- A BLOODY LONG RUN - EPISODE 2: Something was wrong. I was attempting to be the first person to run McMillans walking track- a route cut into the remote and rugged Australian mountains in 1864 by the men of infamous mass murderer Angus McMillan. 55km into the proposed three day run, contouring the steep flanks of the Crooked River, it occurred to me that I hadn’t leaked all day. Out of touch from the crew, slow and getting slower, daylight running out, it was the first time in a decade I wasn’t up for the job.

Sandy's quotes about your misfortunes on the trail is absolutely one of my favourite parts of this video. "It's unusual that you actually didn't stop for one minute and think before you went any further" xD
Lay in the water and calm down... such a sensible plan. Hindsight is 20/20 though, but still.
She nailed it. Geeze Beau, what the hell were you thinking...
I just came on to ask if Sandy and Cheryl quotes were general or directrd at Beau specifically, so thanks... 😅
Well they aren’t called Elders for nothing, their wisdom goes beyond what most of us can conceive.
Does anyone know where this quote (or the others like it) are sourced? Very interested in further reading
This is what RUclips is missing. Fast paced, attention grabbing, gamification is what the modern platform has become... Beau's videos are a breath of fresh air and after each one I question if 'what I am currently doing is what I should be'. Thanks Beau!
What a clever use of the title. myself and I imagine many others clicked on this series thinking something along the lines of "this guy found the escape route of a mad serial killer running from the law or something" and then slowly learning how it was someone actually praised despite the death caused because the victims were indigenous. It shocks you how it was normalized where if you did the same thing on random people today it would make headlines worldwide. Brilliant
Yep 200 years ago death was everywhere and common place
Thanks for watching and thinking mate
The same or similar happened in Canada they had residential schools, fires, murders, except here they had truth and reconciliation, which is an ongoing process. was a good video and thanks for running. @@BeauMiles
@@cherylsibson2529 truth and reconciliation... making everyone think they murdered children on purpose
@@cherylsibson2529 I think it rings true for anyone living in a colonised country around the world...and important that we all do stop and consider
Beau's pure happiness at his kidneys working properly on attempt #2 is a level of gratitude for life that I aspire to.
What a great vid as always mate. I've just gotto say, how good is Charlie! I could tell when you were questioning yourself for thinking about the destination too much, you wanted him to agree with you and say yep, don't be stupid Beaudie, but, he won't give you that. He's just endlessly understanding, compassionate and supportive. How lucky to have him on your crew!
I reckon!
"everyone needs a charlie"
It's so true. Good friends that stand by your side and help you out are invaluable. Just make sure you're returning the favor.
Beau!! You have inspired me to slowly collect enough camping gear to get out there on solo hikes and trail runs! My parents cannot believe the transformation; I grew up on the Murray river and endlessly complained when they dragged me out camping, now I am a fully fledged mountain goat. Your videos and the Aussie bush have called me home!! Thanks mate for injecting me with that sense of adventure. It’s the best rush!!
Oh, you are a good egg. Go get it tiger. B
🙌@@BeauMiles
Beau you're making a Canadian want to visit Australia with this series mate
"Everyone needs a Charlie." What a ledge, a true Samwise to Beau's Frodo
You continue to be an amazing entertainer, educator and inspiration Beau
I think you're right; you're couch would be better than mine
I love the quote by Archilochus which says “we don’t rise the the level of our expectations, we fall to our level of training” sounds like you learned this the hard way Beau! Glad to hear you’re back at it cob, best videos on youtube…
Ta mate. Yep, needed more vert!
I grew up in the NT and the feeling on having as much water as you can get but still feeling amiss of electrolytes is something ive gotten SO sensetive too. Its such a different feeling from being exhausted or drained. Good on ya
Shortly before 10 am in Germany and Beau is back with the second part of the run! Yes! 🎉
Great having you here from a brilliant part of the world my friend
Gibts doch nicht, ich dachte, dass ich der einzige deutsche Zuschauer bin! 😆👍
Nö gibt mehr von uns ;)
Falsch gedacht ^^
We're everywhere.
