- In 1991, Syrian SAMs almost Hit an F-117 Stealth Fighter.
On January 26th, 1991, an F-117 Nighthawk was refueling in the midst of the night. A while later, 3 explosions in close proximity rocked the F-117 all of a sudden. The pilot speculated, "Am I over the enemy territory? However, it was confirmed that he was in the right place, and his plane was also fine. After landing, the pilot informed the USAF's intelligence analysts about this, who later told him that he was actually flying close to Syria at the time. Some F-15 Eagles in the area also verified seeing explosions. The Nighthawks sidestepped, flying close to Syrian border.
“How did the Syrian SAMs see the F-117?”
Oh I don’t know maybe the fucking jumbo jet full of fuel directly above the Nighthawk?
I heard that low frequency Radar waves can see stealth fighters but its impossible to lock on them and do successful fire.
I am not sure how much this statement is correct bro :).
@@Geopelia_Elec Modern low-frequency radars such as Nebo-M are AESAs with very high precision, CAN lock on and CAN guide a missile to within acquision box where its own seeker takes over.. They can guide a missile close enough for stealth to no longer matter. That's where one activates EW system and hopes for the best. But the answer is low-freq, long-wave radars (metric wave, VHF band) can do that with modern SAMs. Neither Syrians nor Iraqis had anything modern in 1991.
Bullshit. The Syrians were firing at the tanker and still missed.
@@Geopelia_Elec didnt they successfully take down 1 in Yugoslavia?
Being connected to a F-117 doesn't make the KC-135 stealthy.
U have a point 👉. But those explosions didn't exploded near the tanker but near the F-117 vide proximity fuses; the SAM showed was the BUK (earlier versions) using low frequencies.
Or that if a refueling plane was flying "slow", so was a jet getting fueled. What's strange is that the missiles didn't hit the KC135 even if it was not possible for the missiles to lock to the night hawk. Maybe Syria knew the flight path has to be a good target, flying next to the border
😂😂 💯
You say the F17 was tracked and fired on. More like there radar tracked the KC tanker.
Facts
Yeah that's what I was thinking
Probably.
But then why didn’t the missiles hit the tanker? I doubt they were doing evasive manoeuvres and its three SAMs. Don’t tell me all missed.
*their
(Possessive)
I have spent many many hours working on kc-135's. Not one time was I aware of any stealth technology. The enemy clearly seen the tanker and then a blip they chose as the target. The key here is no target was destroyed.
@@thomasmatthews8055 100% correct.
The tanker was the target 😂 F117?? No way it was caught on radar !
Yeah and the missiles randomly noticed the hawk and all 3 of them went for it instead of the tanker 😂
Why would they fire at something that’s not even in their airspace? 😂😂😂
There was the kc135

Syria, one of the worst militaries in the world , sees through so called 'stealth' tech.
Well, first Gen stealth technology. But the correct term is "low observable". But even the best stealth jets aren't invisible.
@@ericmatteson9868yes tune your radar to look for what you are searching and definitely you will find it
No "stealth" jet is 100% invisible to radar, that's why they are "stealthy" (close to full stealth but not there).
Even F-22, one of the stealthiest planes in the world would light up like a christmass tree on radar at certain (but extremly difficult to obtain) angles, that's why they all also rely on electronic warfare and inteligence from AWACS aircraft and ground radars.
Well, Serbia tracked and shot down F117
Yeah because the pilot didn't shut his bomb bay like he was supposed to. The bomb bay is not stealth
And where is Serbia’s stealth jet?
@@marvelous5038 We don't need one
@@Wolfstanusnot true, they did it with a radar with low frequency which can detect stealth like f117
@@stefanterzic3359 A bunch of things came together for this to happen.
1) the bomb doors were open just at the right time for them to target it
2) they were flying the same route they normally were at the time giving the Serbs a chance to "find" it with their radar. Serbs knew this route very well so they were looking for it in case they got lucky
3) radar jamming planes (EA6 Prowlers) that were supposed to be escorting them were grounded due to bad weather.
4) it was a lucky shot by the Serbs. They fired multiple missiles and one of the missiles exploded close enough to damage the plane
It certainly wasn't because they could detect the F117 just by radar. That's a fallacy. This was mainly because of bad tactics by the commanders and the planes involved. This is all well-known and documented.

