I'm addicted to time team I think it's just great an ideal way for the viewers to learn without knowing about dates and how the past lived. I meant learning by accident it can be fun
The format of the show was so sound, and with only 3 days to gather the data, give known history (based on working experience ) drawing the viewer in , along with what may have been done (causing the viewer to ponder), proof (is or is not) of what may have been done, followed up with summary. Each show maintaining a level of energy in which the viewer sees that the staff just enjoy what they do and enjoy sharing the historical value of the site. One can only wonder that if this site was so important, was there ever a follow up on it, or was it all just re-buried.

I found the full report from the dig: www.wessexarch.co.uk/sites/default/files/68735_Friars_Wash_Redbourn.pdf It only covers the results from the Time Team dig, and doesn’t refer to any further plans to expand on the excavations done. I was a bit sad to find that the lead ‘curse’ sheets turned out to be more likely to be weights, possibly for fishing. 😣 I was looking forward to a great Romano-British take on the lines of “ Sosio must never do better than the mime Eumolpos. He must not be able to play the role of a married woman in a fit of drunkenness on a young horse.”
francis and phil are so excited on this site. i think mick would have been bonkers over this dig, three temples all in a pile. he always loved his religious sites!
It’s how you do it and who does it. Career politicos today aren’t too different. The upper classes dictate what goes and what doesn’t - and they always reserve the right to look down on all others. The Romans especially had to do things their very organised, homologous and documented way. Their present to western civilisation. Also remember, they didn’t always go for death games and killing people for pleasure.
I mean considering tje fact that according to the one woman they had to report the couns because was over 10 of them at the site odds are the family was kicked off their land amd tje government took over is how these things tend to work
@@richardgrace4500 We heard nothing about the owner of the field. The coins have to be reported to the coroner before they can be taken away or sold. I doubt that anyone would lose their land, but with the archaeology underground it would become difficult to get permission to build on it. The remains could still be covered over with soil for cultivation to resume. I imagine that's what happened here: the site obviously could do with more than a three-day excavation, but some academic would have to get funding and manpower for that.

I'm curious to know what happens to sites such as important ones like this after "day 3". I take it they are maintained in some way. Would be nice to see a follow up to this say a year later
The archæologists were all professionally employed as archæologists elsewhere, 3 days is quite common for exploratory excavations and the programme was otherwise very expensive. After the dig they usually stopped, recorded everything and shut it all down. In some cases the investigation was carried on by others, either amateur or professional, in others that is planned and in a few cases they found pretty well all there was to be found. They _always_ wrote a full report and that can usually be found easily in pdf for free (look at www.wessexarch.co.uk or local archæological society websites). Most finds were given to local museums for study. Skeletons were studied and then reburied in consecrated ground unless there was a _very_ pressing reason not to (and that would need government permission).
What an absolute pleasure to be with you again on this Sunday morning 🌠🎇🎆 Must admit that Tony is so inspiring and cannot wait to follow him and his wonderful crew on yet another unique adventure ⛲️🎤🎼🏵🥃🥂🍾🍒⚡️🌈

Amazing episode! Best one ever? How exciting it must have been to see that site gradually revealed itself.
Stone the crows, how I love to hear Phil talk!
Oo arrr!
Love love love Time Team. I only wish I was 30 years younger so I could go digging myself!
Absolutely brilliant stuff! So, so, happy to have discovered these on RUclips. Thank you sooo much!
Tony always has a cunning plan...One of the best shows on the box
10:21 i really only just noticed francis's hat combo here 😂
Talk about a tv programme making a difference. That is what I love about TT.
Love it! Always fascinated with archeology!
Got to love this show! I use this episode in my high school archaeology class:)
I’m smiling down upon my iphone, 6 minutes in. No matter WHAT they dig up, Time Team episodes are so enjoyable.
How many shows really bring so much enjoyment plus painless education?
The best one. Can't wait to see again
Love Phil's enthusiasm😊
Exciting episode, one of my favourites
Francis is like a golden retriever with a PhD
Exactly! Many thanks for this.
I remember watching this when it was on TV! Very exiting stuff!
Tony 'If we were Romans, could we invent a god right here right now?'
Guy 'No you don't get it, the god is here already. You have to identify this and access his power.'
Tony 'But Guy, while you were saying that, this hay moved in a mysterious way.'
ROFL 12:30

