Great vid guys, we are the guys in the green GQ and the white hilux, that pajero also was tagging along with us until bamaga. After the crossing it took about and hour to dry out all the electrics on the pajero to stop the computer from shutting the engine down. By the time we got to bamaga the pajero still had heaps of the warning lights on and only could get 2nd gear. great trip though- thanks for posting.....
You have to walk this crossing to understand why everyone gets stuck where the Pejero did. If you hug the left or right bank, it is a much firmer surface. If you attemp straight through the centre, south to north, there is a very sandy boggy section in the middle. It is not the vehicle, but the line taken. First vehicle in our convoy got stuck, every other vehicle went straight through on the left or right bank.. It's just unfortunate for the trip leader if not walked correctly.. Notoruios xing
for driving through water, damage can occur if drive into water too fast. eg break fan blades, and if you dont notice it you can overheat or cook your engine.
The tarps over the front help this a bit, also being 2021 now most cars have viscous coupled fans so they just stop. Sometimes a little speed is needed to make it across. Or get lockers. But so true for old belt driven fans.
we crossed in a hilux with a camper trailer no turbo 2.8 diesel had my tyre pressure down to 10 pound with snorkel with cooper sst's in late June 2010. There is really no excuse of getting stuck here.
This vid confirms we made the right decision....we have recently traded our Auto Pajero for a Manual Prado....still will need to lift it, snorkle it...and any other suggestions before we go up there?
@TraxxasKing - It seems a weird trip to make if he is brand new to 4wding. Best tip is take a training course, make sure you & the car are ready, and then get to grips with things locally before heading out into the wild blue yonder.
@flava001 say that after you have crossed the nullabor in a pajero with suspension seats. also i own a 1990 pajer diesel and the most advanced piece of electronic equipment in it is the stereo so they are very good for crossing rivers. have had it up to the door handels in a creek and she still started first turn of the key
great Video and nice editing, im heading up there for the first time next week with my dirty old patrol. Im i little worried but im more woried for my mate taking his brand new D40 Navara. Might not show him this vid
I did this crossing in my patrol with no suspension 2 days before this (blew out airbag suspension). We met up with the owner of the pajero in seisa and turns out he had to boat his car back to cairns to get a reconditioned gearbox. Poor guy was brand new to 4wding and he says he is never doing it again! :(
Should have been driving a landcruiser, mine got through fine, was deeper too, had to pull a couple of pootrols through. Ps, ya didn't see and sunnies in the creek did ya? Lost mine having a swim there! Great stuff though!
Went through the tele track in a 100 series and never got one single drop of water come inside at all. Pajeros, and land rovers, were always flooded. If you tackle it at the speed these bozo,s are going yourasking for trouble.
@@Sschulzey i have heard about the fan potentially breaking due to this. But I have seen 4x4 not using this diving into deep water. Am I missing something? Like some kind of special fans?
samuel madeira Mate you cover the radiator/front of the Car so that when you go through you don't flatten the fins on the radiator. And if you don't have a snorkel it helps to a degree with preventing water getting into the air intake
To try and prevent water coming into the engine bay, if you keep momentum it should stay fairly dry. Plenty of electronics in there. Radiator fan becomes a propeller when submerged and rips itself forward into the radiator usually destroying it.
welcome to the cape hehehe my back yard,,,,too many cars have been taken by this crossing,,its a shame to end the trip this way,, but Get a NIssan TD42 and you will survive hehehe,,NISSAN is the only way hahaha
having a cruiser or patrol doesn't mean shit. If you're a shit driver you'll get bogged whether you're driving a cruiser, patrol or a freakin' tank! from the way that pajero driver was driving through that puddle he looked like he'd had a few too many 5 minutes before, had his wheels pointing the wrong way on recovery as well which just prolonged his dunk. If you're gonna do this track, get a bot of a clue how to drive the bush beforehand.. don't blame the pajero

Its not only the right 4wd it is the driver as well.

Can't believe there was a Jayco being towed to Cape York. I have an "Offroad" Eagle but would never consider for a second to take it a trip like that.

Water in diffs....for sure.....hot seals hit cold water......sucks it straight in

How'd it go?
were they(the first rig that got stuck?) crossing back and forth on the same day just for fun?
You need to change Pajero's driver

I think it all depend on the driver
nissan= no problems! i hate having wet feet! funny vid
Mobil e sangar
Padgero excellent
Why u got that rag on it
i.just seen a barramundie come out
Why go in so fast
Enough said..
Here's an idea. Put the recovery gear on BEFORE you go in.
Went through the tele track in a 100 series and never got one single drop of water come inside at all. Pajeros, and land rovers, were always flooded. If you tackle it at the speed these bozo,s are going yourasking for trouble.
sorry for my ignorance, why do they use that cover on the front end?
Because they don't have a snorkel
to avoid water breaking the front fan
@@Sschulzey i have heard about the fan potentially breaking due to this. But I have seen 4x4 not using this diving into deep water. Am I missing something? Like some kind of special fans?
@@jnr1989 You'd be fine without the tarp, we definitely could of not used it. But the extra security is never a bad thing.
@@Sschulzey I am always down for extra security so.... I would support trying this as much as possible

why do you cover the front of the car with plastic??

Utter amateur. Didn't walk it first, tyre pressures too high and entered the creek WAY too fast (just gently ease into it, like a gentleman).
AT 4:50 you will see who is boss hahaha GET a NISSAN hahaha