Russia developed a computer program that took the faint returns from multiple radars to track stealth planes
Yeh they were shooting st the tanker
yep
They didn’t spot the F117, it was the ginormous fuel tanker they aimed at
Russian radar used by Syria had its number, like Serbian Russian made radar shot down a F-117, US stealth is overrated.
Agreed. It's one reason why the US panicked and kicked the Turks out of the F-35 program, because TuAF took delivery of S-300 air defence systems which could have possibly allowed them to identify F-35's radar signature.
Russian radar technology is not to be underestimated. Also, joke's on the US, the Turks accelerated development of their own sophisticated 5th-gen bird, the Kizilelma
@@swmig19not sure that's really a "jokes on the US" situation. Sure they lost the sale of 80 or so jets. But keeping that information secret is worth much more.
@@ericmatteson9868 valid argument, and one that makes sense ... I'd imagine the US military would be very keen to avoid F-22 / 35 sensors getting into the threat libraries of their adversaries
@@swmig19 The Russians have been ahead of America for decades in technology, closed cycle rockets, titanium subs, nuclear propulsion missiles, fighter jet, Yakovlev helped Lockheed with F-35.
"Stealth is overrated"
Which is why literally every country that can fund it is trying to build it. And none have even come close to the RCS of US aircraft
They shot at the 600 MPH bumble bee on radar. That broke formation from a KC135 and somehow stayed level and maneuvered.
It isn't that they nearly hit the stealth plane, it's that they BADLY missed the jumbo tanker plane just above and in front of him.
Why are AIs so stupid ?
Ah > said in Bevis voice it was THE KC135 highlighted him
Isn't Syria shooting at us an act of war? These things are so confusing
Well the American military jet 🛩️ was flying in Syrian airspace! It wasn’t a civilian aircraft so they probably thought they were being attacked
Well, you did violate their airspace so the USA were in the wrong here
@@joshJ.The plane was over Iraq, close to the Syrian border. It was *NOT* Syrian airspace. Syria fired the missiles into Iraqi airspace.
Syria and US has been in war, so who cares? The Syrians and Syria consider US as the enemy after USA started supporting Islamist, Kurds and then invaded Syria for oils.
The refulling tanker was too big
Not the F117
The f-117 was being detected and tracked because of it's many sharp corners wich reflect radar waves... it can't see the surfaces because it reflect the waves away but it can see the sharp angel connections between them
low-density radar. it sees everything, even birds. you have to weed out all the noise, but it will let you know if something's up there
OR...The SAM sight detected...the Tanker?.😮
Because Syria has Russian Air Defense system 😂😂😂😂

I am thinking the 117 left its lights on...........
the 117 is the hottest plane ever
They can see them on radar they were just difficult to shoot down
You are basically admitting that there is nothing known as stealth, rather it was all very good marketing skills. That is the reason this very stealthy plain of yours got shot down over Yugoslavia
Just use a radar with wavelength the same of the width of the plane. No stealth in that case, just basics about radio waves
The real question: Was that stupid comment the result of AI or a human script writer?
Stealth is not 360 degrees. There are angles which are far more effective than others.
Where were the biomass destructions?
It's probably bcoz the Syrian SAM picked up the tanker which was refueling the F-117.
Maybe they saw the F117 some how and fired those as warning shot so they don’t come into Syrian air space
At the time Russia had a better presence in Syria and its possible they had the technology to track the F117 specially after being detected by tankers side
Same mentality got zelinski into trouble, he thought his coke made him invisible and invincible
That was warning shots 😅
Fancy windproof lighter involved?
Sorry we didn’t know it was Stealth Fighter Jet
Well they still didn't hit it with 3 russian missiles. Now we're 35 years and 4 stealth platforms farther. And Russia is still using the S300

Yugoslavia on 27 March 1999.
Maybe stealth isn't quite the magic the public was feed, if the tanker was targeted, the tanker would be a pile of Lego's on the ground
Or maybe their systems are trash or they were out of range. Since they are hooked together an explosion close enough to take out one would more than likely hit the other. It was a clean miss all around. The tanker was obviously the target.
Wake turbulence.
there is something called Soundwave and some Anti air had soundwave trageting like the germans later had with their AA guns what actualy shot automaticly they had soundwave radar and u dont need an radar to lock on Heat making tragets

Lol, guess it not really stealth to radar. WOWs

Lucky shot. Iraq had the S-125, the air defense system that downed the F-117 in Serbia, among its 1000+ other air defense systems and AAA batteries. The F-117 flew more than a thousand sorties into Iraq, above all these 1000+ air defenses including the S-125 but none managed to down it.

F117 was once shot down in serbia. So stop saying that the jet is invincible. Try flying it over countries with avdanced AD and look how easily it is shot down.
That was a lucky shot. The F-117 had its bomb doors opened, thereby significantly increasing its rcs and allowed it to be locked on. The F-117 flew more than a 1000 sorties deep into Iraq especially Baghdad which had thousands of sophisticated air defense systems and other AAA batteries. Some of the air defenses include the S-125, the same SAM that shot down the F-117 in Serbia. So pls enlighten me, why wasn't any F-117 shot down in Iraq when the Iraqi SAMs (including the S-125) had more than a thousand opportunity?
Not stealth at all. Beware of wild claims.
The Nighthawk is indeed stealth. Perhaps you missed the part where the gigantic Jet full of fuel was flying literally above the F-117?
