Why I don't drink, a look into my past with alcohol - Battlefield 3 Gameplay Commentary

  • I don't drink alcoholic beverages. Not a moral nazi and not telling you not to drink. Quite the opposite actually, drink all you see fit and have great time! I, however, chose not to. This is a long commentary about experiences in my childhood that influenced my decision not to drink. The gameplay that you're seeing is three different games with my project PTFO partner / captainobviouzx . The first match is a 12v12 Squad Rush on Sienne Crossing on BF3 Xbox360 where we managed to defend in the first round. The other two matches are much more difficult 4v4 Squad Rush games on Kharg Island and Sienne Crossing again.

Drift0r, I know that this is a couple of years ago and it might be totally different now, and I know that he's your dad and I shouldn't be prying into your business, but if I were you I might want to see a therapist at some point. The classic abusive relationship has one person treating another one terribly sometimes, but being nice when they're sober/happy, leading the subject of abuse to conclude that they're a good person most of the time and that when their dad/boyfriend/girlfriend etc. is abusive, it's not really them. I'm sure you love your dad. Figuring out how to fix stuff like that (if you haven't confronted him before on it) could help both of you in the long run.
I loved the rest of your video. I almost never drink, but I admit to drinking under heavy peer-pressure, which often happens because all my friends are taking shots and I'd much prefer to just sit on a couch and do other things. Drinking is a social thing people do, and people judge you (subconsciously, consciously) if you don't drink. It sucks.

Not only do you feel like you are missing out on the fun, but at the same time, everyone's way too in your face and enthusiastic and I'm just sitting there all chilled, I hate it. Pro tip, if you drink and you're going out with your friends, do everything in your power to not be the driver for the night.

Drifter I doubt you will ever read this but I just wanted to say that you were the first RUclipsr I ever liked when I was around 11. I grew up with an alcoholic father and I always promised myself I would never drink due to seeing what the alcohol did to him and a lot of people would reply with “oh wait till you’re older you’ll definitely drink.” I remember watching this video for the first time years ago and being super happy that I could look up to you as a youtuber and a great influence because I could relate to a lot of things you said when you described your life with your alcoholic parents. Fast forward to just a couple weeks ago, my father unfortunately passed away due to a drug overdose and I can still say to this day I will never touch drugs or alcohol. Thank you driftor.

Since I discovered cannabis, my desire to drink went down to zero. As a diabetic, it's safer for me to consume cannabis rather then alcohol because I can't feel hypoglycemic symptoms, which can kill me, and alcohol leaves you more prone to hypoglycemia, which can also kill me.

This commentary was actually really helpful since I am "struggling" with few of those problems with drinking. I know many people from my grandparents families and so who are or were heavy drinkers and I don' really want to become like that.
Also I am afraid that I'd be aggressive or mean person when drunk since I keep all my feelings inside and usually only get angry by my self.
There are some reasons for me not to drink that you didn't mention, but hearing about somebody else having same kind of problems is somehow helpful.
P.S. No, I'm not against drinking. That's not the case :D

For alcoholism, if you strong willed, you might be ok... But I'm not an expert on that.
For how you would be when drunk, well if you don't punch first and ask questions later when sober (and aren't trying to suppress that), you should be ok on that side.
But for all, it really depends on the person.
When I'm drunk, well there the normal inhibition, I speak more and all... But I also stay smart.
Don't loose yourself to the effects of alcohol (or whatever).
      ...
When I drink harder alcohols, I enjoy good quality alcohols. I enjoy the flavor. And I can tell you, if all alcohols tasted like Mezcal (I have a bottle of that), I would not drink alcohol (because damn, Mezcal is some nasty stuff! It smells like burnt rubber/overheating car Parking breaks, and the flavor is... I forgot... But it ain't nice).

