In Stilton, a Roman cheese press is discovered - part of a clutch of fine Roman objects found in the side of a ditch. As if digging down through several metres of Fenland bog to open up the ditch were not enough, Tony and the team realise they are in the middle of a rich archaeological landscape and soon make a shocking and unexpected discovery. In amongst the finds are the skeletal remains of a mother and child.

Absolutely love the programme
Did Francis ever go back? Did anyone?
i love trenches! #geophys
Not only very interesting but I was entertained the whole time. The teams enthusiasm on this dig was infectious.
Just love these shows so informative !
"How long has cheese had a *roll* in Stilton's history..." No wonder Tony's trying not to laugh - made my day!
I am jelous of the people of Britain to live over such ancient history! Herever they start digging, something ancient comes up! Love this show! Greeings from Canada!
And greetings from the US!
But I guess North America has more than 20,000 years of indigenous history while the UK only has about 6000, since the last ice age :) so North Americas history is many times more ancient than the UK
"Blessed are the cheese makers"
"I don't think it's to be taken literally, I think it refers to the makers of all dairy products"
Romani Ite Domummmmmmmmmmm!
What’s so special about cheesemakers?
@@franciscodanconia4324 Cheesemakers are Blessed, like the 'Greek'
Lol
Blessed are the Ale & Cheesemakers
That ending just tells you this needs to be brought back. TV gold.
People in charge pay attention this is what we want to watch. Presentation perfect and informative with out cutting quality. Haven't seen it since them.
They already nuked it in the last seasons because they know what you need to watch... or at least they think they do.
AmI the only person who enjoys these so much they forget to tab the thumbs-up button?
Every body is so passionate and knowledgeable. The friendly competition and enthusiasm between the various disciplines is an absolute inspiration. 🤩
I love that Mick wasn't afraid to wear colors.
I miss time team so much. I’ve always been fascinated by archeology and British history, such a good show and big in my childhood. It needs to come back! ❤️
As Monty Python once said, Blessed are the cheesemakers.
So great to still be able to spend time listening to Mick Aston 😊 and the ever excitable Francis Prior and the team ... fab 😊
These Time Team episodes are the highlight of my week.
Its so nice to see such a calming and interesting show + the nostalgia for pre-COVID times ♥ ♥ ♥
and no mobile phones and old style real cameras
Time Team is a highlight of my week; thank you for these wonderful, enlightening, and entertaining distractions during these odd times
This is one of the best TT episodes I've seen (and there's been a fair few good ones). The twists and turns, delivered by this exceptional group of experts was absolutely fascinating. Would have been a good candidate for a return visit...hint hint
Absolutely Love Time Team!
So fascinating and informative.
You can’t get this sort educational program in the US. Cannot Thank You Enough for bringing back and airing these classics!
This episode brings Wallace & Gromit to mind. 🧀
CHEESE, GROMIT!
Bit peckish for some Wensleydale
@@RatelHBadger Are you referring to me? Mister Wensleydale. Owner of the cleanest cheeseshop in the district.
@@omikronweapon Well it certainly isn't contaminated by cheese...
Always glad to educate our ex-colonies :)
I am so glad I found Time Team and all the other work different team members have done. I am absolutely entertained and learning so much. Thank you from New York.
You're welcome!
So glad the Time Team are back, i always thought this just touched on a much bigger story, might be a suggestion for the new series going forward in 2023... :)
These shows have brightened up my mostly solitary time in lockdown. Thank you all so much. 💜💙
Watching Time Team brings makes me feel so much childhood nostalgia
The English countryside in summer time is such a beautiful place
🌝
How long has cheese had a roll in Stilton...thanks Tony! 😂
Even he was cracking up lol.
...and now I'm craving a piece of cheese in a roll......pity there's no Stilton in the house....
He said role, not roll...
@@richardharrold9736 Nah he said roll. With tomato and a bit of lettuce 🥬 👀😉
Growing up in rural Vermont, our neighbors were elderly people, a brother and sister born before 1900. Their mother was an English country girl. Those people had uncountable jars for Stilton cheese, as they never threw anything out. Their mother must have brought the love of Stilton with her.
