper actually was a good movie. Reynolds started appearing in a lot of bad movies right around then, and for some reason, Hooper seems to have been unfairly tossed into that heap which for anybody who has actually seen it knows it doesn't belong in the pile with Stroker Ace and Heat and too many others to name.
Boogie Nights pulled him out of that mess. It's arguably, aside from Deliverance, his greatest role. And he hated that movie and the director. Marky Mark DamdiCaprio also hates the movie too now that he's a Jesus freak who's guilty over blinding a Vietnamese guy and not stopping 9/11

I just realized after all this time that Jack is kinda like Hector Salamanca. He instills this total loyalty among his family and gang but is incredibly brutal toward everyone else unless they have a specific useful skill.

I mean the story is pretty badass when you think about it. Other than the child’s death it was an incredible heist they pulled off and Todd has a lot of skills, he was a great opportunist

When it comes to 'Discussing the details of a crime out loud in the middle of a public diner', Breaking Bad is truly second to none lol
The last minute of this clip is a great example of what rounds Breaking Bad out as one of the best shows ever. Nothing happens to move the plot forward, but the dialogue and attention to these guys' mannerisms and attitudes brings their characters to life and sucks you in. Other less engaging shows either don't spend much time doing this or don't imagine compelling characters. The nazi crew is such an interesting mix of brutality and levity
Gus is and will always be the best villain in this series but jack and his gang are great final villains. Gus was professional and could be reasoned with to an extent while jack is unpredictable and a complete monster willing to do anything.
Those bunch of fools really are a family. It’s weirdly wholesome seeing them bond. Then you remember they’re universally hated for a laundry list of legitimate reasons by everyone.

Not that anyone in his circle cares about that. When the crew is watching the video of Jesse's confession and he talks about it, the only thing Uncle Jack cares about is that Jesse ratted on his nephew.
And barely a couple minutes later, the mustachio'd guy is talking about smacking the shit out of kids on bicycles, and I was there thinking "Ha funny, you should say that."

This is also one of two times he talks disrespectful about Jesse because he mentions what a little guy he is here then later when Walt is putting a hit on Jesse and Jack mentions sarcastically about him being an ultimate badass we see Todd smiling and shaking his head no.

I love the Hooper reference and compliments here in this scene. Hooper actually was a good movie. Reynolds started appearing in a lot of bad movies right around then, and for some reason, Hooper seems to have been unfairly tossed into that heap which for anybody who has actually seen it knows it doesn't belong in the pile with Stroker Ace and Heat and too many others to name.
Boogie Nights pulled him out of that mess. It's arguably, aside from Deliverance, his greatest role. And he hated that movie and the director. Marky Mark DamdiCaprio also hates the movie too now that he's a Jesus freak who's guilty over blinding a Vietnamese guy and not stopping 9/11

Notice how uncomfortable the waitress seems when she pours them coffee. When Jack asks for the check, she has it in her apron, indicating that she had wanted to get rid of them quickly that she had it so readily available.
That's not a public place. That's the kind of place where everybody minds their own business.

I just realized after all this time that Jack is kinda like Hector Salamanca. He instills this total loyalty among his family and gang but is incredibly brutal toward everyone else unless they have a specific useful skill.

I mean the story is pretty badass when you think about it. Other than the child’s death it was an incredible heist they pulled off and Todd has a lot of skills, he was a great opportunist
