Thank you for posting a great song from my favorite band. I haven't thought of it in terms of a person wanting to remove himself from life, but rather someone who has come to the end of his natural life and is unable to stay any longer, despite his promise to his loved ones. Ultimately, it's not up to us. It's a less tragic look at the song, but I do appreciate your take and your kind words to those who may be currently in despair.
Yes, Poets! Huge Dutch POTF fan here, basically since the start. They made the theme song for Max Payne 2 (Late Goodbye) which is how I discovered them back in 03/04 somewhere. They also recorded songs for games like Alan Wake and Control.
Been following them all these years. I'm an avid concertgoer (I visit 10-15 concerts a year on average) and Poets is the band I've seen live the most, followed by Alter Bridge and Shinedown. Live they're just as good as the album versions, throwing guitar solo's in some songs and having the warm, clear voice of Marko telling amazing stories.
If you wanna react to some more of them:
- Carnival of Rust (live in Moscow 2013), this is their biggest hit
- Temple of Thought (unplugged), my personal favorite
- Locking Up the Sun (more rock)
- The Ballad of Jeremiah Peacekeeper (a fantastic ballad)
- Rogue (instrumental song, brilliant song to see live)
- Children of the Sun (another ballad)
- Sounds of Yesterday and Hello Cabaret (the two best songs of the latest album IMO)

The beauty of these poetic songs is that they can be interpreted in many different wats depending on the listener and their current mindset. I love when music "speaks" to us with lyrics and everyone can translate them forself. Music is the finest thing that mankind has produced, for it is for everyone. Also, what is beyond our lives? I liked your reflection on the matter, really deep. I personally think it is the exact same state that were were in before we were born.
Music is wonderful end whta is so odd, is the fact, yhat you don't really need it for just to survival like air, food and water and no-one can really explain why they even like some music ... Music is like another totally different language that hits your soul a big time.

my personal interpretation of this is based on the entire album. I think it's about a person who is given eternal life, this is just when the protagonist realizes that they never truly wanted eternity.
The way I interpret the song is as being terminally ill and approaching death and acceptance of that.
