That siren sound must get very very annoying after a little. I never thought of it but firefighters and other emergency services have to hear that all the time 😂
rule #1 of driving emergency: ALWAYS PASS ON THE LEFT WHEN POSSIBLE. The law states that cars need to move to the right when they see an emergency vehicle with their lights and sirens on, alot of dumb drivers take it literally and move to right lane even when its open and clear.
JusticeSevenfold rule #2 is you have to apply your judgment based on the situation, in most situations driving into oncoming traffic is much easier since cars see you and respond much faster then when you approach behind them
akimbo5u It just seems so very awkward at the very least. Civilian vehicles that are going straight through an intersection where there is a left turning lane pass those cars using the right side all the time. Why wouldn't the emergency vehicles do the same? It seems counter intuitive to pass on the left of a car that is already trying to turn left, plus going into on coming traffic while there is a perfectly good lane that any regular would use to go straight through anyway. Seems more dangerous and slower than necessary for emergency drivers to zig zag around futilely.
Hi, I am firefighter here in Brazil, we also have the pearce truck model , but we usually don't put anything on the engine cover, I could see that you put so many things on it!
Where I live that would have got a full structure fire response. 4 engines, 2 truck's, 1 rescue, 1 medic, 2 battalion Chiefs, 2 EMS supervisors, a command aide, and duty FM.
Are they going bring back the TV show back from station 25. I really enjoy watching the ladies who played in the show. Good job on this video and bring back some good memories of my days as a volunteer fireman for St.helens Oregon
Haha! at :50 in the video, the officer reads his MDC and says, "Smoke near building. Ah fuck..." He and the driver know is likely a BS call. Interestingly though, they still go code-red with lights and siren. In my department, we have the discretion to downgrade to code-yellow (proceed non-emergency) if the call information warrants it.
Would be nice if they let the fire station know there's a road closure right outside, instead of the first of them knowing they have to deal with it being when they go out on a call.
why not wear the headsets if you've got them? Be able to hear among your crew better, hear the radio traffic better and protect your hearing from the siren?
Michael Glattli call your local fire department or walk in and ask. They may be willing to set up a date to have you go out with them! I've done it, it's a blast.
may sound like a strange question but that cord I see plugged into the side of the engine, if correct, that is to keep the engines battery Fullly charged right, I have actually seen some people with smaller pickup trucks, that actually have cords coming out of the trucks front grill.
Drivers should know their first due area fairly well. Also, the mobile computers we have in my city have GPS in case they don't know the exact location. And the officer controls the computer, so it is their job to give directions to the driver if they need them.
I don't know about these folks but when I worked as an EMT, we had a big map on the wall. While the driver started the truck, the LT or the Captain worked out the route.
I want to be a Firefighter and put out fires with the hose, rescue people from burning buildings, drive the Fire Truck with the siren wailing and the lights flashing and wear boots, pants, coat, hood, SCBA mask and helmet
cell phones are the worst and best things for 911. there should be an iq test to buy a cell phone. mainly, how to tell the difference from a camp fire and a structure fire, how to tell the difference between some guy changing his tire and a mva, and how to tell the difference between smoke and steam.
+Rick1885 I know exactly how you feel. I can't tell you how many times we get called out for a structure fire that turns out to be steam from a dryer vent, a vehicle fire that turns out to be a coolant leak/overheating, and the list goes on all because of some bonehead with a cell phone who didn't check. What really pisses me off is they don't wait for anyone to get there, they just drive off and vanish without a trace. I think that they should track these people down and fine them for making a phony 911 call and fleeing the scene.
quick question if I may, do you guys have the capibility of when you are responding to a call and you come up to a 4-way intersection with signal lights, that you can either make all 4 directions turn red so that All the traffic Hopefully stops and you can make it through safely or you can just turn one direction Red and the direction you are traveling green and all this done via a remote of some sort that you keep in all trucks and engines??????
I don't know about Seattle and what they have but some departments may use remotes but there is also something called an Opticom system in which a strobe light module is mounted on top of an emergency vehicle and it emits towards a traffic light that contains a receiver on top of it and it changes the light via Infared. Also there is GPS systems too.
Nice of the caller to be a concerned citizen; however, three seconds closer look could have saved a lot of trouble. Lol
Work at the highest level, well done colleagues! it is worthy of respect! Hello from the fighters from Russia!

They had a list of potential fires sites, shows a lot how much the SFD cares about the community. 👍🏻

Great video! I live near the Seattle area and its interesting to see the response from this perspective!

wow, people actually getting out of the way
good job love the ride along keep it up like the tones going off

Driver and Captain at the same time- “smoke near building, aww fuu”
Awesome video man! Keep up the great work:D
"'I smell the Febreze!'" Lol:D
Sometimes it's interesting which lane the driver took. For example at 3:15, 2 lanes straight free and he take line of the traffic toward.
rule #1 of driving emergency: ALWAYS PASS ON THE LEFT WHEN POSSIBLE. The law states that cars need to move to the right when they see an emergency vehicle with their lights and sirens on, alot of dumb drivers take it literally and move to right lane even when its open and clear.
I think they want to always try to pass on the left whenever possible since people usually pull to the right
akimbo5u is there a rule #2 of driving emergency where "drive in the oncoming lane as little as possible" could have been applied here just as well?
JusticeSevenfold rule #2 is you have to apply your judgment based on the situation, in most situations driving into oncoming traffic is much easier since cars see you and respond much faster then when you approach behind them

do you use a tripod in your videos? if so what kind
How does one get to do a ride along on a fine engine.
Michael Glattli call your local fire department or walk in and ask. They may be willing to set up a date to have you go out with them! I've done it, it's a blast.
You just walk in the fire station nonchalant and then hop in an engine when a call goes out just like Kramer did in Seinfeld.
I wonder if these pros still get butterflies when they climb aboard?
may sound like a strange question but that cord I see plugged into the side of the engine, if correct, that is to keep the engines battery Fullly charged right, I have actually seen some people with smaller pickup trucks, that actually have cords coming out of the trucks front grill.

Hello Seattle
Retired Benton One
how do the drivers know where to drive. do they have gps or are they a seasoned firefighter that knows the streets?
Brent0285 most truckees know the area very well and are seasoned.
Drivers should know their first due area fairly well. Also, the mobile computers we have in my city have GPS in case they don't know the exact location. And the officer controls the computer, so it is their job to give directions to the driver if they need them.
It actually helps if you know your city more than anybody. Areas are easy to memorize, if you're a driver of a fire truck, you know where to go.
I don't know about these folks but when I worked as an EMT, we had a big map on the wall. While the driver started the truck, the LT or the Captain worked out the route.
There's GPS/computer but also a binder boom full of paper maps for backup just in case.

Are US fire trucks especially slow? Or do they just look slow because they are so big and the streets are so wide? And straight?

I mean they're in the city, driving fast would probably be dangerous.