One of my (many) favourite episodes. Love the series!
One of my favourite Time Teams... partly because of the significance but also as someone who has lived in Dunstable and St Albans, and walked a lot of the nearby fields it is great to have a local episode
Thanks!
There is nothing I could dislike about these programs or people. Having watched TT before internet was common I was brought on a journey of highs and lows with experts who were a delight to enjoy and learn from. Now internet is so common and I can watch on my iPad I get to watch and enjoy all over again. Mind you I still enjoy guessing the year from Tony’s hair style and tummy. ❤
Sunday evenings have never been the same since.... love rewatching the episodes and listening to the banter.
I love how Phil makes every answer sound like it belongs in a sports newscast!
Loved this episode and not far from where I live. This i have never seen so like the rest of you in virtual TV land I would love to find out what happened after.
will you go and have a look for the rest of us and report back?.........please
@@Antonnick having a look at the site on google maps it looks like its been covered over .. I sincerely hope I'm wrong
I found the full report from the dig: www.wessexarch.co.uk/sites/default/files/68735_Friars_Wash_Redbourn.pdf
It only covers the results from the Time Team dig, and doesn’t refer to any further plans to expand on the excavations done.
This was magnificent!! What an exciting find! I got goosebumps just watching it. Thank you for the thrill. Happy New Year ♥♥♥
francis and phil are so excited on this site. i think mick would have been bonkers over this dig, three temples all in a pile. he always loved his religious sites!
I love these guys - proper telly!
I really enjoy watching Time team wish there were more. From South Africa
These guys are hilarious when they put their heads together, sometimes bumping horns & taking the mickey out of each other! 🤣
"Except that some people are just a little bit skeptical."
Admit it. We all knew the camera was going to pan to Stewart.
Nice to see Time Team on RUclips, officially! Welcome aboard!
This is one of my favorite episodes of TT
my absolute favourite TT episode
It always baffles me that the Romans were squicked out by human sacrifice when essentially that's what their gladiatorial combats were.
The gladiatorial games were officially banned by Constantine in 325 CE.
@@Poliss95 True, but there was a lot of time before that.
@Brisdad53 Check out some of the reasons the games were held, especially in conjunction with funerary rites.
Also the captives killed at the end of Roman triumphs.
Good to see you back guys 🙂👍🏽
Time Team got me through Covid, and this is likely my favorite episode.
Just wondering if this became a scheduled site after the dig?
I would like to know that as well!!!
So would l
@@faithlesshound5621 idk how laws are through europ since I am in the united states but via federal law the u.s government or even the local/state government can issue "imminent domain" and essentially kick you off your property with very little if any pay....
The problem with a fantastic program is it leaves huge shoe's to fill. Thanks guys
Jon always uses his trusty car key to describe his results 😂
I think Guy DLB is the most television savvy (apart from Tony obviously) he knows what they are and are not providing here, and where too draw a line between legitimate archaeology and teatime entertainment.
Exactly thankyou for spotting that as well, many commenters seem to think he is rude, but no he uses his head and doesn't get carried away by every find that is presented to him.
Some episodes are posted twice. But i think this is one of their best, so I just couldn't click away!
My favorite episode
My Dream. Remastered Time Team.
My dream: I find an excuse to think there might be Roman remains under my garden and they come and clear it.
@@ian_b I'm near Birmingham do you think I might have a few celts or a grub hut under my patio?
So many great finds - excellent episode.
Ay Tony I was in St Albans pub about a week ago near wisemans ferry here in new south Wales no Roman ruins here mate just , ticks, mosquito's, and black snakes , but the pub is very colonial all sandstone , love the time team wish the episodes were longer but thier is incredibly a large amount archaeology still buried in olde England, love the time team cheers to the team gidday to all from Sydney
What an absolute pleasure to be with you again on this Sunday morning 🌠🎇🎆
Must admit that Tony is so inspiring and cannot wait to follow him and his wonderful crew on yet another unique adventure ⛲️🎤🎼🏵🥃🥂🍾🍒⚡️🌈
Tony inspiring?
Temples are like busses right? You wait for ages for one to come along...
... then there's FOUR of them at once! Thanks Rob, for a laugh!
I love that Tony finally got what he wanted and then some more!
@@1234cheerful . Ditto that. It was a wonderful discovery.
No....
Buses. Busses means kisses. To buss someone on both cheeks, for example.
@@judeirwin2222No it's just a saying in the UK "You wait ages for a bus and then 3 buses Come along at the same time"
Looking forward to Francis contagious laugher :'D
"A local temple for local people."
Who here's head immediately flashed with the League of Gentlemen?
It's a local town for local people..
Love to have a program with Stewart talking about the landscape of Britain.
"We've never had a full temple!"
*FOUR TEMPLES LATER*
Wonderful find, TT…Story well told