I really appreciate you telling this full story, failures and all, normally everything you see online is all glossy and perfect. It is refreshing to see failure embraced and the lessons learned being put to action. Thank you for this Beau.
Waited very patiently for this. Well done Beau
Thanks, patience.
It's such a pleasure to bear witness to your adventures. Cheers Beau! Thanks for bringing us along.
Your story telling suggests that you are not just a ginger incomer, but rooted in the soil on which you run, in order to give life to those stories that landscape holds.
Joyous in every word and step.
He’s a true blue Aussie and proud of his history
When is the next part coming? I can't wait!!! Thank you so much Beau for these amazing films you always make!
Yikes, so glad you recovered well from getting cooked. I have cycled into the edge of serious electrolyte imbalance several times. Like you, drinking as much as I can stomach, with food and electrolytes. My metabolism just can't keep up with the sweat and effort that I can exert on days in the mid-90 F (35 C) and above. So the practice I have instigated, is to ride no faster/harder than I can pee. If I haven't had a wee in two hours, I back off, way below threshold and just focus on water, food, and electrolytes. I keep the throttle way down until I pee, then I can ramp up again. Super important when I'm riding technical trails solo in remote places. I love what you do and the stories you tell. Looking forward to the next chapter!
I think we should all aspire to be a bit more like you and charlie mate. Well done, Thats hard yakka.
As a scotsman this is fascinating and as always Beau tells an excellent story! Ive ordered Thicker than Water to learn more about Angus McMillan and colonialism masked as a 'Pastorial duties'. Cant wait for the remaining episodes
My heart skipped a beat when I saw a new Beau video. Always feel inspired after your videos and have even taken on my own " beau" style adventures!
Love it when a new Beau video comes out to watch just before bed here in NZ bloody good
Make it a late one mate
I don't live that far from you Beau, and watching your stories about the High Country has got me wandering around up there, looking for the view points and historical markers.
I feel a need to understand this place we call home a bit better, but I'm not sure I'll ever run the trails
You inspire thousands of people around the world to think about their own paths they take, connect your senses in the present and be the best you can be while understanding your weak points. I love you for that Beau!
Excellent video Beau as always. Every video reminds me of my Grandad and childhood - out running and adventuring in the Vic Alpine region and experiencing the outdoors. Even Charlie’s Myrtleford Savoy cap gave me a laugh as I played for Savoy all throughout the school years. Looking forward to the next video.
This is a gem of a story Beau! Your stuff is the best on RUclips, hands down. Love how the crew is becoming an integral part of the story!
Glad to see it!
Always a pleasure to follow you along on an adventure 99% of us would never even consider attempting. I’ll always be more than happy to live vicariously through your channel. But, you’re also one of the few people who actually inspire me to get out and explore the world surrounding my tiny little bubble of existence. And I’m sure the majority of other subscribers would feel the same!
Cheers buddy, all the best. Until the next episode.
Thanks Deac. Cheers for being here mate.
I've been waiting a bloody long time for the second episode. Well worth the wait 😂 thank you, Beau
What a great video Beau! I’m so stoked for the next part to come out, I really like the series format that you’ve been working with lately and would love more in the future!
Awesome video mate! What a legend Charlie is
This is so good!! I am excited for the next instalment. I love your content and have planned several lessons for my class around wellbeing based on your videos. Keep doing you're thing!
Bloody hell mate you've been an inspiration for me. I love how you tackle adventure, interweaving stories and running. Your persistence to complete this trail is more amazing, not many blokes would re-attempt such a risky run. I hope to see what story will be made afterwards.
I found you because of the running content many years ago and I love seeing this stuff! GREAT JOB! In ultra running we don't fail, we learn...we always learn. When undertrained or not, slow and smart is alway the best plan. Never give up only tray again!
Having just finished all the other videos on the channel, so pleased to see this today. Such great story telling.
I think this is my favourite series that you have done! The story you are telling is heartbreaking but at the same time the journey you are taking is incredible. I cannot wait for next episode!