♥️🇬🇧😀 I'd forgotten how captivating these progs were. I learned so much. Proper experts. x
...so grateful for finding this - it's become my absolute favorite series on the subject. As an ethnomusicologist by my own background, the revelations of the lives of our ancestors have been hugely illuminating for me. Best of all, every single person involved shows not only how the science is done, but displays the very highest professional integrity; I have fallen in love with all of the members of the team. Thank You all so much for helping an old musician keep his sanity in these chaotic times...
I enjoy the TT personalities sooo much and their engaging banter. I suspect that multi-talanted Phil may play a stringed instrument......
@@julanesutton9626 yes our Phil is a accomplished guitarist, good spotting was it the long fingernails of his right hand lol.
@@katerinakemp5701 hi, yes and also coupled with closely trimmed finger nails on his left hand.
I'm watching these two and three times each (for now, that is). I so wish I could know some of these folks. Digging is not for the light-hearted or weak. Thanks everyone!
WOW what an episode, this is a literal dream site!! I watched most of this with my jaw gaping, more and more kept coming up, it just goes to show how ancient people were drawn to the sites of their ancestors, just as we are today
I could listen to Helen all day...she's dreamy!
Absolutely!
@@twothreebravo she's nice, but a little bit staid. A tad vicar's daughter. Brigid Gallagher, on the other hand... I've never seen a woman wield a shovel quite like her!
A quiet episode, but great fun none the less. Fun to see this much of Helen in an episode.
Since I found this channel I've binged watch this program!! This is such a wonderful program ❤ South Carolina USA
Should be one of these in the US
Awesome episode and missing Mick Aston
Freshly addicted to this show.
Oh my Goddess! Those pots he made are absolutely breathtaking. 😍
Thank you so much for uploading these! Nothing calms me down between zoom classes like a bit of time team. You're keeping me sane!!
I love that Tony couldn't get through the intro without a few giggles. XD
Come on, Tony, Stilton has very prestigious cheese.
I had to chuckle at that. And since that was the best take, he must have really been busting up through the other ones XD
Tony's giggles at the beginning, I love it
Congrats time team classics on reaching 100k subscribers well done 👏👏👏
It would have been better if they had 100K Patreon subscribers, though... ;-)
@@norwegiangadgetman That would be good i must admit 👍
@@norwegiangadgetman a tenth of that would be a grand success. :)
Watching TT is like having a cozy cuppa & chocolate biscuit with an old friend (dunking optional - the biscuit, not the old friend 😉)
This is just a great show. More please.
We're working on it!
Phil and his shorts. Love.
Not sure how many times I've watched all these uploads. Fascinating mix of the local residents being involved in their own history, the arts and the sciences. How can it get any better?
I am so thankful for every episode of time team as I have done archaeology in Israel digging down to a Roman road
I wish they did episodes in Israel
Look up Achaia Kohn Tavor. Hes just posted about digging at Bethesda in Israel. Also look up Sergio and Rhoda in Israel. Great channel
@@Tawadeb know the channel
This was also on the Dutch tv when i was young, love it!
I always thought the Dutch were intelligent people who knew quality! Also, I lived and worked there and had a Dutch girlfriend when I was living in Spain.
Puts me in mind of a hilarious episode of Yes Chef when the main character became a fanatic about using British cheeses. It was the first time I had heard of Stilton.
Wensleydale
I like these complex stories. TT is the highlight of my week, as it was in the days when I watched it on TV.
Followed by Scrapheap Challenge.
I especially liked this episode. (And I especially love Stilton cheese with pear slices!)
Time Team was both informative and entertaining. What was a delight too was how the team members became so companionable with each other and endeared themselves to the audience. I always thought Henry was the cutest of the lot.
It's ridiculous how happy I am when I find one of these I havent seent yet
What a wonderful history Britain has! Just dirty with archaeology.
What a fantastic episode! It's digs like these that keep me up at night wondering what else is going on at that site.
Finally - an episode where the intro theme has been kept! I've missed it so.
A local one for me! Can’t wait to see this again, or the interview afterwards
You all have the world's best job and you make excellent work of it. Thank you for including us in the journeys, along with you.
Great personalities, everyone doing their best just like people there were for thousands of years.
I don't remember seeing this in the first go-round, and I do believe it's probably my favorite episode so far.
it doesn't get much better than this episode - this site just keeps on giving 👍
Love this episode, even if it is a bit cheesy.
