Poets of the Fall are a rock band from Finland. The band was formed in 2003 and to be able to pursue his love for music the singer Marko Saaresto sold everything he had and lived in his parents basement for some time before moving in with one of the band members whose living room they used as their studio. They produced their first 2 albums in this make shift studio of their's!
Also their music video "Carnival of Rust" (the title tracj from their 2nd album) was chosen as the best Finnish music video ever made back in 2006 and it hasn't been surpassed since then!
They immediately got some international recognition by doing a song called Late Goodbye for the end credits of the video game Max Payne 2. They got the chance to do the song because the game's head developer Sami Järvi was Marko's childhood friend. To this day they provide a couple songs for every Remedy Entertainment (Sami Järvi's game studio) games. They have made songs for the games Max Payne 2, Alan Wake, Alan Wake's American Nightmare, Quantum Brake and Control.
They have released 9 studio albums. They have 2 platinum and 3 gold albums here in Finland.
Even though they have gotten some big offers from recording studios they have stayed independent to this day so that they can make exactly the type of music they want. This has however lead them several times to situations where if their concerts didn't sell enough they would have needed to disband and declare bankruptcy. Luckily that hasn't happened and we get to enjoy new music from them to this day.

They have so much to listen, songs like Carnival of rust, Daze, False Kings, Requiem for my Harlequin. I suggest you start with the official music videos because they are amazing, then check the live version, because they are absolutely fantastic live band with Carnival of rust, Lift and Sleep from their Moscow concert in 2013 and some of the Alexander Theater Session with Lift and Angel. Just to get started.

This guy get it, just to add to this, if you do Angel it would be great if you do a double reaction to the album version and the Acoustic Version from the Alexander Theater Session

Welcome to my favourite band! The Poets span a massive range of styles - they love to play with genre, and while most of their songs (especially the older ones) are definitely more rock and sometimes even veering slightly into metal, you might also find a song that is more synth pop. They also have an alter-ego band called "Old Gods of Asgard", which they use for making music for video games such as Alan Wake and Control.
There's something for everyone, but some of my personal favourites are "Given and Denied", "Carnival of Rust" (the music video for that one is incredible), "War", "The Poet and the Muse", "Balance Slays the Demon" (as Old Gods of Asgard), "Requiem for my Harlequin" and "Beyond the Horizon". Also recommended: "Angel" (make sure you listen to the Alexander Theater Sessions version, though! It's very different from the album version). But, to be entirely honest with you, there isn't a single song of theirs that I dislike, and they have over 100 songs out already - so have fun on that deep dive!

I discovered them more than 17 years ago now and They have been Favorite modern band ever since. You should definitely check out more of their music It's Absolutely Incredible. And their Music Videos are Always Unique too.

just to mention they aren't necessarily a techno style band. Their general style changes and shifts between songs and albums with the consistent aspect for them being more in the style of song writing.
Some other songs I'd recommend to see some of their range:
Carnival of Rust (official music video)
    Choice Millionaire (official music video)
Dancing on Broken Glass (official music video)
Children of the Sun (official music video)
Temple of Thought (unplugged, an acoustic version they did)
    Psychosis
    Firedancer

Which is why I don't like their newer albums. It drifts away from their previous stuff, and they haven't sounded the same since. Also because a lot of their newer songs sound the same and some lack a strong hook.

Awesome reaction. Happy to hear another Poets of the Fall fan in the making. This song does not do the lead singer, Marko Saaresto, any real justice though. If you want to hear his best singing, check out the song, "Daze". The level of control he has in his voice is so much so that he sounds exactly the same live. Like 100%.

Oooo interesting. So there is soung out there with more vocal excellence! This is what I like to hear. Hopefully will be doing more soon. Cheers for watching. ECR!

Yes, Daze is a good option. For something early from them Late Goodbye, Lift and Carnival of Rust would be good options. For something from between, Temple of Thought (unplugged) , Cradled In Love and Can You Hear Me would be decent choices. For newer, they just released Requiem For The Harlequin and False Kings, Love Will Come To You and Choice Millionaire are also good choices.

Love that you've found these guys like I did only 2 couple of years ago.
You have to watch/listen to the official video of "Carnival of Rust" - that is the one that gets most people hooked.
If you like this one, then my I also suggest Lift and their latest single "Requiem for my Harlequin"
They are AWESOME live - saw them at Rock City Nottingham last weekend (14/05/2022).

Unfortunately you chose a song that while it is one of my favourites does not showcase his vocal talents to their full potential- Marko is a classically trained singer- his voice is unique and I haven't found anyone who can compare to him. Listen to some more of their back catalog- Carnival of Rust, Temple of Thought, Daze, The entire Alexander Theatre sessions, believe me, once you do that, you will see that he is more than 'just a regular good singer with a solid song behind him'

You can see the born of this scarface guy in the "False kings" music video (in the lirycs of this track he say: "We're False King and bastards" ).
The song of this music video is added in the "Control" videogame during gameplay (but you have to find it first like a cameo).

I first heard of this band from their collaboration with Remedy Games, on the Max Payne and Alan Wake series. Some members of the band are very close friends with one of the key team members at Remedy (sorry I don't know the actual names and with whom) and they pretty much always tag PotF to do music for their games. The In-Universe name for their band is The Old Gods of Asgard, and they actually have a pretty pivotal role to play in the Remedy game-verse if you will. So if you happen to come across YT suggestions for "The Old Gods of Asgard" when you are researching Poets, just know it's the same band, it's just their fake band name from the video game titles they did.
This song in particular is one they did for the recent title Control. But pretty much any Remedy game you play, there is probably at least 1 PotF song in it. They're great.