Amazing to see this captivating story and the fact that you didn't let the first attempt be the end of it. Your perseverance is very inspiring, Beau.
Truly such a good story teller, Beau. Look forward to watching more of this journey and hearing your take on it. Thanks for doing this and letting us watch!
Wow. Masterful storytelling (again, as per usual!). Hard to boil down what I leave with every video, but the common thread is a desire to be increasingly present in myself, my surroundings, and more fully steward what I am capable of. Thanks to you and your team for creating a reliably wholesome corner of the internet for us all to relax and reflect.
glad you didnt keep pushing on the first run mate need to look after yourself thats for sure. awesome content as always
Great video; looking forward to part 3!
I always enjoy and am inspired by your adventures! Thank you!
I really look forward to seeing what you're up to next mate. I'm about to upheave my own life and bugger off somewhere very out of my comfort zone. Your videos and your book have been a great source to draw from. Makes me think that with a bit of effort, determination and positive outlook, that I'll be apples. Cheers mate, you're a bloody legend
Nature, a good long run and history - what a wicked coombination! Thank you so much for sharing your adventures and for creating this wonderful content. Blessings and good on you and Charlie!
I know you typically do single video films (besides Bass by Kayak), but I'm really enjoying the story and pace of this segmented film. Can't wait for episode 3!
Ta mate
Beautiful! Not just another crazy Beau adventure to inspire us, but some thought provoking stuff on the path we walk, and the footprints we leave. Another BM classic, keep using that unbreakable body super power and keep em coming Beau!
I think you've got the most infectious good attitude and can-do never back down spirit on RUclips, Beau! Amazing video, and storytelling as always. You inspire more people than you know friend.
Cant wait to be able to show this series to some of my students throughout the year. Thanks Beau you're truly one to look up to in our industry with your insightfulness
These videos always make me want to adventure more! It's so nice seeing an Aussie make such beautiful videos like these!
You are an inspiration to me Beau! I religiously watch all the videos, and even try to emulate what you do in them (I tried and failed a mini version of your 1mile an hour for a total of a day marathon). It was cool to try it though haha. You sir are a very special person! Keep it up! Thank you for rekindling the curious fire that I had as a kid!
Been waiting for this - my partner and I will watch it tomorrow morning with our espressos pre-work. Looking forward to it.
Date breaky! love it
Loving this series brother. Your narration is always insightful and introspective. Keep up the most excellent work :)
Awesome as always. Thank you Beau, for taking us somewhere most of us will never see.
really enjoying this new series. was waiting for part 2, now waiting for the next one
My mind tends to drift during these epic adventures you share with us on the tube, it drifts in search of my own epic adventure, something I’ll remember for ever, thanks Beau for inspiring me to look outside the box when it comes to trail running 👍🏼
Incredible production, inspiring efforts from you all and a brilliant interweaving of stories, can't wait for the next episode!
Love this video Beau! Thanks for sharing your adventures with us
Well done Beau and gang, I think you really encapsulate what I love about overnight hiking, and by deciding to redo it not only for the fact of overstressing your body but also due to inability to keep the central theme in mind shows a lot of strength and understanding.
Left me on a cliff edge last week - thanks for the quick follow up , great film!
I can't believe I didn't know Beau until yesterday. A refreshing, inspiring and positive view on life.
Beau continuously reminds me of the importance of good story telling, it's a skill and it's one of our most innate human traits, some can't do it and captivate their audience but some really do hold a space and can truly wield that power.
Nice one Beau, you are my greatest teacher 🙏
Bloody great stuff Beau! Loving following your journey and what the elders have to say.
A few weeks before episode 1 came out the missus and I spent two days hiking up Little Tamboritha and the Crinoline sections of the track (about 45km section) and I thought how f$&ing crazy it would be to do the whole lot.
And now you’re showing us Beau. Legendary. Inspirational. Hard nut. Can’t wait for Ep 3 and see how pull through the next section.
