Street of the Dead Tony and the team tackle a huge Roman fort in County Durham. The stronghold was part of the defence of Dere Street, the main Roman road from York to Hadrian's Wall. The fort has fine mosaics and preserved rooms, but the Team have just three days to find out everything they can about the 'vicus', that's the civilian settlement around the fort, vital for the smooth running of the military machine and providing for the pleasures of the men garrisoned there. However, they soon discover something even more exciting during the dig - a series of military mausoleums, the first discovery of its kind for over 150 years.

The Darwin Theory remains "Theory" and the Standards forbid using a Theory as a Fact, further, theories are not to be used in consideration of any studies/research (Beliefs, Theiries, or Opinions), as they will interfere with the greater facts emerging from the Proven Methodologies of Research.
There are vast (Artifacts, Fossils, Written and Oral Histories) that tell a much larger and more Ancient stories.

Hubs found a bit of buckle & what was told to us , part of a sandal. Than we were taken to museum, ( which was closed that day), shown were to clean up a bit. Shown around by an older gentleman & offered tea. Since it was getting on the day we had to decline, thank all for an amazing experience. What a memory. I am enchanted with each of your posted digs. They're hoping that they'll get more engagement to do more sites next year. I'd love to see them do an episode or two per month but I'm not sure if that's realistic really given a tighter budget since they're relying mostly on crowdfunding and not receiving as much funding from the government.

I made the same comment a few episodes ago, and and to my sadness got a very terse reply from another viewer telling me, in no uncertain terms that the archaeologists had full time jobs as lecturers and employed on other digs, and that the three days was so they could go back to their normal jobs, but personally I think they would love to carry on with these digs, unfortunately though I suspect that they would not be paid by the programme makers and so have to return to the daily work earning a a crust, which we all have to do. I didn’t mind someone explaining the situation to me but I didn’t appreciate being spoken down to, I hope you don’t suffer the same fate. 😀👍🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

    • @roguewolf7053
      @roguewolf7053 3 года назад +11

I wish they could take longer on some digs too. I think the 3 day time limit is due to a combination of: the land owners(esp in working fields & very near people’s homes), the program’s budgeting for the archeologists/film crew/equipment and the fact that the archeologists have ongoing obligations at other active digs elsewhere which actually pay their bills.😕🤷🏻‍♀️Which it’s also entirely possible that the archeologists on the show actually donate their time & thus make no money from these episodes. Which would make the 3 day time limit make even more sense.
      - However I know other teams of archeologists often come in behind Time Team and expand the digs they started.
I wish the Time Team producers would’ve sent Tony back to such sites to share with us the viewers what else was found by those later more expansive investigations. That way we would hopefully have answers to at least some of the questions left unanswered by the Time Team dig & a more complete picture of such sites. They could *still* go back even now & go over the finds from previous sites which other teams investigated after Time Team by going over the findings & showing photos, diagrams & some of the artifacts recovered. They could likely fit coverage of multiple such sites into a single one hour show! Perhaps even bringing in some of the show’s experts to give their reaction &/or opinions on the finds & how further investigations proved/disproved their theories on the site shared during the Time Team dig!
      - Another idea would be for them to have the occasional special dig lasting at least twice as long. And do so on a site they are reasonably certain will yield a lot of interesting finds. Even if they only did one or two such extended digs per season/year it would be very interesting & much appreciated by viewers! Alternatively...rather than doing the longer dig on a new site they could do such a special on a previous site which they *know* had much more to give but they ran out of time on. That way they could be absolutely sure to have enough interesting content to make such an episode worthwhile from an entertainment standpoint.
      - Just a few idea. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I absolutely *love* the show as is! But I just can’t help but often wonder what else they may have found had they only had another day or two! This is *especially* true on episodes where they either miss important info which wishlist help them know where to dig &/or times when their first few trenches yielded nothing.

This is one place I hope time team can revisit just with the scale of the site and how complete a lot of structures are inside of the fort. I wish the show producers & funding managers would allow longer dig times on such massive sites such as this which clearly have *so much* to discover! Also because a site like this doesn’t have some of the limitations other site have...such as being in someone’s yard, garden or working field! Not sure about anyone else...but personally I’d rather lose an episode of a new site in order to have two episodes(so 6 days) on just one site such as this one!! Since the budget would already be there if they did in fact replace one of the future planned episodes with an extended second 3 days on this site(or a site like it in the future) it would be doable?🤔🤔
      - Another idea would be to send just Tony back to get in touch with one of the teams of archeologists who often come in after Time Team to continue the dig & show us their findings! Even if such digs are long over with they could still explain what else was found, if the Time Team’s conclusions were correct & show us any artifacts discovered! The goverment super experts know there is invaluable information but will not open the sight until they have a capable way to preserve the integrity of the sight and dig. In the 18-20 centuries some rich guy like Donald Trump would come in there and through away anything that was not a piece of gold. As an experienced sound engineer and foley editor I'm guessing the intermittent poor audio reproduction is to do with how the original recordings have been compressed and processed for transmission on RUclips. As others have correctly pointed out it's generally Tony's overdubs (done away from location) that seem to be be too low in the mix (to my ears not really quieter just lower quality conversions from the original with a dreadful lack of the full frequency spectrum). The audio track has probably been processed countless times with varying codecs and lots of the original quality and hours of editing left on a studio floor somewhere. What was broadcast quality has been compromised :( On the plus side though it is free :) :) :)

Hey Time Team and our Patreon Members.
I literally love seeing the old time team episodes, it continues to remind me why I love volunteering as an archaeologist in the trenches, as I always learn something new, even if 10+years fly by since my last excavation.
But can I ask, the folks that are resharing these episode, can I ask for a date of each 3 day excavation (and the series and episode) to show up on the top of the screen please.
As yes, I can Google when the episodes were. Lol
And yes, I can tell via how old/ young our veteran archaeologists are, like Matt having long here, or the eminent John Gater, being younger with a trimmed ginger beard ... or now aiming for gandalf with his white beard. 😉
Maybe it's my ocd, but seeing which episode/ series and year it was, would add to my enjoyment.🙏
    Thank you Time Team.👏
