A Port and Stilton (Stilton, Cambridgeshire)
It's a cracker, but what about the cheese? The team head to fromage-loving Stilton after a Roman cheese press is discovered in a ditch.
We're joined by Time Team's geophys supremo John Gater, who gives us a mini masterclass in his craft. As you'll see, this was a particularly good episode to showcase exactly what geophys can offer. So raise a glass of port (or a bottle of ale in John's case) and enjoy it with a slice of cheese!

The bantering between John and Stewart is priceless. Those two are most informative sources of the lives of the people being investigated and help paint a more complete picture.
I love John's humor and listening to his tuition.
This is one of the commentaries that I'm really gld I watched, less of a behind the scenes and more of an extention and explanation of the content of the original programme. Fantastic.
I've always found John's work fascinating and sometimes felt Tony's teasing of him reflected some of the credit he deserved. This explanation of the magnetic reflections and responses was great and so easy to understand. Thank you John for all the priceless work you have done for Time Team over so many years.
I’ve always loved watching true professionals at work.
That explanation was incredibly clear, very cool.
So interesting to hear this from John so informative and lovely to hear his memories of the site .
He was an incompetent fool.
I am absolutely loving these interviews. Time team was, and is my favourite programme!
I love all time team members but John Gater, Robin Bush and Mick Aston are my absolute favorites because I usually understood and retained everything they talked about.
The one team member I always wish had some air time and get to know is Ian, Phil's main GBD operator.
Excellent commentary, as always. Informative and entertaining.
This is one of my ten or so favorite rewatch episodes! I don’t even know why, I just like it a lot.
This is one of my favorites too. However, after watching it I have this urge to watch Monty Pythons cheese shop sketch. Don’t know why that is.
Wonderful explanations from John: Thankyou so much!
Thank you TT and John.
Ah wanted to hear if Francis Pryor ever went back to check that double enclosure ditch under the mature crop.
I love that my Quarantine beard matches John's. Good looking Fella.
Very interesting. Enjoyed John’s explanation of the geophys readings. I always found that fascinating.
I'm taking a Geophys course right now and this is actually really useful info!
man every time I hear the new jungle it sends a shiver up my spine. And look at John playing at being a pirate hehe. Long live geophys!!
Does John realize he is a rock star in certain circles???
These videos are fantastic..just to hear everyone talking about archeology...still passionate. It certainly enhances the prospect of the 'comeback'. Cant wait, whatever the format...just live to see as many of the 'old' faces as possible.
I love that we've gone full circle and he's got a wonderful beard again.
It would appear John always has a pen in his hand whenever he does a talk :) I always remember the 90s pens he had as I'd occasionally get the same style bought for me from Asda by my mum :)
Sumo pen. Recognise it anywhere 😊
I remember one time he had the same pen my old Primary school had sold. One with little squares on the cap.
Saltaire Brewery (who are away from Saltaire at Windhill bottom, in the old Shipley Council municipal electricity works) really should give you some free beer John, as thanks for the one you paid for and drank on RUclips.
Very good, thanks guys.
Fascinating stuff!
A really fascinating episode with great discoveries that kept coming, plus excellent geophys magic/expertise.
Some "Stewart on a bike" T-shirts, or other merchandise I could buy to support the channel would make me very happy.
Like theses episodes.
Support what? Fool. They don't make these any more. Haven't for years.
@@Jenalgo he he. Keep up fool
@@Jenalgo - Oh, you cynic. The show rides again because the fans are supporting the show with their cash!
@@MossyMozart Not so. It's just a bunch of nomark dickheads now. Pale imitation.
I know if I was a saxon builder, the baked ground under that big kiln would make for a nice dry floor for my building.
I watched these people as a kid, now I see them getting old and it saddens me
Loving the beard John
This is a DELIGHT
Interesting!
Enjoyed this.
Get John on TV loads more good to hear him
"Could be for the geophysics!"
Drink for geophysics. Done!
John's put on some timber since the series ended.
Everyone's also gotten old. Still annoying that channel 4 won't release a box set of ALL the episodes. Streaming won't last forever but a box set can.
john's nails! lol!
I wonder if he plays guitar 🎸 like Phil?
Tim's rubbed vaseline on his webcam lens!
Again
