  • Breaking Bad follows protagonist Walter White (Bryan Cranston), a chemistry teacher who lives in New Mexico with his wife (Anna Gunn) and teenage son (RJ Mitte) who has cerebral palsy. White is diagnosed with Stage III cancer and given a prognosis of two years left to live. With a new sense of fearlessness based on his medical prognosis, and a desire to secure his family's financial security, White chooses to enter a dangerous world of drugs and crime and ascends to power in this world. The series explores how a fatal diagnosis such as White's releases a typical man from the daily concerns and constraints of normal society and follows his transformation from mild family man to a kingpin of the drug trade.

    I believe the actor who played Todd gave an interview shortly after the show wrapped. He was asked why he thought Todd was so savage, and he referred to another character in the show: the little kid in the junkie house in season 2 (where Spooge died from the ATM crushing his head). He felt that Todd's character grew up in an environment that was very similar to that, which is why his character was so desensitized to violence and crime.

    The thing is, if it was Tod working with Walter the whole time, they would have actually been a lot more richer and the show would have been even more darker. Jesse somehow kept the humanity and righteousness in the show alive.

    • @trequor
      @trequor 2 года назад +425

      Jesse is the soul of Breaking Bad. My favourite behind-the-scenes truth of the show is that Jesse was supposed to get killed off fairly early. Walt was planned to have a series of partners and apprentices (which he still does in the final show), with Jesse just being the dumb kid he starts off with. But then they realized after few episodes that the two characters had an amazing dynamic that could turn the show from good to great.

    • @johndough3125
      @johndough3125 2 года назад +30

      Jesse Was the furthest thing from righteousness.
      He decided to cook meth in the basement of his parents house which devalued the property.
      Jesse collapsed his floor by not listening to Walt and that acid ate through the tub and floor which caused his parents to spend more money to fix it.
      Then Jesse rips his parents off by buying the house from them for 400k less than the asking price.
      Jesse put his parent through so much worry his entire life, and he didn’t care.
      Jesse decided it would be a great idea to get his girlfriend high even though he was aware she was a recovering addict..In turn jesses decision got her killed her.
      Bc of Jesse decided to give her drugs, after her over dose the girlfriends father caused a fatal accident at work bc he wasn’t focused which killed hundreds of people. Again, ultimately jesses fault.
      Jesse tried selling drugs to the recovering addicts in the NA meeting.
      Jesse stole those drugs from the batch they were cooking for Gus which could of gotten both him and Walt in some deep sht, and yet he didn’t care.
      Jesse went attempted to kill those gang members, even though Gus told him not to kill them, and in turn almost got him and Walt killed over it.
      Bc Jesse attempted to kill them, leading Walt to running them over, Gus put a hit on Tomas to send Jesse a message.
      Jesse always threw the blame at Walt, withou realizing he was the one creating most of the issues.
      Jesse said Walt ripped him off when Walt never stole from him.
      Jesse got his second g.f murdered bc he tried to escape, and he knew by escaping what the consequences would be, but he decided to run anyway....
      It was only after the fact that Jesse ever felt guilty. Jesse was a spoiled egotistical self centered brat who always blamed other ppl for the situations he got himself into. He never let anyone explain themselves. Jesse was a complete p.o.s, and Walt should of went hiesenburgh on him after those rednecks took out walts brother in law. Jesse was one of the most annoying, most unlikable, irritating character I’ve ever witnessed.
      All the complaining, the btching and moaning between Walt and Jesse was funny on the first few episodes, but the show was hard to watch after the first season bc jesses voice started to become nails on a chalk board after a while. I seriously hated Jesse

    I like how he went from “Uncle Jack!” Into getting impressed by Walter’s machine gun at the end. It reflects his character perfectly, a person that shifts emotions rather than entangling himself deeply to them. Emotionlessly killing the kid after the train heist, it passed by like a river under a bridge until Jessie nagged about it, only then he felt sorry yet he returned to joke with Jessie afterwards as if nothing happened. Another example being when he killed Hank yet respected Walter and made him live, he imprisoned Jessie yet acted friendly towards him, he killed Andrea and said it was nothing personal. Such a sophisticated character with instant emotion shifts. It makes him one of my favorite characters.