Still, tons more where that came from 😊
@@LordoftheBadgers Yes unfortunately, how depressing!
great to see Raksha back
This is a wonderful program! Very intelligent and humorous ! Great editing as well!
This episode is particularly pertinent for me as I used to live about one mile to the east of the site. Of course, I was blissfully unaware of any of this at the time.
As a matter of interest, the sea-level contour ran approx. 100 metres to the south of my house, despite being 30 miles from the sea!
love your shows . watch as much as i can. so much british history....
I have always loved this series and the sheer joy of discovery upon discovery warms the cockles of my heart. Bless them all xxx
It just so enjoyable this series and the banter is so nice that, despite i dont like digging, i wish i was part of the team
I LOVE TIME TEAM!!!!
Wonderful shows. We have good historical shows here in Germany but they would never produce one where people dig for a few days unsure of the outcome 😉. I'm so happy that I've found this!!
Herzliche willkommen!
Fabulous finds. 😊This is a great show. Way to go, Tony and Team !!😊
Great show! Blessed are the cheese makers.
Ok, it's official. I'm hooked on this channel. Can't get enough and, can't get any work done when it's on. So, it's back to work and I'll save another episode for tonight. Cheers from Minnesota!! Where we make a lot of cheese!
Hell of an episode if I do say.
Bravo TT another fantastic episode.
Beautiful Drawings from the ID artist 😊❤ Thankyou Time Team❤❤❤
Mick passed away ( STRIPEY JUMPER GUY)
VICTOR the ARTIST has passed away
IAN the DIGGER DRIVER has also passed away
..RIP...
Yes very SAD. They are ancestors now. Their spirits will greet those they gave a life to.🥰💜💜💜
Also Mark Corney passed away at the end of 2023. RIP
This episode is absolutely epic!
Would be great to revisit this site and see what else might be in the ground. It sure has potential.
I'm sooooo hungry for a bit of Stilton cheese with a little port!
Me too. A great combination, but I like Wensleydale too!
This was easily the best tv program for 15 years or so. Still brilliant now
Enjoying watching all these again. Only recently found this page. Interesting crop mark at 22:24 in the near dark green field ..
It's hard to choose but this is probably my favourite episode ever.
Tony Robinson at his best ... fantastic!
Mick AND Francis!! It's like a crossover episode from different series!
really enjoyed this episode so thanks!
grown up i n - farm country- i could cry when i see them all walking and digging around these newly growing, whatever it will be ( sugar beets?) field...
We all just Love Time Team 😊❤
Awesome mystery solving skills going on here.
John Geophyz redemption arc goooo
Thank you so much bringing this back during this horid time
So normally when I start watching these I like to have a basic understanding of the subject matter..80% of the time I already have the basic prerequisite knowledge to give me a pretty good understanding of the history they're trying to dig up. In this case I found myself thinking about the history of cheese.. very interesting. There's a story about a nomad traveling with milk in a bag made from a sheep's or cow's stomach during a warm day. The heat combined with the motion of traveling combined with the bacteria present in the stomach accidentally created the first known account of cheese... its stated the story is likely fiction but still interesting and entertaining.
And more than possibly true!
This was a remarkable episode 👍☮️
This story was fascinating.
Although a Yorkshireman and should be praising Wallace & Gromit's Wensleydale, I love Stilton cheese!
I loved this episode, thanks! BTW, the link to the commentary is wrong; it links to the commentary for a different episode.
Please, do an episode on CulIoden moor, Scotland! It is about time! love you, time team
Many Scots, Irish and some Welsh, however, do not like the publicity given to England
Congrats on 100k.
Thanks for posting
John seems a good natured fella
Forget whodunnit, this is whatwasit? Brilliant episode.
I love this episode! What I don’t understand (generally speaking) is where the soil covering the Roman and Anglo-Saxon layers came from. In this instance there is suggestion of an accredited layers of alluvial or marsh sediments.
What a fantastic episode! I sincerely hope for every episode to be uploaded!
are Phil's trowels in the British Museum?
along with The Hat...
Larvely. Keep these coming!
Tony laughing as he questions the significant role of 'cheeeeeeese' in the town is brilliant.
I'd love to see you go mudlarking on the River Thames!
If it hasn't happened yet the beautiful artwork needs to be published as a book.
Love the music very relaxing
