The historical accuracy in “The Witch” is amazing. The houses used in filming were built from scratch using tactics that people from that time would use. Lighted only by candlelight and sunlight.

The Witch and The Lighthouse are proper masterpieces, can't wait to see Eggers' new movie The Northman, starring both Anya Taylor Joy and Willem Dafoe, both of whom he worked with and who gave incredible performances. Glad he got the ball rolling with the Witch

Trick or Treat is unironically one of my favorite horror movies.its so goofy in parts and grim on others, it's just a fun watch.
William's voice sounded incredibly familiar, so I looked him up, and it turns out his actor also voiced Charles Vane in Assassin's Creed 4, which was one of the best voice acting performances I'd ever heard. This, in addition to how much I loved The Lighthouse, really makes me set aside some time to watch this movie before Eggers' next film comes out.

*The VVitch* is 100% a horror. It's a shame that nowadays horror movies are synonymous with jumpscares, although movies like *Hereditary* and (my personal favourite) *Midsommar* by Ari Aster remind me of old horrors like *The Shining* .
Being startled by loud, sudden noise and being scared are two different things.
I love how the majority of the movie it’s almost a psychological thriller because there’s so much that could be someone’s paranoia and as an audience we are left doubting what is real. It isn’t until closer to the end of the movie that we really see the full horror
@@DankrumStar Well, to be honest they could have left the part that you see the Witch to the 3rd act; I don't want to write down any spoiler, but that tension in movie is between characters, and it could have been extended to the viewer with that small little adjustment. I guess the author wanted to show us early on to blur the lines between folklore and reality and immerse us in that world.

Trick 'r Treat is my absolute favorite Halloween movie. It's just so perfect for the season. It isn't anywhere near horror for me, it's almost like the nightmare before Christmas, or like home alone. Just gives that vibe.
The Witch is a bonafide modern masterpiece. Best film of 2016 hands down.
I think you might like "The autopsy of Jane Doe". This movie is pretty good, I liked the mystery and detective side of this movie, it has some scary moments and, sadly, some jumpscares, but I won't say they are too distracting (I remember only like two).
The second this video started I just fuckin cackled because of the randomness of the Raiden costume, 10/10
Trick R Treat actually took me by surprise when I first saw it and was happy it turned out to be a excellent movie that I have enjoyed watching multiple times. Now I must check out The Witch sometime soon because I just enjoy watching creepy type film's regardless the time of the year.. -Mercy(sorry for the name confusion I am on my dad's phone at the moment)
I love Trick or Treat. It came out when horror movies were disappointing and I really needed to see a good one from the US. I watched a bit of The Witch, but turned it off about a quarter of the way in. I think I got bored with it because I was just really tired and my ex had said how slow and boring it was, so I gave up. I've often thought about going back and giving it another chance. I really should do that.
You know, the "I didn't land in Plymouth" was such a good joke and I haven't seen anyone talk about it.

I absolutely agree. When I saw this film years ago, the horror genre had been quite disappointing for some time. Trick or Treat was like a breath of fresh air, or rather a gust of eerie, spooky wind.

I'd got a short glimps of "The Witch" in a friend's home but completely forgot the title and all, but do remembered it to be a great watch. I've been pondering for months that I needed to watch a horror movie which I've seen somewhere but can't exactly remember anything about it or whose house where I'd come across. Hell yeah, Trick r Treat. I watch that movie *every* Halloween. It's my favourite. And each time I catch something new I didn't notice before. Plus, Sam is just adorably creepy and weird. The movie isn't really all that scary, but it just exudes a 'creepy-fun' kind of energy that reminds me of the old Tales from the Crypt Keeper show.
Okay, these are two of my favorite horror movies (with the V-V-Vitch being one of my favorite movies of all time ever), so I'm really excited for my boy GG to be on the right side of history with this one. Right, my dude?

I always liked how direct "The VVitch" is, while having so many layers to dissect.
It's a reilgious toned horror, a supernatural movie, a drama about a family and a story about how a whole group of people got cabin fever all at the same time.

On my latest GG re-binge and I can’t believe I missed it the first time but that Tony Hawk Pro Skater noise threw me right back to 2005 playing Pro Skater 4 for the first time with the Jango Fett Skin. Love it.
Honestly Trick R Treat is a brilliant and fun Halloween watch. It’s so festive and I fuckin loved my ass off when watching the first story. Unlike A LOT of anthologies I watch, I loved all of Trick R Treat’s stories, while not scary, they are still great watched for Halloween, and they all tie together so godamm well! Also the VVitch is a masterpiece of a period piece, religious family drama and psychological horror film.
i bought the trick r' treat comic and the movie makes so much sense in a comicbook format, and the extra additions made it a super good buy, if you like the movie and like to read i give it a 100% recommend for the Halloween season

I don't know if this has been recommended before, but Midsommar is a pretty interesting movie, a sort of a daytime horror.
I definitely recommend watching "I saw the devil" if you haven't already. its one of the best revenge-thrillers I've ever seen and it just leaves you sitting there like "what the fuck did I just watch"
Trick r Treat is the comfort popcorn flick, The VVitch is the one that makes you think and experience it. Either way they are both in my top 10 horror movies list and I love them very much.
I love both of these films. Trick R Treat is just goofy fun but done with finesse. And The VVitch is one of the greatest middle fingers to Christian ideology and despondency for parents to fully understand, grow from, and hopefully reemerge wiser to embody for the future.
My 2 cents are spent, luckily, I'm blessed with change.