I bloody love you Beau, your spirit, your attitude, your sense of adventure and ethos on life, love it all, good on ya!
Absolutely love your story telling and adventures. It’s inspiring. Thank you.
You're a bloody inspiration mate. Keep doing good stuff!
You're such an inspiration, mate 🙏💖
Can't wait for the next part!
This is fantastic 🙌 looking forward to the next part
Beautiful Beau, and team! Can't wait to see the next of this adventure! And the next, and ...
Glad to see you’re ok and back to yourself. Thanks for making another great video
Bloody love ya Beau, magnificent content as usual. Love how its made and your commentary.
Thanks for making these videos Beau.
I’ve been waiting for this one! Great series
You’re such an epic story teller, Beau! Can’t wait for episode 3!
You are one of the best visual story tellers.
Glad you're all right.
I've never felt more like dying an ultra in my life.
I’ve been waiting for this for ages! Can’t wait to see you you pull through mate!
Indeed mate. See how old knackers does!
Beau Miles - born to be a maker of stories and how to tell them. Most of us will have been unaware of McMillan until you started these videos. Thanks mate.
Brilliant, been looking forward to this, Beau 👏🏼
Absolutely fantastic Beau. I feel incredibly inspired. Thank you!
No, Tom. Thank you mate. Goodonya
lovely story mate, truthfully inspirational I want to get out and run!
Always a great story teller. Thank you to you and your team for making such great short films. You inspire, maybe not 220km ultra marathon inspire but definately something more haha.
I'll take anything (inspiration...) ta Kingo
I'm glad you stopped your run the first time you ran it and started again with a better mind and feeling much better in yourself. Always love your videos Beau
Such a beautiful scenery. Hope you do more runs in the future just because the nature is so amazing.
Love love love your storytelling. This is TV broadcast quality. Your videos and what you do in them is inspirational. Can't wait for next episode.
Ta mate
Watching from Birmingham, UK. As an aussie on the other side of the world for work, I love to watch your stories to remind me of home (land, history, people). On ya mate, ta!
The highlight of my day was watching this video! I absolutely love the story telling as you run ☺
Was waiting for this for long, you're one of the reasons i run, you go beau!!!
Oh shucks. I like this. Keep rollin out those miles my friend. Thanks for being here
Love this series! Can’t wait for the next episode to come out.
Brilliant stuff, as usual, always good to see failure being recognised, understood and used to try again, the second time around on the same trails, I bet it was different. cannot wait to see how you get on, thanks again.
Incredible effort mate.
I hiked it last November. I went solo and and unassisted and it was the hardest thing ive ever done in my life.
It was a bit emotional watching you do it!
Your a machine having the balls to run it. Dropping in and out of Mayfield, the Moroka River Wilderness section and the vertical climbs up Mcmillans track and the one just after Black River were my high/lowlights!
Super impressed by your effort!
Wow! Great episode! You guys taking us with you, through this. Absolutely Great!
Nice to have it out there finally!
Beau mate, you’re an absolute icon. Love these videos!
Isn't it great that you can still learn something when you don't expect it? I think that doing it the second time around is even more meaningful. Thank you for sharing.
Wonderfull video once again!! Exited about this series!
Can’t wait for episode 3! So good mate
That’s some top notch storytelling Beau. Makes me even more interested in the history of it all
Can I just say that the camera work at 6:38 was really well done! Shifting focus in time with what naturally took interest... just wow!
Seriously mate, hats off to your story telling. It's bloody brilliant
Awesome episode. They all are. This one with the unplanned drama that’s real was what made it special.
I love the repeat of the first day. It is quite the lesson for life to get up and do the same thing that you've done before. Some days will be successful, others won't.
I like that you look forward to the end of the day when you can sit and have a conversation and some food. That's pretty much what we do everyday; we work all day and look forward to eating dinner with our families and talking a bit about how our day went. It is ingrained in our nature. We celebrate the daily successes and provide encouragement on the days that just dont go quite as planned.
I always enjoy the wisdom in your videos. It helps me to be a better and more confident parent to my teens.