You need to Google Adult Child of Alcoholic ( ACOA Syndrome) What your parents did to you is not average or normal. You had a harsh, strenuous childhood. You could benefit from going to counselling or talking to other ACOAs in an emotional support group. The child is not supposed to raise the parents. The child is not responsible for triggering bad decisions by the parents.

drinking isn't all that it's cracked up to be... it puts your life on hold and if you do it a lot it holds you back from your potential... I do drink once in awhile and you're not missing anything. Drunks are always nasty if they have even the slightest temper when they are sober. I have been in the health care field for 24 years... the one thing we hate to do is take care of a person who has drank a lot during their life. one thing you don't realize is that you do have the gene... alcoholics crave the alcohol that turns into sugar in your system, that's why you crave sugar but in a non alcohol form, which is alright and I give you a lot of credit for knowing and seeing and learning from others experiences... we as humans never learn by others mistakes... great for you for seeing and breaking the cycle!!!! stay true and stay sober, life is better when you are sober!!!! always remember... alcohol only destroys what you build up sober!!!!!!!

Fact: If a man hits a child, he is not a good _anything_. He's human garbage and the _entire world_ would be _better_ with him, and everyone like him, _dead_
Fact: Parents who drink (or otherwise intoxicate themselves) to excess in front of, or while caring for, children are human garbage and the _entire world_ would be _better_ with them _dead_
Drift0r, you may love your parents but they _did not_ love you. Not as much as EVERY child _deserves_. If they did, they would NEVER have done those things. If they loved you they would have _died_ before they allowed those things to happen. You, and infact _everyone on earth_, deserves better from their parents

What is the definition of drinking here? Is it drink like in just drinking alcohol or is it like drink to get drunk? I have some wine, beer, cidre, etc. with friends, but I stop before them, because I like to stay in control of myself. So do I drink or do I not this way?

Drit0r, I kind of had a few things happen when I was 13 or 14 but a few times my dad threw me down the stairs after he got drunk and mad. So I kinda know how your childhood was. I feel for ya. And addictions run in my family so i got addicted to drumming and video games. And I also have a short temper and sometimes I feel like beating people to death. So I kind of know how your childhood wnet down. Good job for the vid and making it through your childhood.

You know, your reasons for not drinking, are shockingly similar to my own. While my dads not a douche on a regular basis (actually a pretty cool guy) he's gone to war and has gotten PTSD along with a bad drinking habit which he broke not to long ago. I try not to blame what he did on him, but it's hard. Well, anyways, after a lot of talks (and other things) he finally dropped the drinking habit, retired from the army and spends more time with the family.

Now I myself will never be able to drink I'm a kid at the moment but when I'm older I am not going to be able to because of a condition I have which I'm not going to go into great detail but because of It I will not be able to drink because it can be fatal, which of course I would not want to die...... also with your whole sweets thing, I'm the same ...also I love some food that has alcohol cooked out of them, like vodka sauce for pasta (penne alla vodka)

Good stories man, I would whole-hearted agree with your decision not to drink because of your family. I personally drink, very responsibly, but I started at a young age. Since high school I have had to cut out a bunch of people from my life because they were erratic alcoholics, some being very close friends of mine, and usually these people had a family history of alcoholism. They saw their family and said "fuck it" while you pre-emptively said no and I really respect that.

Everything in moderation, my friend. I drank A LOT when I first turned 21 mainly because I joined the military right when I turned 18, and missed out on a lot of social events due to being underage. But fast forward now and I'm 24, and I might have a single beer every few days, sometimes going weeks or months without any at all. It's overrated to me anymore. And when I do it's at home. I have a CCW so I can't legally drink while carrying even if I wanted to.

Drift0r, I normally don't comment on these vids, but I appreciate you being honest with us. I'm 19, and I come from a family of drinkers. Not alcoholics, but people that drink often. My dad was a bartender. I don't drink, but when I do, I drink for the flavor. I only drink high quality alcohol, because I don't want to drink just to drink. I want to drink to enjoy the flavor.

I think it's great that you don't want to drink alcohol, Drift0r. It's your life and your decision. You can do what you please. I think it's an admirable thing. Like you said, make up your own mind, don't let others do it for you. :)

In the beginning of October i bought two bottles of vodka and drank a little every other day and those two bottles ran out at the end of the month. Thanksgiving was my first time drinking since october. I had three bottles of beer on an empty stomach then i got dizzy and i started trembling 2hours after i drank and couldn't stop for 2more hours. I dont plan on drinking again.

I quit drinking pop drinks (Coke, Sprite, Pepsi, and etc). I usually drink Chinese and Japanese tea, water and juice. That's all. And so people think I'm weird. No, I'm not weird. The taste of coke and those other pop drinks are just taste the same.
