Couldn’t they just rename Cole to Takeda and replace his armour and blades with Takeda’s? Edit: guys..the movie already deprives from the source material...
I have absolutely no idea why they didn't do this. Takeda was exactly the sort of character they were going for except he was actually done well and had character. They're already using characters from the lore... so use them all. My only theory is that Cole is yet another in a long history of boring, milquetoast self-insert characters meant for the average moviegoer to use as their "in" to the universe.
Poorly casted to say the least... doesn't compare to the 1995 Shang Tsung played by Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa. He was the best villain in all of the Mortal Kombat films thus far.

@Bufu 4U the movie should have had a character who is reoccurring throughout the film. The moment you see him in the beginning, he sits down on a toilet and proceeds to take a shit. He reads and shits.
She was his daughter not his little sister 😂 I know it threw many people off (me included) because the girl was like 13 and the actor playing cole looks 25 despite being 33 😅 But that was Cole's kid.
The actor, Lewis Tan, wanted to play an actual MK character. I can only imagine his expression as they said to him, "You're going to play... Cole Young." Lewis (puzzled): "Who? Who is that?" Director: "New character. Not in the video game. He's from the original script. Greg Russo decided to add someone from his own experiences without integrating the character properly into the universe, thus making him a fish out of water. " Lewis (dejected): "Oh. So do you have someone playing Liu Kang?" Director: "Yeah. But.. but.. you're still the main character."

Imagine if in the next movie, they reveal that Cole's dad is actually Kenshi and that he meant to name Cole Takeda instead. I would really love it if they tied down those 3 more. Especially due to how they built Takeda up in MKX.
The only part about Cole that really threw me off was that even though he was a decendant of Hanzo Hasashi a very clearly Japanese man they gave Cole a Chinese last name. Like I get that can happen in real life especially after so many generations but it just felt like an odd deliberate choice to make. Like especially with Bi Han the man who slaughtered them all being Chinese it feels like it should mean somthing but literally has zero value in the script.

I do actually love that scorpion talks in Japanese throughout the entire movie, says get over here in English, then continues to only speak in Japanese. This film is cheesey action comedy, everyone is treating it like a proper serious drama
The entire MK storyline should be taken with a more serious tone. This was if the characters of MK had a day off to fuck off and not follow the original script. The dinner scene was a Kano roasting session. Kano's training was him acting like a jackass even though he's the leader of a world wide criminal organization. This movie's a joke.
@@DCul No, it shouldn’t. MK will always be a cheesy, violent filled fighter game/movie. I think a part of that for me after watching it was it tried to be both, and it didn't bode well. The second half of the film definitely felt rush. I feel like they took a lot of time to build up and then there was only 30 min left in the movie so they rush to the fighting scenes and the end. Side note: is nice to know they kept up with the original movies in making raiden completely useless.
I like how in the more recent games, Raiden was the main character trying to right his wrongs but also trying to train Liu Kang. The took that idea and said, "What if Liu Kang had one fight scene and Raiden did nothing but put up a lightning barrier for the whole movie? 😃"