I have a movie but isn't a Halloween movie. It is a Christmas Horror film called Krampus. It came out in 2015 that one of the actors was in the movie Step Brothers (I know, I know... not the greatest moments to bring in a comedic film into a horror film but trust me) and the son from Bad Moms (look at the other parentheses pleaae). Again, I know I'm early BUT I wanted to shoot my shot before Christmas rolls around.

I know I’m 2 years too late but I am absolutely appalled that Trick r’ Treat is being given this treatment. I absolutely love it! It’s creepy and the comic book sections are well done, plus I love the Halloween aesthetics!

The fact that I heard GG’s outro music playing in another apartment in my complex as I was watching this video is iconic.
I love the plot of The Witch. It reminds me of the crucible obviously because witch hunts. But the idea of a witch hunt is so scary and when you realize that most of the movie is being ripped apart because of the family and not the witch herself is so deep and wild. Like Your own family is willing to you because of a false wild claim is so fucking scary.
I know a lot of people love the VVitch but I fall into the camp of finding it polarizing and absolutely hating it. I actually attended a re-enactment of a witch trial when I took a trip to Virginia, the movie was akin to that so I knew what to expect historically speaking. I watched it with my bestie who is also a horror connoisseur and we both came to the same conclusion, the atmosphere was incredibly well done it was perhaps TOO immersive. I started to feel completely disconnected and even bored at times like I was living with this family, like I was taking a lackluster stroll through dead fields. Elvis described it as getting into the feeling of unease as you unravel the mystery, but that only works if you genuinely connect with the characters and I didn't like a single one.
The worst part was watching it without closed captioning available. The father's bassy voice was so fucking low we had to rewind a million times just to hear what the fuck he was talking about and it was just about unbearable to move the story along. If we had the option we would have used it, for a horror so based in story dialogue it's kind of a problem if the viewer can't follow the story . The 'scary' or thrilling parts were jarring and I suppose that gets some people, but to me it was incredibly nerve grating in the worst way. I can't understand, relate, or care about the characters so by the time they were sent to their deaths I truly did not care and again, I wanted to love this movie. The viewing was immersion breaking but at attempts to watch it again I found myself still completely hating it. I love slow burns, I love mystery horror, but the Korean movie The Wailing is what I wanted the VVitch to be for me and it just wasn't.
The Wailing took a similar approach in creating a mystery world with citizens who didn't know anything thrown in. The VVitch and The Wailing both had this key feature of lingering and repeating sounds with no music, so you hear constant screams, drum beats, and of course repetitive wailing. I remember that movie made me want to get up out of my seat, I felt so uncomfortable with the noise manipulation. The VVitch however made me want to turn it off, I wasn't in an atmosphere of unease but one of annoyance.
I know people will hate on my comment that genuinely like this movie but everyone has their own experiences. I personally still hate it and I fail to see how anyone enjoys it more than a one off.
The Wailing was shit and racist to boot, so not surprised by your bad taste in horror movies.

The witch isn't in old English. Old english was spoken between the 400s and 1100s. It's also not middle English. This movie takes place in 1630, so its actually early modern English being spoken.
Trick r' Treat is a favourite. Watch it whenever I'm in the mood for old fashioned creepy fun.
VVitch is boring and overwrought. It's a struggle to sit through, with no characters that are likable or that can be identified with.

The Witch Is Awesome, I Remember the first Time I saw it was on Netflix, the movie has a old style horror/drama to it, that just keeps you glue to watch it till the end
I don't think you're supposed to be rooting for anyone in Trick 'r Treat. The weird girl leaving everyone to die wasn't something to praise, since the boy actually liked her from the beginning and genuinely cared about her and didn't mean for her to get hurt, yet she left him to die with the others out of blind bitterness. Sam isn't there to punish the evil ableist guy because he wants justice, he just likes inflicting pain and isn't repelled by evil old man remorse but pacified by candy. The principle guy wasn't a vigilante figure that takes out the bad kids, he was getting off on assaulting women while pretending to be a vampire. The werewolf chicks didn't set out to punish a pervert, it just ended up happening among the bodies of all the innocent people they've eaten. The old guy got mauled by the kids he killed, but we've already seen them kill indiscriminately so it just happened to be him as well. Sure, you can see yourself in one of those roles and feel like justice was served, but that's the real horror - people feel like revenge is justice regardless of what they actually did while enacting it.

So the comment you made about the horror movie being a family drama, with dread, I find funny, because all of my favorite (and what I would consider to be the best) horror movies are like that. Films like Hereditary, The Exorcist, The Blackcoats Daughter, they are all films centered around family strife that is caused by an outside “spooky” source.