The entire MK storyline should be taken with a more serious tone. This was if the characters of MK had a day off to fuck off and not follow the original script. That seems to be what we were ALL expecting. Don't why the writers didn't go this route. Sometimes the obvious choice _can_ actually be the best one. But oh well...
Liu Kangs fight with Kano was a hilarious game reference. Liu hits Kano with Down Hard Kick 3x in a row. Calls back to anyone that's ever played MK with a little brother or friend and all he does is mash down hard kick. I felt that scene soo much and I appreciated that subtle reference.
I just wished there was an actual tournament. They killed so many people before the tournament started.
Meh death in MK never really matered
Like they always come back
@@plaguedoctorjamespainshe6009 that’s actually not really true. Some characters return but a lot of killed off characters stay dead for multiple games. Only exceptions were the revenants that were revived and the 2 timeline reboots
@Tik Toks Greatest Moments we all already know that.. go be "smart" somewhere else
@Tik Toks Greatest Moments Regardless, Kung Lao already being dead is a massive disappointment. His and Liu Kang's relationship development and brotherhood would have given a lot to work with in later films. IMO
@Tik Toks Greatest Moments That's honestly good to know
The sub zero and scorpion stuff was amazing felt like a different movie
Should’ve been a different movie
a mortal kombat tradition of this being the directors first movie lives on
Omg I want Noel Miller’s reaction to that! 😂
Cole literally got plot/protag armor, that was his power.
Batman and John Wick are jealous.
Yooooooo someone who gets it. When they released the intro to the film I was all for it, till I heard the new age techno house music playing behind a samurai time piece that’s meant to draw you in and feel for scorpion losing his family, nope loud ass beats to make cutting down enemies look badass. If they had went with a traditional flute and string music from that time, it would have hit harder for me cause the music is in sync with the time period it’s in.
That's wild I never knew people were actually saying that Mk was worse than the second, just wow...
Yeah, the humanity herd IQ keeps dropping by the day. I bet these idiots haven't watched Annihilation recently.
@@Qwertzalcoatl Annihilation was so fucking bad
I enjoyed MK i thought it was a huge improvement and fit well.
I genuinely believe it is worse than Annihilation and that is saying something.
This movie is just a prettier Annihilation
This is mortal kombat I went in expecting a crazy violence and references and got crazy violence references and that's probably why I really enjoyed the movie.
Yeah have you ever played MK or are you a casual fan? The story takes itself very seriously, and this movie was basically power Rangers with an MK logo slapped on for a quick cash grab. It’s easily a 2/10
@@harveyquinn3535 I can understand if you don like the movie but a 2/10 is really harsh. 2/10 really bad. I don’t even think annihilation is a 2/10. This is at least a 6/10 if 5 is just an average unremarkable movie.
Also I don’t think this is a cash grab because reverence for the games. ( the newer games). I could see the characters from the game doing these fighting moves and doing these kills. The fights really make me feel like I’m watching the perfect mk movie (Especially near the end). Between the fights, yeah we can talk about that. There’s issues.
@@Me-bj4uf idk man Annihilation was bad because of the super rushed writing and slashed budget. But at least they stayed closer to the source material than this garbage. The jump cuts and shaky cam and basic action sequences are unacceptable for a movie based on a Kung fu video game
People act like directors cant make there own vision of a movie
@@harveyquinn3535 2/10? Wow. You must think Annihilation deserves an Oscar. You think with a flop like that garbage a studio will dump MCU funding into another one? They did the best with what they had. My main issue was after they got their asses kicked the story got super rushed and no meat and potatoes. Just a round 2 battle out of nowhere. Really hope the sequel pulls through. Overall. 7/10. Very entertained.
yeah, wtf is that cole young, MK already has hundreds of good characters to be protagonists, they couldve went with a downey junior/tony stark inspired johnny cage, a troubled life chinese fighter Liu (ex monk or something) seeking redemption just like the first movie, a kung lao guy looking for his missing brother, soooooo many options......
Fuck yeah! In the end they only beat Subzero by ganking him, laaaaaaaame, KOMBAT is all about 1v1's, DAFUQ
edit: it would be hard to top the first movie soundtrack, but they should've tried to follow the same path imo
1. Every character already mimics Downey Jr in marvel movies. It's why no one goes to see them anymore, the quippy sarcasm gets old fast.
2. They didn't have Johnny Cage because, in the directors own words, he didn't want to cast a white lead for the movie. Which is ironic because Kano was the best part about the whole thing.
My favourite lines from Reiko and Nitara was when they screamed. When they screamed is a close second.
I don't know how it tastes but Magic Spoon has the most corporate art on those boxes.
i cant even believe it was only two hours, the pacing was so good it felt short
Shout out to the fact they zoom randomly on Sonya for no reason in certain scenes and the way Liu kang holding his fist out staring at a wall when he introduces raiden
That magic spoon ad transition was clean af ngl
I hope for 2 things
1.FOR THEM TO NOT FUCK UP QUAN CHI
2.And That they nail the Johnny Cage Casting and make it an AWE-SOME one (Wwe the miz)
So I think I'm in the minority here, but I actually kinda liked Cole. I can really see him developing later, and I have a feeling he'll show up in future game installments. I think my only major issue was this: Where is the original song? They use a remixed version of it during the credits and it is worked into the orchestral but.. seriously... where is the original iconic song?!?!?!
This was like a long trailer prequel for the real tournament movie, i hope they are saving it for DA tournament
Yeah, I wasn’t bothered by him. I just assumed he was from the games because I stopped following the series after Mortal Kombat 4. So that’s like 20 years of me not giving a shit. I imagine newer fans are going to be a lot more bummed than my blissfully ignorant ass. I was worried he was going to turn into Scorpion and I wanted to see Scorpion come up from Hell, so I’m glad I got to see that.
agree, i also didn't bother having cole in this movie at all. i think it's best they kept the storyline from the games and still make liu kang the champion, while cole as our proxy for the MK movie is witnessing and have his own character development... probably the arc is him learning more about his bloodline.
